Excellent suspense thriller with a little paranormal vibe!!! Kat Shehata's Drawn to Death had thrills and chills with some really great steamy sex with amazing characters and a great storyline as well. And the fact that Evelyn one of our main characters is not only a talented artist but after a near death experience she now can communicate with the dead through dreams and art. And when a friend of hers Sydney is abducted from her house and killed by a sick and twist man who has been stalking her and leaving messages and gifts, but now his obsession has lead to her death. Now in spirt form she comes to Evelyn to help stop her killer and bring him to justice before he kills again. And the very handsome and totally alpha detective Leo Ricci who Evelyn meant at the coffee shop and then invited to her big gallery showing was all hot and personal now thinks she's a crack pot and a liar who is just making up the whole thing of talking to the dead woman. The chemistry was awesome between Leo and Evelyn and their pissing match at the coffee shop had me laughing my ass off! Evelyn is a smart and tough chic who didn't take any shit from Leo from the beginning and while I loved this big and bad sexy as fuck detective I didn't like when he turned on Evelyn, he acted like a real alpha hole but once he realized the killer was targeting her and that what she knew was totally legit he stepped up in a big way. Plus he was a marvelous lover in the bedroom and very dedicated to Evelyn pleasure and quite dominant and hands on! Lets put it this way.... Leo can handcuff me anytime! A Great pace and some awesome storytelling with a action and a race to the end to find this disturbed serial killer kept me fully invested!! Kat Shehata did a hell of a job and is a fabulous writer ! Until next time Luv's💕💋
I want to thank Netgalley and Kat Shehata and the Publisher for the ARC! Coming out in early January 2023💕💋

Drawn to Death is a book about a medium artist that helps a skeptic detective solve a string of murders while trying not to become a victim herself. I couldn’t put this book down because it was so good. I loved Evelyn and Leos relationship and how they were able to help each other see from another point of view. And how they were both strong characters. The mystery of trying to find the killer wasn’t predictable but it also didn’t come out of left field. It had a perfect mixture of mystery and romance.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a mystery and the growing relationship between two strong, and sometimes stubborn, characters.
I received a free copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.
I loved this book. I love psychic romance so I was so excited to read this book. It was so good, Evelyn is a psychic and Leo does not believe in it. I read this book from beginning to end in one sitting. The detail is what I enjoyed so much, I felt everything these characters did. I hope this author writes more.
I felt like I got to have my cake and ate it too with this novel. It’s a romance novel with ghosts, a criminal mystery to solve, and a lot of suspense. The dual POV (Evelyn and Leo) definitely enhanced suspense.
Evelyn is an artist, who is visited by ghost that influence her art. Leo is a homicide detective that doesn’t believe in ghosts.
A ghost that contacts Evelyn is part of a murder investigation that Leo is trying to solve. They find themselves teaming up to solve the crime (even going as far as fake dating to try to catch the killer). But little did they know Evelyn would find herself in grave danger.
Their relationship is complex and tension filled. The plot has twists and turns. Buckle up for this read. It was easy to get lost in this novel and became an instant favorite of mine. Kat Shehata delivered it all with is book.
Thank you Kat for the advance copy and opportunity to review.
Leo what a jerk, because you cant see it dosnt mean its not real. What a logic people *sigh* Evelyn better off without him. I glad Evelyn can stand for herself make it clear it is over.
“I could never date a man who doesn’t believe in my gift.”
Ofcourse the story not end like that lol. I enjoy Evelyn experience who lead to solve murder cases. Beside that her relationship with Leo growing. Leo slowly believe in her ability and accept it.
"Life would never be dull with Evelyn, and I was ready to take that wild ride with her."
I hope more book in this series!
Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.
A fantastic romantic suspense thriller with undertones of the paranormal where the heroine, artist Evelyn’s work is inspired by her new disturbing ability to see spirits after a near death experience. This ability suddenly escalate and becomes more intense when she sees the ghost of her friend Sydney who wants her to solve her murder. This doesn’t do much for Evelyn’s love life as her prospective interest is none other than Leo Ricci, the homicide detective in charge of the investigation, a man who doesn’t believe in any kind of psychic abilities and thinks Evelyn knows more about the murder than she’s letting on.
I loved the plot for Drawn to Death with the paranormal vibes it gave off. Did I guess who the murderer was? Yes but not too early in the book and the build up of overall story telling kept me gripped throughout. I loved the hero and heroine. Their chemistry was palpable and steamy from the start despite their differing attitudes. Leo’s scepticism when it comes to anything he can’t see or explain while Evelyn is unapologetically open about her abilities and her desire to help no matter what the cost to her own safety bringing them into conflict with each other on several occasions. Once they got past their differences they made quite the team. This is supposed to be the first book in a new series featuring Leo and Evelyn and I can’t see how that’ll work out but I can’t wait to find out.
