2nd Edition

In the year 2081 our planet survived global warming of an apocalyptic scale. When the dust settled and the water receded Dr. Anthony Smith, one of only a few hundred survivors of GWI, started society anew. Having come to the conclusion that injudicious breeding played a huge role in the destruction of Earth as we knew it in the twenty first century, he worked closely with other survivors to isolate the Dionysus gene. This gene has the ability to manipulate human DNA to ensure that all male children be born gay, and all female children be born lesbians. A new society is born.

In the year 2300 Dr. Smith’s descendants are ushering in the twenty fourth century having maintained control of the government that still rules society. Twins, Aiya and Aiyan, are preparing to meet their matches and take control of House Gaeland, the current ruling House. But not everything is as it seems.

Love is Love... it knows no gender and doesn’t conform to restrictions or boundaries. Aiyan has found his soul mate in Kaden, the prince of House Devi that he is matched with and eventually marries. But when the person Aiya falls in love with tests the boundaries put in place after GWI, all hell breaks loose. And in the midst of one secret unraveling, another will emerge. There is a growing anomaly that threatens to destroy over two hundred years of progression. This anomaly is known as Opposites.

Opposites is an adult, dystopian majorly M/M series that encompasses all manners of relationships (including M/F and F/F). In this world logic is irrelevant, love is key, and things get broken—just ask Aiyan and Kaden.

This dystopian-future tale features a society that has evolved to be almost exclusively homosexual this pairs of husbands and wives who come together to raise IVF-developed children in a family group. Though there are many ruling Houses scattered throughout this world, this story centers around the twin prince and princess of Gaeland: Aiyan and Aiya and their marriages. Aiyan is immediately attracted to his husband-to-be, Kaden, but Aiya is not as taken with her wife, Maeve. In fact, Aiya is unnaturally attracted to Kaden's adopted Outkast (heterosexual) brother, Sawyer.

Meanwhile, Maeve's playboy brother is attracted to a Priest, Raven.

Like many royalty stories, there is an undercurrent of dissent, and some scheming players. The intrigue surrounding Aiyan's Outkast uncle, Cillian, and Kaden made for a good bit of excitement. And, Aiya taking a male lover was a really controversial issue for the characters in the book. I really appreciated how understanding Maeve was, and how this triad seemed to work through these issues.

The book is filled with couplings, mainly M/M but also some F/F and M/F. Kaden and Aiyan are insatiable from the instant of meeting--which was humorous at times. There seemed to be a good bit of instant attraction, in fact. And, there's a whole lotta smexytimes, so that's always fun.

I had some trouble with the plethora of characters. I can appreciate the author's ambition to create a fully realized world, however, the similar-sounding names and large number of characters introduced in the beginning left me feeling confused from the start.

The longer I read, the more I began to gather the many characters and plot threads together, but the initial learning curve was steep.

My biggest issue with the story was the omniscient POV. This is a personal issue, most probably, but head-hopping within a paragraph or page to gather the thoughts and opinions of all the characters in a scene is distracting to me. I also find it weakens the tension for the reader because I KNOW what the other characters do not. Immediately. Thus, the suspense was lower for me, and this hindered my enjoyment.

I read an ARC copy which contained many typos, though this may not be reflected in the final draft. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great read! Though I am not typically a fan of the sci-fi sort of genre, I was quickly pulled into this futuristic tale. When I started reading, I was intimidated by all the characters, but soon discovered they were easy to follow and each person brought something important to the story. It is a fascinating book, unlike any other gay themed book I have ever read.

Note: This audiobook was provided to me through Hearts on Fire Reviews in exchange for an impartial review.

First and foremost, this is not a good book to listen to in audio. Narrator Greg Boudreaux is very talented, and thank God he gave different voices to the characters or I would have had to DNF it. Principally, the confusion arises because the author gave nearly all the characters similar sounding names and each couple has a brother or sister and each has two sets of parents.

I really have no idea how the names are spelled, because this is, after all, an audiobook, but this is just a partial list of names based on how they sounded: Aiya and Aiyan, children of Mya and Mia. There was also Raven and Ryan, Seirian and Aaron, Kaden and Cadden, Tanis and Thanos. Ari and Taryn, and the icing on the cake comes at the end when Seirian mentions his brother Cillian.

Two sets of twins are going to marry. Each of them has two sets of parents so there are eight parents instead of four. Well actually, that’s what I thought until at one point it was mentioned that there were twelve parents present. Add in a miscellaneous number of brothers and sisters and friends. There are two weddings, one for the males, and one for the females, and the first couple to marry, Aiyan and Kaden, seem to be in love at first sight and have a lot of sex—a LOT of it. This is the MM couple. The FF couple decide to marry and only be friends because Aiya loves Sawyer, a brother or foster brother of Kaden. I’m not quite sure because I was so surprised by the fact that his name is so different, I didn’t quite catch the relationship.

There was world-building, but not enough, and it was certainly difficult to follow with that cast of characters with similar-sounding names. There was also a heck of a lot of sex, MM, MF, and FF, though mostly it was MM between Ayan and Kaden. In fact, they were like bunnies. Every time I turned the audiobook back on, there was a sex scene.

The adventure picked up a bit toward the end, so I enjoyed that portion, which lasted about an hour, and then we were back to more sex scenes {yawn} and finally the ending of the story, which of course, is a to-be-continued since this is book one in a series.

I have to wonder if the narrator had to take laugh breaks after he finished one of those tongue twisting homonym names scenes. Honestly? I really don’t recommend this at all, and I certainly don’t recommend it in audio, only because the cast names make it way too difficult to follow. Plus, it’s easier to skip over the sex scenes in an e-book than it is in audio format. And no, I won’t be moving on with this series.

