About the author

Josephine Cox was born in Blackburn, one of ten children. At the age of sixteen, Josephine met and married her husband Ken, and had two sons. When the boys started school, she decided to go to college and eventually gained a place at university but was unable to take this up as it would have meant living away from home. Instead, she went into teaching – and started to write her first full-length novel. She won the ‘Superwoman of Great Britain’ Award, for which her family had secretly entered her, at the same time as her novel was accepted for publication. She is now a No.1 bestselling author with over 40 books to her name.

She wrote dark psychological thrillers under the name Jane Brindle.

The book's title grabbed my interest but It's a straightforward tale with happy conclusion. Perhaps I've read too many thrillers, leading me to anticipate unexpected twists in the storyline. Everyone begins with a complicated life, but ultimately, everything falls into place for them in a seemingly perfect (sometimes almost unimaginable) manner. It was an okayish read for me since I could foresee the ending after just a few pages. If you're seeking a feel-good story with retro touch, this book is a good choice.

I have had reader's block in the last 2 books. Finally this book does it. I bought this book years back. Never made an attempt to read it before. Now that I did, I can say this is an interesting read. Very interesting. I rarely read books set in the olden times but this book captured my attention from the 1st page onwards. The storyline and characters intrigued me to read on. And I deliberately took my time in reading this book. Unfortunately good things must come to an end. But I have no regrets reading this book. Kudos to Josephine Cox.

A Heartfelt story of learning to live with your past .
Kelly knew that, although Barney would always love her , his restless soul would never allow him to stay , but she could never have imagined how his leaving would alter her life.

Alone once more Kelly herself remembering the past in particular what happened in the Autumn of 1877 and how it destroyed her family.

Filled with regrets and wishes that life may have been different, Kelly begins to see that she must confront her past and only then will she be free.

Josephine Cox is an astonishing author. Her writing is beautiful. This story was beautifully told, with such emotional depth, very moving. So many tears 😢 at the end .

I enjoyed this book.
I liked the writing style and the storyline was good but there were so many different plots and characters, it was confusing at times.
I felt that even though Kelly had a terrible childhood, everything worked out too easily for her through the book, like buying the house, building the business, find love etc.

It was a nice read. It was as if reading through a soft filter though. Everyone had emotions but they gently professed and acted upon them and things happened but it was as if you heard about it rather than saw it happen. My emotions were safe, as a reader.
