This novel is a work of fiction and contains strong sexual situations and violence that may be disturbing to some readers.
Read at your own risk.
Sydney DeCarlo has a dark past, one she prefers to keep in the past. She’s a survivor and has made her living counselling kids who have also survived the same nightmare.
When the FBI and NYPD call her in to assist on a case, her past comes roaring back.
Enter Detective Gabriel Torres.
Gabe is tall, dark and handsome and immediately feels a connection with Sydney.Sydney's been called in to assist in the investigation of raped and murdered young women and he’s not sure she’s the right person for the job.
But Sydney’s connection to this case is more than anyone could ever imagine. Can Gabe save her from her past? Or will her nightmare be the death of her?
I don't like to be mean, because it takes a lot to put yourself out there as an author. This has promise, but really needs some editing for all things grammatical. I can overlook editing if the story is good enough, but there are just too many inconsistencies in this one. The character's reactions are often juvenile(ie: stupid) and several events are just implausible. I gave it a good shot but had to give up:(

"Who in the Hell do you think you are? I fuck you once and you think you own me? I don't think so. I am my own person. I will not allow this monster to rule my life, not again. Now, I think it's time for you to go."
That scene gave me chills. It’s a testament to the fact that Sydney is a true survivor and that strength comes from within. Sydney DeCarlo has an extremely troubled past; one she thought was over. She's a psychologist and helps the NYPD with profiling for cases as well as counseling kids that have been victims of traumatic crimes. Although this helps her heal, it also deeply affects her.
Gabe Torres is a cop first and foremost until he meets Sydney. They develop an instant attraction and sparks fly until they realize they'll be working on the same case. Gabe is dominant and over-protective. Sometimes, he’s over-bearing and can be irritating when things don’t go his way. If you like strong alpha men, Gabe is for you.
This book was a great read. It touches subjects that are hard to hear about and even harder to read. It also shows the spirit of a true survivor. This book was fast paced and definitely a good read, but there were editing issues and some minor problems with the flow of the writing. If these were corrected, the book would rate higher.
I still, however, recommend this book and will definitely read the next book in the series.
What a great read! Sexy, suspensful somewhat dark thriller! The characters are well developed and you'll fall in love with Gabriel and Sydney! ! I don't want to give anything away but it will have you on the edge of your seat! I couldn't read it fast enough to find out what was going to happen then BOOM...you'll be like what the .....! Bravo Christa Lynn! ! If I could give it more than five ☆ I would! I was given an ARC for an honest review
**ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review by the girls and I at www.sizzlingpages.com **
Romantic Suspense stories are truly my favorite type of books even if I don't get to read them much - and this
book had me in it's grips from the beginning. It was so hard to put down - I seriously considered calling off of work so I could get the pleasure of finishing it sooner.
Sydney is one of the strongest women you will ever meet. After everything she endured as a teenager, it was truly inspiring how she rose above her pain and memories to help others that endured the same type of trauma.
Then there is Gabe, the sexy hot detective that catches Sydney's eye in a bar. Little did they both know that they would be working together on a case that could potentially break Sydney. Once Gabe sees Sydney again at the police station, he knows he has to have her - the attraction is undeniable, even Sydney has a hard time denying it. But there's so much Gabe doesn't know about her past - and the new case is going to thrust Syndey into another nightmare. This time though, Gabe will be there to protect her, at least he hopes to be.
Before you read this book, definitely take into mind the reader warning about violence and strong sexual situations. I personally felt all descriptions of Syndey's past abuse were handled as delicately as they could be, without going into too much detail. I don't want to give much of the story away, but if you are in need a smokin' romantic suspense then this book is definitely for you. Gabe and Syndey were hot together and the story line will keep you guessing until the end.
I received a complimentary copy of Reprisal in exchange for an honest review!
