Life on the MC frontline isn’t all bikes, booze and broads, especially for one of the most notorious Fallen Brothers. Even in the tiny town of Haven, Nevada, it can be beatings, blood and even bullets. And for Colton Greene, that’s more than reason enough to keep his personal life on lockdown. In his mind, letting someone in only makes them a target and gives him a weakness. And he’s probably right.
But if one person can get under the biker’s skin, it’s bound to be his pretty little tattooist – saving a man’s life will do that.
Surviving on her own since she was sixteen has made pretty little Callie Delaney tougher than she looks and, while she learned early in life that few people - even family - are worth trusting, there’s still a soft heart underneath the bravado. Too bad she's spoken for. And, unknown to the club, by none other than their hotshot lawyer.
Bikers don’t trust lawyers, but sometimes letting them close is a necessary evil. Betrayal once makes for a swift life lesson. There can’t be a second time.
But, with the club still living under the shadow of past indiscretions, is history destined to repeat itself?
For Callie, those MC ties could mean a life of trust and loyalty – or, thanks to someone else’s betrayal, suspicion and death. It’s ultimately Colton’s choice. Keep her close ... or cut her loose.
Torrie McLean is an Irish writer who loves celebrating storytelling whether it’s true life or fiction, in books or on screen. She doesn’t so much write stories as she just gets dragged along for the ride by the characters who live in her head.
Ink, written brilliantly by Torrie McLean, proved an EXCELLENT read. My love for MC romances is no secret. Something about the naturally raw emotions of these rugged, violent men with simple emotions about kindness, loyalty, and love brings me to my knees. Coupled with heroines who are no strangers to pain and loss, women who are understanding and strong, women a reader can admire - these men and women make up great MC romances.
Freak Circle Press authors have crafted and perfected a MC writing formula with stories encompassing a range of emotions. I've become a masochist for the pain and triumph brought into my reading life from these women. Torrie McLean is no exception with Ink hitting all the right reading notes.
The cast of characters introduced through Ink are another group of people whose stories are told in 3rd person. While we never hear the thoughts of any characters we're deeply entrenched in their lives because of the great writing. We feel with them based on their actions and reactions. It's great reading to follow a story this way. In all fairness, for me personally it takes a moment to get used to but once you do it flows perfectly.
Callie and Colton present the main love story. While we progress through their romance we see through the eyes of several other major players in the story with their own conflicts happening as a result of the central story moving forward. Colton serves as the enforcer of the Fallen Brothers MC and Callie a local tattoo artist who works for Colton's old friend, Sketch. Through a series of events, Colt and Callie develop a peace with each other in their friendship. A spark of something that could be when they finally succumb. I won't say more about the story than this as spoiling would no one any favors. It's an experience you must read for yourself.
Irene and I talked a lot about the ending of this book so I'd feel remiss not mentioning it here. In keeping with the non-spoiling spirit, all I will say is that in my opinion, this is not a cliff-hanger. I know people, myself included, want to know before they read about cliff hangers. While Ink doesn't end in a "traditional" way, the story has a distinct ending for these characters, you'll want more right away because of the feelings you've developed for these people and this writing. Not because of an incomplete story.
I'm so happy I read this book, met these characters, and went on their journey. I'm very much looking forward to the sequel. Another writer of the Freak Circle Press, Torrie McClean is an author of MC romance not to be missed.
I read this book thanks to my girl Irene's recommendation. Check out her amazing 5 star review here.
Ink is my first book with Freak Circle Press outside of Ms. Fanetti’s books. There are a bunch of authors who belong to the FCP and the majority write fictionalized mc romance. I’m a big fan of the genre and all the craziness that comes along with it. I plan to check out more FCP authors. :)
”If all his years with the Fallen Brothers had taught Colton one thing, it was that life was constantly balanced on a knife edge.” Colton is part of the Fallen Brothers mc where he’s the enforcer. He’s one scary guy that puts fear into everyone who crosses paths with him. He’s done hard time and is looking at doing more when he finds himself becoming closer to his tattoo artist, Callie.
”She was fast becoming an addiction, he knew that. More so than even the ink that lay beneath.” Callie is a local tattoo artist that occasionally does some tattoo work for the Fallen Brothers. Her hotshot lawyer boyfriend, Michael, is the club's attorney. He’s almost twice her age which creates some deep down insecurities within himself. Having the “trophy girlfriend” to show off is something he’s proud of. Unfortunately, for Michael, Callie and Colton have bonded over some scary stuff that's happened to them. Their attraction leaves Michael in their wake.
