What a great start to what I’m sure is going to be a wonderful fantasy romance series! This was perfect for fans of The Spider’s Mate trilogy by Tiffany Roberts, trust me, it’ll scratch any protective-man armed male-web making kink anyone has going on! Plus the world building and plot were actually so intricately woven (😉🕸️).

Lyda is terrified of arachnids, and while out exploring on a camping trip accidentally stumbles into a world of giant spiders, scorpions, & snakes. It turns out human history is not what she thought it was, and now she’s trapped in the shadowy realm where danger seems to lurk around every corner. Luckily (or unluckily) the Spider King Taran has a plan, and all Lyda has to do is open her heart and suppress her phobias. Easier said than done.

The whole history of Ataraxia, the Weaver Ahrana, Jabula, and the split between races was well designed. I also loved how detailed all the descriptions of the palace and people were. I definitely had to google a couple types of snakes and spiders- yikes!!! I don’t think I’d be snuggling up with anyone who could shift into anything creepy crawlie 🤢
The ending had my jaw dropping open- like whattttt is going to happen next!?! What a shocking reveal!!!

Taran was a great male lead, and the spicy tension was on point between he and Lyda. I was glad that she was able to grow as a character, as I wasn’t sure if I liked her initially, but by the end I was rooting for her!

“Am I so desperate for a boyfriend or connection that I’m willing to give it up to a spider?”

This was a definite surprise 5⭐️ read for me, and I have no regrets jumping into it.

Thank you to BookSirens & the author for a copy.

I'm not exactly a fan of "creepy crawly", but I have to admit that that's exactly why I picked this book. I was just curious and wasn't disappointed.

Lyda and Taran's story is really funny at times. Lyda in particular struggles with her arachnophobia at the beginning. But Taran, the clever Spider King, and his entourage "crawl" their way into Lyda's heart little by little.

And now, I'm excited to see how the story will continue in the next book.

This book tells the story of Lyda, a college student who stumbles upon a magical key that transports her to a world ruled by giant spiders. Lyda is initially terrified, as she has always hated spiders. She is captured by King Taran, a powerful spider king who can shift into a human form. Taran informs Lyda that she has been brought to his world for a reason and that she will be safe under his protection.

Lyda is initially resistant to Taran's advances, but she eventually begins to warm up to him as she learns more about his world and his people, the Brachne. She learns about their history and culture, as well as the other kingdoms in this realm, including the Scorpion and Serpent kingdoms. Lyda discovers that she is not the first human to be brought to this world and that some humans have been used for entertainment or as prisoners.

As Lyda spends more time with Taran, she begins to develop feelings for him, and their relationship is complicated by the fact that they are from different worlds, but they eventually find a way to overcome their differences.

Lyda eventually agrees to become Taran's queen, and together they work to strengthen the Spider Kingdom and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead. Throughout the story, Lyda learns about the importance of trust, loyalty, and courage.

This is a captivating tale of romance, adventure, and self-discovery. The story is well-written, and the characters are complex and engaging. The world-building is also impressive, and the author does a great job of bringing this fantastical world to life.

One of the strengths of the book is the way in which it explores the theme of fear. Lyda's initial fear of spiders is understandable, but she eventually learns to overcome her fear as she gets to know Taran and his people.

The book also has a strong female protagonist in Lyda. She is intelligent, resourceful, and brave, and she does not shy away from a challenge. She is a great role model for young women.

Overall, this is an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. The story is a reminder that even the most unlikely of pairings can find love and that we should not let our fears control us.

Arachnophobe Lyda explores an unusual key on a glamping trip and finds herself stuck in a shadowy realm full of sentient spiders, scorpions, and snakes. Taran the Spider King, grants her safety as his enforced guest. He sees her as the key to reversing the curse affecting his people and if he's more than willing to seduce her to obtain his goals. Can Lyda face her fears, the dangers of Arachnia, and her growing feelings for Taran?

I really liked the world in this book. The partial shifting and the minimized emotional response of the spiders and other characters was very interesting and well done. The tenuous relationship between the different factions created greater tension and stakes. I also thoroughly enjoyed Taran's stealthy approach to wooing Lyda. He truly entices her just like a male spider would with a female spider, and it made for a very enjoyable dynamic between the two.

