Twenty-five-year-old Alora is set to be married in picturesque Romania to her dream man, Cal. He is a wealthy CEO from New York and seemingly perfect in nearly every way. Her life is finally coming together, and she couldn't be happier.
That is–until she’s murdered.
She awakens in the dark caves of another world and quickly realizes she is not alone in the darkness. This world is not like Earth, and she comes face-to-face with monsters and those with supernatural powers who want to hunt her.
She finds herself falling in love with the people of this new world–feeling more at home than in her previous life. As she tries to adjust to her new life, it becomes obvious that fate has played a role and that a life of comfort will not be an option.
She is forced to become stronger and learn how to survive. Rune, the dark and brooding man who makes it very clear that he hates her, is assigned to train her. Will they tear each other apart or learn to work together?
Just when she thinks things cannot be worse, she discovers that a tyrant rules over this world, and he’s on a mission to destroy her.
Can she survive the hunt?
Will she become strong enough?
How will she protect those she loves?
But the question she wants to know most of all…
Is she destined to save this new world, or will she die trying?
I wanna start by saying I’m honored to receive this ARC for this amazing story thank you so much M.H. Bird for allowing me to be one of your ARC readers.
5 star ⭐️ read
If I had to use one word to describe this book it would be ( Magical )I absolutely loved this! This book is every fantasy reader's dream.
It’s a story that’s combined with the modern world and a magical world. It’s packed with adventure and learning things which is basically what she’s experiencing once things start to happen. Alora gets pulled into this world that has her questioning things but at the same time, she grows and finds her strength it’s such a beautiful story that’s told from her pov. The way she explains things to a particular character was one of the cutest things that I ever saw in a book.
It’s almost like you’re experiencing it with her every step of the way. The found family in this is simply amazing!! I love the side characters just as much as the main characters. ( Vilde ) is someone I fell in love with instantly she’s someone you cannot read about and say I don’t like her because you will love her. She’s exactly what Alora needed in this new journey of hers in a way Vilde got Alora out of her head such as a friend was there when she needed one the most.
This found family made me feel like I wanted to jump into this book and join them lol. The fighting/training sessions are one of the best parts of this book there’s so much going on but at the same time, it’s equally balanced to where you can keep up with the worldbuilding and what’s going on within the situation.
The humor in this didn’t disappoint. It’s the perfect amount of humor for this story. When you least expected some humor slides into serious parts which I love because it made me giggle in odd moments.
Then there’s Mr shadow Man 🤭 I absolutely love Rune he’s someone who gives the vibe of I have my walls up and you won’t get past them but once you do you won’t be disappointed. This guy found his way into my heart and grew on me instantly.
This was such a fun read for me I couldn’t wait to get back to reading it. Once it was over with I went back 3 different times for the last 20 pages. There’s Suspense, enemies to lovers, creatures, magic and so much more in this. It definitely got my full attention and left me wanting more I need the 2nd book so badly!
One of my favorite parts 👇👇👇👇 —————————————————————
“Rune will be the one training me?”
“I’m fairly certain that Rune will attempt to kill me”–I turned to look at Dagr as I continued–“and you want him to train me?’”
—————————————————————
This is my honest review and I’m happy to say I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy
First ARC read. This is one of the best fantasy books I’ve ever read and I don’t say that lightly. The character building was just perfect and how the surroundings were described was so good. You felt like you were in a different world. Alora is a badass woman and Rune you already have my heart. I’m so excited to see how this is going to go, can’t wait for the next book!
I was absolutely BLESSED to be able to ARC read Valice for M.H.Bird! I enjoyed the entire experience tremendously and I am highly anticipating book two!
