The Last Reich

Rate this book
September 25, 2023 A heinous, co-ordinated plot to attack a series of prominent synagogues, located across five different continents, is scheduled to take place on Yom Kippur – the Jewish Day of Atonement. For that one day of the year, celebrated prayer houses will be packed to the rafters with Jewish worshippers and the results could prove to be devastating. The mastermind behind the attacks is a direct blood descendant of Adolf Hitler - his grandson, former Republican presidential candidate, John Franklin. Artfully manipulating a number of fanatical, Neo-Nazi para-military groups across the globe, Franklin is looking to fulfil his grandfather’s legacy and land a major blow against Jews located across the world. But in reality, the attacks are nothing more than an ingenious smokescreen for a far more sinister plot, which if successful, could severely unbalance geo-politics in the Middle East, sparking a global war between the Superpowers.Chief Inspector Nicholas Vargas of The Buenos Aires Police Department and Troy Hembury, the Head of Internal Security for the White House combine forces with senior colleagues at the FBI and Mossad, in a race against time to try to uncover the truth behind “Operation Atonement” and thwart the plan, as the consequences of failure could be disastrous for world peace.Peter James – Brian Klein is an exciting new talent on the thriller writing scene. The Scotsman - “A rarity… A thriller that grabs you by the scruff of the neck from the very first page.”The London Economic - “A wild rollercoaster that’s thrilling from the beginning to the end. A superb thriller where Mossad and the Taliban come head to head.”Reader’s Digest - “Buckle up…a page turner that is impossible to put down till the very end. A thrilling and dangerous ‘What If’ thriller”Female First - “Action packed, fast-paced and filled with amazing twists…great characters too! The Führer’s Prophecy is the perfect sequel to the perfect debut, the political thriller, The Counterfeit Candidate.”Stories SWNS - “With this explosive sequel, author Brian Klein has cemented his position as Britain’s most exciting thriller writer.”

4 1/2 Stars - Liking The 1st Book In Klein’s Third Reich Trilogy Promptly Made Me InKleined To Read This Final Book!

I was very pleased with my decision to read The Last Reich immediately after finishing The Counterfeit Candidate.. The Last Reich is a very fast-paced, intelligent thriller that not only builds on the “what if” post WWII world Brian Klein introduced in The Counterfeit Candidate, it raises the stakes with a chilling plot centered on the resurgence of extremist ideology and a far-reaching conspiracy with global implications. For me, the more Klein developed his plot, the more my eyes were glued to the pages and the faster my fingers were turning the pages.

In addition to my enjoyment with Klein’swriting style, he does a strong job weaving political intrigue with historical elements, while continuing to develop returning characters in meaningful ways. Further, new characters are well integrated and add to the tension without slowing the pace.

The only minor factor that keeps me from giving The Last Reich a five-star rating is that it includes a few mid-book passages that lean slightly heavy on explanation and results in some repetitiveness. However, Klein probably felt the need to do this for those readers who didn’t read The Counterfeit Candidate. Despite this peeve, the story quickly regains momentum and delivers a compelling, high-impact finish.

Bottom line: I consider The Last Reich to be a very entertaining, compelling, fast-paced read, very good follow-up to The Counterfeit Candidate. and a book I’d confidently recommend to fans of smart, plot-driven thrillers. But do yourself a favor and start with The Counterfeit Candidate.

Really enjoyed the book and a good way to end the trilogy. The ending I feel could bring back other characters.

The final book carries a quiet intensity rather than explosive drama.

Instead of rushing toward a dramatic ending, it unfolds with a kind of inevitability. Everything that’s been building finally settles into place, and the impact is more emotional than shocking.

There’s a heaviness to this conclusion that lingers. Not everything feels resolved in a satisfying way, but that almost feels intentional, like the story is reminding you that some systems don’t tie up neatly.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
A somber, reflective ending that stays with you, even if it doesn’t fully satisfy.

The last of a trilogy, but can be read as a stand alone story, does stretch reality at times. But in return you get a fun well paced story that will keep you reading as you never quite know how things will turn out. The ending rounds things up nicely and I've no doubt some of the characters will return.

A good book with a great storyline. It’s part of a trilogy but can be read as a standalone novel. The political aspect of the story goes hand in hand with the historical backstory. I can’t wait to read the authors next work.

The last book in the trioligy, as good as the others. You could read it as a stand-alone book but I would reccomend reading the other 2 first.

exciting pace.

Characters are believable and although there are many, the story hangs together in an audacious plot that has an explosive ending.

Not as good as the first 2 but still a good read. Felt a bit like publishers pushed an extra book here but still enjoyed nonetheless