”But sticks and stones can break bones that heal, while words haunt injured souls forever.” A lot happens with this storyline. In the majority of chapters there are “flashbacks” some that take place hours prior and some that take place from childhood. These flashbacks build the backstory of INK. It took a little while, for me, to adjust to the flow of the flashbacks.
”Goddam women. There wasn’t enough whiskey in the world.” That quote made me laugh. When I got to the end of the story I was expecting a cliffhanger, per se, because I'd heard from friends that there was one. I wouldn't categorize the ending as a cliffhanger but more like- there’s more story to come. The ending leaves you wanting more because their story isn’t over. Plus a side character has a big revelation towards the end that needs to be explored. INK came out a year ago so hopefully the next book is soon to be released.
Awkwardly, I’m the black sheep among my friends. Everyone LOVED this book and five starred it. So, please don’t let my rating dissuade you from reading this one. To quote Edmund Wilson, “No two persons ever read the same book.” Our own life perspectives and experiences influence how we read a book.
First of all, a shout out to Irene and TeriLyn for their rave reviews of this book,
that's what had me adding it and moving it to the top of my TBR. They'd introduced me to the Signal Bend series, which rocked my world so, I knew that I HAD TO READ THIS!
HOT DAMN! This book made me feel so much...
...and I absolutely loved it.
I'm having a serious book hangover from how GOOD this book was!!
This story takes place in a small town, Haven, Nevada and focuses on the Fallen Brothers MC, a one percent club. It's told in third person POV and works really well at letting you into the minds of so many diverse characters. The plot is complex and rich with layers of tension, emotion and possibilities. There's a lot of history that's covered through flashbacks and the viewpoints of several members of the Fallen as well as others; all of it's important to the current story.
This is a riveting tale...“…life was constantly balanced on a knife edge. The life that came with the patch, the life he and his brothers had freely chosen for themselves, may have seemed like one big show of strength. But really, it was a daily lesson in fragility. They knew that no one was indestructible, no plan was ever bulletproof, and there was no situation that couldn’t get fucked up in a heartbeat.
The main characters are...
“That fearlessness. A confident swagger in his step that oozed danger and yet held a certain air of invincibility.”
Callie…seeming to retain a certain level of something innocent-like yet holding none of the naivety of her youth.”
There is so much going on with Colt and Callie at the centre. These two...I struggle to adequately describe how I feel...it's a rare gift when the H/h have this chemistry that is seamless, transcendent and believable. For me, Ms. McLean achieved that with Colt and Callie.
“…she knew he was still deeper under her skin than any ink could ever be…”
“Sometimes the blood on his hands weighed heavily on his shoulders, yet she had always been able to give him a little bit of something as close to peace as he supposed a man like him could hope for. Somehow she’d gotten under his skin like no one else ever had and, more importantly…He just fucking wanted her.”
I can't say anymore without giving things away and truthfully, I don't feel I could truly convey how wonderful this book is. If you love MC books and don't shy away from the good, the bad and the ugly, then you will LOVE this book!
What I will say is that the ending was bittersweet and hopeful. It wasn't a cliffhanger but rather the end of this chapter and it certainly has me anxiously wanting the next book!

I LOVED everything about this book! I mean EVERYTHING! I got so sucked into the story that I even rescheduled my meeting this morning so I can finish 'INK'! Yes, it was THAT good!!!
A few things to note:
1. the author is European and certain words that are being used on occasion (like 'vest' instead of a 'tank-top', for example) may be confusing to a North American reader.
2. ALL sex scenes are 'fade to black' kind. If you are looking for explicit sex, read another book.
3. the story is told in third person. There are several players in this story and each chapter will have multiple scenes played out that has to do with different character.
4. the ending isn't a cliffhanger per se but a HFN (happy for now) type ending.
If any of the above bothers you to the point that it may effect your rating, you may want to avoid this book and read something else instead.
But those of you who enjoy a great story that reads like an awesome TV show/movie and don't nit-pick for the sake of nit-picking, will really like 'INK'.
