Peace. The very word evokes images of serene landscapes and quiet stillness. In today’s chaotic world, peace is a valuable commodity. The Bible has a lot to say about peace, claiming that God himself is the ultimate source. In this follow-up to Names of Living Unafraid, Grace Fox reflects on how the following names of God point to the peace our souls so desperately Yahweh Shalom—The Lord Is PeaceAbba—FatherEl Shaddai—God AlmightyEl Roi—The God Who Sees MeYahweh Ori—The Lord Is My LightYahweh Nissi—The Lord Is My BannerImmanuel—God with UsKnowing Peace uses examples from Scripture and compelling real-life stories to illustrate how these names can bring inner peace amid life’s storms. Each session includes a guided prayer, reflection questions, and a video link providing additional insights from Grace. Perfect for individual or group study, this new addition to the Names of God series will encourage and inspire readers to draw near to God and receive his peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7).

In the Names of God: Knowing Peace, Grace Fox walks you through seven names of God. Each name gave me a better understanding of the character of God. Yahweh Ori: The Lord Is My Light stood out the most. It reminds me that God is present, still in control, and nothing I am going through is a surprise to Him. I just need to sit still and trust God. Grace’s words are so encouraging and down to earth, always directing us to seek strength through the various names of God and rely on Him to get us through whatever we are going through right now. The questions and short video at the end of each chapter allowed for a deeper understanding of what I just read. If you are searching for peace, you may find it in one of the names of God Grace touches on.
I had the privilege to read this book ahead of the launch date as I received a review copy from the publisher in advance. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it. It can be used as an individual study, with a friend, or in a small group.
In Names of God: Knowing Peace, Grace Fox looks at different biblical names for God and examines how they illustrate the peace only He can offer us. There are seven chapters, one for each name of God she looks at. The first is Yahweh Shalom, and that fit right in with our Wednesday night study at our church, so it made for excellent reading! And there’s a lot to ponder packed in this little book.
Fox opens each chapter with a personal story that feels like sitting down with a friend and chatting over coffee. She then digs into the meaning of the name that is the focus of that chapter, using Scripture to illustrate how both the name and its meaning are used. The verses she selected are ones that may be familiar to many Christians, and were familiar to me. But it helps me to connect a particular characteristic of God to my own circumstances when I have specific verses in front of me that remind me of that characteristic.
Fox then provides an example of a biblical figure who experienced the name of God on which each chapter focuses. For example, she uses Gideon to illustrate Yahweh Shalom, showing how he grew from a man cowering in fear, hiding from his enemies in a winepress, to a mighty warrior for God because he experienced God as peace.
Each chapter continues with ways we can apply the name of God to our lives, a modern example of someone’s experience with that characteristic of God, how Jesus also embodies that name of God, and ways we can respond to our newly gained knowledge. She closes each chapter with a prayer and Points to Ponder, questions that make for a good study of each name (in-depth enough, but not so deep that you’ve got to be a hardcore Bible scholar to benefit from them!).
Names of God: Knowing Peace offers insights that are substantive enough for the seasoned Christian, but that can also be good starting points and encouragement for newer believers. This is a book I can see myself coming back to when I need reminders of just how marvelous our God is and how many different ways He offers us His peace.

Book Review: Names of God: Knowing Peace by Grace Fox ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you’re longing to experience a deeper sense of peace in your life and grow closer to God, Names of God: Knowing Peace by Grace Fox is a must-read. This book has been such a gift to me—offering not only biblical insight but also encouragement that speaks directly to the heart. One of the things I love most about Grace's writing is how personal and relatable it is. She weaves in stories from her own life and the lives of others, making each chapter feel like a heartfelt conversation with a friend. The real-life examples she shares aren’t just inspirational—they’re relevant. I often found myself thinking, “That’s exactly what I needed to hear.” Each chapter is thoughtfully structured, ending with powerful reflection questions, Scripture verses to look up, and even a video you can watch to go deeper. These “Points to Ponder” have helped me pause, reflect, and truly engage with what I’m learning. In the first chapter, Grace introduces the name Yahweh Shalom – The Lord is Peace. This name, and the way she unpacks it, has helped me recognize the incredible gift of God's peace in my life. It’s not the kind of peace the world gives—it's the peace that doesn’t always make sense, the kind that steadies your heart even when life feels chaotic. As Jesus says in John 14:27 (NLT): “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Grace Fox’s book reminds me that this peace is always available through truly knowing who God is. If you’re looking for a devotional that not only teaches but transforms, that helps you know God more intimately and find real peace in your everyday life, I wholeheartedly recommend Names of God: Knowing Peace. It’s more than a book—it’s an invitation to rest in the character of God.
Grace Fox's beautiful devotional study "Names of God: Knowing Peace" was something I needed desperately--without knowing I needed it, until I started it! We're all surrounded, both inside and out, with events, persons, or even our own emotions or challenges that threaten to steal our peace. How comforting, and strengthening, to be reminded that true and lasting peace is offered to us by God. And this book doesn't just contain that reminder, but a walk through Scriptures which shows us, verse by verse, how God provides that peace.
Fox uses seven ways God identifies Himself to humans (including present-day readers), and what we can learn about him through those ways or names. These include Yahweh Shalom (The Lord is Peace), Abba (Father), El Shaddai (God Almighty), El Roi (The God Who Sees Me), Yahweh Ori (The Lord is My Light), Yahweh Nissi (The Lord is My Banner), and Immanuel (God With Us). The author shares stories, cross-referenced Scriptures, key word meanings, and personal study questions for the reader to help him or her understand God better. Then, there's a QR code at the end of each chapter which takes the reader to a short teaching video from Grace Fox.
This study has given me something I truly long for--peace from God--and beautiful reading and study times. I love Grace's voice and teaching style. This is a 5-star study, perfect (for me) for summer study. I highly recommend "Names of God: Knowing Peace" to you!
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions and thoughts shared here are my own honest ones.
Devotional are a part of my daily life. I really enjoy that each Devotional focuses on a particular part of Christian Living. Names of God: Knowing Peace by Grace Fox is the latest Devotional that I have read. It is Book 2 in the Names of God Devotional Studies Series.
I was encouraged and blessed while reading this devoational. We all need Peace in our lives, as life seems to be chaotic. I really LOVE that the author goes through the Names of God that also refer to Peace. The personal stories and analogies throughout the book are really heartwarming. The format of the Devotional Book makes it easy to read. Each section has a Reflection, Prayer and a Video Link. The Reflection section is the encouraging and thought provoking for me. The Devotional would be GREAT for Individual or Group Study. It would also make a great gift for anyone going through the Storms of Life and could be encouraged and have Peace by studying and using the Devotional. I really enjoyed the writing style of Grace Fox and I am looking forward to reading more from this series. GREAT BOOK!
I’m going through a roller coaster of a time right now. My husband got a new job in a new city. We’re trying sell our house and move and while I know God has us, there’s always that chaos that brews in the soul. Names of God Devotional by Grace Fox couldn’t have come at a better time.
There is a perfect blend of Biblical Examples and personal testimony that I looked forward to reading more. Each session provide a guided prayer (which are so helpful when your soul is weary), reflection questions and a video link. I found my faith boosted going through this devotion.

