I have such mixed feelings about this book. For the most part, I really disliked the writing style and word choices—it all felt off to me. Based on the marketing, I expected it to be a complete flip book, not just 90 pages before transitioning into a regular format.

I thought the ending was the strongest part of the book, even though it was quite predictable. The section where they are in the mountains felt very rushed to me. I couldn’t understand how emotions could shift so abruptly in that particular situation. The interactions between the characters also felt unnatural.

It wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but it wasn’t the worst either. That said, I think it could have benefited from more thorough editing.

Dit boek is er eentje totaal uit mijn comfort zone, maar heeft mij ook totaal verrast in goede zin 🫶🏻

Het verhaal gaat over Dylan en Holly, die elkaar op school campus ontmoeten en ze zijn opslag verliefd op elkaar. Het verhaal zit erg goed in elkaar , met een goede balans tussen spanning, romantiek , feelgood en zoveel meer. Wat ik erg leuk vond is dat je het vanuit beide POV ziet, en dat er als je een gedeelte hebt afgerond van eentje , word aangeraden om eerst het deel te lezen vanuit de andere pov, zodat je beide kanten goed kon begrijpen voordat je verder ging lezen. Zo kreeg je echt meer begrip voor de keuze die de beide maken en de manier waarop ze beide zijn opgevoed en leven.

Het was de eerste keer voor mij dat ik een flip-over boek las. Hiermee word bedoeld dat we twee boeken in 1 boek zitten en dat je het boek omdraait om vanuit de andere personage te lezen. Vond dit echt geweldig en ook super leuk gedaan!

De schrijfstijl vond ik erg fijn, en het las makkelijk en vlot weg. Het je zeker een boek waarvan je denkt, ik wil dit door lezen, kiest hij voor de liefde en niet voor z’n familie of kiest zij voor een heel ander soort leven.

Al met al enorm genoten van dit uit mijn comfort zone boek, en zeker een aanrader voor mensen die houden van spanning, romantiek en plottwisten, en een beetje veel good vibes

I had high hopes for this book, which fell incredibly short. It reads like a wattpad book, grammar and spelling mistakes included. The opposite POVs was what had me so interested, but you don't even get the full story before being forced to read the other POV.
The timing of the story felt incredibly rushed at the end, to boot. Overall, just disappointed

Read this book for a book club and it was really cool to experience each of us reading the different parts in different orders. However - I could have done without the epilogue which really cost the book an entire star for me.

Het verhaal wordt verteld vanuit twee perspectieven: dat van Holly en dat van Dylan. De twee worden verliefd, maar wat Holly niet weet, is dat Dylan uit een familie komt die zich voorbereidt op het einde van de wereld. Wanneer Dylan er echt van overtuigd raakt dat het zover is, neemt hij een drastisch besluit: hij sluit Holly tegen haar wil op, uit bescherming, volgens hem...

Wat ik meteen heel leuk vond, was dat je zelf kunt kiezen met welk perspectief je begint. Dat maakt het boek lekker speels en origineel! Zelf begon ik met Holly’s kant van het verhaal, gevolgd door Dylan, en sloot af met beide verhalen op de berg.

Vanaf het begin zat ik goed in het verhaal. Wel vond ik dat de twee perspectieven soms iets teveel overlap hadden, logisch natuurlijk, want Holly en Dylan maken veel samen mee, maar daardoor had het voor mij iets compacter gemogen. Daarentegen vond ik het gedeelte op de berg juist enorm spannend! Ik had geen idee waar het heen zou gaan en zat echt op het puntje van mijn stoel.

Het boek is ook mooi geschreven, met hier en daar interessante inzichten en lessen die blijven hangen. En dan de epiloog... die zag ik echt totaal niet aankomen, het boek zit vol twists en turns! Wat ik ook verrassend interessant vond, was het kijkje in de wereld van doomsday preppers. Daar had ik me nooit echt in verdiept, maar het was fascinerend om over hun gedachtegang te lezen.