My main problem with this book is Lyda. I can commiserate with her fears, and she does a decent job of trying to control her reactions to her environment. However, she has almost no motivation or goal for the first half of the book. She's says she wants to go home, but does nothing to try to force the issue or really get away. She takes things at face value and immediately obeys any advice given to her. This turns out to be wise, but doesn't make sense for a character that is kept somewhat against their will. Her decision to become more intimate with Taran is rather abrupt, and her decision to essentially throw her lot completely in with him is even more abrupt. I understand that she is conflicted for the first half of the book, but we really needed a bit more fleshed out for her motivations to stay in Arachnia to make her actions more believable. Thankfully Lyda is much more capable and interesting in the second half of the book.

Spider King is an urban fantasy romance in a creative, unique world. I look forward to see what happens in the next books in the series.

Spider King: Lord of Arachnia by Paige Skye is an enthralling mix of romance, adventure, and richly imaginative fantasy. Skye crafts a unique story that draws readers into a world unlike any other—a kingdom ruled by spiders, scorpions, and snakes, where danger and intrigue lurk at every turn.

Lyda, the relatable and resourceful heroine, brings an emotional depth to the story as she navigates her fears and challenges in this strange, shadowy realm. Her journey of personal growth, from confronting her arachnophobia to stepping into her own strength, is both inspiring and engaging. Her interactions with Taran, the enigmatic Spider King, are filled with tension, humor, and genuine emotional connection, making their evolving relationship the heart of the book.

Taran is a compelling character, equal parts regal and unexpectedly charming. His struggle to save his kingdom while grappling with his growing feelings for Lyda creates a perfect balance of external stakes and internal conflict. The chemistry between Lyda and Taran is beautifully written—equal parts sweet, steamy, and emotional—and keeps you rooting for them through every twist and turn.

The world-building is a standout element, with vivid descriptions that make Arachnia feel alive, from its eerie landscapes to the intricate dynamics of its courts. The political intrigue and battles against rival factions add layers of tension and excitement to the story. While some plot points, particularly the betrayals and court politics, could have been explored more deeply, the story maintains a compelling pace that keeps the pages turning.

Spider King: Lord of Arachnia is a gripping and imaginative tale that seamlessly weaves romance, adventure, and fantasy. It’s a four-star gem that’s perfect for readers who love slow-burn romances, complex characters, and worlds that feel fresh and original. Paige Skye has created a story that will keep you hooked and leave you eager for more!

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Lyda, college student with a fear of spiders comes across a secret key that opens a gateway to another world - populated by three races: spiders, scorpions and snakes…. And they are human sized as opposed to “normal sized”. An interesting cross species love interest, a healthy dose of politics & family drama… rounded off with lashings of spice.

The main characters in this book seem to grow on you throughout the story but for me, aside from being an arachnophobe, I struggled to relate to both of them. The side characters, MMCs most trusted were more relatable for me but didn’t have much of an arc so the result in this for me was that I wasn’t as invested as I would have liked.

The plot itself was enjoyable and I did like the twist at the end but throughout the book I didn’t find myself eager to turn the pages and not sure if that’s down to plot of not being invested in the characters.

It’s the first book I’ve read regarding spiders and I personally found some bits giving me the ick (arachnophobic here) but I’ve not reduced the rating on this basis as that would be unfair.

The ending itself has left me wanting to know more so I do think I will be picking up book 2 as I want to know what happens next! I would love to see some time spent on Earth the next time around with side characters I can relate too or maybe FMC story line could have some bearing on that.

All in all a solid 3.5 stars rounded to a 4.

So, I was pleasantly surprised by this book.

It could have used a bit more structure and building on the chemistry between Lyda and Taran.

Lyda is afraid of spiders, so when she finds herself trapped in a world full of them, her fear is pushed to the limits. It doesn't help that she is forced to be a guest in a great plan for a better world for these shapeshifting spiders.

Taran has his people teach lyda about their ways. As he himself is their to aide her in any questions she might have.

Taran is used to humans stumbling into his world. Yet, when lyda is found, he finds himself drawn to her. He wants her to teach him about her ways as he teaches her about his. Especially with learning about feelings and how to control them. Turning fear into anger.

