Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians protect humanity from unspeakable horrors--but their hearts are as fragile as any mortal's. . .

For centuries, Lisette d'Alençon has been a warrior against the dark. She fights alongside her brothers and comrades. But when the dreams start coming, she can't bear to confess them to the Immortal Guardians' command. Dreams of a dark-haired man with soft eyes and brutal wounds, a man her heart aches for--and a man she knows has been declared a traitor.

Zach is an exile, a loner. He won't defend himself against false accusations or grovel to those who should have faith in him. But he'll damn sure defend the woman who kept him sane against a plague of super-vamps that seems to have appeared from nowhere. The Guardians will blame him, and that will make Lisette suspect, too. With life, death and eternity on the line, who can they really trust?

*Spoilers*

This Book was Awesome!!!!!!! It was Sexy, and Exciting, and funny as hell. I laughed so hard.

"Ah Hell. You mean this wasn't a butt call?" " Booty call, Ethan I believe the term is booty call. Honestly, I'm a hundred and thirty years older than you and from France. How can I be more familiar with American slang than you are? You were born here"

"And you are supposed to be serving as guard. Seven Vampires live across the hallway. What are you going to do if a couple of them have psychotic breaks and try to escape while you two are having a quickie?" " Chase them down bare-ass naked and give the human guards an eyeful." " I don't know about you ," one of the new vamps said in his room, "but I'm pretty sure even total mind-fuck madness wouldn't make me risk that guy chasing me down and tackling me while he's naked and has a hard -on."

"I did not need to see that," Richart said. "I mean I really did not need to see that . Jenna honey, grab one of my daggers and poke out both my eyes."

"Richart! Why didn't you tell me they could hear us?" " I wasn't thinking about them when we made love. How could I? I was so caught up on you and your delectable body that it didn't even occur to me that they might hear us." "I am never going to be able to look your siblings in the eyes again without blushing." He took Jenna's wrists and tried to pull her hands away from her face. "Oh, come on, sweetheart. It's not that bad," He cajoled. "We just caught Lisette down on her knees with Zach's cock in her mouth, and she isn't blushing."

I loved Zach and Lisette as a couple they where so hott together and really sweet. Zach is a smoking hott, bad ass, protective sexy hero. Lisette is sexy and tough, kicking ass, but still all woman. The sex in this book was wow. The first time in the shower Hott!!!!

I truly love this series and all the characters they feel so real and you just get pulled into their world and their stories. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

"Give Melanie my love." He winked. "I'll be too busy giving her mine."

“For a moment I just felt this peculiar… I don’t know... non-murderous connection to you or something.” “It’s called kinship, asshole.”

"I think I would lay waste to the world if I lost you."

“I would never betray you,” she responded automatically, then bit her lip. He raised one eyebrow. “Okay, other than boinking your enemy, I would never betray you,” she qualified.

Seth shook his head. " Why would you do this for me after I let the others torture you?" " I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing it for Lisette," Zach told him. " I nearly lost her, Seth. Those bastards nearly killed her. I'll befriend whomever I fucking have to, to discover who set those dogs on her. I'll do whatever I have to do to ensure they never come near her again. And" He grimaced "if spending the rest of eternity with her means I have to play nice with you and your precious immortals, then I'll damned well play nice."

I can't wait for the next book and I hope we get to see Seth find love!!! 5 Stars great book!!!

I had a few years where I binged paranormal/urban fantasy, with Kate and Curran being my favorites (Kate Daniels Series) to the point where I needed a serious break. It felt like everyone was jumping on the PNR/UF bandwagon, and I overdosed on poorly written stories with formulaic writing.

That was a long winded way to say that I am happy I didn’t start this series years ago!

Zach and Lisette. My favorite couple from the series so far. Lisette is a fierce warrior, she has had a very difficult past, but has always had the love and support of her twin brothers. They really need to stop eavesdropping on each other’s thoughts. I had to laugh when someone asked how she kept her brothers out of her mind, she responded that she just pictured Zach naked when she felt them probing for info. Lol, typical siblings.

Zach. There isn’t much I can say about that without giving it away, but he is thousands of years old, and has wings. He is also one of the best heroes I’ve read in a very long time.

One of these days, I will understand the mysteries behind the Immortal Guardians…

For audiobook listeners, Kirsten Potter’s voice acting is phenomenal. She has so much range with her voice!

Big 5 stars - Paranormal Romance

This book! *Sigh*

I’ve been burned out on paranormal romances for a while, but this series has been a very pleasant surprise. I’ve especially enjoyed listening to Kirsten Potter’s fabulous audiobook narration because she gives all the characters distinctive voices and does a great job with the various accents. I’ve liked all the books in the series, but so far, this is my absolute favorite. I loved it!

