Akimi Yoshida (Japanese: 吉田秋生, Yoshida Akimi) is a Japanese cartoonist from Tokyo, best known for her manga series Banana Fish.
Yoshida studied at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo and made her professional debut in 1977. Despite serialising her works in shōjo manga (girls' comics) magazines, most notably in 'Bessatsu Shōjo Comic' and 'Monthly Flowers', during the 80's she developed a visual style akin to the aesthetics of shōnen manga (boy's comics) of that era, contributing significantly to creating a bridge between these two traditions. This is particularly evident in her international best-seller Banana Fish (1985-1994), a thriller set in New York City blending action and homoerotic romance. Among her other major works are the series Yasha (1996-2002) and Umimachi Diary (2006-2018).
Yoshida's comics have received a number of accolades in Japan, including three Shogakukan Manga Awards (1983 and 2001 in the category 'shojo', 2015 in the general category), an Excellence Award for manga at the Japan Media Arts Festival (2007) and the 6th Manga Taishō award (2013).

ANGEL EYES
This is a prologue to Banana Fish, back to where Shorter met Ash (15 at the time) in Juvie.
It’s so painful seeing a young and damaged Ash. The fact that Shorter was there for Ash during this time made me love him and miss Him so much more. I have a better appreciation for him now, even though I’ve always loved him.
Despite delving into the relationship between these two, The short focuses a lot on prison rape culture. As upsetting as it is, it gives us more insight into one of the core struggles that Ash has to deal with. The series has never been one to shy away from rape culture, and i respect that. It’s frustrating and sad and I wish I could protect Ash myself, but I understand.
Overall, I really liked this short it added some good insight to my beloved characters. RIP angels

So beautifully sad. My heart goes to Eiji and Sing (he is all grown up!), the heartache is strooooong.
I really liked the story of how Ash and Shorter met each other. It broke my heart again when Shorter saw him as an angel because I remembered that when he was under the effects of Banana Fish, he saw a cherub over the archway and came back to his senses for a little while 💔
I loved this snippets of extra stories but honestly I wanted to know moreeee! *Yes, this is me not wanting to let go of the characters* 😂
