His to Slash

Rate this book
When I moved to Red Hallow, I was looking for a fresh start, not a nightmare. But this town has a secret-a legend that stalks its streets in the dark, hunting in silence. His name is Grayson Hale, and he was supposed to be my end.

I saw the blood on his hands, the bodies he left behind. When he pinned me to the ground, I thought I'd be next. But instead of killing me, he did something else-something that terrifies me more than death. He claimed me, then let me go.

Now, I never know when he'll show up again. He watches from the shadows, his presence like a dark promise. Every time he returns, he ravages my body and leaves me breathless...and alive. I should run. I should leave this cursed town behind. But with every encounter, the line between fear and desire blurs.

Grayson isn't just a monster. He's something worse-a man who's decided that I'm his. And no matter where I go, he'll always find me.

Welcome to Red Hallow, where your darkest nightmares come to life...and sometimes, they stay.

Note: This is a pitch black slasher horror romance. The pairing is m/f, and there is a HEA. Please read the content warning at the beginning of the book. Your mental health matters.

This had potential but ended up being a pile of crap. The thing that annoyed me most was the repeating. The author mentioned the same thing 5-6 times just with a different bow. And it was numerous repeatings and then the broken pelvis? Not calling the police? Still having sex but being paralyzed? Seriously, it was laughable on how ignorant it was.
I hate how I wasted a whole afternoon reading this, and hoping it would get better.

Guys, read your trigger warnings. This novel has gore, lots of spice, questionable use of objects, mentioning of cult practices and SO much more.

I think what shocked me the most about this novella is that there is a very strong, defined plot, with a resolution and conclusion. Also an HEA, that’s not something easily achieved in under 200 pages. Now don’t get me wrong there is a lot of spice and it is HOT, but there is also proper development of a relationship between the MMC/FMC. I was hooked on this story, I didn’t put it down and fully devoured it in just shy of two hours. I LOVED IT.

If you’re looking for a relatively quick Halloween novella where a masked MMC has more animalistic ways of communication than verbal (due to his past), is obsessive, possessive and protective over the FMC, and a FMC who starts off relatively clueless and meek but gains strength and awareness throughout the novella and she also becomes obsessive and possessive over the MMC. Where both MCs have inhuman abilities. Then this is for you.

I received this book as an ARC from the author for free, and this review is of my own opinions

I had no idea that I had a Friday the 13th kink. But there we have it. 😳

The plot had a few twists and turns and at times felt like a violent Choose Your Own Adventure. And I mean that in the best possible way.

This story isn’t going to be for everyone but I was sucked in immediately and could not put it down. If you enjoy slasher films and some smutty smut, check it out. You’ll be happy you did.

Thank you Mae, for sharing this ARC of Grayson and Carly’s story with me. I can’t wait to see what you write next. 🖤

I was not prepared for that. Nope.

I’ll get this out the way .. it’s spicy AF. 🌶️

I sincerely hope I never, ever stumble upon a place like Red Hallow. (I realize it's a work of fiction, but you understand what I mean.)

Imagine a gathering of elders experimenting with ceremonies they have no business doing and causing uncontrollable chaos.

Carly arrives into her new home, which was passed down by family, and her life takes a wrong dramatic demonic left turn.

There was plenty of “ whaaa…?” “… da hell is that…” “… oh sh!t..” coming from my mouth

The novel is full of unusual events, but when I got to the end...at about 90% of the story, THAT is when I was officially won over.

That was my final what the f*

Please check your trigger warnings, your mental health matters 🖤

Obsessed with this perfect spooky season novella ! I devoured her in less than 2 hours. And oof was this a good book. I mean let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a masked man? Especially during spooky season. and a fast paced beautifully written novela that’s under 200 pages? If you like dark, spicy, obsessive MMC who’s protective over our shy (at first) FMC who becomes a badass bitch by the end. His to slash is for you😍

With novellas I find that it lacks the connection between the reader and the characters or lacks in plot. But Mae you made both happen! You had such a strong established plot. Character development was beautiful! And the smut was freaking smutting 🤤🤤🤤

I fell in love with watching Carly and Grayson grow Into their relationship. I did however wish we could’ve gotten a few chapters with Graysons pov. I feel like that would’ve been amazing! But other than that little detail I would’ve wished to have. This book was so freaking good! And I’m so thankful and appreciative for this arc copy!

WOAHHHH WOAHHHHHHHHHH!

IT WAS SUCH AN INTENSE AND WILD RIDE! The supernatural touch caught me off guard because it wasn’t even mentioned in the genre . The pacing? FAST. The setting? Dark and spooky. I barely had time to wrap my head around one event before—BOOM—another twist hit, and then another! It was dark but not overwhelmingly so. As a fan of slasher Halloween movies, I’ve seen worse visually, so maybe that’s why it didn’t feel pitch-black to me.

