TOGETHER . . . They must run for their lives to survive their pasts. And in the journey, they find truth . . . and an unlikely love in their hearts.
While expecting my first child (more years back than I care to count), I read my very first romance novel, and I've been in love with them ever since. I grew up in the ranch country of western Nebraska, and it was inevitable I’d eventually write lots of books about cowboys. I still live in Nebraska with my husband (who is not a cowboy), four married daughters and a whole slew of perfect grandchildren.
I'm a long-time member of RWA and RAH, my local chapter. I'm also one of the founders of Petticoats & Pistols, a popular blogsite for western romance. I love to cook, hang out at my lake cabin, and decorate birthday cakes for anyone who will let me.
This was the first book I read by Pam Crooks, and it made me a fan of hers. Quinn is a dangerous and desperate man. He is hardened and mean from being wrongly imprisioned for so many years. When he gets the chance to escape from prison, he takes it, even though it means kidnapping a nun in the process.
Hannah is innocent and sheltered, certainly not equipped to deal with a hard, fierce man like Quinn. He scares her to death initially. But slowly, she comes to understand the man he is, and he gentles as he comes to feel for the kind woman that he has kidnapped. I liked that Crooks was unafraid to have such a dark, ruthless hero. I was a little surprised at first with how different he was. But the three-dimensional characterization and the process of seeing the layers peel away from Quinn really impressed me as a reader.
This book was incredible. Crooks has a real feel for the western setting. She has all the elements that drive a really good western story, plus an excellent romance. Out of my list of favorite westerns, this one's near the top. Definitely worth reading, and it is a keeper.
The story is a journey of two souls, Hannah Benning and Quinn Landry. Hannah was raised by her con artist father, James Peter Benning, where she learned from the best, how to pick pockets, use black powder, etc. After his capture and death, Hannah wants redemption and travels to a convent where she takes her temporary vows.
The story will have Father Donovan concerned about the number of graves at the penitentiary and feels it is his Christian duty to investigate. Mother Superior will send food, and ask Sister Evangeline and Hannah to escort him.
“There is no other better suited. Your past has prepared you for this act of mercy. You have been—shall we say—hardened for what you will see there.”
The New Mexico Territorial Prison run by Warden Briggs is considered the worst prison around. What the trio will encounter will be shocking. Briggs is allowing Roger Fenwick to use his Fenwick’s Solution on the prisons—and it is killing them.
The story will have Quinn Landry using the late-hour visit of the Priest and Nuns to help facilitate his escape. He will take Hannah as a hostage and steal the horses and carriage belonging to Fenwick. The two escape but must travel at night and try and hide during the day. Not only is his life in jeopardy, but so is Hannah’s.
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Quinn was framed for the murder of his sister-in-law, and he didn’t kill her. His trial was swift and rather than remain in Texas, he was dragged and dropped at the New Mexico Territorial Prison. He has been there for four long years. He is determined to return to Amarillo and confront his brother, Elliott. Hannah wants to return to the convent, but the word is, both she and Quinn are now wanted. They go from one situation into another when they are accosted by Mexican bandoleros. They will be taken to their hideout where both Hannah and Quinn are prisoners and expected to work. What will it take for them to earn their freedom so they can make it to Amarillo?
I enjoyed the story and it kept the pages turning as each new challenge unfolded. The story is a Western tale of hope and redemption, as well as, acceptance and love. Both Quinn and Hannah will learn more about themselves and each other during their time together. He protects her, even if it is from herself. The lie about being married will come back on them, and fate will change the situation—but will it be enough? Will Hannah accept that she and Quinn have fallen in love and have a chance at a future?
I’m trying to put my mind around Hannah being a nun. I have a feeling that might have fit as well as Maria in Sound of Music. Someone with her spirit and past would have a hard time with a life of continual prayer and fasting. Although she couldn’t have had any idea of what the final results would be, maybe Mother Superior knew that the convent wasn’t where Hannah belonged when she sends her to the prison. Her unique background and skills would be necessary for Quinn’s survival. I loved this story with its mismatched collection of characters, the unlikely pairings, the humor, the danger and the twists and turns.
I enjoyed reading Hannah and Quinn story, the book was intense from the first page till the end. Quinn is on the run for his life, put in prison for the murder of his sister-in-law, that he didn’t do, Hannah has joined to be a nun for the first time of her life to have peace and feel safe, but when they’re two worlds collide, nothing would ever be the same again. Full of action packed in romance I read it in one day.
I had never heard of this author nor the book before but I loved the originality of the plot and decided to give it a try. I loved it! I loved Hannah and Quinn so much! Well worth the 99¢. I honestly would have paid quite a bit more for a book of this caliber. Well done Ms. Crooks!
Hannah's Vow is a book that you will not want to put down, once you start reading it. The characters of Hannah and Quinn are strong and determined. The storyline that brings them together at first is horrible, but they will overcome that and find the true meaning of love. I was given a copy of the book by the author for an honest review.

