Zombies- as if that wasn’t enough to ruin any girl’s dream of a happily ever after.
Reagan said goodbye to love when she was forced to run her high school boyfriend over with her mom’s car just to keep him from eating her for dinner. Now, two years later, and in need of a serious shower, she’s just over the entire concept of a soul mate- or really, any kind of mate.
Well, mostly anyway. When she runs- literally- into a group of boys holed up in a relative utopia of peanut butter and bottled water, maybe all hope in the love department is not lost.
But at the end of the world, nothing can be simple. And with a never-ending supply of Zombies, militia, a psycho-stalker and a cult-like community after her, Reagan is going to have to schedule falling in love between hunting and surviving. Hopefully she can last long enough find out if true love can still exist when everything else has started to fall apart.

4.5 stars -- This is a seriously thrilling ride filled with smart, sassy, sarcastic, and lovable characters just trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse. This reads like watching a TV show, and the episodes are truly episodic in nature, with their own mini climaxes and an overall plot arc. The Omnibus is the ultimate way to get started in this world, b/c you can read the whole action-packed season in one shot. Highly recommend.
LOVED IT! I had been putting this series on and off of, my to-read list, for quiet some time now. I was hesitant and generally avoid novella series. I get in my head they will be short and not substantial enough, and I'll feel unsatisfied after reading. Well, good thing I decided to not believe my silly head and finally broke down to read Season 1: All Episodes 1-12. Let me first say, Holy Sexy Mole, Parker Boys! It might be extremely unrealistic that the girls just happen upon the Parker Family which includes 3 men that are literally gods gift to women in looks as well as relationships:) But I sincerely don't care how unrealistic, I just want to keep reading more of Reagan's story with Zombies and the gorgeous Parker Boys. Reagan is a great lead. She's witty, hilarious, sarcastic, thoughts running all over the place in her head, just like most girls her age. I'm already done with Season 2. I didn't want to stop reading even long enough to write review for 1st season! I'll say their journey doesn't get any easier. It is the zombie apocalypse, nothing will ever be easy again for the group. But they are on a journey to find a safe place to call home and their hearts and souls are dealing with the toughest challenge. How to stay true to themselves and keep their humanity. Especially when the few humans left are more dangerous and more frightening than the Zombies. This series makes all your emotions explode. Happiness, Laughter, Stress, Fear, Fury, Hatred, Grief and Love. It pushes you every which way. So yes, I'm going to pat myself on the back for getting over myself and finally reading this series:) It is amazing!
Season one (with the extra POVs) is now available for your reading pleasure!! If you haven't bought and read this serial series you are surely missing out. Got a little time on your hands? Need a zombie fix? Well then you are in luck. Higginson introduces us to her world of Zombies in a series of short story episodes that is sure to please your zombie appetite. Romance and zombies...what's not to love? I highly recommend!
Few small *SPOILERS* One of my favorite series ever!! An absolute MUST READ! I could not out these books down. This series has everything an amazing series needs. It had horror, romance, thrills, action, comedy, drama, and everything. I loved that it was set up like a TV 📺 show. This author is so very talented. As I was reading, I could literally picture everything that was going on like riot was a movie in my head. I could see all of the characters clearly. It takes real talent to write like that and this author, Rachel Higginson, has that talent in spades. I love Reagan, OMG she is super amazing. She is strong, independent, funny, beautiful, outgoing, and she dont take shit anyone. She's a true female heroin. Her best friend Haley is amazing. I know that if the end of world came with zombies I would want someone like her by my side as well. They have been thru so much together, both, before and after the zombie apocalypse. I love how they meet the Parker brothers lol. It was funny what they were looting for and then got trapped by zombies for a while. Hendrix is the love of Reagan's life and those two have sparks between them for sure. The sexual tension between them is palpable. I love how Hendrix is with Reagan. He is a bad ass but he is also sweet at times. He is fierce and loyal. His brothers are all the same. I love that they all became a huge close family. The Parker brothers are one in a million. They are all badasses. Their dad taught them how to survive before the zombie apocalypse came. They got to fine tune all of their skills during the apocalypse. They try to save people and help others. They believe in the good of people. They fight for family and they believe in each other. They trust each other and they are just an amazing group of people. This series was so hard to put down. I wish it would never end but alas, all good things must come to an end. It stinks, but I'm excited to start the next series with paiges POV and to see what she gets up to on get adventure. Paige is the Parker brothers little sister. They are all fiercely protective of her. Reagan and Haley become just as protective of her. They are all one big family who kicks ass.
