Sarah Zane is an author of happy endings for traumatized queers. As a bisexual, it should be shocking to no one that she has more than one genre she loves and writes. She writes across genres but guarantees that a Sarah Zane book will always be queer and always have a happy ending eventually. She has a particular fondness for writing sapphic pairings since they tend to be underrepresented in books. She lives in New England with her 2 black cats named Gatsby and Mr. Darcy. When she isn't writing, she can be usually be found taking forest walks, visiting castles, planning exotic trips she can't afford, or cuddled up with one of her cats crying over fictional characters or yelling at them about how badly they need therapy.

What a wonderful experience! This novella really grabbed my attention, skillfully combining different viewpoints into a great story. Each character added their own charm, making the story lively and interesting. I was completely hooked, eagerly turning pages as the plot developed. Sarah does a fantastic job of keeping everything clear while handling various perspectives, so I never got bored. I can't wait to read more of her work—she definitely has a talent for telling captivating stories!

This little novella has it all! Badass female pirates? Check. Sirens with mystical powers? Check. Colonizing misogynistic men getting exactly what’s coming to them? Check. A sapphic subplot, characters you can root for, and a storyline that’ll keep you glued to every page? Check, check, and check! I read this whole book in one sitting—and you will too!

I thought it was a cute story but the problem is if you write a book that's only 70 pages or so long you can't spend 40-50 of the pages character/world building. The lead up to everything was far more detailed than the heist itself. Also it went a little too smoothly and there was an additional unnecessary character that could have been spared and the extra pages could have helped with the development. I recommend this book if you are trying to reach a certain number of books and you need a quick one to help your goal, but it was okay in general.

I very much enjoyed this read. A good short story I was able to pick up and finish in the course of a day to help me hit my reading goal. I enjoyed the style it's written in, i loved how even though every chapter swapped perspectives with characters the story still flowed really well which could've very easily not been the case but I'm so glad it worked. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more by Sarah!

LOVE I picked this book up at providence pride and I am honored to say I met Sarah Zane herself (insert cool emoji). Great representation and I love the different perspectives and roles each woman on the crew has. If you know me and want to borrow my copy I will happily let u :)