I loved Zach and Lisette! Lisette is a strong, kickass heroine with inner vulnerability and a soft, compassionate heart, and Zach is an extremely tortured, isolated, gruff, powerful, enigmatic, badass virgin hero drawn to her warmth and acceptance. Their romance is touching, tender, fierce, sexy, passionate, and totally swoonworthy! This was me every time they are together!

description

And their first love scene in the shower? Holy Yowza!

description

description

Zach checked all my hot, yummy, favorite hero boxes!

description

“Everything he had endured up to this point. The millennia spent locked in a stark and lonely existence. The confusion that had gripped him when he had lost faith in the path he had chosen. The torture to which he had been subjected when he turned his back on the Others. It had all been worth it for this moment. Thousands of years of control began to slip away as Zach curled an arm around Lisette and drew her against him.”

“I don’t want to be left with nothing but a pile of your clothing, Lisette,” he murmured. “I don’t think I could handle it.” He fisted a hand in the back of her shirt. “I think I would lay waste to the world if I lost you.”

“It won’t even matter if they can’t come to accept me as one of them. All I need to be happy is you. All the family I need is you.”

description

I definitely recommend reading this series in order for better understanding and overall enjoyment.

Night Unbound is a magical journey into the world of the Immortal Guardians...but this time our Immortal Guardian, Lisette, finds herself drawn to a totally new ethereal creature who is extremely deadly.

Night Unbound provides a hot and steamy building romance between a much loved Guardian and sister, Lisette, and an unknown outcast/enemy of the Guardians, Zach. Mistrust is seeded and grows rapidly, threatening the core of the Guardian's family.

Duvall brings past character interaction to a whole new level, making them integral participants in each story...not just told and then snippet mentioned.

Duvall has been slowly unraveling the mysteries behind the Immortal Guardians. In Night Unbound, we are given a huge hunk of the puzzle but those missing pieces still keep us from putting it all together. Definitely tantalizing you with the what ifs and possibilities to come...

When I read Duvall's first work, I knew this was going to be a brilliant series. Duvall's storytelling is simply spellbinding, sucking you in and keeping you invested. I highly recommend any paranormal romance reader to check out the Immortal Guardian series, you won't be disappointed.

I received an ARC copy of Night Unbound from Kensington Books - Zebra in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication September 2, 2014.

Not sure how to rate this since I have not read the previous books in the series, so I'm giving it a 3.5.

I would say this can be a stand alone since the author did a pretty good job catching me up on what I missed in the other books, but I still feel like I didn't have a connection to the secondary characters. This I believe stems from not reading the others. So I suppose it's safe to say that it is best to read them in order, but not necessary.

The story over all was good and I enjoyed the romance. The hero was perfect in every way and the heroine was strong and had a good sense of humor. I liked them both. I also liked Seth, who was the only secondary character I felt a connection to.

I did feel a bit bombarded with so much information about who had what powers and who was mortal or immortal, and I felt it took too much away from the drama.

Overall it was enjoyable but I don't plan on continuing the series at this time. Maybe I'll come back to it later on.

This is my favorite of the series so far!. Zach is an amazing hero! He is so sweet, charming and swoon worthy with Lisette! But he is also a total badass! I loved him! Lisette is a great heroine. She is tough when she needs to be and super sweet to Zach. I also loved how she cared for Seth in this one. I always enjoy seeing all of the other couples and the mystery/suspense storyline is always well written!

Oh my Zach!!!! Ok he was so very awesome. All the stars in the world for him! Lisette...I did not love her. Never have. But she also seemed to fade out in this story. She just could not hold a candle to Zach and the other characters. The book also dragged a bit. But I could not bring the score down more than 1 star because of Zach. The crap with Ethan was annoying and made me a tiny bit uncomfortable for Zach, but it was so brief for him that I did not dwell.

The overall story line made large strides forward so it is important for those reading the series.

This is the fifth book in the Immortal Guardians series, and whoa, what a ride! I was beyond excited when I learned it was going to be the story of Lisette and Zach, and I am happy to say that this book was everything I wanted it to be.

Lisette is a badass Immortal Guardian. Like others of her kind, she has been infected with the virus that causes vampirism but her advanced DNA instead mutated her into an immortal badass – able to protect the human population from crazy, sadistic, every day vampires. Along with her two brothers, she is part of an elite group of warriors living in North Carolina who hunt nightly, and spend the rest of their time hanging out, teasing, bantering, and fighting evil bad guys – and, of course, falling in love.

Zach is an enigma. Looking like sex-on-a-stick, he is immortal, has wings, and is uber powerful, but that’s pretty much all that anybody knows about him. Having spent most of his time in the series so far “pulling gargoyle duty” on David’s rooftop and chatting to Ami, he had a brief but violent encounter with Lisette in the last book which sparked a strong attraction between them.

When Immortal Guardian leader, Seth wrongly accuses Zach of betraying him, he ends up being tortured for months on end by the mysterious ‘Others’. The only reprieve he gets from his misery is when he dreams of Lisette. With both of them being telepathic, they are able to share dreams, so Lisette also dreams of her mystery man and the two of them get an opportunity to explore each other a bit. But knowing that Zach is on Seth’s shit-list, although not knowing why, Lisette realises that she needs to keep him a secret from her family and friends.

