Book Five in the Chess series
Things are changing again for the foursome. Can they weather these changes as they do everything else—together?
Things are changing again for Bishop, Knight, Rook and Jason. Not only is Jason going back to school, but Knight has bought a cottage on a lake several hours away, and none of them are quite sure what it all means for their family of four.
As Knight loses himself in his art at the cottage and Jason begins the hard work needed to keep up with school, Rook and Bishop call each other often to stay in touch, but it isn’t the same thing as all four of them being together.
Could this be the beginning of two couples and the end of their foursome just when Jason was settling into being a part of this weird but wonderful family? Or will they find a way to make it work just like they have everything else?
Sean Michael
Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organising his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and pursuing the kama sutra by channelling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago".
A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.
Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

What an amazing & hot as fuck! Pun intended lol ;) this series was. I'm totally blown away by it. I've never read a M/M/M/M foursome story before. And I was curious to try one. But wasn't sure exactly how'd it come across. Amazingly Sean Michael's has made it work. I'm so attached to these uniquely amazing four guys. Bish, knight, rook & Jason.
I like how they all had their own distinct personalities. And their own strengths & weaknesses. Somehow they all balance each other out perfectly.
I love this story because it reminded me why erotica & romance are my fav genre of books. Because when you find a really good one you not only get a great story but fun naughtiness as well.
This one was hot as I don't know what! Not enough words to describe how heated it gets. But I couldn't get enough. It'll take you a while to cool off after this one. Trust me ;)
Sometimes it feels like could the couples split? Bish & knight have such a strong powerful connection on their own. Then again so do Rook & Jason. Sometimes I got the feeling that Jason loves rook more than rook loved him. Don't get me wrong I think rook loved him so much. But I always got the tiny feeling that rook feels most complete when it's time to puppy pile with all 4 of them he seemed most in his element.
Rook was definitely my fav, he brought so much naughtiness, light & fun. He was a joy to read. They all were though. I loved seeing Jason grow & truly become a man & into his own. Love seeing knight's walls crumble down to get to the heart of who he is. And it was always great to see Bish so strong & dominant holding them all together. He was like the glue that made it all click. Their great apart but even better together. I will miss these guys & their kinky hot debauchery. 5 STARS!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So Knight bought the cottage. Now what? Seems like Rook and Jase don’t quite know how to process that information. In fact, they feel like things are about to change for all of them.
Despite the internal turmoil Rook and Jase are having, Knight and Bish are completely in their own little world. Knight is improving and Bish loves that he’s got the old Knight back. We get to see some more of Bish’s naughty side and how Knight responds to him. Reading these two and seeing their love for each other is awesome.
While Knight and Bish are off enjoying each other at the cottage, Rook and Jase take the opportunity to share something that’s just between the two of them, building their relationship even more than it already is. Jase helps Rook realize that he’s needed, even when Rook didn’t feel like he was.
It was nice seeing the gang slip back into their rhythms, even with their new embankments. Happy boys equal a happy home.

This was just so messy and NO, not the HOT kind mess, this is the kind that gonna make your brain hurt!!! Yeah. Yeah, I know it's my own fault, but I have to see how it would end.
The fifth volume of the ‘Chess’ series is fun, full of heat, and a great finale for the story of four very different men who have now come together as a family. Just like the “endgame” in chess is the stage of the game when few pieces are left on the board, there are very few issues left between Jason, Rook, Knight, and Bishop. They have each found their place in the web of relationships that makes up their reality, the real test of whether they can stick together has come and passed (in book four), and what remains is for them to settle in their future roles, at least for now.
And that “settling in” is, as always, accompanied by a bit of drama, a few open questions about what Knight will do now that he has rekindled his creative abilities, how Jason will settle in at college, and whether Rook can find a place in everyone else’s somewhat rejiggled priorities. Bishop, of course, knows exactly what he wants (Knight first, then the others) and where he belongs, no surprise there. It will also come as no surprise that there is a lot of man-on man activity in various combinations of m/m and m/m/m/m since these guys communicate mainly in the bedroom, and even if they don’t, they celebrate by taking each other to bed. And not for sleeping!
If you have enjoyed the previous books, this final volume is a nice celebration of their love and a wonderful “reward” for sticking with them through all the ups and downs of previous books. If you love to see them interacting physically wherever and whenever the need strikes them, and if you're interested in seeing the chess analogy come to a very satisfying end, then you will probably like this novella as much as the previous ones. While it looks as though there will be more books in this series, and I look forward to each of them, the main story about Jason, Rook, Knight, and Bishop is contained in these first five books - and what a journey it has been!