Reprisal is definitely a great book; dark & suspenseful with hot, steaming romance! Christa Lynn takes us in to the dark world of Dr. Sydney DeCarlo as she tries to go about her everyday life as a Psychologist, helping the NYPD & FBI and working with kids that have gone through the most horrific thing someone can go through, but also trying to forget about her own demons from over 20 years ago. As the nightmares reappear after being gone for so long, she can't help but fear something bad is going to happen! While out with her best friend to relieve some stress, she sees him! Standing between 2 guys ready to kill each other.....the cop, bouncer, or whatever his is, is the hottest thing Syd has seen in a long time! Dark hair, dark eyes, scruffy chin & a body to die for.....she can't take her eyes off of him! He makes her typically vanilla mind go to places it's never been before! When their eyes meet, she's frozen to her spot!
NYPD Detective Gabriel Torres is working his second job as a bouncer at a bar! He knows it's gonna be a rough night b/c there's a game on the TV and the crowd tends to get rowdy while cheering on their team! While waiting for the drunks to start getting crazy, he sees her! Sitting at a back table is one of the most stunning women he's even seen! Long dark hair, dark mysterious eyes & sexy body! Unfortunately, before he gets a chance to introduce himself, a fight breaks out & while he's dealing with them, she disappears!
Neither one of them could have imagined that within hours, they would be thrown together on a case with the NYPD that would change their lives forever! Can Sydney get passed her nightmares & finally find love & happiness or will her past completely destroy everything she's worked to rebuild?! Will Gabe be able to hold on to his promises & protect Sydney at all cost, or will they be torn apart before they're ever really together?!
Reprisal is such an amazing book.....I didn't want to put it down! Christa Lynn gives us so much in this book.....raw emotions of the characters, heated, mind-blowing passion & 'on the edge of your seat' suspense! It is definitely a 5-Star for me & I can't wait to read more from her!!
This is my first book by Christa Lynn and it took me by surprise. I loved it! Call me twisted, but I am a fan of darker books, and this was a home run for me. I will mention that that this book has some scenes that are not for the faint of heart, and at times were difficult to read.
Dr. Sydney DeCarlo suffered a traumatic past and has fought through her demons to become a strong and independent woman. Her troubled past prevents her from getting involved in relationships, and when men get to close to her she pushes them away. She works as a forensic psychologist counseling children that have suffered abuse. Her expertise in the field, from both personal experience and schooling, is how she ended up working with the NYPD and FBI to help solve cases. And that's how she meets Detective Gabriel Torres.
Dt. Gabriel Torres lives and breathes his job. NYPD detective by day, bouncer by night. He is strong and sexy, and did I mention sexy? When he meets Sydney he knows there is something about her. Working a horrific case together he learns of her troubled past. He vows then and there to protect her at all cost, that she will never experience something so terrible ever again.
But when the case starts hitting too close to home, will he be able to keep his promise to keep her safe? Will Sydney let go of her fears and drop the walls around her heart to let Gabe in? Will she be able to let go of her demons for good and find love and happiness in the arms of Gabe?
Christa Lynn did an incredible job delivering this story. As I stated earlier, some scenes were difficult to read but I appreciated the fact that something so twisted was NOT sugar coated. It was all laid out perfectly and it made you feel for the characters that much more. The plot was well thought out and the story moved at a great pace. Some super steamy sex scenes and the element of suspense had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. An easy 5 star read that I will definitely recommend! Well done Christa
This book is no tender romance, it has some really tough issues that are talked about, and described. The way Christa Lynn writes them is perfect, she writes enough to understand and not too much that makes want to put your book down. There is a hard line I bet for writers to give us readers enough so we understand, but also not too much for us readers to feel uncomfortable. Sydney and Gabe get to know each other as they work together on a NYPD case, where 2 girls has been killed in same manner and looks are too similar to over look. This book, it will take you on a exciting, intriguing and such a wonderful ride!! Reprisal is all that and more, the author Christa Lynn did an amazing job writing this captivating story that will have you holding your breath, have a few WTF moments, and gripping your kindle a little tighter as you read.. But, Christa Lynn makes it completely worth the read, totally enjoyed it, and I just wished she gave us more information on Sydney's family relationship. Other than that issue, I loved it, I loved it!! Sydney is a character I see as a strong, smart, and does not back down. You can't help but admire her for all she has been through, and still is, but we also see a few different sides of Sydney, that is the creative writing in this book. WOW Then we have detective Gabe Torres, great character, tuff, caring, and absolutely perfect guy. Gabe stole my heart in this book. The chemistry in this book is off my scale HOTT!! If you like a edgy suspenseful erotic romance, than this is perfect. This is not a romance, but an AMAZING action packed erotic romance, and so much more.. I am such a fan of Christa Lynn, this is only the second book and I am hooked!! I recommend this to all that loves action, suspense, romance and Oh so much more!! Recommended to all 18 and older!!