A world where everyone is gay or lesbian? This is a book that I haven’t read anything like it before and I am glad that I was given the chance to review it. Just a heads up for everyone this book contains M/M, M/F, and F/F sexual relations in it. If you are uncomfortable reading those situations, then this would not be the book for you.
Back to the story though, I did completely enjoy the whole aspect as to why everyone was the way that they are. I enjoyed how the science of everything was explained in a way that it was easy to follow for us non-science people. The details that were used in this story were done in the right balance. T.M. was able to describe the world and the characters to the degree that you could understand what was happening.
The different characters that are in the book, and trust me there is a bunch of them, were all written to where they each had their own personalities. They all seemed to complement each other and were able to work together throughout the book. Which ended up helping them in the long run.
My only complaint about this book, and it’s a sort of big one for me, there were so many characters! With each child, there are 4 parents’ total 2 mothers and 2 fathers. When the weddings, and afterwards, takes place there is 12 parents around total. It was VERY confusing. I wish that the author would have included a chart that explained who each person was and their relationships. That way it would have been easier to sort it out instead of flipping back and forth to several parts of the book.
All in all though, I did enjoy this book and I will keep an eye out for the next book in the series. Just a heads up to everyone who reads this book, there is a cliffhanger!

Ну и аннотация! Не могу пройти мимо, надо будет обязательно прочитать!

DNF at 17%

3.5 stars if that were possible. The idea of this book is really interesting, a future version of Earth where gay couples are the norm and being straight is considered an anomaly. It's a nice reminder that "normal" is just a concept defined by majorities and we shouldn't take it too seriously, nor rush when labeling something as "abnormal."

I do believe love is just that, not bound by gender and circumstances, and couple dynamics in this book draw you in. But it all seemed a bit rushed. There's a bunch of new names (and variations of them) right from the start, a lot of background details on the post apocalyptic world and its rules, and so many love stories that develop at the same time, that I think some parts of the story needed more attention. The version I downloaded from Amazon also needed some more editing, but I could overlook that.

The 2 mothers + 2 fathers family unit is quite fun to explore. Raven and Tanis are by far my favorite couple and there's a lot of potential for this story to evolve in future books. I am extremely curious to see how the new ruling family will interact.

I've had this book sitting on my Kindle for quite a while but for some reason, never got around to reading it. I think I was a little reluctant to start the book due to it being slightly outside my preferred reading choice. However, I'm glad I finally gave it a go because it really was quite interesting.

I was absolutely astounded at the level of detail in both the world and the characters as created by this author– and there were a LOT of characters. The early stages of the book were spent developing the world and introducing the reader to the cast.

This book is set in the future, in a world where global warming has resulted in the formation of seven 'houses' spread across the globe. It is also a world where homosexuality is the norm and to be attracted to the opposite sex makes you an Outkast, or one of the 'opposites'.

This story starts with the Aiyan and Aiya, twins of House Gaeland, waiting the arrival of their respective partners. Aiya has been matched with Maeve from House Orion and Aiyan with Kaden from House Devi. These are arranged marriages. Both the new arrivals are accompanied by their families and what follows is an interesting story as relationships develop.

But this is way it also got complicated– each child has two sets of parents (a pair of fathers and a pair of mothers) plus there are brothers, priests, guards, household staff. It definitely took me a while to get my head around who was who and I will admit to still getting some names confused at the end.

Aiyan and Kaden bond to each other immediately– lust and love from first sight. Aiya and Maeve form a deep friendship but it Sawyer, Kaden's brother who truly captures Aiya's heart. Maeve finds her own love interest but Aiya and Sawyer's male/female love match is not accepted by all and they must sneak around. Maeve's brother, Tanis, also finds himself drawn to the priest, and although priests being matched and married is not unheard of, his path to love isn't easy.

So the story follows the complex relationships developing– with lots of sex between couples– m/m, f/f and m/f– plus drama caused by rebels threatening House Gaeland. It ends with a 'to be continued' but not a traditional cliff-hanger as such.

I did find the story quite complex, and there was a little head-hopping which meant I had to focus to keep track of the details. But is you like stories about a fantasy future, with detailed world building and complex scenarios to get lost in, then this is definitely the book for you.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for my honest review. My copy did have a few typos but I assume these were corrected in future editions.

I am going to quote the first two paragraphs of the book to give you an idea of where this story starts.
“Calendar year 2081. Our planet has finally succumbed to Global Warming.”
“Dr. Anthony Smith, one of only a few thousand to survive Global Warming Ignition, has come to the conclusion that the destruction of our planet and society had been due to Injudicious Breeding which led (in his opinion) to overpopulation, WAR, unnatural climate changes, ….”
After the GWI and the destruction it wreaks, the survivors divide into seven countries, with a house that rules each of the lands.
A determination is made by him that there should only be homosexual marriages, with arranged marriages to another of the same sex, and then union between a man and a woman is formed for the purposes of procreation, leaving each child with two sets of parents; a male pair and a female pair.
Opposites is the story of the House Gaeland and the large family that is formed when two of the males are united by fate in marriage, and describes the life of a man and a woman who is promised and married, who find they are fated together. The problem is that Opposites or heterosexual people are Outkasts, and have formed small bands around the land, working to upset the houses of the world.
When the Outkasts kidnap one of the husbands in the main family, the whole family bands together to rescue him. The mission to rescue is a great read of stealth and hidden powers.
I have to say that although I loved this book, it took a lot to get used to all the people that are involved in the story. And one thing that made it so hard for me were the names, which often times were so similar, that only a letter was the difference in the names, such as Aiya and Aiyan. But once you do get used to that, and all the parents and children, the characters become well-developed.