Al met al een erg interessant en origineel boek dat ik zeker zou aanraden! Ik heb het boek 4 sterren gegeven✨️

Ik ging met vrij hoge verwachtingen dit boek in, omdat ik echt een grote fan ben van Sandra J Paul haar andere boeken. Helaas viel het voor mij een beetje tegen, maar dat kan helemaal aan mij liggen.

Als eerste is het flipover aspect in dit boek wat anders uitgevoerd dan in de andere boeken. Je wordt als lezer aangemoedigd om wat vaker heen en weer te springen tussen de POVs in plaats van net voor het einde te wisselen. Ik denk dat ik liever eerst de ene kant, en dan pas de andere kant zou gelezen hebben. Al liet deze manier van wisselen wel toe om de beide kanten meer te vergelijken. Misschien had ik ook net iets meer verschillen verwacht tussen de twee standpunten, meer ongelijkheden, eigen waarheden, … zoals in Dead Girls Don’t Talk en Mijn Waarheid. Nog een verschil met de andere boeken is dat de ontknoping, die je dus niet eerst afwisselend leest, vrij lang is (100 pagina’s ongeveer).
Alles gaat ook vrij snel. Er zitten grote tijdsprongen in, waardoor ik wat diepgang miste in zowel het verhaal als de verdere ontwikkeling van de personages. De wissels in hun gedrag en gemoedstoestand kwamen mij soms ook wat vreemd over, wat er deels voor zorgde dat ik me moeilijk aan hen kon hechten.
Het gegeven is en blijft wel interessant, en het einde had ik niet meteen verwacht. Al is het ergens wel logisch en passend gelet op de rest van het boek.
Een groot pluspunt is wel dat dit boek, net zoals de andere, heel vlot leest. Eens je je er aan zet, vlieg je erdoor. De schrijfstijl was precies zoals verwacht.

Ook al was dit boek dus minder mijn ding, Sandra blijft een auto-buy author voor mij die ik aan iedereen zal blijven aanbevelen.

She's a beautiful, young, and smart girl whose life's goal is to be a veterinarian for big animals.

He's a cult member who is scared of tomorrow's and suffers from panic attacks and anxiety.

He's sure that the world will end soon.

She just lives her life.

Characters so well written that I truly started hating Dylan. I hated his thoughts and his lifestyle. I truly can not understand people like him and have no desire to. Reading his side of the story made me realize that Holly would have been better off without him😞.

However, I didn't really enjoy the last part of the book. The asteroid hitting the earth felt untralistic and a way to quickly finish the story.🫢

I bought this book because it was written in Holly and Dylan's POV in sections. You skip around the book, but can read it in whichever way you choose. The concept was cute, I enjoyed the first sections of hearing how Holly and Dylan found eachother and fell inlove. It is a cute story. The second section was fine but kind of dreaded having to read it a second time in a different POV. Finishing it off, it flopped from both POV within the section. It went smoother and got more information in a timely manner. In all, the story was alrightt, they were cute, but I would not rush to recommend for your next read.

Well, this was a complete waste of time!

I was so excited to read this book because of its unique flip-over concept. But after 90 pages, that concept was already gone, and almost all the other aspects of this book were not great or straight-up bad.

For example:
- the writing was bad, I think most of the fanfics I have read had better writing. It felt bland, superficial and dumb
- the constant switching of layout in every part of the book bothered me, I like consistence. Especially in the last part, the layout was bad, the black text wasn't very clear on the gray photos.
- lots of things felt like they weren't very probable, or realistic. For example Dylan getting the meningitis, Holly immediately knowing what was going on and him still surviving felt, idk off?
- there were mistakes in the book. For example in one chapter, they were refering to Dylan's mom (mrs. Blair) as mrs. Hayes (Holly's mom). This irritated me immensely!!
- the biggest problem of the whole book for me: the TERRIBLE ending. They are finally getting where they need to be, feeling content with what they have AND THEN A FUCKING COMET IS GOING TO HIT EARTH, AND THE DOOMSDAY PREPPERS ARE RIGHT. But still, Dylan and his parents think that the mountain shelter will hold. Yeah right!! It was falling apart when a minor earthquake hit the area, how on (by then unexistable) earth would it hold the fallout after a comet???