Email: sizzlingpages@gmail.com I've finally made my way to this sexy suspense. I loved Gabe so freaking much. He was so amazing with his protectiveness and most of all his patience.
She needs to know that not all men are like her father and that there is good out there.
Sydney was a very stubborn character. I think that Gabe was just what she needed as anyone else wouldn't have been able to deal with her hot/cold moods. There were times I wanted to shake her and other times I wanted to say "use your inside voice" but then I'd think about her past and remember it's her way of protecting herself. The things this lady went through would give the toughest person nightmares. I was very happy that Gabe kept fighting for her and didn't give up.
There were some pretty hot scenes in this book and I am glad I finally made my way to it and will have to check out more from this author.
I was given this book to read in turn for an honest review!!
This book has a warning, and if you are not ok with reading something very dark and twisted at times then please don't read this. I could see how it could cause some people to be squeamish! But I found it to be something so different than what I have read that I really enjoyed it!
Dr. Sydney DeCarlo is psychologist and helps the local NYPD and FBI with cases. Gabe Torres is a detective for the NYPD and is one sexy man!! The two are brought together on a cases that hits way to close to home for Sydney. It brings back the demons of her past that she thought were dead and gone!
This book shows what Sydney went through in some detail and it is not for the faint of heart. It is twisted and will make you almost sick. The author brought this book together so well that you feel like it was a true story because unfortunately there are sick people in this world! But I did find myself not able to put the book down. I had to know what happened and I was on the edge of my seat the whole book!! I would recommend this to anyone. I loved it wasn't something that I would normally read and can't wait to read more from this amazing author!!
I needed something dark and different from my norm for variety sake and let me scream that this story is FRIGGIN BANANAS!!!
Sydney had one of the darkest childhoods I've read in fiction. 20 years later the events from her past come full circle to haunt her again. However, she is NOT alone this time. Sexy police detective/FBI agent Torres is determined to help Sydney. The two are in for an extremely hard time but together they prove anything is possible!
Reprisal is my first read by Christa Lynn and oh what an intro! She nailed all things important as far as I'm concerned!
Well.... this one did have serious potential-- when it comes down to it, Romantic Suspense is probably still one of my most favorite types of books even though I don't read them as much as I used to... throw in some good steam and it can't get much better. This one however, just didn't hit the mark. The idea of the story was a good one, but there were just too many holes in the story and some editing issues that distracted me a bit. I'd give the author another chance for sure.. this one just didn't work for me..
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
I thoroughly enjoyed this story - it is full of action, steamy hot and has a decent plot. The main characters are intelligent, thoughtful and desirable. The writing style is good, with believable speech and never too much unnecessary description. I will definitely look out for more books by this author.
This book is filled with suspense and will keep you on your toes. It kept me interested the whole time and I really hope there is a second book. Gabe has now been put on my list of book boyfriends. Sydney has been through hell and back and by a chance meet Gabe will try to help her overcome her fears.I am so happy that I read this book.
I am a sucker for dark reads so I was excited to start this one. Christa Lynn really delivered!!! Amazing, thrilling, hot, erotic, I could not put my kindle down.
