It’s the year 2096. Maybe world peace is possible, just a few years from the 22nd century! The Russian president boldly hosts a summit of the three superpowers in the world—America, the Islamic Caliphate, and the Chinese-Indian alliance. So much promise, so much hope, but the Russian president…dies.
Was his inexplicable death murder?
One moment world peace was in sight, now world war seems unstoppable. Will the Russian Bloc erupt in civil war, an international war, or both?

So we come to the third book in the “After Eden” series – a series that has grown on me substantially since I read “Thy Kingdom Fall” a while ago. I was not fond of the religious elements of that book it has to be said, but I was still highly intrigued by the premise and caught up in the wonderful writing. Since then however, as the story progressed with Stars and Scorpions and here we are now with Rising Leviathon, I have been more and more immersed in the story, the ebb and flow of it and the terrifically imagined imperfect future…

This is a multi-stranded tale to be sure, with an ever deepening mythology, terrific characterisation and a premise that is not ALL beyond the realms of possibility when you look at our world as it is today. In a future where technology is king and religious persecution almost normal, anything can happen. And often does. Add in the science fiction elements, and you have a blinking good thriller.

One thing I do love about these is while they are all interconnected and the story weaves its way throughout you could pick up any one of them and find a great story in its own right. Every single book has given me something a bit different and a different love – in this case my favourite part of the story involved a wonderful character – Athena – and I also enjoyed the focus shift in the middle of the book which gave it a whole new dimension. I don’t really want to speak too much to plot details, this is an intricate and brilliantly woven tale, with many aspects and a lot of “pause for thought” moments, the type of story that thrills and excites you but also gives you real things to consider about life.

Another thing I love is the plethora of strong female characters and role models – not that easy to do well these days it seems. And I am a fan of the intricacy of the tale, the way the characters all slot into place, the simple yet complex storytelling that draws you into that world in subtle and imaginative ways. Clever.

Overall an enthralling and compelling story and Im sure there MUST be more to come. Please. Right Mr Dragon?

I CAN’T GET ENOUGH
Book 1 of this series, ‘Thy Kingdom Fall,’ provides background and sets the stage for an all too possible future where the Government uses all means available to secularize the United States of America, removing religious obstacles necessary to exercise total power. Book 2, ‘Stars and Scorpions,’ focuses on efforts by followers of Judaism (Stars) and those of Catholicism as practiced in Mexico (Scorpions), to defend their faiths against external pressures: attacks against Judaism by the government of the USA; attacks against Catholics by the drug cartels and the corrupt government of Mexico. In Book 3, following the death (under suspicious circumstances during an official state function) of the Russian Emperor Krutikov, a Russian mob boss, Igor Aleyev, capitalizes on the leadership void to take control. The White and Dark sisterhoods of the religious cult of witchcraft, Wiccan, wage war on the streets and in the alleyways of Moscow for supremacy of their chosen sides. Threatened, the Russian Orthodox inexplicably vanish. The Mormon Order has fled Utah and the United States, forming their own independent state on the high seas in floating cities where they too are faced with a schism. Project Leviathan (self-contained, self-supporting, and fully autonomous cities), in multiple but similar formats, underlies these storylines but must survive Igor Aleyev’s thermonuclear strike to drive back encroaching CHIN forces attempting to take advantage of the Russian power struggle. It is not difficult to choose a side in these running conflicts. Dragon has masterfully set the hook with Book 1 and he doesn’t fail to keep the line taught.

Love, love, love!

Yes, I am a bit partial to this series. As a sci-fi junkie I can't help but enjoy this series, but when you throw in all the complexities of a future tek-world, add politics and religion, you've got a thoroughly enjoyable series.

Rising Leviathan is a great addition to the story and full of interesting characters you're gonna love and some you'll love to hate. Religion and politics guide this series, and if you usually shy away from such novels, I think you'll still enjoy this series. These books aren't preachy and they explore the world on the brink of a world war, all from the different points of view of the politicians and world leaders along with the religious population, the faithers. And Austin Dragon didn't leave out those fringe religions, including vampires.

