Ok, so let's talk about Sword of Nightmare 🗡️ First off, WHAT just happened? This book messed with my emotions in the best way possible! It's dark, twisted, and has moments that made me laugh out loud (sometimes when I really shouldn't have, thanks to Rui's sarcastic internal monologue)

This is one of those reads that slaps you with plot twist after plot twist (Mehdi’s speciality!) leaving you reeling in the best kind of "did that really just happen?" I'm talking about the kind of plot twists you secretly love because it keeps you completely hooked.

Rui's journey through this deep, dark, fantasy world was anything but predictable. From the second he crosses paths with Elise, things go from mysterious to downright intense, and you can feel the stakes rising with each chapter. The connection between them? It just hits different! spiritual and charged, but not in the overly cheesy way. It feels real, and you’re rooting for them through every battle, both literal and emotional.

The world of Synkka is eerie and fascinating.
There's no downtime! just non-stop action, creepy phantoms, and Rui facing off against the encroaching darkness. The whole vibe of this world? It's refreshingly different from typical fantasy, and it’s such a wild ride.

If you're in the mood for something that shakes up your usual fantasy experience and keeps you guessing, Sword of Nightmare is a must-read. It's dark, it's deep, it's emotional, and it'll have you flipping pages way past your bedtime. Trust me, this one's worth it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫 Surprise Indeed! What a whirl wind of a ride this book is! There was great world building and character building in his that I just latched on too right away. As well as plenty of the action that I wanted into a single book.

There is just so much I could tell you about this novel! However, that takes away from the experience we each have as a reader when too much is provided.

I truly think the Author did a great job grasping and keeping my attention. I didn’t want to put this one down and am ready to see what comes next!

A huge thank you to the author for allowing me
An ARC opportunity even through my recent illness I was allowed still read it and that said a lot about the author as a person.

All thoughts are my own and not the opinions of anyone else.

This was a great dark fantasy romance and it had so many twists and turns. I loved the connection everyone had with one another and my emotions truly were all over the place I couldn’t decide how I felt when reading. I did truly enjoy and am waiting to see if we’ll get a second book

Mehdi has made me fall in love with another book!

It was like reading a chaotic DND campaign, full of sass, with touches of flirting, and a sweet love story. Ruis internal monologue had me laughing through the whole story (probably some times I shouldn't have haha), watching him make his way through all the twists and turns really kept you on your toes.

I really feel like Mehdi might have made me into a fantasy girlie but we will have to wait and see!

If you like fantasy stories full of twists and turns so bendy you can't tell what's coming next this story is for you

4.75 stars - because it truly stood out from the usual fantasy fare in the best way possible.

First off, the story was refreshingly different. It had distinctive twists that kept me hooked. The characters were like a diverse D&D party – each one memorable and intriguing. The interactions between them were so much fun and added a lot of depth to the story.

The world-building was enjoyable, though I felt like we could have used a bit more detail to fully immerse ourselves in Synkka. That said, the pacing was spot on – there was never a dull moment, and the action kept coming without any lulls.

Overall, “Sword of Nightmare” is a breath of fresh air for fantasy enthusiasts seeking something new and captivating. It’s definitely worth picking up!

Well what can I say about this book....It starts off with a Lemony Snicket style content warning which by the end of reading it, I was hooked.
The story itself is action-packed, with so many twists and turns it will make you dizzy (in a good way), it definitely keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing. The author manages to draw you in and almost create an adrenaline rush from all the excitement, however, make the most of those moments as when you are at the height of your 'adrenaline rush' the author creates a rollercoaster effect where you come down hard and fast causing your heart to be torn to shreds and your head to not know where it is. The link the author allows you to create with the characters is so intense. All of the main characters, even most of the side characters are so loveable in their own way that if the character experiences some type of trauma, you feel their emotions. For example, once you get a few chapters in, you have met some side characters who may or may not become main characters and have each had their hardships then the author hits you with a proverbial baseball bat to the gut as he rips your heart out of your chest. I stared into space for 5 minutes with tears silently streaming down my cheeks after the one chapter had ended. This happens several times throughout the book. It is so well written that you don't even mind the emotional rollercoaster you go through. The author does also create a balance with his use of the side characters. There are some characters that are just completely hysterical and have you chuckling your booties off, my favorite character was Sephtis for this reason. He is such an amazing character and his sense of humour is so good 🤭 but the friendships the MMC makes along the way are wholesome and a brilliant example of a found family. Please check the trigger warnings before reading but if you aren't someone who is easily triggered and you love dark fantasy reads then this one is definitely for you

I really loved the writing style of the author. It was well written and the characters were brought to life with the emotions and the intensity.

It's a power packed book with all the emotions, be it love, banter, tears, sadness.. you'll get what you want.

