I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Author That Rock.
Ruby is book one in the Tree of Blood series.
Set in the eighteen hundreds in England, Lady Ruby Waterfield is introduced to the London aristocracy. She was born and raised in the country but the on her eighteenth birthday is asked to move to London with her grandfather to find herself a gentleman to marry. Upon her arrival, she is thrown into the aristocratic lifestyle. She forges her own path, not liking the gossip and snobby manners of the royal class. She comes across not one but three potential suitor for marriage. Nathan is her grandfather's business partner and someone he wishes her to marry. She feels off about him but in his presence she can't help to be drawn to him. There is something strangely disturbing about him. Fredrick is a lifelong childhood friend and someone who she loves and feels comfortable with. Those friendship feelings have turned into love but Ruby isn't sure she feels the same way. Then there is the duke or Druvirro. He makes her blood boil and her heart skip a beat. But his dark past and secrets separate them. As Ruby tries to sort out her feelings, Nathan closes in on her and threatens everything she cares for. There are too many secrets and lies but when the truth comes to light who will be left standing?
This was a fantastic and unique story. It was a historical and paranormal romance. The characters each had their unique personalities. The side characters were just as fleshed out as the main ones. Sara and Gerard were interesting and supportive side characters. Rudy is an independent woman who can hold her own but is naive in the way of the unfamiliar supernatural world she finds herself caught up in. She holds love for two brothers and doesn't know what to do. Fredrick is the guy who was always there. A friend who loves and understands her. He wants nothing but to keep her safe and happy. Druvirro is someone who is mysterious and unique. He comes to have feelings for Ruby and is caught between love and trying to do the right thing. His character was my favorite. I loved his mystery and playfulness, not to mention he is damn sexy. I can't wait to read more about him. The storyline was unique and engaging. It blended history, paranormal, romance, and suspense beautifully creating a wonderful masterpiece. There is also plenty of action and drama to keep you on the edge of your seat and flipping page after page wondering what happens next.
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance with suspense and action threaded in.
I would rate this 5 fangs and anticipate the new release.

At first I was thinking this book isn't what I thought it was. Pretty hard to get into, I felt like the first five chapters dragged on for days. Once it started to get into the paranormal stuff it got pretty interesting. Dating back in the 1800s Ruby being a sweet girl from the county comes to London to find herself in a few interesting predicaments. Twists and turns I never saw coming had me gripping my kindle for dear life waiting to see what happened next. Not to mention the young men in this book, Fredrick & Druvirro, mysterious yet handsome. The ending got me good, begging for more. I can't wait for what the next adventure might bring!

I normally tend to stay far away from historical romances. My background in history makes it hard for me to sometimes delve into the stories without finding myself overly critiquing the historical accuracy or trying to ignore the reality of hygiene and sanitary issues in the midst of a steamy romance scene. I know, I know, I am missing out on some great books because of my hang-ups but I promise I am really trying to tackle it and take on historical romances. After I read the blurb for Ruby I knew this was the book to help me battle my hang-ups. The idea of a plot set in Regency England that combined sinister characters, heart stopping romance, supernatural creatures and Persian mythology sounded fascinating! Once I started reading I was completely absorbed and hooked.

Jettie Necole weaves an intriguing and detailed story of Regency England where Vampires and other unnatural creatures roam the night undetected by normals. The vampires are hunted by magic wielding Warlocks who are Zoroastrians lead by 12 guardians whose duty is to guard the Fire, the greatest power against vampires.

The story starts off by introducing us to the charming and elegant Lady Ruby Waterfield. Ruby is leaving her childhood home in the country and setting off to her grandfather Lord Caxton’s exquisite estate in London where she will make her formal and first introduction into London Society amongst the aristocracy.

Ruby isn’t like most other young aristocratic ladies. She’s clever, independent and curious. She doesn’t enjoy the snobby high society debutantes, gossiping, or the idea that she’s being put out on display as a prize for suitable bachelors interested in marrying her because of her status. However, Ruby doesn’t let the politics of aristocratic London dictate her life and she makes sure to enjoy her time in London. She forms a sisterly bond with her maid Sara and develops a friendship with a quirky handsome professor named Gerard. Life is full of adventure, wonder and so many possibilities but things began to take a dark turn.

