As someone who has either watched NewSpring Church online or attended in person, I was very intrigued by a book written by Pastor Jonathan. His sermons are just getting better and better, and I really look forward to hearing what God is leading him to teach us. So when I heard about this book, I got a copy that weekend. I am not normally a non-fiction reader, and even less so with self-help books. But knowing the way Jonathan preaches, I thought this one would be one I could get through. I was right. I still just read one chapter a night, as that’s about all the learning I can manage after teaching kindergartners all day. My brain is fried. I even went back and bought a second copy for a co-worker who I felt could really benefit from the insights and guidance this book gives on burnout, the price you might unknowingly be paying for your success in a certain area, and how if you don’t decide to take care of yourself on your time, then your body just might shut down and force you to deal with it at a time that could be very inconvenient. Now that I’ve finished it, I’m passing it on to my dad to borrow. He juggles so many plates, and I feel that this would be a good wake up call to what could be just around the corner if he doesn’t make some changes. Even if you are not a Christian, this book would still be so helpful in finding a healthy balance in your amount of stress.
If you're a goal-oriented, high-achiever type who's suddenly been struggling with low energy and low motivation, burn out might be at the core. I first heard Jonathan Hoover explain burnout on the Alli Worthington's podcast, and suddenly, so much of what I'd been experiencing made sense. I listened to that interview m at LEAST 4 more times.
This book blends sciences and biblical understanding to the subject. My favorite takeaway is the example from Elisha's life. He didn't experience burnout after things felll apart in his life; he experienced it after one of the high points! And Hoover's interpretation of God's response to Elisha was particularly interesting.

This book is a brutally honest guide that challenges the notion of wearing tiredness as a badge of honor and offers a clear path to healing. The book effectively combines psychology, practicality, and a touch of spirituality, offering actionable insights in each chapter, such as redefining success and reclaiming rest.
A great read! This book offers hope, insight, and practical strategies for overcoming burnout. The author explores the physical and mental effects of stress, provides biblical examples, and includes thought-provoking discussion questions.
Incredibly insightful read. Much needed after a very busy season of life to help identify & combat stress. Not surprising, I found myself taking a honest inventory and discovering I was much worse for wear than I predicted. Lots of helpful guidance to course correct into healthier rhythms.
Decent book. There are some good insights, suggestions, realizations and questions. Very God heavy with lots of biblical references, which was a turn off and had me checked out a lot of the book.