It left me in tears at some parts. i want to know whyyy

"They are my memories. A part of who I am.
If they are so traumatic then it isn't fair that you should shoulder them alone"

The book is full of twists and turns. What I love more about the book is tha he unpredictable.. at some point you'll think
"Oh I know what will happen next" but when you read it till be long shocked that okay this is not what I have expected.

Overall it's a good read.. but trust me the ending had me.. and it's not HEA. You have to be patient and wait for the second book.

As patience is virtue.

But the journey in this book is fantastic. The chaos, the comic timkng, the heartfelt moments.. it was all worth it.

"What I really meant was-parts of you may be going in my mouth, and you're going to love every second of it."

Rui stands alone in his lifelong task, eradicating the evil spirits that torment the world Synkka. Shortly into his story, the wielder of Sword of Nightmare soon abandons his lonesome ways when he lays his eyes on the sweet Elise. Rui has a deep spiritual connection to Elise but neither understands why or where it came from but continues to build on the sexual tension as they fall madly in love.

Along their journey, his sword is broken shortly after a group of men attack him and Elise for killing their previous leader. This leads them to have Isaac, a healer, to join them. Yagana is a spirit released from the sword when it breaks but puts her vengeful behavior behind her as she takes a liking for Isaac. The sex-loving half-demon, Sephtis, also joins their group because he wants to take down Nathara.

I honestly loved getting to read the adventure the group is going on, even though it wrenched my heart out a little bit when we learned the truth about who Elise is and the way that Rui's story ended for this book.

"Go back to whatever shadowy hole you crawled out of, and then maybe I'll believe that you don't want to eat us."

"This is not a cozy read..." announces the back cover, and it isn't wrong. This book is a fast-paced fantasy adventure that, in short order, introduces use to the almost familiar yet harsh world of Synkka, created and then mostly neglected by a trio of deities. The humans left to fend for themselves contend with otherworldly powers, falling prey to perils from these and of their own devising. Align with or cross the god or two goddesses at your peril.

Rui, the first-person protagonist, can't help it. Heir to the legendary Sword of Nightmare, he embarks on a desperate quest to find and dispatch the very phantoms he unwittingly unleashes on the people of Synkka. In short order, he acquires a motley and fascination collection of allies, and confronts despicable and powerful adversaries. I really enjoyed the diversity of qualities, supernatural and otherwise, of Rui's band of adventurers, and would like to have found out more about some of their skills. The plot twists and turns, for both good and ill, and I did not see the end coming.

My only mild complaint is that sometimes events happened too quickly, and that fascinating ideas weren't explored in more depth. I suspect there will be a sequel, however, so look forward to learning more about Synkka then.

Wow. SoN is a high fantasy, adventure packed, twists like a roller coaster novella.
Mehdi gave us a fantasy that’s not of the usual type, but for the better! I had so many different emotions reading this. There were high, highs. Low, lows and twists that made me think WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?
The story follows Rui and his obligation to wield the Sword of Nightmare. The characters that come along for the journey provide us with the found family trope. One I adore. There is so much witty banter, humour, pinning and sxual tension amongst MC’s. There is also very dark fantasy/pnr elements that you will need to check your TW’s. This was a fast paced, ‘OMG THEY DID WHAT’, page turner that I highly enjoyed!

This story is not a cozy fantasy read. Darkness lingers on these pages and if you wanted a happily ever after, then I suggest taking a beach trip instead of reading this book.
-I took this snippet out of content warning from the book. And let me tell youuuuu…. It’s all true!

If you have read any of Mehdi’s books then you know his books are anything but the norm. And it’s a GREAT thing!

Fantasy is not my top favorite genre, but when it comes to Mehdi, I’ll read any of his books and support him no matter what. But it doesn’t mean I go in blindly. I was skeptical, but it lured me in.

When I met him in person he warned me that part of it was going to rip my heart out….again, he didn’t lie. This book has touches of romance, some fun sass, fantasy, a little paranormal, and full of adventure…and it will rip your dang heart out and make you want to throw the book. (Don’t worry, u didn’t, I wouldn’t dare ruin this beautiful book.)

First off, wow!
This story is different than any I've read before. Be ready to be taken on a whirlwind ride; Sword of Nightmare is fast-paced and will surprise you at almost every turn. I enjoyed the romance aspect, though I do wish the main courtship was more of a build up (probably just my love for slow burns).
The world is well-thought-out and so creative!! I was really impressed with the out-of-the-box thinking that came with the story.
There were some transitions that were abrupt in plot/ character development, but I enjoyed them nonetheless and believe that to be a style-choice that's easy to adapt to when getting familiar with the author's style.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book as the start of its series if you're looking for a fresh take on darker fantasy. I will absolutely be binge-reading the second book when it comes along.
Happy reading!