After humanity nearly wiped itself extinct genetic profiling devised a solution. 200 years later families are comprised of same-sex parent groups, two fathers and two mothers. Marriages are arranged based on compatibility when possible, but for the ruling families political gain often overrules matters of the heart. Failing to adhere to the new world standard makes you an Outkast, shunned by society as a whole. Not everyone agrees with these long-held beliefs, social unrest is on the rise, and once again, the world is becoming a dangerous place where choices must be made between loyalty and love.

Aiyan and Aiya are identical twins with a bond that is stronger than most. Betrothed in their teens, the time has come for them to meet and marry their spouses. Aiyan is immediately drawn to his future husband, Kaden, and quickly realizes that he has been blessed to find his soul mate. Aiya's experience is quite different. While she respects and befriends her future wife, there is no denying the lack of romantic attraction. When she finds herself drawn to someone other than her future wife, she must decide whether to honor the political union or follow her heart.

Fast paced and well written, Opposites is the first in a series set far into the future. It challenges currently accepted norms and builds a fictional world where everything has changed. The storyline is complex and expertly developed in a way that draws readers deeper into the plot with each turn of the page. With an impressive cast of supporting characters, Opposites offers readers the chance to experience multiple stories within the story. It engaged my imagination and kept me guessing from the very first page. This series made me a fan for life and has put T.M. Smith on my list of must-read authors!

I love when I come across a book that is not my usual genre and I'm blown away because they take such an original way about their story you wonder why don't I read this genre more often? The tale Author T.M. Smith has created here for you is absolutely original and amazing. She writes an amazing cast of characters that you get involved with and really start caring about them. Without spoiling the story there were some "OH Snap!" Moments and some "ooooh lala" moments that had me seriously glued to the pages. It is rare that we find a surprise in books and I love that she surprised me twice in this book! There's the wonderful who dunnit mystery going on in here and the romance revolving around the characters is HAWT! I'm not surprised by how much I enjoyed the book and I'm anticipating the next in the series! If you enjoy something completely out of the box this is a read for you!! I can't wait for more from this author! I have found a new genre I love and a new author I look forward to in the future! Thank you for writing something different and taking me on an adventure I could never have dreamed up on my own! I love when that happens! You have a new fan here for sure! I give this book my thumbs up!

I have a (perhaps) unique perspective on this in that I listened to the novellas before the original novel. This helped me in that there are a LOT of characters and a LOT of world building going on – especially in the beginning. I can’t say I always kept track of who was who – I’m a far more visual person than auditory so my mind would wander a bit – but having the wonderful Greg Boudreaux narrating means that each character was unique and easily identifiable.

I found the concept of this story captivating and the romance(s) both really sweet and super sexy!

Usually I shy away from anything remotely “dystopian” as I tend to find them terribly pessimistic and dour, but this was almost like an entire other world and far less “doom and gloom” than the typical.

If you’re looking for a somewhat complicated, but rewarding and unique look at the future – and you really like some steam in your romances – this is the story (series) for you.

I think that listening to this is an amazing experience because Greg is such a tremendous performer. He really adds to the overall enjoyment by giving depth and emotion to the characters and making the story really pop up and feel multi-dimensional.

TM Smith, takes the reader into the future and introduces us to a different world one that forbids opposites from marring and that pairing are preselected and designed. This is dystopian type and style of book...with LGBT scenes, well written, great attention to details...At times the multiple characters will confuse you and have you rereading but as you finish the story it will eventually make some sense ...

Overall this is a book that may not be for everyone... I found the book interesting to a point but honestly this was just an ok intense at times confusing read on that if you do read, take your time with it...(speed readers beware...)

Rating the book was a bit complex for me since to me it was 3.5 stars for the storyline & such and a 4 stars for originality and uniqueness ...

Averaging the two I can honestly say it was 3.75 total stars.

Audiobook Review

There is a lot going on in this story, and I felt it difficult to follow the sudden change in point of view between a lot of characters. While a scene played out, it switched to each character pov as the story moved around the scene. Almost like a movie panning to each character and then going inside their mind. It took a few chapters to get used to this type of story telling, and was a bit disconcerting. This follows eight characters during their visit to House Gaeland, so once the names of each character is familiar, it is easier to follow. It is not my preference in point of view in storytelling, but I made the effort to enjoy the story anyway.

This world, as described in the blurb, is a same-sex pairing world. Women and men procreate through contracts, and each family has four parents in two same sex pairings. As this was a character based story, and not a lot of worldbuilding outside of character relationships, there is a thorough culture built around the ideals of gay relationships within this high bred society, and why these relationships are considered the norm. I’m not too clear on whether the couples have to go through heavy screening in order to conceive, or whether the DNA is altered in any way.

The society works on a base level of Eugenics, and gene manipulation, which of course is problematic. Being royalty, there is no mention of how the general world deals with the way this society procreates, and whether money is involved in the process, so it was difficult to gauge how well this world worked in full.

The relationships were swift between a few people, and I found it very fluffy and mushy. Again, not my favourite thing to read/listen to. I like a build up, and while there was a decent amount of tension with the potential straight couple, Aiyan and Kaden seemed to have sex at every opportunity, and I didn’t find their relationship development strong enough.

Opposites - the title of the story is pretty indicative of the direction of main plot point. The couple who are Opposites have to sneak around, fear persecution, and feel abnormal. Generally I enjoyed the story and found it interesting for the role reversal of society. It just wasn’t complete. It’s an interesting perspective, if a bit black and white. I prefer more diversity in my stories as a general rule, and there was no mention of sexuality as a spectrum, but this is only the beginning of the series so this may change as the series progresses.

