Rejected by God, the survivors of the reckoning must fight to keep the Earth. The zombie apocalypse meets Left Behind.
This semi-heretical take on the reckoning follows the "survivors" of the reaping as they deal with the trauma of being God's benchwarmers. When the desiccated corpses of the chosen ones reanimate, the end of days starts to look more like a true apocalypse. To rid themselves of this dangerous and nuisance plague, the powers that be, (a.k.a. the a-holes God didn't want) decide to take a note from history and use these demon-ridden corpses for entertainment.

After the infamous and greatly exaggerated apocalypse takes the souls of nearly half the world's population, Lenore is left to figure out life beyond the banality of her previously humble existence. But, with the demon-ridden corpses of her former neighbors trying to kill her, there isn't much time for self-exploration. In fact, the end of days is turning out to be a lot of work.
Fortunately, Lenore has found some new friends to help protect her. The only downside is that they expect her to help fight off this demon invasion. As a devoted coward, Lenore is reluctant to give up her tried-and-true strategy of running like a ninny. However, with more and more demons stepping out of hell and donning the skin of familiar strangers, Lenore is running out of places to hide. It might be time for her to fight.
Felicia Jedlicka writes immersive fantasy and science fiction that blends strange worlds with deeply human characters. Known for crafting character-driven stories with escalating stakes, Felicia weaves complex relationships, moral dilemmas, and epic confrontations into every book.
Felicia's work centers on the people at the heart of the chaos, whether it's a book about a top-secret prison, witches performing exorcisms, or the unraveling of galactic alliances. Her prose is straightforward and infused with a sharp, elegant wit that pushes her story forward without stealing the stage.
I enjoyed this book, although it was short where it needed to be long and long and repetitive where it could have been short. As i have the second book I will read it.
I have to say however that if the Strong Leader (August) maybe, just maybe you should actually talk to your protege as opposed to having someone beat her up.
The more I think of this book, the less I like it😜
This looked like it was going to be fun so I gave it a shot. It did turn out to be fun, but I didn't expect it to be quite this engaging. Jedlicka keeps the suspense level high without obviously manipulating the reader and the pace at which the story develops is great. It really sped me through the book. I definitely want to check out the next book.
pretty good book! i used to live in omaha and was in pretty much all the writing groups in town i feel like i could have known and gotten along with the writer in meatspace! i was happy to see a zombie apocalypse set in my old stomping grounds the book is pretty good a good deal of action and the character development is realistic for a "rapture reject" zombie apocalypse setting content warning: theres the violence one can expect in a zombie apocalypse, one kinda almost sexual assault. a drug overdose but its not trauma porn or anything. the sex scenes were brief and well written not juvenile and ridiculous as sex scenes can usually be. i recommend this book, it was fun and i cannot wait to see where the other two go!
It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't my cup of tea. It wasn't really about zombies, but more about demons who took over humanity. They act like zombies except they can talk. In my opinion this book was wishy washy. I had been told by a friend that this book was a zombie romance. The book does have some romance in it, but barely. Lenore is so dependent on her group until Garrett shows up and then he 'trains' her by beating the crap out of her and scaring her several times. Sorry author, but I don't think I will buy the rest in this series.
CCatA is an unusual take on the apocalypse but it’s very interesting and much of it is intense. I love the supernatural aspects that are just developing in the last third of the book. I hate the deaths of characters I really like though. The main characters are well-developed and easy to like or not. It is definitely a different world from any I’ve read about before. I hope to read book 2 soon. I highly recommend it.
Another captivating story from this author, if you haven’t read anything by her then I highly suggest that you grab this book and start reading. It’s book 1 in a trilogy, that didn’t take anything away though from this book. I loved every second of this story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I liked this I do wish that he could have found a way to change Lenore's training it did not have to be done with her getting beat so badly. I understand the reason I just felt it was the wrong way to go about it 8n this day and age. Did enjoy the book though
This was a very very entertaining book. Nothing like a normal zombie book at all. This book is more about the characters and Felicia fleshes them out nicely. It is not a thrilling read but it an interesting read that holds you throughout the book.
Loved this book. When I started reading it I wasn't sure I would, who loves a totally weak full of themself survivor of an apocalypse? Not I. But as the story progressed I became intrigued and then suddenly I was in the story completely, not able to put the book down. Then, as I read the last word, I was full blown ticked asking myself, it's over??? Dang! That's all I can say, dang. I want more!
A very different take on the "End of civilisation". An interesting read. Some of the plot lines finish rather abruptly but as I am not a writer just an avid reader who am I to judge. Likeable characters even though they are all drop dead gorgeous. Still worth a read.