Rui has a legacy of being a master of the Sword of Nightmares. He decides to link up with a woman to try and hide his identity. He meets Elise and they bond and agree to continue the fight together.

Then they start to meet more and more creatures that add to their merry misfits. They are so opposite yet all make sense. There is a sense of found family on this journey as they literally risk their lives for each other.

What a fantasy journey of chaos and family. There is so much here and it’s quite a story. I will not share details to let you enjoy the journey. A must read for a fantasy lover! The stories ending makes perfect sense to the journey that happened.

Ok so I’m totally new to Mehdi’s writing but can we totally talk about Sword of Nightmare 🗡️ First off, WHAT the hell just happened? I’ve never had a book mess with my emotions before. But this one did it all in the best ways possible! It's dark, twisted, and has moments that made really made me laugh out loud one time was in church and I got dirty looks for that one lmao.

Swords of Nightmares is one of those reads that slaps you with one plot twist after another plot twist. Totally enough to leave you reeling in the best kind of did that really just happen kind of way. I'm talking about the kind of plot twists you secretly love because it keeps you completely hooked.which this book did for me it kept me hooked from page one and I couldn’t put it down.

Sooooo…..this book was definitely interesting. I’m not sure how to feel about it. It is very fast paced and does not a have a dull moment that’s for sure. I needed a ‘WTF’ counter throughout this book cause I swear I said this every other page…….So there was definitely a lot of twists and turns that shocked me.

Rui is our MMC who hunts evil spirits and banishes them. He gets caught up in something bigger and gains a few friends and companions along the way. He’s the last of his line and alone for many years that he is certainly social awkward in a cute sort of way. I will say I didn’t really get attached to any of the characters too much, I found it a little hard to connect with them, BUT I did really like Sephtis. He is such a flirty, funny half demon! ♥️

Wow, I've never been on more of an emotional roller-coaster than I was while reading this.
From laughing to crying to feeling absolutely terrified! This was such an impactful read.
The creativity that went into every aspect of this story is absolutely remarkable.

Every time I thought I had things figured out, I was thrown off balance by a plot twist and it kept me so invested in wanting to know EVERYTHING! All of the twists just fit together so well and contribute to the story in their own way.

This is the best fantasy book that I've read, and the dark elements just make it so much better!

A very unexpected ending, but it makes me so curious and excited for the next book.

Sword of Nightmare: Ghosts of Synkka! By Mehdi Fakhrahmad is in a way hard to categorize so let’s say dark horror with some romance. This author truly writes some very interesting novels and so far I am along for the ride. This book was loaded with twists that kept you on your toes all while being dark and funny at times. The characters were well written and brought to life on the pages. The world building was amazing and I loved learning about Synkka.

Rui and Elise journey through this world is dark, dangerous and thrilling. It builds with each page turn as does the tension between them. The book is about their journey and getting to know each other.

This a great book and I really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend

A fast-paced dark-themed Fantasy story that is full of emotional rollercoasters. The perfect comic timing is something that not all can pull off and I would say this book has perfect comic timing. But that doesn't make it any less emotional, the sadness that I felt from deep inside, having my heartbreak and having it fixed again all throughout was amazing, it was exceptionally well written when it came to Narrations, emotions, comic elements, and let's not forget the world building. The way this book ended, I really didn't want it to end at all, I wanted more. I wanna know more. Guys do check this book out.

The insta-love felt natural and set up a great relationship. I love found family trope and these characters being so different and coming together was so great! There's so many twists and turns! Even with all the craziness that goes on, everything just works perfectly! Mehdi's books are always making me question my sanity. Sword of Nightmare is definitely not your typical fantasy book which is why I think it held my attention so well because I certainly did lose track of time while reading. I felt as if I was side by side with all the characters as they were on their journey through this world feeling every emotion they felt from humor, pain, anger and at times I was left truly shocked. This story is fast paced, chaotic, unpredictable, and dark with some romance. If all of this is your vibe then I suggest you move on to the trigger warnings and if those are still your vibe then this is a book you will not want to miss. 🖤

Fantasy is by far the last genre I would ever choose to read. However, I love Medhi's writing and said why not?! I'm so glad I gave this book a chance because I absolutely loved it. The descriptions and his writing style made this book such an easy book to read and understand. I could not put it down. It was full of action and twists and turns they kept me fully engaged. I loved the characters, well except the villians. I will say I was super shocked by the ending and was not expecting it at all. Very well done. Fascinating read that feels part mix of Greek mythology and part anime/light novel in all the right ways, giving you an epic journey, battles for your soul, and the driving need to save humanity tempered with a humor and lightness that make this read wholly unique and absorbing. With magic wielding humans and creatures, diving beings that prove to be thoughtless and uncaring, and a group ready to battle for what’s right it’s an absolutely incredible read.