When Zach literally appears in Lisette’s backyard beaten and bloody, she takes him in, cares for him, and from that moment on the connection between them becomes pretty much unbreakable as they find that they are unable to ignore the chemistry between them, and the dive headfirst into a passionate, yet secretive, love affair.

I love these characters! Both badasses in their own way, but also both charmingly vulnerable. Zach, especially, being thousands of years old but having never found love, is adorably innocent in exploring things with Lisette and it’s absolutely beautiful to watch. He is gentle and tender with Lisette (except for the odd bedroom romp), while also being dangerously and violently protective – it’s a great mix.

As always, the awesome thing about the love stories in this series is that the characters are open and honest with each other. There is no game playing, no stupid behaviour. They want each other, they admit it, they act on it, and they share their growing feelings. It’s refreshingly enjoyable, and so great to know that when I pick up one of these books I’m going to get an angst-free relationship!

“Why would you risk everything to be with me?”
… “I haven’t felt like this in a very long time … haven’t been this drawn to a man since I was mortal. Perhaps not even then … I can’t just give that up without seeing where it can lead me. It’s too rare. Too precious.”

That, and a whole lot of sex. Lisette and Zach are crazy hot for each other, and there’s all sorts of sexy shenanigans going on. Hotness!

But it’s not all romance. A new, stronger breed of vampire is emerging - ones with super strength, and weapons able to take down an Immortal Guardian. With no clue who is behind this latest threat (and with Zach’s general shadiness and Lisette’s sudden secrecy), there is lots of investigating, accusations, devastating betrayals and big twists all leading up to the massively kickass, action-filled ending.

With everybody in danger, there is also lots of time spent with the rest of the Immortal Guardian crew, with everybody having a part to play. There is some huge story progression for Ami and Marcus, as well as the ever-hilarious Sheldon. And best of all, as Zach is a “distant cousin” to Seth, there is a lot of interaction with him, and even though he also remains a mystery, I loved getting to see more of him. His wisdom and his love for his Immortal Guardians is beautifully portrayed, and his strength is deeply tested in this book. My heart broke for him. But I loved the dynamic between him and Zach. I’m looking forward to seeing that develop more in future books.

Once again, Dianne Duvall has given us a fast-paced, action-packed, funny, touching and romantic story, set against a fantastically developed paranormal world. As the bad guys get creepier and more powerful, and the character dynamics strengthen, there is much to look forward to for the rest of the series. I have no idea whose story is coming up next, but I know I’ll be grabbing for it as soon as it’s available.

I loved it – 4 stars.

NIGHT UNBOUND is the first installment in Dianne Duvall’s IMMORTAL GUARDIANS series that revolved around a female character, and although Lisette & Zach’s tale was undoubtedly passionate, it didn’t quite measure up to its male counterparts. Some major questions get answered with regards to the main story arc, and there’s no shortage of action or romance, but I failed to connect with the protagonists which caused the love scenes to lack chemistry. After four amazing books, I have no problem with giving the author a mulligan because we’re all allowed one, that’s the rule!

Throughout this series, Duvall has been torturing readers with the origins of the IMMORTAL GUARDIANS, and finally some of my suspicions were confirmed. No big surprises on that front, but it was nice to have my hunches validated, especially the ones about Seth. Speaking of which, I did feel like this story was more about him than Lisette, albeit without the romantic aspects. I am getting a little tired of the supersoldiers plot line; the memory wipe / restore trick is getting old even though it does make sense for the author’s eventual end game. I enjoyed meeting the new characters, Ethan and Aidan, and Cliff is quickly becoming one of my favourite underdogs. I also LOVED the shout out to Québec!

I was looking forward to learning more about Lisette d’Alençon, one of the only female IMMORTAL GUARDIANS, because she’s been a bit of a wallflower up until this point. Unfortunately, her role in this story seemed almost trivial at times, and her character wasn’t developed nearly as much as I would have liked. In fact, she came off as ditzy instead of ferocious which was disappointing because it made her pale in comparison to her male team mates. Zach’s another one who’s been lurking in the shadows, and the author was somewhat limited as to what she could unveil without giving too much away about the Others, so I didn’t mind his murkiness as much.

Things heated up quickly between Lisette & Zach which made NIGHT UNBOUND the hottest installment yet! The latter’s telekinetic abilities sure came in handy—no more searching for the elusive g-spot with that card in your deck! However, I did feel like the numerous sex scenes were trying to compensate for this book’s lack of relationship growth, and the result was steam without chemistry. I found myself not really caring whether Lisette & Zach got their HEA because their romance was somewhat eclipsed by this series’ plot arc, and I just wasn’t invested in their love story like I was with previous novels.

If you like a lot of motion in your ocean, then NIGHT UNBOUND is sure to satisfy.

I really enjoyed this new addition to the series and loved seeing Lisette and Zach get together. The series is great and I've been anxiously waiting to see how things continue in the overall series storyline and I wasn't disappointed.