This is the fifth in a seres, and definitely needs to be read in order. After the dramatic events of book 3, and the recovery in book 4, I felt that book 5 was a bit of a holding zone - with the title it has, I guess I should have worried it was the end of the series, but thankfully, I knew there was more to come.
All through the books has been the indication that Bishop and Knight have a particular bond, and now so do Rook and Jason, so the fact that the quartet is spending a lot of time as couples is maybe as we were expecting - especially if this is the end game ... - however Mr Michael has such a way of getting us hot under the collar when they are all together, that the couples solution just seems wrong. Undoubtedly there is a forward motion in the men's lives, but as I said before, to me this was a holding pattern book, and I am looking forward to the next installment with great interest.

Don't get me wrong, I am loving this series, BUT End Game just felt a little empty to me. There was sex and more sex with very little to none on plot. After the heavy plot in En Prise and in Helpmate, End Game just seemed a little fluffy.
Things are changing. Knight has found that the cabin Bishop has taken him to is the perfect place for him to paint. When he buys the place, Rook and Jason fear what this means for the foursome. Are they turning into two couples who get together occasionally, essentially splitting up the family? Is this the end of the foursome?
I love the series, the characters. I can't wait to see how it ends. This one unfortunately just wasn't for me.
~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Review Team~ This book was hard for me; I hated how most of the book the foursome was separated. These guys work so well as a foursome and it just seemed off and odd without them all together. Each couple worked well together but the dynamics are off the charts when they are all four there. It was a great book and I hate to see the series come to an end. I want more! Characters: well written Sex: yes, so hot Religious: no Would I recommend to others: yes More than one book in the series: yes Genre: M/M/M/M/Romance Would I read more by this author: yes ~Wicked Reads Review Team~

