Drop dead gorgeous, strong male lead Garrett Kavanagh has never met his biological father. He is the son born of his mother’s adulterous affair while married to Bart Kavenagh, a ruthless man who hated the child. As part of a family with a bad reputation, Garrett faces many challenges. Life is a struggle in 1870’s New Brunswick.

Garrett dreams of building fine horse-drawn carriages one day, but starting out he’s practically penniless and restaurateur, Abby Maitland, offers him a job. He accepts and quickly finds himself in love with her but is warned away by her disgruntled husband. Further disheartened when an old family grudge sabotages his future, Garrett leaves town on the next available stagecoach in this historical romantic suspense set in picturesque Eastern Canada.

On that coach is a beautiful young woman who is immediately smitten by this tall, handsome man….

Editorial Review, Nancy M.

Eden Monroe paints an accurate picture of life in the Maritimes when travel by horse and buggy and steam ships were common and hard work was the order of the day. The journey of the two star-crossed lovers is engaging and not overdone with unnecessary drama. The inclusion of a rich young lady determined to capture the handsome Garrett for her own is fraught with frustration, but also a bit of humour. Add in some small town prejudices and unlooked for adversity to season the plot and you have a great read. I look forward to reading the as yet unwritten future stories of the Kavanaghs.

Ms. Monroe is a masterful storyteller. Her historical fiction novel, set in the 1870s, had me cheering for Garrett Kavanagh, a man burdened by a family name that carried a dark reputation. Hated by his father and brothers, Garrett was unfairly labeled a bad seed despite having done nothing to deserve it. He breaks away from his family to pursue his dream, using his woodworking skills to craft beautiful carriages.
The novel’s well-drawn characters—both allies and adversaries—add depth to Garrett’s journey. Ms. Monroe’s vivid descriptions bring every scene to life, from moments of humor to the struggles he faces, culminating in a sweet love story. I recommend this engaging book for readers of romance and historical fiction. J.Q. Rose, cozy mystery author