Lisette has been an Immortal for around 200 years. In this world, vampires are nuts and kill mortals pretty much indiscriminately. Immortals are a breed that’s slightly different from vampires in that they don't go nuts and they hunt the vampires in an effort to protect humanity. Lisette was transformed by her (unknown to her at the time) Vampire husband into an Immortal. In an effort to protect her and keep her transformation a secret, Lisette’s brothers let her feed from them as needed which turned them into Immortals as well. Lisette has felt a massive amount of guilt for this ever since.

Zach is a “cousin” to Seth, who is the leader of the Immortals. Seth and Zach are actually something slightly different from the Immortals (something unexplained so far in the series) and haven’t always agreed on the subject of interacting with the human population. These disagreements have led to a certain amount of animosity between them. Lately however, Zach has been curious about Seth and his Immortals and while he was watching them he discovered an attraction to Lisette. He knows he should stay away from her because of Seth’s animosity towards Zach but that’s easier said than done.

In the previous book, Seth accused Zach of taking actions that put Seth and his Immortals in danger as well as almost exposed them to mortals. Seth put Zach into a bad position, one which led him into a period of time where he was imprisoned and tortured by others of their kind (who want to keep Zack in line). Because of Seth’s actions, Zach figures Seth deserves to have the traitor in his midst do whatever needed to make Seth sorry. Zach manages to escape his imprisonment, ending up with Lisette and seriously injured. Lisette needs help and Bastian ends up being able to help her patch Zach up. Lisette does warn Bastian that helping Zach could get him in trouble with Seth but Bastian being Bastian; he doesn't really care and likes making trouble so he helps Zach anyways. Lisette manages to keep her second (seconds are humans that help the Immortal they're assigned to with whatever they need) out of the house and tends to Zach while he heals. This doesn't take very long and once Zach heals the attraction between them spikes. Zach hasn't ever been attracted or involved with a woman before so he has no clue how to proceed and keeps thinking that Lisette won't welcome his advances. Lisette is very open to any advances that Zach would make and thankfully she’s very vocally open about her attraction which gives Zach the encouragement he needs.

They keep their growing relationship a secret but start spending a lot of time together and Lisette being absent from the Immortals a lot of the time attracts the attention of some of the other Immortals and brings some questions. While all this is going on, the Immortals find a new issue to deal with as they realize that there’s a more dangerous enemy out there that’s making better trained vampires that seem to be intent on capturing an Immortal. There are some definite issues to deal with as all the Immortals encounter these new vamps and have trouble killing them as easily as normal vamps which brings danger to the Immortals. When Lisette comes home seriously injured, Zach decides that she’s in too much danger and starts hunting with her. Zach’s strong but the new vamps manage to drug Lisette and in an effort to save her, Zach takes her to Bastian and Melanie (who’s a doctor) for help. Since they're at David’s house and Seth and many other Immortals are there, Seth is soon confronted with Zach in full-force protective alpha mode and desperate to get whatever help Lisette needs. There’s some conflict but it soon becomes clear that Zach wasn't responsible for the past betrayal and that he cares deeply for Lisette and would do anything for her. This brings Zach reluctant acceptance but there’s still some major issues to deal with as they have to figure out who’s behind the newest threat. I really liked seeing how Lisette affected Zach. He was rather distant and cold and Lisette was able to reach him and pull him into life. I loved seeing their love grow and seeing Zach start to become part of the Immortals. It wasn't easy going (although in some ways it was easier than expected) but I was so happy to see it happen. The action plot is rather complex and there are a number of unexpected twists as they try to track down the people responsible. Things are resolved to an extent but there is still some possibilities that may come in to play in future books. Overall things are pretty well resolved though and things end with Lisette and Zach starting their HEA together.

I greatly enjoyed this story. I loved Lisette and Zach was pretty great too. They complemented each other very well and I was very happy to see them get together. The action plot was engaging and had me on the edge of my seat wondering who was behind all the issues and watching as the twists and turns unraveled while I read. I love this series and I was very happy with this addition to it and can't wait for the next book. I'd recommend this story and series. 2 thumbs up! :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a great job (as normal). I really like her accents.

8/28/15 - This is a reread of the series before reading the newly released #s 5.5 & 6. I love this series and this book was really great. I loved Lisette and Zach together and the story was so very good. I really was happy to learn more about Seth in this addition and get some more hints about the origins of the Immortal guardians. I have to admit that even on the reread, some of the emotional parts had a few tears escaping and I think that's a sign of just how good the story is. :D

A paranormal must have of epic proportions. I’ve been smitten with Dianne’s characters and her Immortal Guardian world since the first book in the series, but this story took everything I like about it and super-sized it.

Night Unbound took my heart through the emotional paces. From hilarity
“You mean this wasn’t a butt call?”

“Do you have something against shirts?” His eyes dropped to Zach’s bare chest.