Greg Boudreaux is a pretty solid narrator, with a very pleasing cadence, and can do some decent accents. His performance in this audiobook is pretty great, but then he is one of my preferred narrators, so clearly I am bias.

While the story is set in a futuristic time period, it has a very medieval feel to it, with the royal Houses. It also felt quite isolated and there was barely any contact with the general population. Some more attention to the wider world details would have made the story richer.

Recommended for those who enjoy stories set in a futuristic setting with an old world feel to it. There is explicit content between MM, FF, and MF couples.

The beginning of this book difficult to follow. The author had too many names that are similar so I would get lost on who was who & w/whom. But, the amazing Greg Boudreaux did help as he did a great job w/the different voices & accents. The first half didn't really have much of a plot, its Aiyan & Kanden jumping each other at every turn. And boy are they rough on the furniture, yes you will have to read it to understand what I mean. Also, I'm not sure exactly how old any of them are. Sometimes I get the feeling they are in their late teens and other times they appear to be full grown adults. I probably won't read the next books in the series, I will probably wait until they are out in audio as Mr. Boudreaux makes it easier to keep track of people. Or maybe not :)

Let me start off by telling you that I don’t normally read or listen to stories in the dystopian genre. I just have a really hard time getting into them, and usually find my attention drifting. With Opposites, that was so very not the case, and actually the…opposite…was true (sorry, couldn’t resist!). Take the world as you know it, where gays and lesbians are a clear minority, and reverse it—all the way to the point where heterosexual barely even exists. Can you imagine such a world? T.M. Smith did, and it is brought to life perfectly here in Opposites-so well in fact, that as you read it becomes very easy to become immersed in it and believe that somewhere this world really can be found.

This story is very much character driven, and those characters are as unique as the world in which they live. Their individuality is detailed and distinct, making them come alive in these pages…and the further into the story I got, the more wrapped up in them I became. Emotions between couples are clearly intense, and this shows not just in their interactions with each other-both in and out of the bedroom-but also with the other couples, families and other supporting characters. I was particularly drawn to Aiyan and Kaden as well as Raven and Tanis.

With Aiyan and Kaden, they are drawn to each other like powerful magnets from the moment they lay eyes on each other. Their match is unusually powerful, as is the relationship Aiyan shares with his twin sister Aiya. Aiyan and Kaden together define sensuality, and their intimate scenes are wild and a bit…destructive ;-)

When it comes to Raven and Tanis, angst and turmoil rules as Raven becomes torn between his duties and his feelings for Tanis, making their relationship especially tumultuous—and turning them into my favorite couple of this story even though much of this book is centered on Aiya, Aiyan, and their spouses.

With the drama introduced when the Opposites anomaly is thrown into the spotlight at House Gaeland, it sends events spiraling into unforeseen territory and you couldn’t have dragged me away from this story at any point (and heaven help anyone who might have thought about trying). In the end, we are left with questions and unrest, and it will have you desperately seeking the next book in the series just like I was.

While I might not normally care for this genre, Opposites blew that out of the water and was a 5-star read for me—and is my absolute top recommendation in the M/M dystopian genre (and the dystopian genre in general). I highly recommend this to any fan of LGBT romance in general, and if you’re a dystopian fan as well, then you’re going to be twice as happy. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and some very naughty sexual content.

Audiobook thoughts: Greg Boudreaux does a smashing job with the narration of this book. His character voices are distinctive and consistent throughout the story, and they are also consistent with the two novellas from this series that he also narrated, The Library and The Cellar. It’s the mark of a truly talented narrator when I can hear a character’s voice and know exactly who is speaking without having to be told in the story. He brings this world and these characters to life beautifully, making it very easy for me to clearly picture everything in my head. 5 stars for this performance, and this is one audiobook-and series-that I’ll be listening to again and again! *Note-I do suggest that you read the book before listening to it.  There are a lot of character POV changes, and from my perspective it helped me to have a general idea of what was going on before listening.

Original Blog Post:

My Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars

*WARNING* Opposites is a majorly M/M New Adult novel that contains explicit sexual content and relationships between gay, lesbian and straight couples. - This means there are MM, MF, & FF scenes.

I first read Opposites when it was first published back in June so I really thought this one would be the same. I was surprised when I found out that this edition has not only been edited, there were parts of the story line that were changed.

This is a story of what the world could be should there be a genetic manipulation on the sexuality of the male and female human species. Based on the theory that man's inbreeding was one of the major factors that eventually destroyed the world as we know it today, the scientist and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic event managed to manipulate man's DNA and made them all homosexuals.

When the book opens, it introduces the readers to a society so curious it could boggle the mind. Here we have two men and two women marrying, pairing up and producing children. Each royal house is set on the highest mountain peaks as the world is now mostly water. This reminded me a bit of Waterworld but that is where the similarity ends. This world is curiously simple and yet quite complicated.

We have royal twins Aiya and Aiyan who are matched to be married. Aiyan to Kaden of House Devi and Aiya to Maeve of House Orion. When Aiyan and Kaden meet, they hit it off magnificently. But for Aiya and Maeve, now that is the question. You see, it seems that an anomaly is surfacing: the Opposites or the Outkasts. And Aiya just happens to fall for Kaden's foster brother and loyal bodyguard, Sawyer, who is an Outkast. And then there is Maeve's maverick brother, Tanis, who falls for Raven, the Priest himself!

This is when things get complicated.

Opposites is a pretty lengthy and daunting novel. First, there is a huge cast of characters. Then author takes the opportunity to introduce a dystopic Earth where families rule the seven countries that survived GWI. These families each have their own set of royal family or House composed of four rulers: two men and two women. Traditions, both old and new, are fully integrated into the plot to guarantee a full picture of the culture about to be discovered. These traditions are laced with rules as set by the scientist, Dr. Anthony Smith.