Dr. Sydney De Carlo is a Psychologist and Forensic Scientist, in New York City. During the day she sees young patients who have suffered traumatic experiences and helps the NYPD & FBI solve crime cases. All this while dealing with a horrific and traumatic experienced she experienced as a child. She has flashbacks, nightmares and panic attacks and is always fearful that something bad is going to happen. One night at a bar, she sees this God, her face heats up and she has naughty thoughts going through her mind. He glances around the bar and when their eyes lock onto each other, Sydney is frozen on the spot.
Gabriel Torres is an NYPD Detective who also works as a bouncer at a bar in New York City. It is fight night at the bar and he knows he has to pay attention, because things can get crazy. While watching the crowd he notices Sydney and let’s just say his thoughts are flirty and dirty. Gabe found her mannerisms hypnotic, she has long dark hair and dark eyes that look like the hold a secret, his co*k jumped just thinking about having her underneath him. By the times the fight is taking care of she is gone. Gabe and his partner get a visit from an FBI agent regarding an alert for a missing young woman abducted on the 5th Avenue, three days ago. It appears that a month ago there was another missing woman that washed up on the East River.
Sydney and Gabe’s world are about to collide in a big way. His Chief decides they need the FBI and their forensic teams because of the similarities in the crimes. This case is a hard on for Sydney after she sees the folders. She is not sure if she can help this case, without it taking over her and taking her into the darkness. Working really closely with other to try and solve this case things start to get hot and heavy between them. Gabe is a total alpha male and dominant, the attraction and sexual chemistry they have is off the charts.
“Gabe”
“What Sydney?”
“Oh God!”
“That’s it baby, come for me, I need to be inside you. Open your eyes, Sydney. I want to see your face.”
Gabe is so sweet, caring and understands that Sydney’s past plays a role on the woman in front of him. He does not push her to hard but hard enough that she knows he is there for her and he sees who she really is. To Sydney she will always be damaged goods, a monster not worthy of any man or good thing in her life.
“I’m sorry Gabe. I’m a mess, you really don’t want to get involved with me, I’m, I’m damaged goods, something you do not need in tour life.”
“You are beautiful, smart and independent. I love those qualities. You have a past, yes – we all do, but you are far from damaged. I’m in awe of you, really. I’m here baby and I’m not going anywhere.”
This book is a dangerously thrilling and exciting to read. Gabe and Sydney try to solve this case but the more the get involved in the case the more danger Sydney life’s becomes. Sydney brushes little mishaps as just normal New York City things but for Gabe he knows better. Gabe being a detective takes her words and starts to notice the Scientist is becoming a target.
“That’s the third time in two days some asshole has bumped into me. Those rude f**kers need to watch where they’re going.”
“Did you say that’s the third time that’s happened?”
Things start to get creepy fast, I was a nervous wreck and I was not sure what was going on. Sydney has to face her past if she is to come out of this investigation mentally and physically intact. The suspect in the case, he is sick, OK sick is not even the right word. I had goose bumps when I read his thoughts and his actions.
“Yeah I’m a monster, Doctor. I kill women. I will get my revenge, once and for all. You will pay for what you did. You will pay, again and again. I will show you no mercy. And maybe, if you’re a good little girl, I’ll tell you who I am. But for now open your mouth.”
Gabe will move heaven and earth for the woman who has captured his heart. He will be tested, he will cross lines in his profession but he will not lose Sydney. Sydney will have to overcome her demons, she will be tested and tested again but this time can she survive? In order to find true peace, happiness and love she will have to tear down the walls she built and trust Gabe to protect her and help her take back what was lost years ago.
Reprisal was an astounding book, as I said in the beginning of my review I could not put it down. The end, the end shocked me to no ends. I was not sure what was going on, who was involved and when I finally thought I knew who it was, I was shocked to find out how wrong I was. You will be left speechless because you as a reader never saw it coming. The author, Christa Lynn delivers a book that will leave you with a lot of different emotions; the characters Gabe and Sydney are loveable, intense, and strong and will stop at nothing to solve the case and find their Happily Ever After.

