The Seventh King #2

Crown of Shadows

Rate this book
Has Genevieve found her happily ever after? Or maybe she has found her reason to keep living … until it slips right through her fingers.

In Crown of Shadows, the second installment of The Seventh King Series, Genevieve is torn between her haunting past and an uncertain future. As the dangerous kings of Savengard push her to her limits, she faces impossible choices—between duty and desire, love and survival. Each decision threatens to unravel everything she has fought to protect, and the deeper she ventures into the shadows, the more she realizes how blurred the line between right and wrong has become.

Sacrifice has always been part of her story, but this time, the cost might be too great.

The first half had me giggling and kicking my feet one minute, to wanting to throw my kindle across the room in one hell of a viscous cycle 😵‍💫💀 the CLIFFHANGER at the end though. WOOOOFFF.

I will have to reread this a second time to get all the details as I was waiting for Fable to get this up soo I read this with other books also BUT 😭 WOW! I love that I found Maggie in TikTok and how big this world is already within 2 books and it's her first writing project! 🤯
1: that ending on a cliffhanger. I need the third book!!
2: the background of Genevieve 🤌🏼 I love it. I was just a liittle lost on the original world and it's political structure so may need for context or again just a reread.
3: Kerions POV on things that happened in book 1 😘 beautiful man and soul! I fell in love with him in book 1 and I now keep falling
4: the growth between Genevieve and Kerion overall as a "couple" though it wasn't the original intention of G when starting the book. I'm jealous.
5: the continued world building. So much was added on to get the larger scope of the land and specifically the desert.

I was actually pleasantly happy with less smut scenes this book around. I feel like there was more foreplay/tension and slow burn which was really good. It gave Maggie a chance to show more of world building, political drama, and overall healing Genevieve needed to have.

Again, I'll reread it again (probably now and maybe read Seventh Kingdom also) to catch more so my focus is primarily on it but I'm been hooked since the beginning and living for this series.

Maggie- you need more recognition, this is definitely up there with the SJMs and Raven Kenndys.
Fans- you need to make some good fanart /AI things. I need me some visuals of all these characters.

Love you Maggie ❤️

Maggie Forbush has done it again with Crown of Shadows, delivering a stunning follow-up to her debut, Seventh King.

This sequel brilliantly expands Genevieve’s world, delving deeper into her journey and the complex bond she shares with Kieron. The story is rich with vivid descriptions, compelling twists, and emotional depth that kept me hooked from start to finish. Forbush masterfully balances character growth with a fast-paced plot, making it impossible to put down.

Fans of the first book will be thrilled by how Genevieve’s new life unfolds, and the intricate layers of the world Forbush has created feel more alive than ever. If you loved Seventh King, Crown of Shadows will leave you eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Highly recommend for fans of epic fantasy with strong characters and immersive storytelling!

Freakin' amazing. That’s the only way I can start this review, because Crown of Shadows left me breathless, shattered, and completely hooked.

Maggie Forbush ramps up the stakes in this second installment, throwing Genevieve into an emotional inferno where every choice cuts deep. The tension? Delicious. The angst? Off the charts. The kings? Dangerous, magnetic, and impossible to resist. And Genevieve herself? A force of nature—torn, fierce, and so beautifully human it hurts.

This book is not just fantasy. It is obsession. It is survival, desire, heartbreak, and power, all tangled up in prose so sharp it bleeds.

The world of Savengard is brutal and seductive, and I never wanted to leave. If you thought book one was intense, you’re not ready for what Maggie does in this one. 10/10 would sell my soul for book three.

Genevieve, wow, has she gone through it. And she keeps coming back for more. This book starts out with her now in the desert kingdom with Kieron. Lot to take in here, that's for sure. And she is figuring out her magic.
If trigger warnings have not been discussed, just know check your triggers. This series is very triggering. And I know that soul mates/fated Mates is what is going on. I keep placing some of it under trauma bonding. But this also is an audio version that I am reviewing. The duel narration is awesome. They bring this story to life. Narration by Paige Reisenfeld and PJ Freeborne. They were excellent.
This book was non-stop and then the cliffhanger, evil, just evil lol. Now I must wait for the third installment.

No second book lull!

I love how the second book kept me hooked! I was so captivated by some of the twists and turns! It wasn't a slow burn and had a great pace. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Yesss!

First of all, cliffhangers are rude. Secondly, I loved this book. Every struggle and every reward was perfectly placed. The push and the pull were just *chef's kiss*

I laughed.
I cried.
I gasped.
I cursed.
Again.
And I’m left with a cliffhanger.
Again.
Only this time, I can’t dive into the next book.

This installment takes us deeper into the lives of Genevieve and Kieron with dual POV and dual timelines, jumping between the past and the present.
We learn why they are how they are, the trauma and grief they have endured, and this left me loving and understanding them and their choices.
They have both been through some shit.

There was more world building and politics in this as we enter different places within this story and leadership changes hands, and I couldn’t love the gradual world building throughout the series more.

I can’t say enough how much I enjoy the simplicity of the world. There is enough world building to grasp the scenery, but not so much that I have to go back and reread or take notes for the story to continue to make sense.

I am ready for book three!