I really liked this story. Evelyn could draw the dead and she was audioclarient which means she can hear a word from the dead person. Only one word though. There is a killer stalking her and she is going to be his next victim. She meets Leo, a cop, who is really an a$$! He was so hot and cold and then he was just mean and nasty. He didn't believe she could see ghosts and of course he thinks she knows the killer and he just is a schmuck most of the time. Why she falls in love with him is beyond my comprehension. But she does and he eventually lets her down. They said I love you to each other but then he was so mean about her, she told him to leave. And guess who took his place? This really was a good read and I loved how she drew the things she saw. Her persona was pretty cool. I would love to go to a gallery that showcased that kind of stuff. Looking forward to the next book.
If you like paranormal, alot of suspense and a whole lot of steam this book is for you. I absolutely loved Evelyn and Leo. Even though Leo doesn't believe in what Evelyn does and is bound and determined to stay away from her, their paths continue to cross. Leo being a detective is given a murder case that he has to work, Evelyn has information that she says was given to her by the victim that no one else would know has just made herself a person of interest. Can Evelyn make him a believer before its too late, we will see. I absolutely loved the ending, I had an idea who the murderer was but how it ended was phenomenal. This is a new author to me and am so glad I read this book and it will not be the last. Highly recommend this book.
This is the first book I have read by Kat Shehata. The author created an interesting story where a woman medium who has ghost who use her to solve her murder. Leo is pretty much a typical cop in a romantic suspense story. He is skeptical but is willing to listen to Evelyn to solve the murders.
Yes the two characters are also romantic interest for each other so yup sexy time happens. If you don't not want graphic sex scenes just skip this book. That being said the story is interesting and reader will find it difficult to put down the mystery needing it to be solved.
Thank you to Netgalley for advance copy of Drawn to Death.
Loved the dual narration of Sarah Puckett and Walker Williams, both bring out the action, suspense and heat. Perfect.
Evelyn is an artist, and because of a near death experience she now can see ghosts, this now influence her art. Leo is a homicide detective that doesn’t believe in ghosts.
One night a ghost that contacts Evelyn is part of a murder investigation that Leo is trying to solve. They find themselves teaming up to solve the crime. Evelyn finds herself in danger, and Leo finds himself starting to believe. This books has twists and turns.
Kat Shehata is a new to me author, and seriously, I'm not sure how it took me this long to read her since her writing style is right up my alley. Drawn to Death was a thrill ride that I never wanted to get off of, so I couldn't get enough. Evelyn has a special gift of ghosts talking to her in her dreams, after the person is murdered, and while she doesn't necessarily want that, she sucks it up & channels them through her art. Doesn't that sound fantastic?! Leo is our resident skeptical homicide detective who thinks she's crazy when she comes to him with clues after her friend is murdered, so he's not very nice to her which had me wanting to shake him more than once. The good news is Evelyn goes toe to toe with him so he's not getting away with it, and they finally team up to catch this killer. As they pose as a couple, the sparks are flying, but she gets caught in the killer's crosshairs so now it's a race against time to catch this killer before the killer gets to Evelyn. Obviously the twists are coming in hot, so I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure things out before they did as my heart raced like crazy. Let me tell you, I'll be reading everything by this author going forward, and so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
A psychic medium FMC plus a hot detective hero? YES PLEASE! Talk about a kick-ass combination.
Leo didn’t believe in ghosts and he certainlyyyyy didn’t believe psychics were legit. But feisty Evelyn didn’t let that stop her from wanting to solve her friend’s murder, and more so, from trying to catch the serial killer before he struck again. Suffice it to say, Evelyn’s gifts created some tension between her and Leo. But that just added to the sexual tension already simmering between them. On top of all that, having to fake a relationship in order to bait the killer…well, things we’re destined to get hot between them sooner or later. 🔥
The mystery and suspense parts of this book had me glued! I needed to know who the killer was! I had working theories along the way but I loved how everything unfolded.
I also really the paranormal aspects sprinkled throughout the book. It really added good drama to the plot.
Overall, if you love kick ass characters, a good romantic mystery suspense with paranormal aspects thrown into the mix, this book is definitely for you.
A Dual-POV romance with suspense, thrill- AND a paranormal aspect? YES, please! This is technically my first sort of PNR romance, and I wasn’t certain at first it would be my cup of tea. But the steam curled around my face like a gentle caress, pulling me very quickly further and further into these pages with little resistance.
