Recommended for 15+ for some violence, adult themes of dating, and peril.
Wow. Where to begin?! I loved this book! I'm not usually into thriller/peril books, but I am acquainted with the author and it was a Christian book. Having loved Tundra Threat, I decided to download this book.
Sarah Varland's imagination is absolutely fabulous. I wonder how she manages to sleep at night, coming up with the perilous situations that she does! Without giving too many details away, let's just say that things get interesting when you combine a historian-loving police woman, a dedicated pastor, and Blackbeard's hidden treasure stash. Will the bad guys get away with a murder that broke Shiloh's heart? Will she and Adam be able to overcome their past and learn to trust each other again? And is all that Blackbeard stuff just a legend - or does his gold really exist?
For those of you who like a solid Christian story, bear in mind that Shiloh starts off as a back-slidden Christian. The other hero of the story, Adam, definitely is not. He is a solid Christian pastor. I actually liked the contrast between the two and felt that it was a Christian story even if Shiloh was backslidden (from circumstances that would cause even the best of Christians to falter). I was pleased with the ending.
I liked Adam a lot. Since I couldn't really identify with a police woman (even though Shiloh was definitely an interesting character), Adam was the guy I could relate to. As a bi-vocational pastor of a small church who understood the pressures of ministry and the constant need to set a good example, I really related to him and enjoyed the details of the pressures of ministry. They were very accurate, if not a little down-played in intensity. (Yeah, people really do study your every move like a hawk...)
The suspense was amazing. The plot was fun and intense. I did feel that the main characters put themselves into one compromising situation that I personally would not have taken, but, again, it's up to every couple to decide their boundaries. So I did not take offense. The ending wrapped up very swiftly and maybe a little too easily with the way everything fell into place, but who cares? It was a fun read with lots of adventure.
Recommended for lovers of thrillers/adventure, history buffs (there is history!), and those who like a good story with Christianity generously sprinkled throughout. 15+. Do not read if you will take offense by couples dating or women serving in the police force.

Ok, I am going to put it out there- I am biased. Sarah and I have been friends for a few years and when she said that she was writing a book, I immediately told her I wanted her on my site! Sarah is an amazing mother and woman and I wanted to support her in any way I could. That being said- I generally hate mysteries. If you know me at all, you know I am much more of a fairy tale or fantasy reader. I also told Sarah that I had to be honest with my review- whether I liked it or not, because I really try to write with integrity. If I didn't like the book, it wasn't going on my site.
Well all that to say- I really did enjoy Treasure Point Secrets. I loved the history and (hello!) pirates that the mystery surrounded. It made me want to do research on people that I thought were fictional. The main characters were incredibly interesting to me. Shiloh was give or take with me- the real character that fascinated me was Adam. He was a new pastor and his church was giving him grief for what he was choosing to do (and watching him ALL THE TIME to see if he slipped up). His storyline sadly felt so authentic and real (perhaps not to my life but authentic in that it something that does happen.)
The mystery was good- I like that the action was throughout the book and built up to an intensity- she literally was in danger throughout the entire book. I thought the book was a quick read and one that I absolutely would recommend to others.

Treasure Point Secrets was a enjoyable fast read. It had suspense, lots of action, romance, treasure, pirates and it was a clean read. It does bring up prayer and faith in a natural way. One of the main characters is a Minster.
Shiloh Evans is the main character and starts off with someone trying to kill her right off from the start. She used to be a history professor. Now she is a cop that someone wants her dead.
Adam Cole has just moved to Treasure Point, Georgia. He starts preaching at his first church that he will be the main preacher. On his way into town he starts off on the wrong foot.
Five years ago Shiloh and Adam dated. Also five years ago Shiloh's cousin was killed working a case. Shiloh has been trying to solve since.
This is a nice book that has a lot of adventure as they try to solve the past of their relationship and the case to figure out who is trying to kill Shiloh now. It kept me guessing along the way.
I would read another book by Sarah Varland in the future.

I absolutely loved this book! Strong lead characters sharing their struggles with fear and faith. Treasure, mystery, murder, and of course, romance. This was my first book by Sarah Varland and I’m looking forward to more!

An enjoyable read. It is suspenseful, but not scary and keeps the reader engaged.

Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Who it was did not make entire sense to me. There needed to be more to lead up to who did it in my opinion.

November 4, 2014This was a very enjoyable book. It had an interesting plot with believable characters. The mystery was intriguing and wasn't obliterated by a schmaltzy "hey we're suddenly in love" romance. It had great depth and interesting layers to the story. I whole-heartedly recommend it.

A romance that has the good and evil in it alone with History that goes back all the way to 1700's and buried Treasure also a look into what God plan for Adam and Shiloh with a second chance of love and how they over came what people think about what a wife for a Pastor should be.

Sarah Varland's first book is a hit with me. I loved the characters and the suspense kept me turning pages. I look forward to her future endeavors.