I didn't exactly care for Running From Destiny and received a few comments and even another review calling me out for being "harsh" and "not constructive" in my commentary of the book. I am hoping that this will not be the case with this review. If anyone would like to discuss my opinion in a way that doesn't call my review "rhetorical poison" or anything like that, feel free to comment. But if you can belittle me for disliking the book, I can certainly do the same to you for enjoying it.
Moving forward.
I love to read. It's one of my favorite things. My favorite novel was written in 1850, so it's safe to say that I don't just take books at surface value. I appreciate literature as an art, not just a cluster of words and phrases thrown together. Just because you can tell a story does not mean that you can be an author. Just as a child that can finger paint does not mean they will grow up to be an artist. Not everyone can write a novel.
I understand that authors sometimes write in the "voice" of a specific character, which would lead to some grammar changes or missing letters or other ways to create a persona through thought and dialogue. However, if an author does not know that "into," "onto," and "teenage" are one word and not two… they shouldn't be writing a novel. If an author does not know that a proper elipses has three periods, not seven, and that adding extra question marks or exclamation marks does not make their character more confused or angry, they shouldn't be writing a novel. If an author does not know that quotations are closed with a comma instead of a period, and that each character gets their own paragraph when they speak, no matter how short their sentence is, they should not be writing a novel. This is not deliberate grammatical changes to create a character, this is ignorance of proper grammar and sentence structure. These grammar rules are taught in elementary school… there is no reason to ignore them or not know about them, especially if you want to pursue a career as a PROFESSIONAL WRITER.
Another responsibility authors have to their audience is to do their research before writing a novel. If you are going to write a book about criminal rape cases, where your main characters are a psychologist and a cop, please have an understanding of what it's like to be a psychologist and a cop. Please know how to correctly form a police report. Please know that a search party cannot be called unless the missing person has been gone for at least 24 hours, not 3, and that search parties are usually only called if the person got lost in a dense area, such as a mountain or forest. Please know that members of the same family do not share the same DNA. Please know that if a police officer does not verbally identify themselves as an officer and you assault one, you cannot be held accountable for that (especially when this police officer states that he is "off duty" the page before the attack). Please know that when consulting child rape victims, it is NOT best to "get in their space [to] make them feel comfortable enough to talk to you" (Lynn 1409).
I understand that some of this critique can be called nit picky, and that's fine. Grammatical errors don't bother some people, and that's fine too. But it bothers me. I understand that some people don't care about how true to life a novel is, but to me, to be fully engrossed in a novel, it needs to make sense.
And this book does not make sense.
Not unlike her previous books, the main character of Reprisal, Sydney DeCarlo, is a Mary Sue, or a character that is so likable and without flaw that it makes for a tedious read. Please tell me one flaw that this character has. You can't. She's beautiful, successful, intelligent, friendly, and apparently has astounding sex appeal. One could argue that her flaw is her fear of intimacy or her "baggage," but this doesn't seem to phase anyone around her, especially Gabe, because everyone still refers to her as strong and thick-headed and self sufficient. Gabe spends almost every page of his chapters admiring her for her looks, personality, strength, and how she just seems "different." This seriously slows down the pace of the novel, and I often found myself rolling my eyes and groaning at lines like, "And my dick jumps again, just knowing that she's self-sufficient and independent" (Lynn 1259). Come. On.
Unfortunately, even though Running From Destiny didn't delve deeply into the world of character development, the characters in Reprisal seemed even more one-dimensional and flat. Ally Sanders, thick-headed and arrogant as she may be, is a character that stays true to herself, as well as Jackson sticking to his character. In this novel, it seems as though Lynn had a course of events stuck in her mind, and decided to mold characters to fit in her plot instead of creating independent characters that respond realistically to the world around them. All these characters do is fall in love too quickly and have strange kinky sex. AND, after Sydney is kidnapped and abused by her half brother, she asks Gabe to make love to her to make her feel beautiful again! WHAT. Is this real life? Why would any woman who went through that want to have any kind of sex?