Nature, however, will always find a way. Nature will fight for itself. The rising of the Outkasts or Opposites (heterosexuals) is complicating a world steeped in tradition and many questions arise.

It was fascinating to read how the lives of the young royals were to play out. The rising of an unknown, yet powerful, element is both unexpected and horrifying.

Unfortunately, the tale ends just where it gets to the most interesting part. This took me by surprise, just as I finally found the focus I wanted for this book. Frustrating as that may sound, I am also curious how the plot turns. With the new complications arising, the question of how the young royals and their foster brothers are going handle the unknown is an answer I am looking forward to.

T.M. Smith has managed to create a world that could only be imagined at in these times. Interesting, fascinating, daunting, this is a story to watch out for. And to think about.

What if?

Note: Review based on updated version of Opposites. This is a re-edited and re-released version different from the June, 2013 release.

Opposites (Book one) by T.M. Smith

The global apocalyptic of the year 2081 and the planet actually survived it. Dr. Smith, one of the few survivors of the GWI started a new and amazing new society which I enjoyed so much. He believed that the breeding of straight people led to the destruction of civilization so he started a new society. He was able to manipulate the Dionysus gene. This new gene has the capabilities to manipulate human DNA to make sure that all male babies were born gay and all female babies were born lesbian and this is now the new world he created.

In the year 2300 Dr. Smiths descendants are maintaining the control of the government that still rules this amazing and unique society. The Twins Aiya and Aiyan have to meet their love matches and take over the House Gaeland but not everything is as it appears. Aiyan has fallen in love with his soul mate Kaden and his match is everything he has ever wanted and he marries him. The person Aiya falls for will test everything that was put in place after GWI. There is a group that threatens everything this new society stands for and they're called....OPPOSITES!!!

When I came across this novel, I fell instantly in love with it, come on, a world where being gay is the norm and being straight is the abnormal. I would love to live in a world that T.M. Smith has created and she is so detailed and descriptive with this new society that it spoke to me in volumes. Her writing of these fascinating and beautiful characters is out of this world and she makes the reader take such an interest in them and you want to know them on a personal level and to me that is an amazing author. What I loved most is the pairing that she did with these characters that you feel...oh wow these couples totally belong with each other. The time she has invested in them has paid off so well as they are some of the best that I have ever read about.

T.M. Smith wrote in such detail about the people and this new society so well that the reader will completely understand this unique and beautifully new world. The hot sex scenes were so brilliantly done and so steamy that you will find yourself re-reading those scenes...OMG...HOT....HOT!!! I loved the characters of Tanis and Raven, they hit me in such a beautiful way, I adore them and their pairing. When Aiya and Maeve match up is when things get complicated and this is when the OPPOSITES appear as Aiya actually falls for one of them and things start to get messy. There is a huge amount of characters as the couples who match up actually produce heirs and so on but the author does it with such great finesse and very detailed writing that you will not get confused by any means.

This novel is very fast paced and so well written and OPPOSITES is the first book in the series and at the end of this novel you will be dying for book 2. Appearances (Book 2) is out this summer-2014. Everyone needs to read this novel...OPPOSITES by T.M. Smith as it's an amazing and brilliant piece of writing and how the author created such a unique world filled with the most fascinating characters. I can't recommend this book enough and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I so would be. If you like reading about hot characters, unique worlds, Dystopia and beautiful and hot love scenes than OPPOSITES is the book for you!!!!

I would like to take a moment to thank the author for providing me a complimentary copy of her book in exchange for an honest review. Providing such does not sway my review at all.

Honestly, about twentysomething pages in I was ready to chuck this book out the window. No, the story wasn't bad. No, the sex scenes weren't offensive. The fact is, that I needed a organizer because there were so many names tossed in to the pot at this time that I couldn't keep track of who was who at that moment. I stepped away for a few moments though and came back to it, and it was like the book read my mind because suddenly all the extra names went away and the actual story really started.

From the beginning the book blurb really attracted me to this book. Our future world were men married men, women married women and anything else was just seen as odd and these Opposites would be banished from influential roles and made to live as Outkasts. Hmmm..what would that be like? Yes, our current world is coming around to the LGBT community, but we are nowhere near where we should be. Thankfully our world is ever evolving. I remember being a young child and the whispers heard about a friends mom because she was, gasp, divorced. It wasn't that long ago when African Americans couldn't even drink out of the same water fountains as whites. It also wasn't that long ago when living together before marriage was considered a huge sin and if that couple was interracial, it was just blasphemous. There are still people in our world that are prejudice, but there are even more people in this world that are open minded and excepting. This book and the author gives the reader an eye opener, not just to the physical side of a relationship, with the portrayal of the power of love to a level that just takes the readers breath away.

The story itself is a statement of how love is love. It is not a life style choice, but the way you are from birth. There are instant attractions and how confusing it is for a person who was raised a certain way to experience an attraction that is contradictory to their upbringing. In this case, how being attracted to the opposite sex is abnormal. How families deal with the contradiction and how they realize that it isn't who a person loves that defines them but how they are the same person through and through and that love is love.

There is also a supernatural element to the story that is very intriguing. Aiyan has a deep connection with those he is closest too and can feel when they are hurt or in harms way. Aiya has some element of the same and later in the story things are starting to get pieced together. It brought out the questions that I had in the back of my mind while reading and gave a perspective to them.