To blazing sensuality that turned my blood to molten lava
“I like the buttons.” He slipped the first through its corresponding buttonhole, parted the material, then moved on to the next. “I like the slow reveal.”

To delightful camaraderie
“For a moment I just felt this peculiar… I don’t know... non-murderous connection to you or something.” “It’s called kinship, asshole.”

To swoon worthy and heart achingly lovely moments.
“I would’ve thought that, after waiting thousands of years, it would take longer.” “What would?” “Falling in love.” He brushed a tender kiss across her lips. “Surrendering my heart.” ~ Lisette & Zach

Loosening his hold, Marcus sank to his knees in front of Ami, buried his face in her chest, and wept.

I could keep going on about the tender and warm fuzzies I got, then adrenaline pumping action that had me on the edge of my seat, and of course the eye popping “oh-shit!” moments. It’s ridiculously crazy how much I highlighted. But I think I’ve made my point.

In this fifth installment of the Immortal Guardians series, the enemy is meaner, the threat is bigger, but the Guardians prove that they’re up to the challenge and can stand together even in the face of mistrust and betrayal. We get new and interesting characters that beg to be known and answers to many questions, but certainly not all, keeping the general series’ arc intriguing as ever.

And at the center of it all we read about Zach and Lisette. It was wonderful to see how their forbidden romance evolved and how it irrevocably changed them. It was interesting to observe how their relationship affected their interactions with the rest of the Immortal Guardians. I loved Lisette and Zach both. Lisette with you strength and vulnerability. But it was Zach that had me the most entranced and captivated.
He was one of the most powerful beings on the planet, and yet he seemed heartbreakingly ignorant of his own worth.

Having all the gang together made for an incredible rich story, witnessing the girl power that has emerged with every new addition. We also get to know much more of Seth and attest to his protective care over his Immortal Guardian family. It was touching and obvious in the lengths he took to take care of them.

Night Unbound is written with Dianne’s masterful hand lending wonderful innovation within the paranormal genre. It’s magnetic from start to finish and I highly recommend it to all paranormal readers reminding them that this is a series with a global arc that should be read in order.

Vampires are my favorite supernatural creatures, by far-although I do like werewolves too. The Immortal Guardians series by this author is one of my favorite go to’s for this type of read. Of course Immortal Guardians are not really vampires-they do have the virus that causes vampirism, but their DNA is unique, so they stay sane, while the vampire goes insane. They also have special abilities.

This time around, it’s Lisette, the Immortal Guardian from France, that’s the focus of the book. She’s been in the other books, but other than the fact she’s a sister to Richert and Etienne, who are also Immortal Guardians, I didn’t remember that much about her. This is also Zach’s story. He is not an Immortal Guardian, but he has lived thousands of years, and he has wings. We also find out a lot more about Seth, the eldest, and leader of the Immortal Guardians. I’ve been really wanting a book featuring him, or even David, another of the oldest, and second only to Seth. Maybe someday.

Zach has really wanted to know Lisette for awhile now-although I am not sure which book in this series, introduced him. He likes to sit on the roofs of wherever she is, and with his enhanced hearing, listen to all the goings on in David’s household, or Lisette’s home. Now she watches for him. Of course there’s an extreme infatuation going on, but Seth is totally against him, and thinks him guilty of nefarious crimes, so it’s really hard for the two to find time alone. Of course love wins out, even if they have to sneak around. Zach has never been in love before, so it was fun watching all the emotions he goes through-and how fast he catches on to the more sensual aspects of being in love!

As usual with these books, there’s plenty of sensual romance, and lots of huge fights. Vampire hunting involves lots of action, so there’s plenty of that as well. I always enjoy the interactions of all the Immortal Guardians with each other, their Seconds(human helpers), and of course their spouses, immortal or not.

I am hoping that the next book’s premise will involve something more then mercenaries, and invading huge complexes. That was the only thing that bothered me, because it has been done before in previous books. However, I love the world this author has created, and wait patiently(not really!) for each book to be published, so it really didn’t bother me that much. I always dive into these books, and completely immerse myself in this world, and enjoy every minute.

I recommend this whole series to adult Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance fans. I would start with the first book if you haven’t started these yet, because they do go in a certain order. 4.5 stars (PureTextuality.com)

This series has not let me down once. I was so excited for Zach and Lisette’s story and I am happy to report that this book delivered everything I was hoping for. I loved Zach as a hero and Lisette was the perfect match for him in every way. The romance satisfies; the sex is good. The pacing is just right and the main story arc continues to advance. Like I said… everything I could want.

Dianne Duvall has been teasing us with a Zach and Lisette pairing for a little while now. Like Seth, Zach is an Other, something older and more powerful than the Immortal Guardians. This installment picks up right where the last one left off, with Zach in some major trouble, even more than we knew. Seth thought Zach had betrayed him and unleashed his rage. It turns out he also called the rest of the Others, who snatched an already weakened Zach and held him captive, torturing him for months. His only solace was Lisette. He pictured her in his mind and eventually was able to share her dreams.