While the story line is complex, it is easy to follow while still engaging, and it really keeps you guessing, trying to figure out how everything is related. With plenty of twists and surprises, Rising Leviathan is a very thought provoking, well researched book. It's clear that Austin Dragon really did his homework and I think he really kept with the spirit of each religion when creating the characters.

Each book can be read independently, but I'm sure you'll pick-up the first two if you happen to read book 3 first.

I definitely recommend this series, can't wait for book 4!

Rising Leviathan is another fantastic entry in the After Eden series. Austin continues his master storytelling by weaving together different plot threads until the picture is completed at the end of the book. I love how he juggles characters and story threads until everything comes together in the end. It's a nice break from the traditional story telling I typically read where plot point "A" leads to plot point "B", which leads to plot point "C" and so on. In the After Eden series, the story jumps forwards, backwards, from one character, to another until you reach the end and can see how each jump impacted the final outcome.

If you haven't read the first two books in the series, I'd definitely recommend it. You could read this story without having read the first two entries, but you won't want to miss what's happened up to now. You get more background on some of the characters that come into play in this book. Rising Leviathan sets our sights on the Russian Bloc. After the Russian President mysteriously dies in the presence of the other major world power leaders, there's a vacuum to fill his void with everyone wanting to rule. You've got the White and Dark sectors of the religious witchcraft groups fighting each other and the Mormon order, who have chosen to leave Utah and America, living on giant city-ships in the area, but who are soon to encounter their own nightmare. If you've read the previous books in the series, you'll recognize these things as more of the great storytelling you've probably come to expect from Austin Dragon.

This book is built around a world that is very divided on religion, but that shouldn't scare you off from this series if you don't typically read that genre. The majority of the world is firmly against religion of any kind, including Yoga which gets labeled as a religion in this book. The remaining Faithers, as they're called sometimes, are left fiercely trying to hold on to their beliefs without compromise. The After Eden series is a look at this heated battle between both sides and the events that will eventually lead to a third world war. This book is obviously about faith versus those without faith, but nothing about it is preachy or meant to persuade you to one group of another. It's a look at what a world descended into madness might look like.

Austin does a great job of taking events that are going on in our world currently and exaggerating them into what they could be like in the future. It's a fantastic, although frightening picture. I can easily see how the different factions could some day jump to the same conclusions and ideologies that are presented in the After Eden series. The battles between the Light and Dark sides of the witchcraft religion were especially unsettling to me and may be a bit much for some people. While not too over-the-top with gore, there is clear scenes of people depicted as being dismembered. It all fits in well with the tone of this world even if it's not my favorite part of the story. It's nothing I feel is unwarranted or that I would fault the author for adding.

I cannot recommend this series enough! It's become one of my favorites. It's very quick and easy to read, but it always leaves me with more thoughts afterwards about what kind of world we're currently living in and where we may be heading. To me, it resonates as a wake-up call in a very poignant moment in our history. When we forgot how to treat others with respect and love, we lose what makes us human and good.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A TRILOGY! That was my first thought when I realised I was 90% through the book and still nowhere close to a resolution! Still love the story, the characters, the utopian world the author builds, and the fact that you can't tell who will win in the end (if anyone!!).
Unfortunately, this 3rd book also needs some serious proofreading (again, kindle edition), as missing or duplicated words, and sometimes slightly jumbled sentences are a little distracting. Great read despite that though :)

The third book in the After Eden series, Rising Leviathan focuses a lot on Russia, the Mormons and the internal war with the sisterhood of the Matriarch Circle this time. Austin Dragon writes truly compelling books that really grip me from beginning to end. I can't wait to find out more about the build up to World War III in book 4. I highly recommend this series to everyone.

As a reviewer I try to write something from a new perspective than the other reviews. However, they all covered everything. This is an amazing and engaging work. You are pulled into the world at the very beginning.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