This book is kind of a wild ride in all the best ways, so sit back and strap in before you embark! You’re in for some suspenseful twists and turns, a mystery that you’ll be desperate to solve, and spice that will have you fanning yourself. I was unable to put it down once I gained any momentum, turning page after page until I found myself finished and unsure then what to do with myself.
Drawn to Death truly has something for everyone— don’t sleep! RELEASES TODAY!
I’ve also just seen someplace that this is meant to be book one of a new series, so I’ll be looking forward to seeing more of this author! 🙏
This is my first time reading this author and oh my gosh it was amazing. This story is exactly the kind of book I love romance, suspense, a evil killer and a woman who sees dead people.
“Have you ever been alone and sensed someone watching you? Have you heard someone whisper your name, only to turn around and find no one there What if I told you we’re never alone?
Evelyn had a near death experience and it changed her life. Now when she sleeps she sees the dead. She draws images that are creepy and fascinating.
Leo is a detective married to his job. When she calls him with evidence of a murder he considers her a suspect. He doesn’t believe in that ghost mambo jumbo.
This was a exciting and suspenseful story. I have definitely found a new author and series to put on my auto read list.
I haven't read this author in far too long (long before I learnt the importance of reviews). I won't be making that mistake again in a hurry. It's been a while since I've read a supernatural tinged book, and for me it was just the right amount without being in your face. I found myself glued from cover to cover despite wanting to shake the (real-life) characters a few times. Can't wait to see what happens with this couple next. This is suspense with a difference and not something you'll want to miss.
WOW, this absolutely blew my mind. It's thrilling ,suspenseful,.gripping, dangerous, sensual, dramatic,. A stalker, murderer on the loose. Secret clues from beyond to help find the murderer. It's a nailbiting, edge of your seat, paranormal murder mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and will be looking for more by Kai Shehata. Sarah Puckett and Walker Williams narration is perfection. They both are talented artists and bring all the suspense, intensity, drama,to this phenomenal story. Thank you for this wonderful.listen. #The FlockVip
Drawn to Death by Kat Shehata is a psychic mystery romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Sarah Puckett and Walker Williams. This is the first book in the Evelyn Sinclair Psychic Mystery Romance series.
This is the first book of Kat's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Evelyn and Leo.
I can't wait for the next book in the series Drawn to the Mafia to be released on May 23, 2023, so I can get more of their story.
Sarah and Walker did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like mystery romances, suspense romances, or contemporary romances.
My first 5 star read of the year and I’m so happy I took a chance on this book.
First I love the supernatural twist, the mystery, all wrapped around a love story. It’s mild on the spice but heavy on the suspense and mystery. Plus the spice is actually normal instead of ‘romance book normal,’ which is refreshing.
I highly recommend this read I have high hopes for the next books in the series.
A good romantic suspense with some paranormal aspects. I liked it and it kept me reading and guessing. Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Excellent Story & Narration🎧 A Thrilling Suspense!
Drawn to Death Evelyn Sinclair, Book 1 By: Kat Shehata Narrated by: Sarah Puckett, Walker Williams
This amazing story has it all, the perfect balance of drama, angst, murder mystery, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions, paranormal and romance and this new to me author, Kat Shehata, mastered every one of those genres. I enjoyed the author’s writing style, she created an original story with interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are easy to care about and root for too. Evelyn came back from a death experience with a gift, not to just talk to the dead but for them to talk to her thru her art and gift of drawing. Leo is a homicide detective and for investigations he just follows the evidence and the facts to solve cases, he does not believe in ghosts or psychic abilities. The two meet and there is an instant connection, he has an interest in her art intrigues her, but that does not change the way he feels about things that are unexplainable to him. This did not put an end to his romantic interest in her. When one of her friends goes missing Leo is on the case, but when she claims to have been in contact with her and that she was dead and points the detectives in the right direction to find her body, she becomes a suspect to the murder. She removed from the suspect list fairly quickly, and does some investigating of her own, which puts her in harm’s way, Leo figures that out and wants to keep her safe, he also listens to what she has to say and maybe she will make a believer out of him. There is never a dull moment in this book, it is a cleverly plotted story that is though-provoking, keeps you on your toes and brings you to the edge of your seat. Kat Shehata, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And the amazing narration, Sarah Puckett and Walker Williams did a fabulous job bringing these characters and their story to life. I loved how they took each role, made it their own with a complete understanding of the character and gave each a voice that fit their persona to a tee. Puckett played Evelyn’s role with perfection, grasped every side of her personality, her confidence and bad@assery and Williams did the same for Leo. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, their narration brings you right in to the story and keeps you there the entire time. Thank you for another great listen.