This isn't just the story of Aiyan and Aiya, but also about their father and mothers and their partners family and how even the most promiscuous person can find their soulmate in the most peculiar of situations. This is not a book for those that are offended by graphic sexual situations. I also do not recommend this book to those under the age of 18. Personally, I didn't realize just how graphic this book was until I actually started reading it. This book is not one I would normally read, but I have a pretty open mind about sex and sexuality so I was not offended by what was told, in graphic details.

3 star review by Roberta

I saw this book and was kinda intrigued with it. It made me wonder if this book would be as good as it sounded and it kinda was.

200 years in the future there are only a handful of surviving countries that survived GWI (Global Warming Incident) and there are seven ruling houses. Aiyan and Aiya are from the House Gaeland and they are next to rule along with their future Wife (Aiya) and Husband (Aiyan). House Gaelan is located in the Colorado Mountains. They rule over USA, Canada, Alaska and surrounding areas.

Aiyan is betrothed to Kaden and theirs is a true Love Match. From the first moment they touched, it was just over. They were the perfect match for the other. I liked that these two had some time to get to know each other. Even with the attraction that they felt riding them hard…but they still took the time to get to know each other. I liked that Kaden was a virgin and he wouldn’t sleep with Aiyan before their marriage vows. I really liked that these two men were equals in their relationship. There was no Alpha/submissive regarding their relationship. It was sweet and tender and very loving.

Aiya and Maeve’s relationship was different. These two women became friends and even though their relationship wasn’t like Aiyan and Kaden’s. The way that it was supposed to be…it was still a really strong, special relationship. The love and friendship and true caring that they shared was just as strong as Aiyan and Kaden’s….it was just different. I like that they also took the time to get to know each other and become friends that they shared such a special bond.

There was lots of sex in this book. LOTS. There was m/f, f/f and m/m sex happening in this book. I know that it says that on the blurb…but I wanted to make sure that you really get it. There was more m/m sex happening in this story. There was a bit of f/f sex happening. There was just a bit of m/f sex happening. I wanted to let you know, so that you’re not surprised. The sex in here was pretty graphic. That’s always a plus in my mind. You could feel the way that the characters felt about each other in the way their intimate scenes played out. All but Maeve’s intimate scenes, her scenes were just about sex and that’s ok too.

I will say that one of the things that truly got to me was the editing in this book. I started getting frustrated with all the incorrect wording, the grammatical errors and there were those on EVERY PAGE!! Seeing apostrophes in the wrong place that change the meaning of the word being used. This just really made it hard to stay in the story for me. I really feel that these issues distracted me from what was happening in the story as I had to stop and figure out what was meant to be said.

The blurb actually gives you a good idea on what the book is about. There were a few surprises and that was nice. Overall, this was a really nice book, even with the editing issues that I really hope that gets better.

My Review~
I received this book in exchange for a honest unbiased review.
Okay love the cover, because it is beautiful and stunning. This is technically my type of genre or my normal read, so I was outside my normal zone. However, I was pleasantly surprise at how interesting and intriguing this read is. The author has done a great job with the storyline, plot, and characters. I would however suggest that people that are sensitive to gay population be warned and also that this book does contain some sexual content that may offend some. Other than that the read is really good. The books main focus is that of love and that it encompasses everyone. Aiydan and his partner are funny and love their personalities. Aiya is an awesome character also. I'm having a hard time putting everything into words, especially my thoughts. I haven't read a book with gay or lesbian relationships in it, so pretty much I keep thinking interesting...I will add more when my thoughts and emotions catch up with the other. Otherwise, I give this book a 4 star review for a intriguing read.

Amazon book description~~

Twins Aiya and Aiyan are preparing to meet their matches and take control of House Gaeland, the current ruling House. But not everything is as it seems.

Love is Love.. it knows no gender and doesn’t conform to restrictions and boundaries.

*WARNING* Opposites is a majorly M/M New Adult novel that contains explicit sexual content and relationships between gay, lesbian and straight couples

My Review

Wow, Where Do I Begin. This was A wicked new start to a series!!
Beautiful cover Art, I fell in love with book just on that alone.

"You could never embarrass me, you are my partner, we will walk through life together. Iwill not follow, but neither will i lead"

TM Smith Has done an OUTSTANDIG AMAZING job at reserching al the different cultures for this story alone, i cant belive on how many different and beautiful cultures we learn about reading this one. I love MM Stories and i love that in this New World that being straight(outcasted) was not aloud or wasnt "Right" It really put a different Spin on things,You See Every one is meant to Marry someone of the same sex.

"I can't tell you how badly i want you... almost as much as i love you"

There were alot of characters to keep up with, the main two were Twins Aiydan and Aiya they are to meet there Matches and take control of the house, the ruling House. But things get interesting when the two meet there Matches While Aiydan has a instant connection With Kaden,His soulmate and Heart everything that he is. For Aiya things do not go to plan falling in love with a male is not what she expected, and wasnt what she was meant to do with Sawyer. It was Forbidden there love was not seen as Normal. Her Match was Maeve the sister of her brothers Match she also didnt feel the connection she was meant to have with Aiya.

Their cocks were rutting together as Aiyan ran his fingers in and out of Kaden's ass, keeping the pace with his tongue inside kaden's mouth

I really loved the concept and freash new spin on this , with it being my first dystopion story i found myself loving everything about it. We get to watch Aiydan and Kaden fall in love with each other more, watching them get to know each other was cute and fun, Watcing Aiya struggle to do the right thing and with lots of twist and turns and omg page turning moments this is a fabulous story you wont want to miss out on.

There is plenty of sex,MM, FF, MF sex all sorts of HOT HOT Moments so if that not for you maybe you should go find something else to read, but for me it was PERFECT i freaking LOVED it.

"You have to understand that you two go against everything we believe, everything our society is based on."