I love this foursome but changes in their lives has Knight and Bish staying in the country house while Knight works. I enjoyed seeing the two couples independently and watching them figure out how to make their foursome work. Ultimately, the all belong together and I loved reading their very lovely and very dirty story. I'm really going to miss Jase, Rook, Knight and Bish.
The fifth in the Chess Series - Whew! I just loved this series (a total of 7 books) - it's like porn with really lovable characters and an actual plot. Who else but Sean Michael can pull off a whole series ménage à quatre?
Six of the books focus on the same 4 MC's. But, the last book in the series, Pre-Game, is actually the story of how the original 3 (Rook, Knight and Bishop) met and can be read first; however, the rest all need to be read in order.
Note that #6 "The Piercer's Game" is almost a stand-alone because it only very briefly just mentions the 4 MC's. It's about Luke (a minor character who pierces Knight, Rook & Jason) and Temple. A lovely story but could be read separately.
So here is my planned re-reading order: #7 - Pre-Game #1 - Opening Moves #2 - Middle Game #3 - En Prise #4 - Helpmate #5 - End-Game #6 - The Piercer's Game
This took a long time for me to get through and I ended up skimming. I think if I hadn’t read the series back to back I would have enjoyed more. But the story line got boring, but the smut scale is high.
Wow!!! So much love and passion. What I really loved about this was how you don’t know how their relationships will go until the end. Love these guys so much.
I am so sad this series has come to an end!! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea because of the sheer volume of wicked, kinky and downright delicious sex but this series was one of my naughty don’t need to concentrate on the plot too much secrets.
I have immensely enjoyed my time with these 4 men. They are all very different, they all needed and gave very different things to the relationship but they were all required to make the relationship work. From the moment they took Jase in, in book 1, you knew it was going to work.
I was trying to work out who of the 4 was my favourite but it is just impossible. Bishop with his take charge Dom attitude who kept them all grounded and always seemed to know what each of them needed. Knight with his manic and consuming passion for art, that in this book returns after he is fully recovered from his accident. Rook who needs to be adored and has so much love for the other 3. Jase who came in late to the group but is just what they needed and who has fallen so in love with Rook.
This is the story of life after Knights recovery. It finds them at a crossroads as Knight has bought a cottage to immerse himself in his painting. Jase is back at school and adjusting to all the work that involves. Rook is bored with his shop and Bishop is trying to keep them all together whilst meeting all their individual needs.
It would not be a Sean Michael story without lots and lots of hot sex....and oh boy is the sex hot!!! Erm, and kinky! What better way to ground Knight than with a scene involving fisting! If you have enjoyed the previous four books this one will be bitter sweet...as we get to spend more time with the guys but at the end of it we have to say goodbye.
My, how things can change between one book to the next! Knight has recovered and in doing so, found his art again. The catch? His muse is attached to the beach house he’s just bought outside of the city and he plans to go there alone. While Bishop manages to tail along with Knight, Jason and Rook are left at home while Jason begins working towards a degree in physio. The men all still love each other but long distance relationships are hard between two people, let alone a group of four and as the distance stretches between the two, it becomes apparent that if something doesn’t give, they’ll just snap apart.
And this officially ends the story arc between Bishop, Jason, Knight and Rook. Things have changed a great deal between the first book and now though that isn’t more apparent than in this installment. The four main characters weren’t together that much here and the focus instead flips between Bishop/Knight and Jason/Rook. This really threw me off my stride, I’m not going to lie. I’d come to really enjoy seeing all of the men together and with various combinations between them and I wish I could’ve had more of that here. Even when they all came back together at certain points in the story, I just felt the disconnect between them and I hated that. The ending did redeem the book somewhat in my eyes but I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the rest of the series. It did wrap things up nicely though, and I feel good with how this part of the series ended.
We pick up right were we left off, with them celebrating Knight buying the Cottage and Jason getting the News of school.
This was a great end, but it does jump time. We cover months in this one and by the end Jason is done with school, Knight is completely healed, Rook as left his daily running of his shop and Bishop is rounding everybody up.
We start by Rook and Jason equal parts thrilled and scared of the news that Knight bought the cottage. Jason can’t leave, and Rook is confused, he wants to stay with Jason but wants his men as well.
Bishop and Knight spend time at the cottage only to realize they need the four to survive and thrive.
I just loved even after the months together, we can still grow, learn and develop this relationship. And by the end they’ve all figured out the next part of there lives, together. Perfect HEA
Wow..been waiting forever for the last book of this series..It's my fav series but i can't say this was my fav book...and why??..because i knew it was the end....The sex was just as hot as the rest and oh it included Sounds...I love it when the guys use sounds....Bishop and Knight were so damn hot together and Jase and Rook.....The only problem i have with this is it ended too abruptly....and why??..because it finished of one of my fav bits .....But i can honestly say an amazing end to my most favourite series by Sean Michael...totally Hot Hot Hot x
I am a big fan of this series. After the last book I was dying to read this. Knight bought a lake house? Where does that leave our guys?
I was pleased to see that our family of four was still going strong.
I've admitted in other revies that Knight is my favorite. There is just something about him. And while I love the other three the storylines that revolve around him just make me so happy.
I'm also glad to see Bishop is going strong in taking care of Knight, Rook, and Jason.
Since I don't know if this is the end of the series or not. Does anyone know? I am hoping for more! I don't want this adventure to end yet!
It seems things are shifting around these four guys. Lives are changing and as Knight has healed he is still finding his own place back with his art. Jason is growing and while he doesn't want to give up his new family he wants to know he is pulling his own weight and earning his own way. We get to see all four of them be a bit scared with the changes, we see different relationship develop. Love the wrap up to this story where we seem them all reconnect and be strong than ever.
Jason really put me off on this series. I just couldn't warm up to him at all. Every time something happened and he would think it was because of him, Rook would sooth him and tell him that it wasn't but in my mind I couldn't help but think, yeah, it IS because of you...
I felt like he never loved Knight and he was just like whatever with Bishop. With Rook though, I felt like he put a wall between Rook and the other two. The threesome turned foursome had become two couples in the end.
I really didn't like this book much.. The guys seemed to split off into two's instead of the foursome that they are. Knight buying the cottage without consulting all the other guys didn't sit well. And then Rook buying the one next door? I did like that they all came back together in the end but...
I can't believe this is the end of the series. It just ends, much like the others. I kinda expected more. O'well. It is typical of a Sean Michael story, so I'm not really surprised. Just left wanting.
Another 5+++++++++++ read !!! I loved the fact that in this installment of the series we got to see how each of the guys worked as just a couple (Knight & Bishop, Rook & Jason) and how they complimented and needed each other as a couple and foursome too. Absolutely brilliant !!
I admit I was rather grumpy when I read this so I'm going to do a re-read soon and give it a not read all five books in a row and get pissed off review.