Speaking of the ending ... OMG! I had NO idea book 2 was in the works and only found out about it as I was half way through 'INK' [mainly because I REALLY wanted for Sam to have a book of his own so I went seraching for info]. And that curve-ball in the end ... all I have to say is I NEED 'Addiction' ... IMMEDIATELY!
I first read this book back in 2014 and this was my second re-read. I still love the book and the characters but I'm so disappointed that the author has not followed through with her promise of the second book in the series. I guess she gave up writing totally since this is her only book. She was a part of the Freak Circle Press at the time the book was released. This book ends with a HFN and I'm still ok with the fact that the two main characters are together at the end. I just wish the author had lived up to her commitment to finish the entire story with the second book.
I love this author’s writing style. The book was 312 pages and I was totally hooked into the whole book. The story is about the Fallen Brothers MC in Nevada. The three top MC members are Will (pres), Sam (SAA) and Colton (Enforcer). Will and some of his army buddies started the club over 30 years ago. Colton is your usual hard as nails man who can do the killing necessary for the club. He has never been married and has never really committed to any woman. On the other hand, he’s taken care of his Mother who died from cancer and went regularly to visit her. So there you see the dichotomy of his emotions. At the beginning of the book, it is clear his first commitment is to the club and he realizes it is not an environment he wants a woman he cares about subjected to. His emotions change drastically by the end of the book when he is ready to give up his patch and his life for Callie. Callie comes with her own emotional baggage but she is one of the strongest heroines I have read about lately. She was abused by her step-father and deserted by her mother when her mother accused her of being “a little whore” after Callie tells of the step-father’s sexual abuse. She ends up in an affair with a 50 year old lawyer, who ironically becomes the club’s attorney. There are so many twists and turns with the relationship between Callie, the attorney and then Colton that it keeps you in your seat.
...life was constantly balanced on a knife edge.
I jumped into reading this not sure what to expect, just knowing that this book came from the same circle of writers that produced some of my favorite biker/MC reads, the Freak Circle Press. I'm short on time now, but aside from the cliffhanger ending, INK did not disappoint. It was a little slow at first and I was distracted a little by the series of flashbacks in the story but before I knew it, I was totally invested. The intensity of the story took me by surprise. The book isn't sex heavy but the chemistry between the two characters completely works.
She was fast becoming an addiction, he knew that. More so than even the ink that lay beneath his skin. The thought of having to give her up ... He didn’t know what he disliked more – that thought itself or the power it had to set him on edge.
This is definitely a grittier, more violent story than most other MC books I've read. There was actually one small part I skimmed over because it was just too much. I do want to mention there is an element of cheating in the story. That's a major turn off for me normally but without giving too much away, the H and h do not cheat on each other. That made it better for me.
Colton was and always would be a club soldier through and through, but he wasn’t quite the soulless machine others often thought him to be. Sometimes the blood on his hands weighed heavily on his shoulders, yet she had always been able to give him a little bit of something as close to peace as he supposed a man like him could hope for. Somehow she’d gotten under his skin like no one else ever had and, more importantly ...
He just fucking wanted her.
Overall this was a great read and met every expectation I had and more. Solid writing, a great story that pulled me in, and more than one "HOLY SHIT" moment. I'd recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed other quality MC books like Susan Fanetti's Signal Bend series. I'm definitely disappointed with the cliffhanger ending but other than that, this is a 4.5 STAR read. I reserve my right to alter my rating until I come down off my Cliffhanger shock and overall book high!
Torrie McLean, why would you do me like that? That ending is no ending, it's a CLIFFHANGER! I want to weep, I want to kick your ass...that is just so dirty!
I'm going to start my review by correcting statements that this has a cliff-hanger ending. It's really not. Is everything tied up with a wedding and babies? No. But this "story," as it exists, is complete. As a disclaimer I'll add that I LOVED the ending of "Inception," so take that however you like. :) My opinion of the ending (which I won't ruin) should also speak to the realism of the narrative of the book. There is sweetness and love here, but there is also the hardness of reality. Callie isn't as tough as you might think, but smart enough to be careful with her heart. And Colton is man enough to let her be the way she is and understand. I don't want to rehash the plot, but I loved this take on MC life and the characters made me more than "care" what happened to them. Their dialogue was believable and the story pulled me in. The narrative read smoothly as a screenplay; I could imagine watching this as a movie. I loved it.