This book was awesome! I wasn't so sure at first. I've heard plot lines similar to this before. Cop meet medium, cop can't believe the mediums craziness, cop falls for medium anyway.... You know....If you watch a lot of paranormal TV shows or read a lot of Paranormal books (my fav!) you will come across a plotline similar to this one. BUT, I have to say, even with the somewhat familiar plot, this book stands on its own very well. I could practically see the pictures Evelyn made. And trust and believe when it comes to art, I know what I like, but that's it. I took 1 art history class in H.S., and that is about as much as I could take. But the way Kat Shehata describes her art, you can practically see it. Also, I find near death experiences fascinating! And I'm a little jealous of Evelyn's art skills & her medium skills. Not fair... she gets two awesome alibies all because she almost died! I almost died plenty of times (In recovery over off of H for almost 5.5 years!) And I never got anything cool happen to me. Granted, If something cool did happen, I probably wouldn't remember it anyways back then lol. I don't think I have ever listen/read a book from Kat before, but I'm already a fan. She is extremally talented and this kind of book is right up my ally. I also really enjoyed her writing style. I'm really hoping that there is a second book coming to audible. I just went and did a look-see at GoodReads and it didn't mention a second book. But I totally feel like there should be another one! A beautiful 1st book has been created. And I'm sure you could come up with 100 good stories to follow...imo anyways. I obviously don't know much about writing. lol. The narrators did a fantastic job also. Sarah Puckett is a genius when it comes to narration. She is one of those who doesn't just read a book to you. She actually gives you performance, and plays the parts given to her by her character. I also think that we share a very similar taste in books lol. In the last few years I've listened to many of her performances, and she has never let me down. Not once. Walker Williams did a great job too. I've heard him in 1 other book (Bloody Union, one of my recent favs!!!) And he is fantastic too. I really hope the 3 of them get together again and do a second book. I think it would be great! If not, I suppose I shall live.... <3 #PinkFlamingo #TheFlockVIPreviews
I primarily enjoyed this thriller with a little paranormal going on. The storyline was perfect and kept me entertained throughout.
Evelyn is a talented artist who can interact with ghosts in her dreams after surviving a near death experience. The ghosts that come to her need her help in finding their killers. She's given clues and is able to draw the victims and surroundings.
Leo is a detective on an abduction and murder case of Evelyn's friend, Sydney. It seems there is an obsessive stalker of a serial killer in Chicago who has now set his sights on Evelyn.
I enjoyed everything about Evelyn's character, her background, her abilities and how she doesn't shy away from them but embraces it in order to help the ghosts regardless if it puts her in danger.
I did not enjoy the romance as much as I thought I would and that's all due to Leo's actions. He immediately mocks her abilities, doesn't believe her and accuses her of trying to monetize off of her friends death. Then once he realizes she knows things that only makes sense if she's telling the truth he starts to believe her and wants her help, they fake date to draw the killer out and then they are saying I love you right after they have sex for the first time? It was out of place since there was no build up and was not believable.
Then asshole Leo believes he's found the killer, Sydney's husband however it's obvious he's been set up and Evelyn knows that from the ghost of Sydney. Leo again insults her and doesn't consider that there is a possibility that he has the wrong guy and breaks up with her since he "can't compete with her ghosts" leaving her with no protection since the killer has been found and she is now safe.
Turns out she was right and now the real killer has access to Evelyn and kidnaps her. The killer sends strange texts to Leo from Evelyn's phone and since they are graphic photos of the murder scenes Leo's first thought is that Evelyn is guilty and needs to come in for questioning. Once the killer makes it apparent he has Evelyn then Leo realizes he messed up with the love of his life. Just can't get on board that Evelyn is the love of his life if that is how he treats her, doesn't support her at all and always thought the worst of her.

Drawn to Death Evelyn Sinclair, Book 1 By: Kat Shehata Narrated by: Sarah Puckett, Walker Williams
Now this is why romantic suspense is my favorite subgenre! Kat Shehata had me from the first chapter and didn't release me until the very end. Evelyn has had a near death experience and upon healing has been given the gift of speaking to the dead and drawing. A chance meeting in a coffee shop has her starting a new relationship with Leo, a homicide detective. When one of Evelyn's friends is abducted, she is visited by her ghost. When she gives information to Leo though, his need for proof and his skeptical assessment puts a huge wedge between them. But the fear that danger is lurking around Evelyn puts them together whether they like it or not. Will he find the killer? Will he keep Evelyn safe? Talk about excitement. This book is full of thrills from the start. Psychic ability is a suspense thriller I love to listen to, and Shehata delivers a fantastic, original story. Evelyn is a strong, independent woman. I love her tenacity and initiative to make sure her dreams are used and helpful. Leo is frustrating, but oh so sweet. He is definitely easy to love, and his fierce need for the truth is admirable. Twists, turns, mystery, murder, love...it's all there and is the kind of story impossible to put down.