This story is 100% a solid representation of the MOOD I am as a reader. Valice is fantastical, magical, high stakes, lots of character growth, adventure, with a slow burn romance sub plot. The Mood was perfection! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The setting and or the world building was beautiful as well. This is a book that starts out in the real world & then transitions over to Eogmar (another world). M.H. Bird does a fantastic job with that translation and the characters don’t forget the first setting. Earth is woven within and I LOVED that. She slowly builds Eogmar & the world gets bigger & more complex as the story develops. M.H. Bird slowly feeds you those pieces & the world is crafted before your eyes. It was great! I feel like, we will see even more of the world being built in book two! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Main Characters: Alora- she seemed meek or rather missing something within herself at the beginning but once she was thrown into the new world and had to literally make a choice between survival or to be killed (again), those missing pieces to her character started to fill in. Her growth was gradual & I love that even at the end she still has room for growth! She is stubborn, so very stubborn. She goes from meek to an absolute warrior! The pacing for that was pretty accurate too. She was meant for so much more than her state in the very beginning & I look forward to seeing how she grows in book two! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rune- Rune is made of shadows, darkness, mystery, & he is straight up broody! He is very independent & a loner. He isn’t exactly a hero but he isn’t a villain either. He walks his own shadowy path for sure. In my opinion, he faces most of his battles from within. It was fun to watch him slowly let her into his little circle. He slowly came to terms with his situation but I’ll be honest, I want to see MORE of what he is actually capable of. He has the power of darkness on his side & he has sooo much potential to really show out in book two! Bring on all the shadows & nightmares!!!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Side Characters- Oh, these side characters are some of my ABSOLUTE favorite side characters of ALL time. Literally ALL time! They become family, book friends, and I found myself crafting my own potential plot lines for some of them. They made me laugh, worry, & dream. I loved them all. One did throw me for a loop & I hope he redeems himself in book two! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot/story: this was great, found family, found magic, found adventure, found high stakes, found save the world, found love….y’all this overarching story is great. The possibilities for book two are great too!!! The questions I had were for the most part all answered. It tied up within a reasonable timeframe. There were hard decisions made & I hope they save their world with everyone intact! 🤞🏼
Tropes/sub plots: Sub plot: romance. There was enough to make me want more! It was slow burn and I loved it. I also like the “behind closed door” romance too. M.H. Bird gave us just enough to make it steamy without getting into spicy/smutty scenes. I LOVED that!
Tropes: found family, some forced proximity, fated love, slow burn romance, unconventional romance (not really wanting to fall for each other). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Formatting/writing: This is M.H.Bird’s debut novel and I have so many positive things to say about it! She had GREAT foreshadowing in her book. Little hints here and there to hint to something coming. I LOVED it. She inspired hopeful plot lines for side characters & I LOVED that. (Side characters are important to me!) Her writing was clear, funny, detailed, visual, and she had great pacing. I also enjoyed having a little glimpse into Rune’s POV! She did a GREAT JOB! 👏🏼 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
With this all being said, I NEED book two! Please & thank you! 🫶🏼
The fact that I have to wait for book 2 is going to drive me crazy! When I started this book, I had no idea how I was going to get pulled into the fantasy.
After being unalived on her wedding day, Alora finds herself no longer on modern-day Earth! personally, I would’ve thought I was in a coma, but Alora is thrown into a world of magic and she embraces it. She goes from being weak and insecure to being strong and confident.
Love and romance is a subplot which I loved! It was not the whole narrative. Rune… we love a broody man is the epitome of darkness himself.
The minor characters are amazing and I want to dive deeper into their stories. Holder and Stig makes stig and haldor banter is 10 out of 10!! Brotherly love at its finest. And of course, Vilde is lovely and is like the sister that Alora never had. (made me sad about Tess)
This is my first ARC that I had an honor to read. It had everything I wanted in a fantasy/romantasy book! I loved how by chapter two I was transformed into this amazing new world with the MFC. I could relate to the MFC when it came to her feeling like she did not belong in the world she was from but as she starts to explore this new world and its people she felt accepted. This new world for her offered her friendship, family, and love! Unfortunately with all of that came challenges for her. She will experience pain, many questions, trails, and betrayal! I was excited as soon as she entered this new place. We have creatures, magic , battles , training and we have him! 🖤 The further I dove into this book it kept getting even better. At one point I wanted to know more about this man and his pov. I wanted in his mind. Was I going to get it? You must read to find out! 😉 I love how the author did not over complicate the world building or magic system. It was easy to understand and grasp. She also gave amazing descriptions of the characters, the towns , the creatures and the landscape! At the end I had a feeling where it was going but it also surprised me! I felt many emotions from happiness, anger, sadness and even laughter at times. Over all I loved this book and it was a wonderful experience. I cannot wait for book two!! Thank you M.H. Bird for this amazing story that captivated me!
The first thing that popped into my mind when finishing this book was when can I get my hands on Book 2?
This is my first time being an ARC reader and before I started reading I was worried about how much I’d be able to write about this book. However, as soon as I opened the book my worries flew away and I could not stop. I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Alora is the perfect female lead. Strong willed and feisty with a side of badass and kind. Right from the first page you like her.
The other side characters are way too easy to like and never let you down with their exciting personalities.
Most of the book you only hear about the villain, so when you meet him he certainly has presence and I hope we get to see more of him in book 2.
As this is an enemies to lovers book there is of course a broody shadow daddy. However, although broody and dark the male lead is not as stubborn as you would first think and really respects the people around him.
Of course there is romance in this book, however it is not the whole plot and is really more of a side-burner.
