This novel is a fast paced, scifi fantasy ride into a not unplausible future. Using time line annotation as chapter headings, the author is able to both take the reader deeply into the main story right away and also go back to explain in later chapters how we arrived at this point in the 'now' by decisions that were made in the past.
The story itself moves very quickly and the author has thought thru and thought out the battle scenes in great detail and depth. I found myself rolling from battle to training to battle throughout the story and therefore unable to put the book down.
Some of the explainations defining the science involved in the storyline get to the point where they are to be taken 'on faith' - which I enjoy in sci/fi fantasy works, suspending my belief as it were - but some of the concepts of who has discovered what or who designed what tend to pull from the storyline.
One thing I didn't really enjoy was the aspect of how characters related to one another. The relationships - child to parent, friend to friend, lovers to one another - feel somewhat forced and perhaps even a bit adolescent in their telling.
Also, I never did come to understand what the acronym RAECE really stood for or how it worked into the story.. I got where some of the other acronyms came from, and maybe it's a small point, but when I got to the end and didn't really feel that this point was ever covered, it stuck in my craw just a bit.
All in all, a good book and a thrilling battle ride, as long as one can look past a few minor issues with character and backstory development. Glad to have read this and I would recommend it for fun sci/fi reading.

I very much enjoyed reading R.A.E.C.E Genesis! This book is a fun read, if you like hard scifi with aliens, ships, battles, a classic hero and good supporting cast. I found this book very difficult to put down
Mr Porter creates a plausible not-to-far future universe where first contacts go well and badly. He describes characters and humanity's sometimes not ideal responses to those contacts and events. He also builds the alien cultures with enough depth to understand why they act as they do. The future tech is explained and makes sense for the time frame.
Porter tells the stories of a couple main characters while weaving in the future history. I found his story weaving to be a fine way to keep my interest in all the story threads. The main character, Jack, is someone I easily rooted for. He has flaws, can make a bad decision, but that kept the story interesting and unpredictable. By the end of the story, I found there were a half dozen humans and others I would like to meet.
The pace of the story is fairly intense and the style might be seen as brutally honest at times. I read lots of scifi and fantasy and found Porter's story telling refreshing. It fits this genera well. My advice is, don your armored suit, strap in and enjoy the ride!

I received this book thru a Goodreads Giveaway! Interesting Story - reminds me little of the beginning story of the child that became known as John-11... did enjoy reading it a an adult, however I really believe this is targeted mmore toward a young adult audience. My hat's off to the author for a good book!!! Thank you for the read!!

A solid story with a break-neck pace. The characters' motives were sometimes unclear, and some of the scientific liberties could have been better explained for clarity, but all around, this was a fun and joyful ride. I enthusiastically look forward to reading more books by this author.

Enjoyed this book - military sci fi, with a game based feel. Ok it's not Starship Trooper or Honour Harrington - but it's fun, it's written with feeling, and it kept me turning the pages.