In conclusion, the book was badly written, needed MUCH more editing, and had a terrible ending. Maybe I would've given 2,5 or 3 stars if the ending was different, but now it is the bare minimum.

The only positive thing? I think this is the quickest read that I have read the last months/years. But that is also because of the bad writing, it was way too simple.

The poor grammar, poor pacing, and all of the mistakes kept pulling me out of the story. But that TERRIBLE ending?! How I managed to finish at all is astounding to me, but I hate a DNF.
I had such high hopes. Remove the last couple of chapters, marry the protagonists, change Holly’s last name to Blair, and the story would still be appropriately named. But no, we’ve gotta validate the conspiratorial/manipulative parents who gaslight their son and nearly get him and his girlfriend killed. Dylan and Holly spend years recovering for the TRAUMA those lunatics and then they turn around and make them RIGHT?! I don’t accept it.

Somebody call the editor. They need to be notified of the situation. I’ve never read an ebook with more mistakes. Dumb shit too.

Whoever recommended this to me (I don’t recall who it was) you will be blocked if I ever remember.

Flat characters & weak plot twist.

Je leest dit verhaal vanuit twee perspectieven, maar je moet kiezen vanuit wie je het verhaal eerst leest. Zo leer je beide personages, hun dromen, twijfels en gevoelens kennen.
In eerste instantie is het een verhaal van twee jonge mensen uit heel verschillende werelden die verliefd op elkaar worden. Holly is een jonge vrouw uit een open en warm gezin en wil graag dierenarts worden. Dylan is opgegroeid in een preppergemeenschap en studeert om de huisartsenpraktijk van zijn vader over te nemen.

De eerste twee gedeelten van het verhaal zijn tof, en daarna begint de spanning. Helaas zijn er een aantal gebeurtenissen en reacties van de personages die me uit het verhaal haalden. Dat draait in eerste instantie wel bij, maar dan volgt er een enorme infodump.

Het verhaal eindigde wel mooi. Tenminste, ik dacht dat dat het einde was. Helaas gaat het verhaal nog door en dat verpestte voor mijn echt het boek. Jammer, ik heb erg genoten van Dode meisjes praten niet, maar dit was niet mijn verhaal.

The last days of Holly Hayes wist mij meteen te bekoren. Ik kreeg de digitale ARC van Hamley Books en had hierdoor nog niet meteen door dat het een flip over-boek is. Dat vond ik een heel fijne leeservaring! De dubbele POV was een enorme meerwaarde voor het verhaal. We krijgen het verhaal van Holly, die gaat studeren voor dierenarts. Aan de universiteit leert ze Dylan kennen, die uit een preppersfamilie komt en zich voorbereidt op alle mogelijke rampen en doomsday. De twee worden verliefd op elkaar, maar Dylan worstelt met zijn ´geheim´ en heeft het moeilijk om dit aan Holly te vertellen. Tot de 2 samen op bezoek gaan bij Dylan´s familie en plots alles verandert... De epiloog speelt zich enkele jaren later af en was voor mij de perfecte afronding van dit boek.

Wow! When I thought the book was done, the book wasn't done with me yet and gave me such a twist that I was too stunned to speak. After all the things the characters went through I thought great this is going to be the end and I'm fine with that, but boy was I wrong. It got even better, bittersweet, but better. Definitely worth the read!

I loved the idea of reading Hollys POV and Dylan’s POV. It’s what intrigued me about this book. But this book was great until it ended. I felt like the author didn’t really know how to end it so it just stopped. There were so many scenarios I had going on and didn’t expect what happened to happen.