Anyways, I guess that pretty much sums up my feelings. Feel free to comment if you want to discuss!
this was another amazing book of yours i read! its about a woman with a secret that she doesnt want people to know and a cop that is trying to help her deal. they end up hitting it off but will her past destroy her. thanks for giving me a chance to read this book!
Sydney is a survivor of a traumatic event, although she suffers from nightmares and flashbacks, she refuses to let her past dictate who she has become, and that is not a victim. When the FBI & NYPD call her in to assist with a case, she meets Gabe, who is sexy, strong, and loyal. These two are attracted to each other immediately, and it does not take long for Gabe to realise that Sydney has a horrific past. I was hooked and intrigued from the very beginning, and this storyline kept me guessing all the way through. This is a dark read, with rape, violence, suspense, and plenty of action throughout.

4.5 stars!!!
Let me just start out by saying I'm normally not into murder/mystery books, but this book totally hooked me from the beginning. I might have to start reading more of these if they are anything like this one!!
I loved Gabe! Who wouldn't love a hot cop that is willing to do anything to protect you while opening up your heart? From the first time Gabe sees Sydney at a bar he feels a connection with her. While Gabe is busy splitting up a fight, Sydney walks out the bar without having a chance to talk to her. However, he shows up to work the next day and finds out they will be working together on a case.
Sydney is a psychologist and is asked to come in and assist with a case. However, this particular case hits close to home for Sydney. Sydney has a dark past that she survived and the more she learns about this case the more her past comes back to haunt her.
While working together Gabe starts to have feelings for Sydney, and all Sydney wants to do is keep her guard up. Sydney feels that she is nothing but damaged goods due to her past. Gabe wants nothing more then to break down those walls.....
"Shhh.... just go with it, Sydney. It's ok, I won't let you fall."
Sydney can't deny her feelings for Gabe and how safe he makes her feel so she starts to let her guard down. She lets Gabe into her life and boy does it turn steamy. There are some seriously sexy scenes in this book! They just make Gabe that much hotter!
This story was suspenseful and nerve wracking! The mystery of who the killer was and the thrill of not knowing what was coming next had me in knots! All mixed with a sexy love story. I really enjoyed this book. However, just as a little warning, if you have a sensitive stomach, you may have a hard time reading this. If your like me and you don't mind a little edge to your books, then I would definitely recommend this book! Happy reading!!

I was given this book to read for an honest review. Overall, I gave this book 3 stars. I am going to give a very brief summary and then go over what I loved and didn’t like about this book. The book follows Sydney, a forensic psychologist, who has a torturous past where she was horribly abused by her father. She counsels victims of rape/abuse and works with law enforcement to prosecute the abusers. The NYPD has a serial killer on the loose. She arrives at the police station and runs into Gage, the detective heading this case. She is immediately attracted to Gage, but tries to keep her distance and focus on the case. You soon learn that this case is very personal to Sydney. Her past is rearing its ugly head and coming back to haunt her. Will she catch this killer in time? And will she let down her walls to let Gage in? Pros – I loved these characters. Sydney is a strong, independent woman. She has risen above her past and has flourished. She has an inner strength that you can’t help but be amazed by. I love a strong female lead and this book definitely has that! Gage, he’s a NYPD detective and completely protective of Sydney. He sees through her walls and her tortured past. He loves her not in spite of her past, but because she has conquered or is conquering it. He’s the quintessential strong, protective lead, which I loved. Cons – The basis of the story was really good, but there were some holes in it from my perspective. I am trying to list my cons without giving spoilers so bear with me! First of all, there is some DNA matching that is very inaccurate. DNA results would have shown the type of relationship and if there was a different or same person. Family members don’t have the same DNA. Also, I know the author was trying to build suspense, but about half way through the book I knew who the killer was and what was going to happen. That being said I do think this is a good book and it did keep my interest. I would definitely read other books by this author.