This author made an epic book series. I hope that they turn it into a TV 📺series. That would be amazing. A MUST READ series for those who love a good apocalyptic zombie story.
I was recommended this book a few times so I decided to give it a bash and holy sh!t I'm so glad I did what an adventure you get took on with these zombie creatures not forgetting the delicious Parker brothers and the badass duo of Reagan and Haley also along the way we meet more characters that just make the book so much more interesting then as in anything you get the baddies and oh boy I think I've met my must hated book character EVER !!!! So not only is it a gift for survival against the Zombies we also have a fight for survival against humanity "sigh"
A very worthy 4.5 stars Season 2 your up next !!!!!
So I started reading this in the summer of 2020 and I liked it but it gave me too much anxiety (during a pandemic when things were uncertain) so I couldn’t keep reading it. I would pick up up occasionally and then put it back down because I was so … stressed. I actually can’t seem to read zombie books anymore. For some reason I can listen to them but not actually read them. Makes no sense. Don’t ask me to explain it because I can’t. Anyway, I finally finished it. It was really good with fleshed out characters and a adventure like plot. I’m a little bummed that the romance part was watered down. But I will read the rest of the series. Hopefully it won’t take me a year and a half.
Got through chapter 3 and gave up. Got frustrated with how stupid the characters were about fighting zombies, and that the romance part is so slow-burn so as not to even happen until future seasons! Definely reads like a tv show (with complete episodes that wrap up in an hour) in an ongoing season-long storyline.
Took a chance and so glad I did. This book rocked! I loved all the characters. They were so well developed. Starting season 2 and scared some of my ‘family’ will not survive this.
I'm a sucker for a good zombie apocalypse book. Write about a bad a$$ heroine, a plucky best friend, a hard to pick which one I like more ...love triangle and a road trip and I'm a happy reader.
One word for you: PROOFREAD!!! What happened to checking and rechecking your work? This is a five star book, the storyline and characters are awesome, but the grammatical errors are LEGION! There's run on sentences, misspelled words, and incorrect or absent punctuation to name a few offenses. I pondered giving the book a single star, Lord knows given its syntax that it is deserved, but, like I said before, the book is actually good. The plot is exciting and the characters are lovable, all in all I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is an interesting series. It has humour so things don't get too heavy but at the same time they do loose people and there is violence and killing.
The series is a long one and these main characters stories continue for 3 seasons. There is also a spin off series that deals with the sister later.
There is little intimacy. There is touching, hugging and a few kisses but no sex until much later in the last season. The main 2 characters have love interests but due to the nature of the start of the virus and the constant threat there are no intimate scenes until the end of season 3.
Each season ends on a HFN with an enemy thread running through the whole series. Each episode either ends as HFN with a goal set for the next or at times an immediate threat will run across several episodes. At the time I read these the whole series was on Amazon KU so it was possible to read one after the other or complete in a box set. If you start reading and want to get to a HEA you will need to read the entire 3 seasons. There is the immediate zombie threat which is constant but also the series deals with humanities reaction to survival. Often a bigger threat is the desire for power between the surviving groups and these at times use lack of resources and scientific experimentation to control the main threats. Later in the series there is a love triangle situation of sorts for the heroine. It's not exactly a love triangle but there is a dividing force between the main couple due to the interest from another man. There are no intimate details but there is a kissing scene with the other man, but at the time the main couple are not together. The characters are all very different, they have their flaws but they are college age so when they make mistakes and sometimes they are stupid ones I put it down to youth and although they have learnt survival through experience the threat is constant so it's not easy for them to be sensible all the time. There is a good bit of banter between the group and a great deal of humour. There are some serious issues dealt with too and the main human enemy threat is pretty evil.