Lisette has been thinking about Zach since he disappeared. When he finally manages to teleport to her home, broken and bleeding, she doesn’t hesitate to come to his aid. She is so drawn to him, she agrees to hide him … to let something grow between them… even though she knows it would upset Seth. The longer these two stay in each other’s orbit, the deeper they fall for one another. And it’s something to see, especially since Zach has never courted a woman before. He’s never wanted to. You know what that means: virgin hero, folks. But not for long.

I loved how completely devoted these two are to one another. They are all in. For Zach, that means knowing fear for the first time in his long life. For Lisette, it means secrets from the people loves and a willingness to accept the fact that there are things she can never know about the man she loves. In the hands of a different author, these issues would play out so differently. But here, they don’t drive our characters apart. The conflicts are external –and there are plenty of problems to go around.

The threat to the Immortal Guardians is growing and evolving. Major stuff happens. Stuff I am not going to spoil. Not just with the villains, but with our core series characters. I continue to be impressed with the array of secondary characters. And I love how Duvall keeps all the people we know so involved in what’s happening. Previous couples don’t appear as cameos; they are part of the story. They’re relevant. And I still care about what’s happening to them. I’m as intrigued by David and Seth as ever –and now you can add Aidan to the list. I can’t wait to see him finally fall in love.

Bottom line: I really enjoyed this one. I totally recommend this series. If you aren’t reading it, you’re missing out.

As always, reading this series has got me all giddy. The first installment was a heavy one for me because it introduced almost all the characters in the family and almost all the surrounding details and information. But this one has got me all excited from reading Darkness Rises, because yeah I met Zach in Night Reins and I got all curious about him and Seth.

So the story pick up on the last night Zach has done his ‘gargoyle duty’ and his stalking of Lisette. Then, Seth teleports him, accuses him of going against Immortal Guardians and drains him of his powers, and left him to be tortured by the Others. Ah, Seth, that was so harsh. I like you, but your judgment sometimes, argh!

Zach is like Roland and Bastien rolled into one, 10x worse. But he was someone who never knew affection, or compassion and most especially, love. And so like Ami, I had an instant liking for him.

Lisette is a bad ass French Immortal who have been from the start captivated by Zach. She’s a telepathic and sometimes, she is siphoned to a dream where Zach somehow made it possible to meet with her.

A new threat has arisen against the Immortal Guardians, and somehow it has become more powerful than the last time they have encountered. Also, the impending delivery of Ami’s baby has got everyone all riled up and worried.

As usual, I enjoyed the action and the banters and humor. Yep, especially Tracy’s dream, Lisette’s second. Also, I get a glimpse of Sheldon, the kid, if you can call him that, his character’s growth. I hope there’s a novella for the Second’s lives.

But I guess, one thing I didn’t expect while reading this story is that I would feel heartache and maybe shed a tear or two. And I have hopes, maybe more baby in the upcoming books? I hope!

All in all, it was a fun adventure and a book that once I picked up, I couldn’t stop until I was finish.

Be still my beating heart... I freaking love this series so freaking much I can't stand it! This book was so good!!

I was a little nervous about this on just because Lisette and Zach were both immortals.. well Zach isn't technically an immortal but I was just afraid that there wasn't going to be that tension between them like there have been with all the other immortal couples. And then the added tension with turning them. I always loved that. But honestly this book did not need that tension at all.

Zach is obviously different and I have wanted to know more about since he warned Seth his phone was broken and who doesn't love Lisette. I loved learning more about Seth too.

And yay the baby was finally born!

Loved how everything was woven into this book. "The others" were sprinkled in. I am glad we are finally learning more about them. And I am freakin glad that Zach got away from them!! Their relationship is adorable. I love that Zach lets her be herself without going too caveman.

Wonderful read..

First listened to September 2, 2014. Zach and Lisette’s love story. And in this one I can truthfully tell you I had forgotten who was giving the super soldiers/super vamps the serum that could knock the Immortal Guardians out. It was like reading a new mystery.

And I love the way Lisette met Zach and then how he disappeared for 4 months, only for her to get him back when he dropped onto her roof then fell off it into her back yard, beat all to hell and his wings full of broken bones and lashes striping his body and ribs broken. And I loved it when she refused to tell Seth about Zach then Seth teleported her to a beach where she thought he was going to kill her for betraying him and he took her there for a totally different reason. The way she kept babbling on and on about Zach was so funny, and Seth felt so bad about what he thought she really did.

Love the battles with the horrible vamps and the mercenaries. AND I LOVE Cliff! He’s a vamp who’s been in it from the very first book and he’s a great character so I hope he’s not going to succumb to the madness and have to be killed.

There were explicit sex scenes in this book and the F-bomb was used 64 times.

As to the narration: Kirsten Potter did a phenomenal job on the voices, accents and emotions.

Review update 02/12/15 after another reread

I can't tell you how much I love this book. I'm just

This book came out last September and still it amazes me. I just love it.