Her grandfather’s past has come back to haunt him and as a result he finds himself at the mercy of his business partner, a vindictive vampire named Nathan Vanderbilt. Ruby’s grandfather concocts a plan to get Nathan off his back by offering up his beautiful granddaughter as an enticing prize. Ruby is overwhelmed by this dark gentleman whom she abhors yet finds herself unwillingly drawn to. Nathan isn’t the only suitor who has his eyes set on Ruby.

Ruby’s childhood best friend Fredrick has arrived back in London confessing his love for her while offering her his hand in marriage. Fredrick is everything Ruby could ask for. He’s kind, protective, handsome, loyal and intelligent. However, a dashing and mysterious stranger named Druvirro has swept her off her feet. His touch alone sends sparks of longing that bring Ruby to her knees. Ruby is torn between these two men in her life and as she explores her feelings her world is turned further upside down. She’s discovers there are things about her family and herself that will forever change her life. Secrets that when revealed place her in the center of a dangerous war between Warlocks and Vampires.

The characters are multifaceted and engaging, even the secondary characters, Sara and Gerard, are enchanting. The story has everything a reader could ask for from suspense, to action, to drama, and romance. I’ll be waiting impatiently for the next book there are so many things I want to know and so much more of the story yet to be revealed. I’m interested in reading more about the home world of the Zoroastrians and finding out once the magical binds are removed from Ruby what power she holds. Plus, I have developed a bit of crush on Druvirro and can’t wait to find out what happens to our dark fallen hero. Sorry, Fredrick, but I’m team Druvirro.

Let me start off my review with this, if you like historical paranormal romance novels, this book is definitely up your alley, if you don’t or you’ve never given one a chance, I would highly recommend this one. I usually don’t enjoy historical books, as I find some of the wording hard to follow, but this one was written so well, the era didn’t matter. I enjoyed this story and I am certain other who like paranormal romance will too. It was a fast paced book with love, mystery, suspense, and even some funny laugh out loud moments.

Lady Ruby is a young woman who going to finally be “revealed” social elite of London (the “Ton”), by her Grandfather, Lord Caxton. Ruby is very different from the other ladies of the social elite of London; she was raised in the country and likes the simple things in life. In book one you will follow her through her journey to become a Lady and to meet her future husband (at her Grandfathers request). Lady Ruby crosses paths with four men in book one, Gerard Spenser, Nathan Vanderbilt, Mr. Townsend, and her life-long friend and distant cousin Fredrick Ashford. Who will she choose, as everything is not how is seems.

This is an amazing historical paranormal romance, I highly recommend and I will definitely be waiting for book two in the series.

Wow! Ruby's storyline is so captivating. From the moment you start reading Ruby, you are drawn into Ruby's life and all the characters she encounters.

I've read many historical novels and Jettie Necole nails the time period. I could easily visualize that I was on the streets of London with Ruby.

Every single character is well-developed. Jettie Necole makes sure to bring their personalities to life. As characters are introduced you get to know them through Ruby's eyes, but then you find out things are not what they appear to be. That is what was so amazing about this book. You take the journey with Ruby and get to find out who all these secretive people are and why they want to control her life.

The male leading character Druvirro is so dark and mysterious, and so hot!!!

This book is so unique. I loved it and can't wait for the sequel. I give this book FIVE STARS!

Picked this book up at a signing event and was pleasantly surprised. Paranormal historical romance?! Yes please!

I'll be honest the 1st chunk of the book was difficult to get through, almost too much backstory provided. But once you make it through that struggle (admit I just skimmed and skipped a little) the rest (majority) of the book is a great read that flows well. I'm slightly confused to the purpose of the dream sequences because other than having them, they are not really intertwined in the story.

The acknowledgement indicates the book was initially draft 10 years prior to release, I really hope the next book doesn't take that long. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal and/historical romances, and I can't wait for the next book the series to come out!

Jettie Necole's “Ruby” is the first book in the “Tree of Blood” series. It's a historical, paranormal romance. So far, it is definitely historical and paranormal, but I could have done with a bit more romance. The writing is very detailed and the book is nice and long and has a lot of meat on its bones. The characters are very nuanced and each character is a work of art. There are lots of plot twists and turns. It starts out like any historical romance and then takes a hard left turn – if you've ever seen or read “The Hunt for Red October,” then you might say Necole is a master user of “Crazy Ivans.”