Wow is about all I can say about this book Hannah’s Vow by Pam Crooks is a very well written book. The characters in this book are strong characters. There was so much happening in this book it kept you on edge of you set the whole time. Many times I found it very hard to put this book down. This was a very enjoyable read and will be reread again. Just loved it
This was quite the adventure! I loved the wide variety of people and places that were portrayed here, from nuns to outlaws to banditos! The ending was so satisfying!
Some things just didn't add up. For example, after the couple is married and has gone back to the hero's hometown to confront the villain, they stay in a hotel and enjoy a long night of marital relations, lol. This next morning, they are awakened by the hero's friend. The friend is admitted into the room - the same room where the heroine is sitting up in bed, covered only by sheets. She puts on robe and walks across the room to get dressed. Hastily dressed hero and friend go into the sitting room to "give her some privacy". Why? Friend has practically seen her naked already.
Then once heroine puts on her dress, she can't do all the buttons herself. She comes into the sitting room and presents her back to her husband, and he buttons her dress up, right in front of the friend.
Really? This level of modesty from a novitiate nun in the late 1800's? Ridiculous.
The resolution with the villain was ridiculous as well.

For sheer escapist adventure of the romantic variety, this book is a winner. There's quite a bit of anachronism in dialogue and character behavior, and those who are familiar with Spanish may be put off by abysmal usage of that language ("buenas dias" and "bandeleros" stand out -- repeatedly). Horsey terms, too, take an occasional hit ("gruello"?). Some of the plot points require extreme suspension of disbelief. The story is so delightfully told, though, that I was more than willing to suspend my internal editor and just read for the fun of it.
I actually enjoyed this book. Definitely chick lit with a hardened seasoned prisoner and a woman who has taken her first steps in becoming a nun. You know the typical, he wants her but she is a nun. She wants him, but she is a nun, with the obvious lust attraction between them. But the author does a great job with the story and adding adventure, danger and some surprises in there. Both characters aren't who they appear to be. The ending was a bit weak but all in all, I definitely enjoyed this book and will read from this author again.

Not an all together bad read. The beginning of the book was exciting, entertaining and better than the second half. the second part of the book covers Quinn story. It has more romance but it was less likable because the ending wasn't very satisfying, the way u might think. The story just fizzled out for me.
The bookis free so it's worth it to check it out and see what you think.
This is book is wonderful, it has adventure, romance and a little mystery with Hannah's past she tries to hide. I couldn't put this book down I could picture the entire story. I think this could be a good movie, but it's also one of those books that should just be a book. It's sweet story with strong characters and a solid story line. It's been a few years since I've read this book but I'd still recommend this book, Pam Crooks is a great author.
This is the first book I've read by Pam Crooks. Although I typically read books with more heat, I did thoroughly enjoy this. Perhaps I've always wondered why someone would want to lose all sense of themselves to become a nun. I enjoyed Hannah's Vow very much. I appreciated how Pam was able to make me care about not only Hannah but Quinn as well. Even from the depths of hell in the prison.
I enjoyed each part of this story and the journey with which the reader goes on.
For an fictional adventure the book is very good. It is a trip to another time and place where one can get away from reality. In my opinion there are things that are unnecessarily repeated and I could tell where the ending was headed before I got there, but I enjoyed the read nonetheless.
I will definitely try another of her books as this was the first for me.
This was a nice change of pace. Very diffrent type of romane. This was the first western romance I read. I think it was a decent book but not relatable to me.
Received this book from a friend. It was a good story filled with love and adventure. To prove that he didn't kill his sister-in-law Quinn returns to Amarillo to get even with his brother Elliott. Quinn escapes prison by taking Hannah a nun hostage. Along the way Quinn and Hannah fall in love. This is the first book I have read from this author.