I did love that it wasn't insta lovey. That can break this kind of book for me.

I enjoyed the take on a world where scorpions, spiders, and snakes reside in the hopes of merging back into the human realm. I haven't read anything like this before. These three species have to co-exist in hopes of one day finding a way back to the human realm. Of course you always get that one, who wants different than the others.

Great scenes with battles and betrayel.

Easy read even as someone that doesn't love spiders… or snakes, or scorpions. Female main character Lyda ends up finding a door in the woods and crossing into an parallel dimension and into the Spider Kingdom. The spider king Taran (sadly, not a tarantula) decides to try and woo this human and take her for his own mate. While learning to overcome her fears, Lyda learns about the day to day life of the spiders and the court politics for the upcoming meeting of the species. As the snakes and the scorpions are set to arrive in the spider kingdom at any time, Lyda is struggling to not let her fears rule her new life.

The book is fast paced and an easy read. Good character development and great world building. I received this book as a free arc read but the thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.

Let me start this by saying I am terrified of spiders. So when I started this book I thought I was an absolute idiot, because I am afraid of spiders & I thought this might be my first DNF book.

I started reading it at 9 after everyone else was in bed, and I also began questioning that choice because reading a book about spiders right before bed seemed like another not very smart decision on my part. Very quickly that didn’t matter though. I was swept up in Lyda’s story as she overcame her own fear of spiders and how she fell for Taran before she even realized it. They both had to overcome a lot in order for their relationship to work, both personally and together, but seeing them flourish honestly made me forget about the whole spider thing.

Paige did such a fantastic job writing this story and I really can’t wait to see what comes next.

Lyda has arachnophobia, like many people. Her world about to be turned upside down, though, and she is about to get much more intimate with spiders than she ever would have imagined. While on a camping trip with friends she finds herself suddenly in a world populated by snakes, scorpions, and yes, spiders as well.

Now, she must come to terms with her fear while in the presence of Taran, the so-called Spider King. He’s charming, at least, so that makes things a bit easier. Taran needs Lyda’s help, and he’s willing to do anything to get it. As the two are threatened by many foes, they begin to develop a bond with each other. Admitting how they feel could be their greatest challenge, though.

Recommended book!
This incredible first installment is the perfect escape for anyone looking to break away from a hectic daily routine. It’s impressive how this book masterfully blends multiple genres such as fiction, fear, and action, drawing the reader in completely. The author’s simple language immediately hooks you, making the story even more enjoyable. I especially appreciate how the novel highlights the importance of facing one’s fears, suggesting that phobias might be creations of our imagination. Despite being fiction, it reflects real-life experiences of those dealing with phobias. Without a doubt, this book leaves the door open for a second part, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an exciting reading.

Lyda is afraid of spiders ( same)
Taran
She walked into a spider den 😳
He straights up and tells her he wants to mate with her.
My reaction would be the same.
She is slowly giving in to him and wanting him like how he wants her.
She already let him kiss her and she wanted it to happen
So she did give in and she is okay with him being a spider.
He toke her to the Web where the mating will happen but end up doing the spicy.
His brother attacked lyda almost spicy her but she managed to be saved by the king after left him clues to find her.

In the end she gave him what was needed and he gave her everything.
I didn't think I would like this one but I enjoy it.
Book 2 I'm looking forward to.

Very contradictory things happened to me when I read “Spider King”. On the one hand, the premise seemed a bit trite to me already, the protagonist falling in love with the antagonist and making him change his attitude has been used for centuries in any kind of story. However, I must also say that the book is so well narrated, with so many details and elements that at no time did I mind the repetitive plot but enjoyed a gripping read from beginning to end.
The action is present in every single page and the mystery around the characters is consistent throughout the chapters which made me want to keep reading. This is a masterpiece that I highly recommend.

What a great book! I never thought I would like it so much but I really couldn't stop reading it. It is a science fiction book, with a very particular atmosphere and a story that will hook you from the beginning. I loved the characters; I think that both the main characters and the secondary ones add a lot of depth to the plot and are developed in an incredible way throughout the story. I love the love story that is generated through the chapters, it made me connect even more with the reading and also the way the author writes is incredible, it has a lot of power and uses the necessary tactics so you can't stop reading it. It leaves you with the intrigue in many parts and I love that.