Especially Zach. Since the first time we got to know Zach, I was intrigued. Who is this strange, quiet, winged man and what is his role in this series? Those were the questions I were left with after reading Darkness Rising (link to GR) and I really, really hope we would see him again in Night Unbound and then I found out that Night Unbound is indeed about HIM.

I adore Zach. In the beginning he is like a lost puppy. Not used to touch, affection and always expects the worst to happen.
"What's wrong?" [Lisette] asked, embarrassed by how breathless she sounded.
"You didn't hit me."
She stared up at him. "I'm sorry, what?"
"You didn't hit me," [Zach] said, and actually sounded angry. ~9%

But Lisette opens his eyes and for her sake he makes peace with Seth. The interaction between these two was so sweet. I was totally fangirling over Seth and Zach.

And we finally get to know the BIG secret regarding Seth and Zach!

No, we still don't find out what they actually are. We only got one little fact at the end of the book that doesn't tell us anything. It only told us what they are NOT. And they won't tell Lisette the truth. The explanation why not even made sense, dammit! And Lisette was totally okay with them not telling her. I wouldn't have been. I would have been like a little child asking them every five minutes: "Want to tell me know what you are?" *5 min later* "What about now? Want to tell me now?"

But I have a theory, which I won't voice in the fear I might be wrong. That would be

I wanna know the secret!

Now I mentioned Lisette a lot already. She is Zach's love interest, french, telepathic and totally awesome. Because come on, she knows how to operate all the cool weapons and she isn't afraid to start something with Zach even though she knows he's on Seth' bad list.

And she's funny.
His [Ethan'] face fell. "Ah, hell. You mean this wasn't a butt call?"
"Booty call, Ethan. I believe the term is booty call. Honestly, I'm a hundred and thirty years older then you and from France. How can I be more familiar with American slang than you are? You were born here." ~ 11%

She is my favourite female in this series and I love that she ends up with Zach. I hope to see those two in the next books a lot.

Now you know that I'm in love them, but I'm kinda in love with ALL the black sheeps of this series, meaning especially Zach - and Bastian.

Bastian is the hero of book #3 and I'm so glad we still get to see him often. I liked him since Darkness Dawns (book #1) where he was actually the villain.

You know how author's take the bad guy give him a book and then make him good? Well, Bastian's kind of in a grey area, because he isn't really bad, but he isn't good either. He's just Bastian. And I love Miss Duvall for the fact that she did not change his personality, that he is still the same smartass as he was in book #1.

Also we get to see all our other favourite characters again. That's one reason why I love Miss Duvall's books. She makes them all look like a big, funny family I would like to be a part of. We even get to see Sheldon again (so cute!) and he shows a new side of him. I hope he get's a side story (or a novella), because I would like to know his story.

Did I mention that these books are always funny? I had a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. It's funny, packed with action and the sex scenes are nice, too. What do you want more?

So I will now stop at this point, otherwise I will name every person and event from the book and I don't want to spoil the whole book.

So if you want to give this series a try, I would recommened to start with Darkness Dawns (Link to GR). Not sure that you couldn't just read them out-of-order, but I think it takes a lot of fun out of it.

Now I just have to wait till August. Does anyone has a time machine and want to zap ahead in time and get me the book? No? That's sad.

2nd ... ok, who am I kidding, 10th reread: Still loving it like the first time I read it.

I loved, loved, loved Night Unbound.
Zach and Lisette are just adorable together.
And I love to catch glimpses of the other charakteres.
Especially everything related to Seth. I confess I'm obsessed with Seth.
I also loved the interaction between Seth and Zach.

Now I have to wait for the next one... Can I have it now?

The problem with expecting something epic is that it rarely live up to the expectations and unfortunately I was super high on Zach since he befriended Amy.

That being sad I though this book was long and boring lol don't get me wrong, it had some great things happening, a lot of Seth, Amy's pregnancy,  a lot of vampires to kill and so on but this book kept going around and around and around. I know it was on purpose, but it as a tad too long and boring to my taste. The end was awesome though. And it was was crazy seeing the hero in Seth's shoes for two days. I seriously don't know how Seth can keep things up.

Loved the hero in this one!

Night Unbound is the 5th book in the Immortal Guardians series by Dianne Duvall. It’s an ongoing paranormal romance series, with each book showcasing a new hero and heroine in a complete story. I really liked Night Unbound. It drew me in completely, the story, the romance and the characters. By the time I finished reading I was invested in the story and the characters, not just the main characters but all of them. I love when that happens.

Night Unbound is a story filled with romance, excitement and action. The hero, Zach was wonderful, one of my favorite heroes that I’ve read this year. He’s mysteries, powerful, and sexy. I loved him with Lisette, the heroine. With her he’s protective, caring, tender and possessive. His attraction and yearning for Lisette drew him from his centuries’ long sterile and cold existence. He knew being with her would cause him to be hunted by his own kind but he wasn’t giving her up.