Every once in a while, I'll read a book based on the Zombie apocalypse. I can't help it, I am a fan of The Walking Dead (even still), and I have read Warm Bodies and every zombie book by Carrie Ryan.
Love and Decay is pretty much just as good - maybe even better than every Zombie book I've read so far and I've read 15 (Goodreads told me so).
Although it is obvious by the title that Love and Decay is a love story - it's not just that. It is the story of a courageous young woman, Reagan, who must make it through the Zombie apocalypse alive. She and a slew of other characters battle some scary zombies and even scarier humans, making us ask the question, "What if this actually happened to me?" They also find themselves in some hairy situations - and do not escape them un-scarred.
Rachel Higginson is a talented writer, who pretty much had me hooked from the beginning. She describes awesome fight scenes, complex characters, and a love story unlike any I have read so far. Her description of Reagan's varying inner turmoils is fantastic - and help to remind us that we're imperfect creatures.
If you are looking for a story that mixes humor (there was plenty of that), romance (this season was pretty PG-13, but Reagan's love-life unraveled organically and was not always the primary focus of the story), action (Reagan and her companions do kick some Zombie and human butt often), psychology (we learn a lot about Reagan's mind, which makes us think about how we would act and react to certain situations), with Zombies; you should give this series a shot.
If you are new to the zombie genre, definitely read this series and skip all the other authors. This "omnibus" really takes all the other concepts and puts them in to one story. I wish I had found this series first as I could have saved a lot of money for other digital books. The writing is good, few editing mistakes, but the overall theme is too similar to all the other zombie books with some pretty typical romance issues thrown in. As I said, a perfect mesh of everything you could expect from a zombie novel -- right down to the mean militia kidnapping and trying to hold the main characters (rolling eyes at lack of originality -- are there really no good people left in the world after the zombie apocalypse?). This story could easily be shortened by 50 percent -- having so many chapters dedicated to both girls expressing the exact, almost word for word, concerns for falling for the boys is completely useless. I began skimming about half way through and did not even finish the story. Overall, it is perfect for someone that has NEVER read a zombie novel, otherwise don't bother.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for zombie romance. And no, that doesn't involve romance about zombies falling in love with each other. It means I love a world in shambles where young people are still able to find love. There's just something so exciting about young love at the end of the world I can't seem to get enough of. This book was no exception. While I haven't read anything in the apocalypse genre recently, this one was devastating in its excitement and romance. The characters are brilliant (I love me some HENDRIX) and the world they live in is believable (for the end of the world). The gore was tasteful in my opinion, definitely on the milder side of descriptive, which I didn't mind. I'm all for the uber-descriptive depictions of heads being severed off, but I don't need it in every book I read. This book was a fun, fun surprise. I loved how one season is compiled in one book so I didn't have to download 12 different novellas. If you like zombie books with a smidge (okay, a lot) of alpha males, then this book is for you. Enjoy, kids.
Have to read this zombie series it's epic. I ignored the call of Spain's sea and sand to read this brilliant series. Kindle one click made me read the entire series while on holidays in Spain. An epic adventure filled with lust, love, blood, kisses, zombies, action, suspense, intrigue, fear and resilience.
My first encounter with zombies and I'm hooked. Follow this bi-weekly released story or like me (I like completed stories or large installments) buy this bargain priced omnibus to get you going. Such a strange out there alternate world but hey, that's fantasy.
I had no high hopes for this book due to the cover art... what is it they say? Never judge a book by its cover. So accurate in this case! Fantastic action, great characters and epic zombie battles!