The one thing I really love about this book is the female lead is never really a damsel in distress. Sure she gets help, and sometimes that help is what saves her, but often her strong will and stubborn personality means she is the one doing the work. However Alora is still kind, in a way that allows a female lead who is strong willed but also who is vulnerable to asking for help and really worries about her friends. However, her friends know she is capable in ways she doesn’t believe. And this really empowers strong woman but also it empowers finding family in people that aren’t blood. For me the found family trope in this book is by far the best part and really makes you feel warm while reading this book. The relationships between the characters is thought out and overall it is some of the scenes of them all together that are my favourite due to seeing the relationships play out.
My only problem when reading this was that the book is quite fast-paced. Not too fast-paced but things develop quite quickly. There’s no messing around, it’s straight to the point. Which makes it hard to truly fall in love with the world they are in. However, the characters are so well written the love you have for them ends up being enough for that not to be a problem.
Overall, this book is amazing and I can’t wait for book 2 as I’m excited to read more about the characters and hopefully find out more about the world of Valice.
I am grateful to have received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
MH Bird delivers an engaging narrative in Valice, showcasing a well-crafted story that grips the reader from the start. The pacing is particularly commendable; the author knows how to build intense scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat, making for some truly nail-biting, page-turning chapters.
The characters are another highlight of the book. Alora, the young female protagonist, is relatable and likable, with an intriguing story arc and lots of character development that pulls you into her story wanting to know more. Even the side characters are well-developed and memorable. MH Bird excels at crafting clever banter.
The plot itself is intriguing, blending contemporary elements with a fictional world that incorporates old-world Norse mythology. This unique twist not only adds depth but also gives these ancient figures a rich backstory, possibly explaining their presence in the contemporary world.
The world-building was clear and engaging, keeping the story compelling and free of dull moments. The magic system introduced is fascinating, drawing on known elements of ancient mythology while also introducing fresh twists that keep the reader invested. Additionally, the slow-burn romance is well-executed, allowing the story and plot to take center stage without unnecessary distractions.
My only minor writing critique is the author's choice of adjectives, which can occasionally feel repetitive, even within a single paragraph. While the writing is easy to follow and free of major plot holes, this repetition can be a bit distracting. Fortunately, the overall storyline was very compelling and outweighed any minor writing style concerns.
In summary, Valice is a captivating read that blends a strong story with engaging pacing and well-rounded characters. I look forward to continuing the adventure in next book of the Kingdom of Ice series. Fans of fantasy and contemporary mixes will find much to enjoy in this novel and MH Bird will definitely be on my watch list of authors moving forward.
he said, “I would rather die a death with you than live all the ages of this world without you.”
“I have loved you since the moment I saw you. Since I heard your voice, since I watched you smile, every moment around you draws me closer.”
Valice A Kingdom Of Ice by M.H Bird ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow just wow…. I absolutely devoured this book!!! I love how it’s set first here on earth in the present with Alora getting married with her fiancé his friend and her best friend in Romania, to something so sinister happening to her on her wedding night. Waking up in a new world, where the plot unravels and if you love fantasy books this book is for you. Between the creatures the magic with Viking vibes and an unraveling of truths and how the past has brought this present and where Alora fits into everything. I loved the slow burn I am obsessed with both the FMC and the MMC they literally have my heart in a chokehold. Rune wields shadows and is the dark, mysterious brooding type with a strong touch her and die vibes. I laughed so much through this book Haldor I found hilarious bringing humour in between intense battles and journeys across the land. I can’t stop recommending this book I loved it so much. And the ending has me needing book 2 Forelda A kingdom of ice to be released NOW!!

👑 This was my first ARC and I feel so honored that I had the chance to read it . I don’t usually read fantasy but I’m glad that I read this because I really loved it, it was so well written and so interesting and intriguing.
⚡️The construction of the characters and the world they live in was amazing and detailed, I almost felt like I was there living the story with them. I adore Alora and identify so much with her, but my favorite character will remain Rune, I love him with all my heart and he has a special place on my book boyfriends list🙈❤️ And I loved the connection between them.
🏰 The storyline was so good and well thought. The transition from the real world to the fantasy one was very well described and not sudden.
⚔️ All I can say now is that if you like fantasy book YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK IMMEDIATELY. Now I don’t know what to do until the second book comes out 😭❤️
“I would rather die a death with you than live all the ages of this world without you.”

Loved this book! I knew from page one I was going to enjoy it. I finished it in one day. LOTS of action with an intriguing storyline that kept me engaged the entire time. Great character development, side characters, including one that I loved to hate. I have a love/hate relationship with the abrupt cliffhanger ending, as I despise having to wait for book two. Of course I will read it immediately when it does.