About MMC: OMGGGGGGGGGGGG. GRAYSON HALE😭😭😭. This man barely speaks—like, I swear he only says a handful of words throughout the whole book. I had to rely on FMC judging his reactions just by looking into his eyes behind a mask. YESSSSS, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. It’s not that he has nothing to say, but he’s been through so much—he’s an extremely broken and tormented soul, and he just can’t express emotions like a normal human. I am so broken for him.

The only thing that annoyed me was the author repeating the same lines and phrases over and over again. Every time the FMC confronted something, I already knew what she was gonna say. Her thoughts were just way too repetitive, and that got frustrating.

"I was his plaything, a broken doll in the hands of a merciless puppeteer." Carly, in His To Slash.

This was my first erotica Horror and let me say OMGosh this was one heck of a book! It was good, it kept my attention and there were a few twists that I didn't see coming. This book is twisted and dark! There is a long list of warnings! Here are just a few, animalistic behavior, mentions of child ab*se, extreme and gr@phic violence, and Kn*fe pl@y. The list has so much more. Some of the K!nks are Masked MMC, breeding, seri@l K!ller, sh@rp p@in pl@y, and fe@r Pl@y. So please read all the warnings because this book is not for everyone and that is ok.

** This is very dark, check the trigger warnings **

This was an awesome Halloween read—I absolutely loved it! It was the perfect mix of dark, short, and spicy. The slasher and paranormal elements, along with the mystery, kept me hooked. Grayson and Carly had such a great dynamic, and seeing her transformation from being terrified to embracing her true self was amazing.

You know I love a slasher and this had slasher vibes, so I went and read it.
It had some good ingredients: There's masked slashers, there's a bit of mystery (I wish there was more about the why and how on that), there's a bit of gore, there's some spice and for those who enjoy it: This story has a HEA.

However. The story was repetitive sometimes, there were some plot holes and the ending seemed rushed.

I wish I liked it more, but despite the ingredients, this wasn't my kind of slasher dish.

This totally drew me in, our FMC Carly moves back to her childhood home, the small towns folk seem trepidations and at odds with her. One night she encounters our MMC Grayson, doing something nefarious, instead of running quietly away Carly is routed to the spot, intent on watching. This simple act causes a cascade of events to flow over her life.

Grayson claims her as his own, in a carnal animalistic way 🌶️ Carly is attempting to keep herself afloat after this, leading her to seek answers to secrets. Which just opens a whole new can of worms, on which the whole town is connected with.

The story continues into a dark pit of experiments and sub-humans, from this pit violence, g0re, bl00d and deleting leak out into the very bones of the town. Consequences arise due to these experiments and let’s just say the outcome is not a pleasant ordeal for those involved.

I was instantly drawn into this story, for me it was something a little different from my usual dark read and I enjoyed that element of it, besides Grayson that is 🤣🤣

Here we follow Carly as she wants to start her life over and ends up coming back to her family home that was left to her. She soon realizes there is more to her family history than she was led to believe. She’s starting to uncover secrets that are hidden inside the home and the town. She never thought the missing link to these secrets would be the one person she’s come to fear.

Insert Greyson, our animalistic, possessive and obsessive MMC. He was instantly drawn to Cary as soon as she caught him doing some unaliving. Oh did I mention he was a demon?!

✨I’m sorry but he broke her what during💦✨

I did have some unanswered questions in this book so I’m hoping there is a second book! I would love to know more about the town.

Please be so aware of the trigger warnings for this one!!

This was the perfect Novella to start out my spooky reading season. This book had me absolutely hooked!

Carly was such an intense and incredible FMC. She really grew into who she was supposed to be as the story progressed. From anxious little bee to a full-blown bad bitch. Seeing her and Grayson navigate their relationship slowly with just raw and honest bonding was tense. You realize very quickly that even without words, Grayson was going to be a star MMC. I mean, who doesn't love an obsessive, possessive, carnal, mask wearing book boyfriend?! Sign me up!!
The spice was also very much spicin'! Animalistic and quite literally almost killer. 😅

I do feel like I was left with quite a few questions and wanted to know more about Red Hallow. Hope there will be another book(s) that go more into everything as a whole.

TW: Child abuse, body mods, cult activity, death, PTSD, suicide mention, knife play, obsessive/possessive, stalker, blood play, public spice, CNC, so many more!!

I was an ARC reader for this book. ❤️

3-3.5ish ✨ I’m having a really hard time landing on a rating for this book. The first hundred pages I was fully SAT. Like this book was giving me everything I needed. I loved the eerie dark town vibes, I loved the atmosphere the feeling of the story, the writing and I love a stalker romance, It’s one of my absolute favorites.

Where this story lost me was the second half of the book I almost felt like I was reading a completely different story and since this isn’t marketed as anything supernatural it kinda really came out out of left field . One second my girl is getting stalked by a masked man and then the next second it’s battle Royale in a labyrinth between three supernatural beings. While I remained interested, I was more interested on how the story was going to tie up.

I love dark shit and I’m getting more into horror and I’m finding myself really enjoying that as well, but the FMC dragging herself around broken and beat up because of the MMC didn’t really sit right with me 😭😭😭 like OUCH.