Lisette was just as drawn to Zach as he was to her. And even though she was ordered by Seth, the Immortal Guardian leader, to stay away from Zach, she couldn’t. I liked Lisette a lot. She’s one of the few female Immortal Guardians and she’s tough without being hard. She’s also genuine and warm hearted. I loved her and Zach together. Their romance was a joy to read.

Night Unbound has a very engaging and interesting story. The world and characters are vividly drawn. I felt as if I had stepped into the story as I grew to know the characters. I cheered their triumphs and my heart ached for their losses. I cared what happened to them and I’m anxious to read more about them in future stories. I hope that Seth gets a story of his own soon.

Night Unbound is highly recommended to fans of paranormal romance. It can be read as a stand-alone novel, but for the best enjoyment, I recommend reading the series in order starting with the first book, Darkness Dawns.

Lisette’s heart aches for Zach, a man she knows has been declared a traitor. Zach is not about to defend himself against crimes he didn’t commit but he’ll damn sure defend the woman who kept him sane in this riveting paranormal romance.

This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers on the edge with suspense, action, drama and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written words and details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated drama and suspense draw the reader deeper into the story. The characters are strong, compelling and grab the reader’s attention while the believable action scenes adds thrills and excitement.

The attraction between Lisette and Zach burns up the pages and erupts with some hot and steamy sex scenes, but the relationship has major drawback. Seth the leader of the Immortal Guardians has declared Zach a traitor and with super vamps suddenly start appearing from nowhere Zach knows that he’ll be the one blamed which will get Lisette blamed by association. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the all the drama and passion of their romance as they try to keep it secret…kind of hard to do with so many telepaths around.

The Immortal Guardians protect humans… but who protects them when there is a traitor among them. Spine tingling anticipation builds throughout the story as the danger escalates, more guardians become suspects and they find out that the super vamps and their enemy has gotten a lot more complicated. The guardians are a family and for them to suspect one of their own causes lots of hurt and friction but they also have a couple of happy events to celebrate in this story that adds lots of depth to the story and characters. I can’t wait to read the next book and learn more secrets about these fascinating warriors.

Favorite Lines "I want to try something."

"I just can't give that up without seeing where it can lead me. It's too rare. Too precious."

"Because I've lived for over two hundred years and haven't felt this alive, this eager to greet each new night, since I was mortal. You make me feel things I never thought I would again, Zach."

"Now take me in your arms and make me forget the cold."

"I think I would l would lay waste to the world if I lost you."

"But you've given me hope."

Whew these Immortal Guardian are on fire. I knew Zach and Lisette story would be great a and it was spectacular! I was worried Zach would end up being an enemy and was so pleased when he ended up being a great guardian himself.
Someone has betrayed the guardians and when it's revealed who it is I was floored!
Zach can't believe how lucky he is to have Lisette. They are on fire together in and out of the bedroom. They are a spectacular pair and reading about them kicking butt was a treat!
I know the next book will be amazing.
I love this author. Have loved her since the first book. This series is one of my all time favorites!

YESSSSSSS! By far my favourite book of the series so far! Zach is the bessttttt! I was so ready to be angry at Seth in this book for acting like a douche at the beginning, but he redeemed himself. And I loved the resulting bromance thing between him and Zach and how Seth learned to trust him and let him take over for a couple days so he could get some sleep. And how Seth repayed him in the end was so sweet <3 The TRUE romance of this book!

Just kidding---Lisette was so loving and sweet, and still a total badass. Of course. There was some wicked chemistry between her and Zach and a lovely shower scene that'll make your toes curl. I loved how when Seth accused Zach of being a traitor, she refused to doubt him. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Stand up for your man, girl! Loved it.

Lisette d'Alençon and the exiled Zack are absolutely perfect for each other.
-A lot of questions were answered about The Others for me and of course added more.
-Cliff is becoming way too important to me. I get upset at the thought of his future.
-I enjoyed all of the moments between Zack and Seth.
-Lisette and her brothers interactions were precious and at times hilarious.
I have to say I’m enjoying these. It’s not the greatest series but it is pleasurable and just right for easy summer reading. That makes it special in itself.

We get Zach and Lisette's romance in this story. Oh I was so curious about them since we got hints in the previous books and knew it was inevitable. There was no way these two would not end up together. So despite Seth's decree, Lisette helps Zach become more human than he ever thought possible. Quite a feat for an Immortal Guardian. :) I love Zach's transformation from stoic to romantic.

While you probably can read this series out of order for the character's romances, I think that the series is best read in order. That way you get some of the nuances of the characters and the full story arc that has been going through this series. Oh and we get a new character that I can't wait to meet more fully.

Oh I don't want to say too much because I know I would then say too much! I love this series and recommend it highly! I especially think that those that like PNR with some UF thrown in will really enjoy this series and world. I give this book in the series 4 1/2 stars. I can't wait for the next book and eagerly await the next book in the series. I also can't wait for David and Seth's romance! :)
