content warnings (some spoil):

grace’s chronic illness has made it to where she is unable to leave her bed most days. she feels she has no reason to live, until she meets a mysterious boy outside her room. soon enough, she discovers this boy is actually dead. still, she finds herself pushing her limits more to be with him.

i don’t even know how to describe this book except for saying it’s no surprise this was written in the 2000s. i liked the premise of a chronically ill girl befriending a ghost, but unfortunately, this book just did not quite deliver for me. there were some aspects i enjoyed, and being chronically ill myself, i could relate to some aspects of grace’s story. i didn’t like the ending or whatever message that was trying to send. felt very r&j to me. i don’t foresee myself reading more from this author.

Not at all what I expected! It's a book written in comic book form (this is called Manga). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga
It's obviously targeted to teens or younger, very emotionally overwrought and melodramatic. Still, an interesting read and good for kids who aren't that into reading.

i was really attached to this book as a child!! still good.

p.s. my social worker partner wants to emphasise that this book has many triggers and is definitely not for anyone struggling with mental health issues or social isolation.

This is the second time I've read this comic. It still hurts to read like the first time. The stepdad is a douche.

Girl with mysterious disease sees/befriends ghost.

No hijinks ensuing.
A bit depressing, at least to me.