This was totally wild and unhinged, and I can see why people really enjoyed it! I had the BEST time in the first half. Its definitely giving the Halloween vibes with a twist🔪🩸 If you’re looking for something dark and twisted I think this book will hit the spot for you!

Masked men has become a big thing recently and I'm here for it! Also this book has a good amount of spookiness to it that goes along well in the spooky season! Some of the wording throughout seemed a bit repetitive to me but the great storyline, the great smut, and everything else made up for it. I really enjoyed it but do recommend reading the triggers for it. I personally haven't found a trigger that I can't read but there were some dark things that happened that made me cringe a little. I went into it blind as I always do cause that makes it fun for me but I know others have certain triggers they won't read and that's okay so just check out the warnings but I still recommend this book for the spooky season!

When i started this off i was really enjoying it but the further i got into it the more i struggled to get through it.
I think it just felt a little rushed for me, things were happening too quickly for the story to unfold the way it was and i was finding myself going back to read it again to see if i missed anything but i didnt. If you enjoy a slasher style (very much friday the 13th vibes) a spooky read with plenty of spice and of course a masked man definitely give it a go. If you have any triggers check them before diving in.

This novella shocked me in the fact that there was such an intriguing plot that made me want to keep reading in such a short amount of pages. It had me wanting it to be a full blown novel because of how enthralling this story was. This is a masked MMC that literally is more animal than human but is so protective and obsessive that you can’t help being like yup that’s the man for me. The FMC is very bland, to be it mildly, in the beginning but comes into her own and becomes just as crazed and hungry for him as he is her and that is always a fun thing to see in a book. Before you read this though, please check your trigger warnings because this is a gory and spicy and culty and lots more and if you can’t handle that then this is a no go for you but if you can than pick up this book and love it like I do!

RATING: 3 out of 5 Enchanted Roses

REVIEW: Quick, dark and spicy read. Perfect for spooky season. Brimming with fun tropes: forced pregnancy, mask kink, pain kink, stalking, dubcon/noncon.

Cons: repetitive, lacks depth/clarification on the how and why, room for improvement, randomness (ie FMC’s random ass “transformation”).

Happy Reading!

Carly returns to her mother’s home seeking a new start. What she finds is terrifying and the family secrets that should have remained buried.

Grayson is a monster and he is dead set on claiming Carly.

I was absolutely ready to dive in based on the blurb- slasher stalker 🔪 and your darkest nightmares come true! In the end, the book took a turn I was not expecting. I’m so torn between I love that is was out of left field and I’m so confused!

I really recommend checking the trigger warnings prior to reading. This isn’t the cute summer camp slasher you’re used to- this novella is deeply dark and perfect for a creepy Halloween read!

Thank you to the author Mae Celeste for the free epub and opportunity to read this book. My review is being left voluntarily.

Have you ever read a dark book with a long list of TW/CWs, and it’s just there for shock value? It’s just a way of checking the box to grab readers' attention, but it's not utilized well. Mae Celeste’s “His to Slash” doesn’t do that. Though about 177 pages, readers will go on a wildly dark, fully packed ride. And yes, the TW/CWs are incorporated well into the plot.

“His to Slash” felt like it was pulled from some of my favorite h0rror films. It has that vibe. It’s chilling. It’s dark. And I loved the paranormal elements thrown in. Grayson and Carly are unique. But so is “His to Slash.” It's original to its core and the perfect read for the season. I enjoyed it.

This book was everything, I just wish that there was so much more. I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want it to finish. The fact that he was getting it on with her, broke her pelvis and kept going, my jaw dropped. The rawness of this book is everything. It starts right from the beginning and continues til the end of the book. I need another one ASAP

This was a fun novel and perfect for Halloween.
There’s gore, mystery and masked men, a perfect mix for a great story.
Unfortunately I did mis some depth and explanation to the why and how and some things felt repetitive.

All and all a fast paced story with a little room for improvement. Has definitely a lot of potential.

Well, this turned a way I did not expect when I started reading this novella.
I was one of lucky ones who could ARC read this book.

First of: Check the triggerwarnings loves. This is a horror/slash novella with lots of gore, blood and kinks.
A perfect Halloween read if you ask me.

It gave me somehow Frankensteinish-vibes mixed with Twilight aspects (the Elders, sudden powers etc).
It took twists and turns I could not have seen coming from 10miles away.
I loved every bit of it.

That being said: it was somehow repetetive at times and the end seemed a bit rushed (it's a short novella ofc). I would have loved an epilogue with how their bond expanded and their lives unfold.

Overall, great Halloween read & I devoured it!

I fully enjoyed this book! i wish it was a little bit longer(maybe some more backstory into Grayson & Carly’s past & the experiments done by the elders) but it was a super quick & fun read. for those of you wanting to give it a try when it drops please check out the trigger warnings before hand as it does contain some very dark topics!(dub-con, a tiny mention of cannibalism, child torture, gruesome murder, dismemberment, knife play, breeding kink, breath play, blood play & so much more)

I hope you all enjoy it as much as i did 🫶🏽