This is Callie and Colton's love story. Their romance are seen through the eyes of several other major characters. Colton is the enforcer of the Fallen Brothers MC and Callie a local tattoo artist who works for Colton's friend, Sketch. Through out the book, Colt and Callie's relationship grew from friends to lovers. I won't be giving out any details about the book ;).
There are several characters in this story and hoping they have their own book too.
Plot-driven story with cliched characters (I felt like I was reading a script from the Sopranos). The story suffers from overuse of flashback scenes every other page completely destroying any momentum the narrative had. The romance sort of takes a back seat and it is not resolved at all at the end of the book.
Hmm ... so why did I read this one? I knew the author stopped writing after this one. Why else would she put this out in 2014 and then nothing more. Then, I'd also read there was a cliffhanger type of ending. I also saw mixed feelings on this one too, but not sure what that meant exactly. I was intrigued and wanted something new to read. I also really liked the cover. Not sure why, but I did.
You can tell this is a first book. The transitions were a bit clunky and lacked a smoothness, but not overly annoying or distracting. I did read a bit about the author after I finished the book. It makes sense, some of the spelling and terminology knowing now she is Irish. But again, not distracting, just something you notice.
I enjoyed her characters. There were gaps at points, in her story, but I kept pushing forward. I think she could have benefited from some editing, but overall a nice read. I'm glad I took the chance. I hope she decides to get back to writing one day, but if not, a good effort.
Well, the author put a different take on the MC story. When reading this, there were a few parts that were a bit slow, but it definitely picked up and the ending was not your average. I think all will like this one, it shows the real world. I see more coming from this series and can't wait to see where she take it.
Wow !! I was up and down with this book got a bit confused sometimes as there were parts that was going backwards and forwards but I stuck at it and then got into it and wAs a great story with lots of openings and lots of characters with there own little story but I liked Callie's story of how she broke the mean ass biker Colton I am now looking forward to the next book in this series so glad I kept at it was a great read
DISCLAIMER TO MY FELLOW GOODREADER This review is my personal opinion and may contain: spoilers, quotes, rants, cussing (sometimes I cannot help myself) and a possible full on recap. I in no way want to ruin anyone’s book reading experience so please read my words with caution.
Colton Greene, member of Fallen Brothers MC, has known tattoo artist 28 year old Callie Delaney for the last five years. He immediately judged her based on her innocent appearance, but he's slowly changed his mind. She knows when to keep quiet and just be absorbed in her work when she's inking him. Saving his life may have helped progress things. Unbeknownst to the club, Callie's pseudo boyfriend is their club lawyer. She has no idea of his involvement with the club either. Callie wants out. She wants freedom. She wants Colton.
"She was fast becoming an addiction, he knew that. More so than even the ink that lay beneath his skin. The thought of having to give her up ... He didn’t know what he disliked more – that thought itself or the power it had to set him on edge."
God God this book was all over the fucking place. It was interesting, but the flipping back and forth between story lines was rather difficult to follow. The flashback scenes were not super fluid either. The story was good but I would have preferred it a little more simplified. There's just too much going on, but of course I want to know what happens with everyone..
Cliffhanger – yes (book 1 series) POV - Colton and Callie's story
Wow, with flairs and drama of Sons of Anarchy and the Sopranos combined. Ink, hits with all the realism of a MC and organized crime syndicate
How you think its going to end doesn't, so yeah as a new reader and fan....I want more...More of Colt.....more of Callie! If there isn't a sequel to this story or those two characters then that is seriously messed up!
Loved it. I did have trouble figuring out who who when the story changed chacters. I had to re read some....but this is also said because I read to fast to see what happens. I understood the reason to show more that one chacters POV and it was actually nice to see reactions of others during a particular time. Can't wait for more from Torrie and hopefully the next one in the series.I understand why she had to go away but I didn't like it. I can't wait to see what happens with Callie and Colton.....love me some Colton. Sam...holly crap can't wait to hear about what is going to happen with him next.
I really, really loved this book. I just hope the author, Torrie McLean does not fall into the fateful error a lot do and make us wait for weeks till the next instalment is released. I am one of many who shy away from even downloading a cliff hanger, that being said I am delighted with "Ink". Really well written and I was gripped from the first page. This would have earned 5 + stars if it was not a cliffy!