Jealousy, Love, Plot, Laughter and Action Sets for an AWESOM Romantic MM, MF, FF Story!!

** Romance <3 ✔

A striking cerebral piece of fiction set in a future that is part Utopia, part Dystopia. Innovative and ground breaking work from Author T.M. Smith. Contemporary Science fiction at it's best. Humanity rises from the ashes of near apocalypse and becomes more cerebral and peaceful. Almost perfect but not quite. A future alternate Earth where mankind is almost driven into extinction until a scientist named Dr Smith isolates the Dionysis gene, removing what he considered humanities flaws - violence, savagery prevalent in the gene that produced heterosexuality. Artificial insemination and gene manipulation made the gene almost extinct, but nature always finds a way. Every now and then a child is born with the gene and cast out of the new normal society. Children born between man and woman are deemed 'Outkasts' and those that are heterosexual are known as 'Opposites'.

The universe building is sublime. The History thought provoking and intelligent. The characters are fully dimensional and complex. Aiyan and his sister Aiya and put each into arranged marriages. Aiyan finds love at first sight with his match Kaden. There is instant passion and tenderness between the two men. Try as his sister might, Aiya cannot find an attraction between her and her beautiful fiancée Maeve. To Aiya's relief, Maeve has little romantic feeling for her either, as she lusts after the House's maid. Aiya has her own reasons for the lack of passion for her future other half. She becomes increasingly drawn to Sawyer - Kaden's adopted brother. Orphaned Sawyer was born of Outkasts and was taken into a great House when he saved the life of Kaden. The two brothers Sawyer and Kaden have a strong pure bond and Sawyer's coming out as a 'Opposites' does not change his brotherly feelings for him. This is why Kaden is my favorite character in the novel. His good heart and compassion make him instantly lovable and you can see why Aiyan is so smitten with him. The clever storyline illustrates how love is beautiful no matter the form it takes. Out two 'Opposites' Sawyer and Aiya form a sweet and romantic relationship against all odds. As Sawyer is a good natured guy, I really rooted for the pairs love. Many could learn from this story. It is a powerful piece of modern literature that I couldn't put down. A original, beautiful and profound book.

Review written for MM Good Book Reviews

Aiyan and his twin sister Aiya are both nervous to be meeting their matches, strangers picked out for them by their parents to be their spouses, but Aiyan has nothing to worry about from the second he sets eyes on Kaden. Aiya has a harder time when she meets Maeve, her intended, because her eyes keep straying to Sawyer, Kaden’s adopted brother. Living in a world where being gay or lesbian is the norm and being straight leads to you being Outkast, Aiya is caught between doing what is expected and what she longs for.

This is quite an interesting story of a future society who goes back to basics and also makes homosexuality the norm. Aiyan, Kaden, Aiya and Maeve are the main couples in this story and while Aiyan and Kaden have a perfect match Aiya and Maeve have to work at theirs, it doesn’t help that neither woman is attracted to the other or that Aiya’s eye keeps straying to a man. But, that is the least of their worries when a jealous servant causes trouble and a group of Outkast’s seek revenge on the ruling Houses.

There are many people who play a part in this story and who’s relationships we follow, Aiyan, Aiya, Kaden, Maeve, Raven, Tanis, Sawyer and Autumn along with their parents. It does get confusing at times as to who is doing what and who is speaking because the perspective changes very quickly with no warning, but you get used to the writing style and manage to keep up. There are some beautiful details that explain the history and culture and we get a lot of background details as to how the world now works. The actual storyline is interesting and keeps you reading as you want to know how it is going to be resolved, but then bam something new happens and takes it in a new exciting direction. There is some explosive sex with an array of couples, ranging from erotic M/M to sensual F/F to tender M/F, there is definitely something for everyone in this book.

I will recommend this to those who love a futuristic Earth, same sex societies, hot sex, great characters, a good storyline, danger, kidnapping, rescues and plenty of hot loving.

"Marriage should be between a spouse and a spouse, not a gender and a gender." - Hendrik Hertzberg

in a distant future, Dr. Anthony Smith worked hard to ensure that injudicious breeding would no longer pose a threat to the survival of the human race. twins Aiya and Aiyan, of the ruling House of Gaeland and descendants of Dr. Smith, are about to meet their betrothed. in the days to follow, each of the twins would prove that "love is love" and it knows no gender...
author T.M. Smith's debut novel introduces the reader to a different world where gay and lesbian relationships are the norm and heterosexual relationships are not. it is an uncommon and daring story that explores how society has evolved especially with regard to same gender relationships.
from the get go, i was impressed with Ms. Smith's worldbuilding and her attention to detail as she talks about food, clothing and customs of this dystopian society. there are also many characters involved whose personalities are distinct and are as colorful as the garments they wear or the tattoos inked on their skin.
it took some time getting used to the flow of the story though as people and scenes suddenly shift from one to the next. however, i soon got past that difficulty and settled in comfortably to read the rest of the twins' story.
the sexual situations are very graphic but they are crucial to the storyline and in being true to the overall theme that love knows no gender. there are plenty of non-erotic moments as well. there is also humor in some pages involving Aiyan and Kaden and the couple's propensity for breaking things.
the best part for me, i think, was the middle to last part of the book. things got more exciting when conflicts arose, lives and loves were threatened and secrets were revealed.
although, this book was edited, i still think it could benefit from some further editing.
all things considered, i enjoyed the book. it may not be for everyone but its intended audience may enjoy it for its being unique, bold and highly imaginative.