Holy moly!!!! I absolutely am amazed I was able to get to ARC read this book. I am absolutely blown away!! I am already hoping to get picked for the 2nd book.
If you do not read this book you will absolutely be kicking yourself. Bc the absolute amazing and my heart will never be the same.
Bravo and all the chef’s kiss M.H Bird!!!! The fantasy troup is about to explode!!!
Oh my god, I need the next book immediately!!! So so good, I couldn’t put it down. I’m in love with the characters, with the world. I want to be Alora!! Easy 5 stars for me!!
I was recommended this book from a friend and it was not a bit of me. I noticed that there aren’t many reviews for this book which makes me think that it is a new release from a new author. I really hope that they can take this not as slander but as some constructive criticism.
The book itself was very long, I managed to get to about 500 pages before I had to skim read the rest. Firstly the main character development didn’t make sense. It felt like she was taken and thrust into a new world where she seemed to adapt abnormally quickly. She could use powers, fight, go on her own missions, take down monsters and creatures when she was literally just a girl from New York within a what felt like a few weeks. There needed to be some sort of slower development to make this feel more accurate and real. As a reader, we escape reality and thrust ourselves into books, but these books need to have that sense of reality that comes with them. They need to make sense.
I don’t want to go over too many negatives however another huge thing I noticed with the book is that yes it was fast paced and this can be seen as a good thing but it’s like the author was cramming so much in the book that they have seen and liked from other books. This could have been spread out in the series, gone into more detail and shown us a plan. Don’t send our FMC on 3 different missions that in reality, a lot more should have happened. It felt like it was rushed to reach that end point.
The plot of the book was predictable from the very beginning and the only part I felt like I didn’t see coming was Nic and Dagr. ( no spoilers if you know you know). I will praise the author for this scene however this book is recycled ideas that lacked that individuality and originality it needed. Also the writing was extremely amateur but that’s to be expected from a new author.
It can be very difficult to create a book. It’s a huge achievement in itself and they should be proud of that. Creating a book with 700+ pages is crazy especially in a fantasy book. I really hope this helps them for the future and I hope they keep on writing.
I had the honor of being an Arc reader for this fantastic book. M.H. Bird brings you to an amazing world full of fantasy and magic. This book it did not disappoint! I loved so many things about this book but the world building was on point, it really helped me visualize everything going in around me. The story moved a long at a great pace that kept my attention, kept me very entertained and kept me on my toes. Our FMC Alora gets nixed on her wedding night and wakes up in a new world fighting for her life. You meet some amazing character's that you instantly fall in love with especially broody sexy Rune the MMC. I couldn't put this book down it was so good and I can't wait for book 2. I highly recommend getting this book... it has fantasy and viking elements that are amazing. Highly recommend 👌 5 stars!!
I want to start this by thanking M.H. Bird for giving me the opportunity to ARC read Valice.
I will say, this was an interesting premise. A Mortal girl about to get married, just for her life to flip upside down. Thrust into a word of magic and monsters.
I liked the characters for the story. I felt they were well written and dynamic, all with different personalities.
The plot twist at the end was something I wasn't expecting.
My biggest problem was the style and pacing. It was heavy on the "I" language, doing more telling than showing. There were sections that felt redundant. The pacing felt rushed at times.
I think with some tweaking and fine tuning, Valice has the potential to be a fantastic fantasy series. I'm excited to see what M.H. Bird does next.
Omg, I loved this book so much. I really fell for all the characters and for Valice. Cannot put into words how excited I am to read more of this world (and to see some more Rune). And the plot twist??? So good. So glad I was able to arc read this.
The plot twist was verrrry predictable and the main character felt very Mary Sue. Like she’s so strong/powerful and her only flaw is accepting help from her friends??? Girrrrl be fr
I wanted to give this more of a chance, but the repetitive phrasing of the sentence structures was hard to overlook and I had to DNF. I believe it has potential based on the synopsis I read beforehand, it sounds like a unique plot, but the redundant phrasing is too much for me.
I can't believe I finished this book! The second book could not come out quicker! Valice was a very well written book that had me captured from the moment that I started it. Alora is a strong, independent female character who will do anything for the people she cares about. I enjoyed watching her as a character grow as well as her relationships with the other people. Her newfound family is amazing and I love them so much! ... Well, most of them, after the end of the book, I'm debating my feelings about one of them. Anyway, this book is an amazing fantasy novel that is fairly easy to follow along with. I seriously can't wait for the next book!!
