"I haven’t always been a writer. My parents are writers and my brother is a writer, and I resisted that as long as I could. When I was 17, I hopped in a band’s van and I went on tour for a summer, and that was it, that was what I wanted to do. I ran a record label for 10 years, a small indie punk label. I did everything in music that you can do that doesn’t involve having musical ability. Eventually the music business, probably in a similar way to comics, will just start to break your heart, and I realized one day that I kind of hated music. I was resigned to thinking, if I’m going to be involved in music forever, I’m going to hate it for the rest of my life. I just stopped. I stopped having any sort of business with music, any involvement.
I read comics my whole life, so I just naturally fell back into another medium that is marginalized and hard to make a living in."
I didn’t find this issue as unpleasant as previous ones but I didn’t love it either. I did not like the Batman reveal. I feel that Rosenberg tends to overuse censored comics cursing. I did not like Damian trying to say that Alfred doesn’t care about him. Even though this is a small point, it’s actually my biggest problem of this issue. Sorry, this just isn’t something Damian would do. Damian has always respected Alfred. He has historically been the one person Damian can be sure cares about him, even when it seemed that Bruce or Talia did not. I appreciated confirmation that the queen is not dead, but I’m still pissed that she was taken down so fast after the narrative gave her power. Crippling Barbara Gordon. Truly a revolutionary concept. Anyway, good to finally see Supergirl and Jayna again. I also thought the backup story about Black Lightning was pretty good so far, and I’m interested to see what comes of it.
Was not a fan of the reveal of who Batman was. I also didn't like how Green Arrow went about his way at the end. Did really like Mister Miracle here though.
That Batman scene had me worried, but then I remembered it's a Rosenberg story, and my worry was gone. That ending though, no way it actually happens. Also, where the £% is the Bat-mite shorts?
Good issue. The Black Lighting back up story was awesome. I don't know how he does not have a book on his own. I had more fun with that story than the main one.