What a story! So much going on and it keeps you guessing. Love the characters. Sydney is a strong independent woman that goes through way more than one person ever should. Gabe is the kind of man every girl wants and needs in her life. Great read
Ok as the Synopsis states this is a Dark Erotic Thriller it contains references to Rape, violence but the author has done this without over dramatizing the situations. As Romantic Suspense stories go, this book had me from the beginning.
Sydney DeCarlo is a survivor of a traumatic past, going through what no teenager should, but because she refuses to be a victim she pulls out all the stops and graduates early and runs a private practice counselling kids who have also survived the same nightmare.
When the FBI and NYPD call her in to assist on a case, her past comes roaring back.
Enter Detective Gabriel Torres. He's Hot and Sydney can't ignore the attraction she feels for him. The attraction is mutual and Gabe isn't about to let Sydney brush off his advances.
The case they are both working on is hard for Sydney, and Gabe soon realises the trauma she has gone through, but rather than run away he stands firm letting her know he is in for the long haul and to get used to him being in her life.
I liked how Ms Lynn has written his character, strong, loyal and with ethics. Sydney too is not a victim, but has nightmares and flashbacks which can cripple her at times. all in all Ms Lynn created Characters that I could believe in, the storyline keeps you guessing...I was sure it would be one character that was the bad guy... but I was wrong.
Well done Christa Lynn - I really enjoyed this story and will be checking out your other books.
It took me a few days after finishing this book to actually be able to write a review. The first thing I'll say is that is gripping and delicious. The type that's kind of like watching a train wreck. You know it'll mess your head up but you just CAN'T put it down. It is a dark erotica thriller, so if certain violent and bloody issues trigger you, be advised. Personally, I love dark erotica so this book was right up my alley. Sydney is the main character and one who was largely tortured and abused by her father in her teens. The stories in which she dreams/remembers these events are absolutely devastating and horrifying. I love that even though its hard, Sydney finds enough strength to make a living by helping to catch men that prey on girls like her. Gabe... He's a protective, intituitive cop who makes it his mission to protect the powerhouse that is Sydney. He is also super sweet , devilish , very alpha and HOT. Perfect!! Their relationship is struck by fierce attraction and a lot of stubborness on Sydney's end. I can't say too much about everything else without giving away important details, but I will say this. The development of the plot was sheer genius and pure brilliance. Christa Lynn had me doubting everyone in this book. It was gruesome, gory, sick and twisted AND has a happy, satisfying ending. I absolutely love it!!

Reprisal was my first ever read from Christa Lynn, and I'm wondering how I've never heard of this amazing author until now! This book was not only phenomenal and well written, but the wow-factor was present from start to finish. And while this book addresses some dark, real-life issues, Christa's beautiful writing never made me want to put the book down!
Reading about the life of Sydney DeCarlo was exciting and terrifying. A survivor of a traumatic childhood, Sydney now lives her life helping those children who's own lives mirror her own. But when her past comes back to haunt her from the grave, Detective Gabriel Torres can either help her overcome her terrors or lose her forever from them.
Within the scintillating novel lies one of the most romantic, erotic, and thrilling love stories that paves the way for Sydney and Gabe. One of the biggest turning points of the book, for me, was when she sends him a text simply stating 'I need you'. It was at that pivotal moment when she starts to trust and even begin to heal with Gabe before all hell breaks loose.
Filled with exhilarating action and gripping adventure, this dark thriller is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails, and begging for just a little bit more of Christa!
Once in a while you come across a book that takes you by surprise... Reprisal was one of those books. I loved it!!! A bit on the dark side, with a good dose of suspense thrown it, a hot alpha male, and a leading lady that was stronger than you can ever imagine = fantastic read!!!
Reprisal is the story of Sydney and Gabe. Sydney has a tortured past. The stuff that this poor woman endured is enough to make you cringe. And her will to rise above it made me want to jump up and cheer.