Sarah Puckett and Walker Williams know just how to make a story like this come to life. Puckett as Evelyn is strong, a little emotional, but stands her ground with a fierce stubbornness. Williams is the overprotective alpha detective. He is cynical yet gives a broader look. These two also bring the balance of the characters in with voices that fit each one, letting us into the world of the paranormal, and the mind of a serial killer. Loved these two and the listen they created.
Kat Shehata is a new to me author, I'm not sure how it took me this long to find and read her books, Drawn to Death was a super rollercoater of a ride that I never wanted to get off, You’re in for suspenseful twists and turns, mystery that you’ll be desperate to solve, and spice that will have you throwing away your knickers🥵🔥. I was unable to put it down.
"Life would never be dull with Evelyn, and I was ready to take that wild ride with her."
Evelyn has a special gift, ghosts can talk to her in her dreams, after they have been murdered, obviously she doesn't want this gift but she sucks it up & channels them through her art.
Leo is our resident skeptical homicide detective who thinks she's crazy when she comes to him with clues after her friend is murdered, so he isn't very nice to her, which she doesn't let him get away with they go toe to toe with each other..
“I could never date a man who doesn’t believe in my gift.”
As they pose as a couple, the sparks start to fly between them, but she caught the attention of the killer and now it's a race against time to catch this killer before the killer makes Evelyn his next victim.
The twists in this book, had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure things out before they did as my heart raced like crazy. Let me tell you, I'll be reading everything by this author going forward, and I highly recommend reading this series, I can't wait for the next part.
Review: This was a first read for me. I had never read a paranormal clairvoyant trope. I felt like Evelyn portrayed the brooding artist gig perfectly while also being funny and boho-chic. Evelyn was a sunlight in this story with her positivity and cheer, even when she is almost killed.
Leo aggravated me at times but fit the uptight detective idea to a T. His stoic nature and by the book qualities made this couple funny to read since they were polar opposites. I found myself angry at him more though since he was so inflexible.
This story was a quick read that packed a lot of punch. It does end on a cliffhanger and left me wanting more. I can’t wait for book 2 to read more about Evelyn’s gifts.
Rating: This book was a 4/5 read for me. At times I wanted to shake this couple and I felt like I was left with a ton more questions than answers.
Love the plot- An artist that is part-time Medium that channels the dead’s message through drawings and paintings. Stumbles onto a detective who works the murders and abductions in their city Chicago where attraction sparks. Leo is a realist being a cop and all about the facts & Evelyn is a artsy let the feelings guide her type of person.
Evelyn’s friend is killed and here is where she and Leo worlds collide.
There is a constant push pull between the two- from Leo’s scepticism , Evelyn’s family baggage it’s their lust and attraction that drags them to even tempers.
I liked that I was always guessing who was the killer and Ms Shehata made them appear without them being highlighted.
I can’t rate this book higher cos I have no emotional connection to the characters or the story. I was just a witness. The characters didn’t engage, challenge or excite me. They suited this purpose but forgettable.
This is my type of book, romance, suspense, paranormal, mystery all wrapped up into one.
Evelyn has started her own art studio and she is a talented artist. But, her talent came from her losing her life and being brought back. When she came back, she could contact ghosts, but her ability is to draw what they want to tell her.
When her best friend is murdered and Evelyn is contacted by her, she goes to the police to try to help them solve the murder. She only gets clues through her drawings. But, the Detective doesn't believe in ghosts and immediately thinks she is responsible for her friend's death.
Now Evelyn must prove her ability to everyone that she is able to help on these cases, while all the time she is falling in love with the detective who doesn't believe in psychics.
This was a fun, fast-paced read with stalker vibes, just a hint of supernatural aspect, some action, some police procedural and more. It packs murder-mysteries, violence, and a strong, artsy, medium female lead.
There was a bit of romance on the side and it came with some steam—these bits weren’t the best writing, and I think this might’ve worked better as just a suspenseful / police procedural type of read but each to her own.
Overall, this was fun. 3.5 stars.
Audio: The narration was great, Puckett is one of my favorite narrators. I’m still getting used to her accent, when ‘sender’ comes out as “cinder”, or ‘many’ as “minnie”, etc. it’s a very different sentence, but it keeps me on my toes, and her voice is amazing. She really brought Evelyn, especially, to life for me. Overall sound quality was absolutely perfect.
