In the heart of Mississippi, Matt Grant, a straight-laced southern gentleman, finds himself ensnared in a web of deception after being wrongfully accused of the state’s largest burglary. As he navigates the fallout from his ex-wife Sheila and the sinister allegations coupled with the influence of his former father-in-law—a powerful town benefactor—Matt’s trust in the justice system crumbles. Facing mounting charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, he takes an Alford Plea, maintaining his innocence while serving time for a crime he didn’t commit. Released but forever changed, Matt grapples with the shadows of his past and the millions rumored to be stashed as “culvert money.” As he strives to reconnect with his ailing mother and daughter, the question was he truly innocent, or the mastermind behind the audacious heist? In this suspense novel, based on real life events you will find a tale where good can wear a wicked disguise, Matt must confront the dark secrets of his own soul and accept that some questions might always remain unanswered.
As an avid reader this book had me on edge until the end as the riveting details unfolded in it. Full of suspense and a look into shady politics in a small southern town, it’s a great read and even thought provoking since it’s based on real life events. Highly recommend!
This was a mind-blowing read that will have you turning the pages quickly! It really makes you wonder how many other innocent people have been set up and blamed for something they absolutely didn’t do. This is a story of the “who you know” justice system that unfortunately was based on true accounts. I’m anxiously awaiting author Matt Graham’s next book. I give this 5/5 stars!
This is based on a true life event that happened in a town near my own…which made this incredibly interesting. Due to that, I read it quickly and it held my interest.
However, I wished there would have been more details in spots. It was vague and lacked a full reader experience.
Overall, it was an interesting story and makes you wonder…