Colton Greene is part of the MC life and has no intentions of his lifestyle.for anyone. The only woman who has caught his interest in more than a bed for the night is tattooist Callie Delaney. Callie is a fighter and when she gets caught in the crossfire though after she starts seeing Colton what will he do to protect her?
There was a lot to this story. Overall intriguing but I was surprised by the ending and was a bit confused by Callie in the beginning of her story. It put me off, will try to reread at a later date to see if different feeling about the book.
Ink was surprisingly good, but also amazingly complicated book to rate. First off, I've seen this book around Goodreads for a while now, but passed it because of the cover. I know, never judge the book by it's cover and all that. But c'mon, that cover is like a typographic nightmare! And it's boring and way too white for this book.
But, luckily I've been craving biker books and thought that I would give this a try, considering that most of the time one does have to go through quantity to get into quality. Good for me! I was pleasantly surprised about this book, and happily so. It's far from the best there is, but it wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. Far from it, actually.
This book is gritty, witty, sweet, a bit rough around the edges, needs more editing, reminds me a lot and also too much of Sons of Anarchy, is written by someone who isn't American but still takes place in USA (and that shines through clearly), has pretty great characters and is interestingly written.
I really liked the characters. Callie is an interesting woman, as she's a 28 years old tattoo artist, who's in a not-so-happy relationship with a 50 years old man. That whole thing in itself created loads of intrigue and questions about the character. She was also well-written, quietly confident, a bit sly at times, strong and independent, sweet and sassy. What I also liked, that she wasn't the stereotype of an airhead bimbo with huge tits and daddy issues, so her relationship with Michael was intriguing and well-written.
All the relationship in this book were well-written, and the script-like writing worked well in this book. It was sort of like reading a TV-show, as the scenes jumped and flowed from one point to another and even though the main character on each scene often changed from one to another, the scenes were very purposefully written and continued the story well.
I also liked that Michael felt very realistic, not too much of a douche or a sleaze, but realistic with his personal life and problems and the way he tried to avoid boring Callie with the details of his life, or how he behaved with his work colleagues.
The biker angle felt way too much like a bad copy of SoA, and I was a bit surprised that the male leads on that lot were not the President or VP rather than Sergeant at Arms and an enforcer. For some reason that made the book feel like the biker angle wasn't researched that well rather than just copied badly from SoA. The president felt way too much like Clay and for somer reason the VP didn't seem to have an actual role in the club at all. I'm still not sure whether the VP was Jake or Johnny.
Regardless, I did like Colton a lot. He was also a well-written character, and even though all the characters had some holes in them (like was Colton's mother still alive or not), I liked the way the showed themselves through actions rather than just boasting around and shooting the shit. I also liked the fact that he was a bit older, in his 40s. I actually thought about Happy from SoA, when I read his description. Age, looks, the club killer.
I liked the dry but witty dialogue, it didn't make me laugh out loud but it kept me smiling throughout the book. Points for that!
Anyway, I enjoyed reading how Callie and Colton's relationship progressed. It wasn't too smooth and it was slow enough, and tactful. They worked well together and I'd very much like to read the next book, when ever it's available.
Fantastic MC book! I love getting what felt like an inside look at the gritter side of the MC world. I also adored the lead heroine, tattoo artist, Callie. Sassy, strong, and wounded, she's a female I could relate to. While she made her poor choices at times, I really enjoyed reading her, and felt she stayed true to herself, and didn't get completely lost in Colton. The bad boy from Fallen brothers had a soft spot for Callie that was hard earned. I loved the pace, and the believability. The two had to work at it, and toward being "something." With plenty of twists and turns and oppositions, Ms. McLean had me turning pages until the wee hours of the morning. It did end without a HEA, but that's not unusual for a book in a series.
Where to begin?? Definitely did not like this book. The author's writing style was not for me and the ending was "not a cliffhanger"...but still not finished. There was very little action in this outlaw book. Also the back and forth in time was annoying, especially when given in pieces. The shift between perspectives was annoying because in the first few lines you had to figure out from who's perspective it was. The author didn't describe much and I couldn't wait to finish it and more on to something else.
It got the second star just because it got better by the last two chapters. Two many characters at one time. The back & forth was just too much. I don't think I'll be reading the second book.