If you're walking through a difficult season and longing to experience more of God's peace, Names of God: Knowing Peace by Grace Fox is a beautiful companion for your journey. Each day's devotional felt like I was sitting down with a trusted friend. Grace’s warm and engaging writing, along with her insightful teaching, gently drew me closer to Jesus. I found myself encouraged, strengthened, and reminded that I can face each day with peace in my heart, knowing God is with me. I'm planning to recommend it for our women's ministry Bible study, as I think it would also be perfect in a group dynamic. This is a truly wonderful book. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
One of the things God has blessed me with regularly since my first cancer diagnosis is his peace that passes all understanding. But there are days I have a hard time holding onto that peace. I started reading this book on one of those days, and it was a great reminder of who God is and that his peace is always available when I lay down my fears at the cross. Grace is a gifted teacher and storyteller, and I love the scripture and study questions at the end of each chapter. Writing out my answers really helped me think concretely about what I learned or was reminded of.
I'm in the middle of the first chapter and am finding it REALLY good. Great analogies as well as stories. AND completely true to scripture. I'm already being challenged. Can't wait til tomorrow morning to continue! Highly recommend Grace's books.
I have been reading Names of God: Knowing Peace by Grace Fox I have been learning so much that I was never before been taught in any church setting before And I have felt a peaceful feeling wash over me as I have been reading the book.
The Names of God: Knowing Peace devotional study written by Grace Fox is an opportunity to stop the busyness and pause to really think about how to allow true peace to permeate through each situation we find ourselves in. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to read some of her books.
So good. Grace Fox brings Scripture alive like few others. Deep insights into God’s character as revealed in His names, and the illustrations are spot on. Highly recommended.
This book is a winner. The author, Grace Fox opens her life in heartwarming stories of her childhood including experiences that molded her faith. When a book speaks to your inner being, as this does, you know it’s been influenced by the Holy Spirit. Grace has a much needed message in this season of life. It’s so easy to lose your peace over world current events. This devotional reminds us who our God is by revealing His character. This book has already produced faith in me. I appreciate the author’s studying the material for it. It will speak into many hearts. Reading slowly bc I don’t want it to end.
I'm currently reading Names of God: Know Peace: Devotional Study. I'm very excited to grow in my journy with God and this book is a valuable tool in my journey. Who doesn't need more peace in their lives?
For as long as I can remember, I have been a fearful person and struggle with almost debilitating anxiety daily, and I know that I am not alone in this. We live in a world that is steeped in chaos and darkness, and the light continues to dim with each passing day, but for those of us that believe there is hope.
Knowing the names of God has always been a source of comfort for me. There have been so many times that I’ve cried out to Immanuel to remind myself that I am not alone and that God is always with me, or Abba when my soul longs for my Heavenly Father. To know God’s names is to know who He is and is so important for our personal walk and relationship with Him.
This is not the type of devotional that you quickly read through but is clearly meant to be read during times of deeper study and reflection. It’s clear that there was a lot of time and attention taken to write this book, not only with the multiple Biblical and scholarly quotes but the heart of the author that is clearly present on every page. How the author put her own personal touch to this tome was exactly what I needed personally as it gives a refreshingly unique perspective and tethered me to a sister in Christ that I’ve never even met, helping me feel less alone.
I cannot tell you just how much this devotional study has spoken to my heart, and I truly believe it is not an accident that it’s coming during a time when people are searching for peace. I don’t know about you, but I need peace now more than ever, and knowing the depth of the names of God is to know true peace.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
