An introductory and technical book for Zig, a new general purpose and low-level programming language. This book is designed for both beginners and experienced developers. It explores the exciting world of Zig through small and simple projects. Some of these projects a Base64 encoder/decoder, a HTTP Server and an image filter.
As you work through the book, you will syntax of the language, and how it compares to C, C++ and Rust.Data structures, memory allocators, filesystem and I/O.Optionals as a new paradigm to handle nullability. How to test and debug a Zig application.Errors as values, and how to handle them. How to build C and Zig code with the build system that is embedded into the language.Zig interoperability with C.Parallelism with threads and SIMD.And more.
Really solid. Had a blast working through all four projects. This guide basically gives you enough confidence to get started with the language. The Kindle version I had was already a bit outdated, so I had to refer back to the website pretty often, especially since 0.16 introduced some major IO changes. But that's to be expected from a guide covering a language that's still in beta.
One of the only books about Zig. The book is "open" and is still under active development. It introduces Zig through a couple of projects. It feels like it needs a little more work but is a great start.
