This book was hard to follow a bit in the beginning as someone who's never played a game of paintball in my entire life. Slowly I was able to understand what was going on. A bunch of technical terms is thrown at you in the beginning. Once you start to understand that, the story gets sooooo good. I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would. And I kind of want to try paintball now. Probably not in the same way, but still; it sounds fun.

I love how the story was set from Connor's eyes. Starting from knowing nothing, just doing it for fun for a friend's birthday to becoming one of the best players they had. We get to see the whole journey. The wins, the losses and everything in-between. Leo is a G for being as awesome as he was. Even when he hurt himself.

I enjoyed this story. I had no idea how much went into paintball. I can see how intense it could be. How the team works together to truly become the best. I'm actually looking forward to reading the next story. I'm emotionally attached to this team now. I have to continue their story to see where else this leads them. I can't wait to see where else the story goes.

Side note: In your face Randy! haha

I know nothing of paintball and perhaps wouldn't have picked this up usually BUT how glad I am that I have read it!

Within a few chapters I was getting the urge to go to the local paintball centre and give it a go, the sense of community and banter that the author has portrayed in this book was brilliant. As a skydiver I'm always drawn towards these types of characters (the community spirit is very similar) and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Following Connor on his journey with all the highs and lows was a joy, very well written and edited. The passion and knowledge of the sport and it's players shines through.

This was the first time reading anything by this author and I was not disappointed. I’m not familiar with paintball as a sport, but Matt was able to capture the intensity and drama that comes with players taking it seriously. There’s not a lot of world building unless you consider the descriptions of the area that the game was played in and the conditions it was played under, the mood set. Like I managed to picture a battle field like a war novel. Only it’s a sports novel. I found this quite fascinating given I’ve read a lot of sports romance and fantasy books where both had elements of competition and suspense. I will probably never actually play the game, but this was a refreshing read from my usual.

Paintball and its field is something that I know nothing about but, the Description of the scenes are so specific and it felt real

This is a uncharted territory for me. So that's why I'm just stopping with 4 ⭐

My original rating would be 3.7⭐

Thank you so much for this opportunity!!!

*Pursuit of Glory: A Sports Fiction Paintball Story* is an absolute thrill ride from start to finish! As someone who has never been particularly interested in paintball, I was surprised by how quickly I became invested in the sport, thanks to the vivid descriptions and well-crafted narrative. The authors, Matt Mememaro and team, skillfully bring the action to life, making you feel like you're right in the middle of the intense matches.

The characters are relatable and inspiring, each with their own compelling backstories and personal challenges. The pacing is perfect, with just the right mix of high-octane action and moments of reflection. The story isn’t just about paintball – it’s about teamwork, perseverance, and the pursuit of a dream.

This book is a must-read for sports fiction fans and anyone who loves a gripping, well-written story. I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend!

First thing first, I could never play paintball. This book gave me a peak into this sport, and I could never. It needs not only concentration but also precision and determination. Would I want to try it? Heck yeah, it sounds like a very fun time.

But I loved the story, how the main character decided to give it its all and learn more and went on to find a team who made him feel like he belonged. The images helped. It was a story easy to follow, and I enjoyed it a lot. Recommended if you want to read something different from your normal read.

I had the absolute pleasure of reading this book before its release. Those who know me know I am a huge fan of Matt’s work. I have read all his books and have always commented on how brilliant he is at world-building. However, this book takes it to a whole new level. The tension he builds during each game legitimately gave me cramps… in my butt. Seriously, the vivid description of the paintball field transported me right there onto the field and into the midst of the adrenaline-fueled chaos. I was holding my breath and ducking and weaving as I pictured the players darting behind bunkers, the splatters of paint exploding on impact. Right down to the sounds of paintball guns firing with rapid intensity, the distant shouts of players strategizing, and the occasional thud of paintballs hitting their targets. But he didn’t stop there. You can smell the distinct scent of paint in the air. Matt has this way of creating a mixture of excitement and nervous anticipation that made my heart race alongside the characters in the book. The feeling of suspense and the rush of adrenaline as I turned each page left me wanting more, and I had to know everything there was to know about paintball.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Pursuit of Glory, but it pleasantly surprised me! I’ve never been into paintball, but this story drew me in from the start.

Following Connor's journey from total beginner to a passionate competitor was surprisingly relatable and inspiring. The paintball scenes were vivid and full of energy, making me feel like I was right there, dodging and weaving through the course with him.

What I really enjoyed was how it wasn’t just about paintball. Connor’s struggles, his drive to improve, and his growing connection with his team added depth to the story. It’s a solid coming-of-age tale that just happens to be set in the paintball world. The added colour pages with insights from pro players were a nice touch, giving a sense of the real-world side of the sport.

Overall, it’s an engaging read with a lot of heart. Definitely worth picking up if you enjoy sports fiction or just want a fresh, unique story!

I found this book to be informative and interesting for a person who knows very little about the world of competitive paintball. Matt brings us on a journey into a sport that has a hardcore fanbase and a loyal following. The story itself takes a while to get going but as we deep digger into the story we get to feel the love the author has for paintball. I would recommend this book for anyone has a curiosity for paintball like myself