Gage was delicious. A man that knows what he wants, but has the presence of mind to be patient in his endeavors. Perfection.
From the moment I opened this book, I was caught in its trap. Reprisal spins a web around your mind as you are trying to figure out what is going on. There are hints of the tainted past that makes you scratch your head wondering what in the world id going on. And just when you think you have it figured out, the author takes a left turn and sends you in another direction. And as the pieces of the puzzle begin to come together, you get hit again with something that right out of left field.
This story was so well woven I never did quiet figure out what was going on. And right up to the last paragraph, you find a bit of a quick turn. I loved it, and in the end, I found I wanted more. I have a bit of a book hangover... please let there be a follow up book.
I gave this book five stars, with a caveat. The details have a couple of issues, but overall, I was hooked. It is a fun read for a suspense romance. I read books to escape, and this one did that for me. I liked the characters, the story line was interesting, and it held my attention. I don't think I moved until I finished reading the book. Dr. Sydney DeCarlo is a forensic psychologist who works on abuse/rape cases. She has survived a very traumatic childhood, and she has become quite successful. When a case comes up that hits too close to home, she has to relive that past and fight to stay alive. Gabriel Torres works for the NYPD and is sexy as all get out. When he sees a lady at the bar, he is quickly intrigued. When she ends up working on the same case as him, and the similarities of the victims to the good doctor are uncovered, he is determined to protect her. But her stubborn streak isn't going to make that an easy task. Other than a few research issues with the story, this is a good read. I like sexy characters put in dangerous situations. This book hit that for me. I am looking forward to reading about Dr. DeCarlo's friend, Leslie next. And probably any more books written by this author. If you are looking for a bit of escapism, check this one out.
This story drew me in from the first page to the last. The action and angst that happened kept me turning the pages until the very end.
Sydney DeCarlo is a forensic psychologist. She counsels rape/abuse cases. She also works with the local law enforcement on cases. She does this because of her traumatic past. Sydney was such a strong character, a survivor. When her past comes back to haunt her, the nightmare starts all over again. She never gives up. Along the way even though she thinks she is to damaged for love she learns to let Gabe in.
Gabe is drawn to Sydney. He vows to do what he can to heal and protect her. I loved that he never pushed Sydney. When she was having a tough time he stood by her.
This is a intriguing story that will pull you in as danger lurks around every corner. Follow Sydney and Gabe as tragedy strikes. Can they live through this trauma and learn to love each other? If you like a steamy romance with a hefty dose of angst and suspense then I highly recommend this read.

This book blew me away! I liked the writing style, it had great characters, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The subject matter is dark, but mostly in reference to Sydney's past. And what a dark past it was! Sydney is a PsyD, who's been asked to help the NYPD on a homicide (Law & Order, anyone?!) and Gabe Torres is the lead detective (who just happens to be delectable). This case brings her past to light, and seemingly is connected to the horrors she had to endure. Can she over-come her past and help Gabe capture the murderer, or will the past come back to haunt her??
This book was full of suspense, it had some VERY hot erotic scenes, and the romance was sweet. I'd recommend this book to ANYONE that likes Law & Order: SVU, contemporary romance, or is looking for a thrilling new read!
Sydney wants to keep the past firmly behind her. It's dark and unpleasant and it's something she would rather forget ever happened. As a child psychiatrist she tries to help others in similar difficult situations overcome them. When the police come to her asking for assistance in a case the last thing she was expecting very HOT cop to catch her interest especially since she hasn't wanted anyone in a long time. As the case intensifies and they sort through the clues they realize it hits closer to home than she ever wanted.
Sydney has a hard exterior but what she needs is someone there to keep her together. She helps everyone without concern for herself. Gabe is sweet and caring and a complete and total alpha male ready to tell you what to do at a moment's notice and expect you to do what he says. He knows when to push and when to keep his mouth shut. Together the two are explosive balancing each other out.
There are many twists and turns along the way in you never know until the very end whats going to happen, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