I need to say that this book has some grammatical issues that you have to look past. I know many people get turned off by this but, get over it. Since this story occurs in a time and place of the author’s own making, the first two chapters are setting up the setting and introducing characters. At times, it was information overload. Some readers say that if they can’t get into the book within the first two chapters, they stop reading it and move on. I have been guilty of this too. But, because this is a solicited review I could not do that. So, I kept going. And boy, am I glad I did.

Once the story really gets going, I fell for Aiya and Aiyan. I know this book is supposedly more about Aiyan and Kaden’s story but, I kept yearning for more Aiya and Sawyer. Although Aiya is betrothed to Maeve, even I felt the sparks between Aiya and Sawyer. A futuristic version of the rich girl loving the boy from across the tracks. But theirs is a connection was made in heaven. Forbidden love. Le sigh...

Aiyan and Kaden have the love at first sight thing down to a science. They are hot and heavy from second one. Their love is what everyone wishes they had.

Tanis and Raven. Wow what to say. For some reason my thoughts went to the Thornbirds. The priest who is tempted. Except in this world, it is allowed. Thank whatever entity you pray to for that!

There is more to this book than I have written about, but I don't want to pick the book apart, I want you to go read it!

At times, you get to peek into the lives of all the parents and their relationships. But it isn’t until The Library that we get to really start learning more about them.

I give the Opposites 3.5 Hearts.

In this new world everyone is married to someone of the same sex. Oppossite pairings are forbidden and against the law. Aiya an Aiyan are set to marry their matches and for Aiyan he is set with his dream match. For Aiya she doesn't feel the same way. She likes her match but not in that way. Sawyer a new guy makes her heart race and even when she knows it is forbidden she still wants him. Besides trying to hide their feelings a new danger has rose up and all may be in danger of losing their lives.

I love the concept of this story. veryone being with someone of the same sex and everyone being testing to see who would make the best children is just so different. There is lots of characters to get to know as you read this book and at first I was a little confused by them all but once I got it all sorted out I was ready to see more of all of them. Aiya and Aiyan have a special connection and that is a connection they share with the ones they love. While Aiya tries to hide her feelings for Sawyer Aiyan is falling more in love with his husband. However not everyone is happy with the way things are going. They plan to tear apart the happy couples and change how the world is run. There is plenty of love scenes in this book so if same sex scenes disturb you this book may not be the book for you. There is plenty of action as well as they have to fight to protect those they love. Jealousy, love and so much more make up this fascinating world and I look forward to reading more about all the couples. If I would change anything it would be to concentrate more on just a few couples but this book was introducing all the characters so it was understandable.

This is the first book in T.M. Smith’s debut series also called Opposites. This was the first book I had read from this author and the first that contained f/f relations. My favorite part of this book is the world it is set in. In 2081 the Earth was flooded due to Global Warming and the population seriously decimated. One of the surviving scientists decided that injudicious breeding was the downfall of the planet and to combat this he decided to manipulate the gene code so that all babies would be born gay or lesbian.

Now 200 years into the future there are seven surviving countries split all over the world and many modern conveniences have disappeared. These seven countries are ruled by seven houses which in turn are ruled by The Order. While this all sounds very confusing once you start reading you become completely immersed in this new culture.

This book was so amazing to me because not only was the author able to create a new world but she was able to write a book with six main characters and have you love all of them. I think being able to experience the story through the POV of many different characters allowed me to truly immerse myself in the story and the plight of the main characters.

There are a lot of intimate relations in this book of all varieties (m/m, f/f and m/f) so if that offends you then do not read this book. However, I would say that the intimacy helps you realize the depth of the bonds between some of the characters and gives the reader insight into the relationships.

Overall I loved this book and am eagerly awaiting the second book.

Wow! when I read the synapses for this book I was totally intrigued, I don't usually read books like this but its unusualness is right us my ally. I love books that take people out of their comfort zones and totally shake them up and this book does that! while at the same time as giving you the sense that your in a safe and nurturing environment.

T.M. Smith is defiantly a creative and very brilliant writer, I was captivated by the characters and the story from the start! The idea that a world could exist where same sex couples are the norm was an amazing and ingenious idea to me, I of course being an opposite (a person who likes boys) would be considered an outcast but that is ok as this world was just too cool, as were the people in it.

I did have a little trouble at first keeping up with all the names of all the different couples and the different people as I found the names were a little too similar to each other. I totally got why the twins had similar names but thought the rest of the names all being alike was just over kill and made keeping track of who was who confusing.

I loved the storyline and so enjoyed reading this book, my favourite couples were Raven and Tanis and Aiyan and Kayden. I loved Raven and Tanis because they found love with each other against all odds, and Aiyan and Kayden were so fun and full of love and laughter.

This is defiantly a book for mature audiences only as it had a lot of Sexual Content but it is worth the read if you are willing.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It’s a wonderfully created, whole new world. After an apocalyptic event caused by global warming, survivors started a new society. In this new society same sex matches are the norm. The survivors concluded that overpopulation due to opposite sex breeding was to blame for the global warming. DNA is manipulated to ensure everyone is gay. And if you’re not, you’re either outcast or killed. The House of Gaeland is celebrating the matching of twins Aiya and Aiyan. However, not everyone is happy in this new society. What happens when you discover your soul mate is not the same sex? Could you live as an outcast? Would you fight for the right to love who you want?

I loved the new world created in this story. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. If you don’t like hot scenes between same sex couples, this book is not for you. It was hot. I enjoyed the intertwining love stories between all the different couples. I loved that all the characters were open to love and embraced it. They didn’t deny their feelings or try to fight them. Parts of this book had me at the edge of my seat. I couldn’t believe some of the twists an turns we were taken on. I also enjoyed the bickering between Maya and Rian, two of Aiya and Aiyan’s parents. Overall, a well written, sexy hot read that left me wanting more.