After having read a few wonderful books with arachnid/human characters, the cover of this ebook instantly grabbed me. :D Though will admit, I'm not a fan of Scorpions. I have handle snakes, so no issue with them or books that feature such creatures. :D
Lyda is our human, who is out camping with friends, suddenly finds herself in a world filled with all three, and her biggest fear - spiders.
Taran is the ruler of the Spider kingdom, he finds that Lyda just might be able to help him, help his kingdom, to bring life back to his people. But... there are obstacles along the way, as they work together, and develop stronger ties.
I look forward to seeing what this author comes creates next.

tingles of love

I went into this story blind. I saw a spider on the cover and knew I had to try it and was pleasantly surprised! There is a great story line and honestly I felt like a deeper message when it’s comes to fearing things & how you respond to those fears!

Lyda is seriously caught in a web that affects an entire species! Taran is a spider king! And yes they transform!!! His title is being threatened while he’s trying to make a better future for his kind and those also feared by humans!

I really enjoyed this story and without saying too much look forward to book 2!

I enjoy shifters and this is my first spider shifter book. Lyda's curiosity leads her to the experiences she never expected. Can she accept all she sees and learns? The spider king Taran has an evil brother to be wary of.

Can Lyda learn to live in her new environment? Taran is patient, but can he protect what everyone wants to eat?? Can Taran open new worlds up to Lyda? Will Lyda survive and thrive this new experience? I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.

Taran and Lydas chemistry was really good but I am not sure how you go from full blown arachnophobia to in love in that short space of time. I felt .like the idea behind the story was good but the pace was quite slow so I found myself having to reread parts to take it in.

I feel like if you understand spiders this book would be unbelievable as the attention to detail about the subspecies are amazing but it just gave me the shivers

This was my first book I'd read by this author, and I found the paranormal story entertaining and enjoyable and well written. The characters were engaging and likable, and the worldbuilding was well done. This story is about Lydia who's afraid of spiders being swept into a world ruled by spiders, scorpions, and snakes. Lydia is befriended by The Spider King, Taran who takes her in as his guest. Taran believes Lydia might be the one to save his people. As Taran woos Lydia will she forget her fears and help free his people? I volunteer to read and review this copy I'd received.

I loved this book, I wasn’t sure if it would be for me as I’m not a big fan of spiders but surprisingly it actually made me enjoy it more because I felt I could better connect with the FMCs fears and feelings.
The world building was so interesting and I loved the relationship that built between the two main characters. The spice was fantastic and everything from the cool side characters to the villains was thoroughly enjoyable.
Really looking forward to the next book in this series.

The worst place for someone scared of spiders is to be transported to a world of spiders. She is not going to have a very easy time but the king knows he needs her to help them. It is not going to be easy for her but it may help her with her fears. A lovely tale about facing your fears and gaining something very special.
I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I felt a part of this beautiful tale

Even though I'm not a big fan of spiders I do enjoy shifters books. Lyda is very curious but will she accept everthing she sees? Taran is the spider king and he has an evil brother, beware!

Can Lyda adapt to her new surroundings? Even as the king Taran knows it will be hard to protact her from everyone that wants to eat her. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book and am giving an honest opinion.

Thanks to the author for the copy 💕

I loved this, so much that I felt myself fly through reading it! I loved the dynamic of Lyda being scared of spiders to then getting with taran as well as how I loved watching Thier relationship grow through the book as the learnt more about each other and what they are. I also loved that there was a constant feeling of suspense and threat throughout the book, as well as how it left on such a cliffhanger!!

Wow

This book was so unexpectedly good. Lyda like her curiosity get the better of her. And it took her into a world beyond her wildest dreams or nightmares. Taran sees Lyda and knows she's the key to his dreams and plans. He find so more than he imagined. Their banter was so good. I need book 2.

POC Rep

First, I love that the FMC is a black girl. This is the first paranormal shifter romance book I’ve read that had a POC woman!

Secondly, how did something as creepy as a SPIDER become so hot :o Taran is an underground, pale af mullet man if that cover isn’t mistaken, but he’s very polite. I could have done without the enemy’s SA attempt but it was handled well.
