Allie Wells is many things: Doctor. Runaway bride. Fae.

Except for two huge problems:

She doesn’t believe in magic.

The Fae were killed off centuries ago.

Alessia “Allie” Wells is a woman of science. She doesn’t believe in things like werewolves and vampires, sparkly or otherwise. Until her wedding day, when a darkly alluring man appears and kidnaps her in the middle of her glamorous Upper East Side nuptials, whisking her away to a magical island.

As the weeks pass, Alessia struggles to accept this new world—an enchanting land rife with fascinating creatures—and her place in it. She soon learns of the curse that is holding her new island captive…and killing everyone on it. Only a true Fae can break the curse. Which is impossible, seeing as Fae have been extinct for centuries.

When Alessia discovers that she is the only remaining full-blooded Fae in existence, she accepts her responsibility to save the island, and everyone on it. The longer Alessia stays, the more she falls in love with her new home. For the first time ever, she feels like she belongs. Not least of all because of the intensely powerful man who has slowly been capturing her heart...

But if Alessia can’t undo the curse holding this island hostage, then none of it will matter—because she’ll lose everything she’s come to love.

I’d definitely recommend this book if you enjoyed the tv series “once upon a time” because it was really giving these vibes for some reason I can’t explain 😆 Also if you enjoyed the wedding scene in ACOMAF (if you know, you know) then also give this book a try!

This was an enjoyable read, it was giving cozy fantasy with some shadow daddy aspects. A woman is taken on her wedding day to a mysterious world full of magic and curses. I won’t say anymore to spoil the plot.

The book is on the shorter side and fast paced which I enjoyed because sometimes fantasy genre books just take soooo long to get through and I loved being able to read this in one sitting. If you are looking for an easy read and a pallet cleanser give this a try!

Thank you to LaManna Books and Gina LaManna for the EARC!

Ever find yourself in the mood for a book that doesn’t require a full commitment to a complex, multi-layered fantasy world but still offers enough magic, intrigue, and swoon-worthy moments to keep you hooked? Cursed by Gina LaManna delivers exactly that: a fun, easy read that lets you escape reality for a few hours without demanding too much brain power.

Alessia is a doctor with a perfectly planned out life, until she isn’t. What should have been the most predictable moment of her existence (her wedding day) takes a sharp left turn when she’s taken from the altar after pleading for an escape. It’s all very ACOTAR in the best way. Enter Silas, our brooding, mysterious hero who has his own reasons for bringing Alessia into this world. The Isle is on the brink of disaster due to a curse centuries old and, because clearly life wasn’t nearly chaotic enough, Allie might be the key to saving it all. But as Allie says multiple times, no pressure, right? 😅

The relationship between Alessia and Silas might have felt a little insta-lovey, but it made sense given the circumstances they were in. Their story is one filled with chemistry and trust, making them believable as a couple. Alessia finds herself on The Isle, she finds a home she’s been searching for her entire life, a friend she’s been aching for, and Silas. All of which felt like missing parts of her until she found them. You can see and feel her relief in finding that.

This book is the literary equivalent of "just one more episode.” I sat down intending to read a few chapters and suddenly realized I was 42% through in just one sitting. It flies by with just the right balance of tension, action, and romance to keep the pages turning. The side characters were also great. They added a lot of personality, humour, and just the right amount of chaos to make the world feel alive. I would happily read an entire book about the supporting cast, which is great for me because I learned Gina LaManna has more works in this universe out to catch up on while I await the sequel in this series.

If you’ve read enough fantasy books, you’ll recognize some familiar tropes. It’s all been done before, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but don’t go in expecting a groundbreaking twist on the genre. While I loved that the book was fast-paced as that was exactly what I was looking for, there were moments where I wished it would slow down just a little. Some plot points felt glossed over, and I wanted more time to sink into the world-building and character development. A little extra depth would have made this story even better.

Overall I thought this book was okay. The book fell into a trap of telling and not showing, which is why it ultimately fell flat for me as I couldn’t find myself immersed in the magical isle or its characters. I truly think this novel had a lot of potential had the author put more development into the world and character building. The first chapter is so good, throwing us right into our main character being taken from her wedding by a mysterious man, but everything after that isn’t really shocking. My biggest complaint is our protagonist doesn’t find out she is fae until about 70% into the book, but we readers know that going into it from the description.

If you like that one scene in A Court of Mist and Fury where Rhysand shows up at Feyre's wedding, then this book is for you.

This is a super quick book (only about 200 pages) about a girl who is about to get married, doesn't really want to and doesn't really want to. She is begging for something to happen, for something to stop this and then he shows up. This dude magically appears and takes her away to a far more magical place than New York. And that's how this story kicks off.

I would definitely recommend this, it was so quick to read and I had a fun time. I feel like because it is so short that by saying anything else, I might be spoiling something, so I shall say nothing more.

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Alessia “Allie” Wells is a doctor, a runaway bride, and a firm nonbeliever in magic—until a dark stranger kidnaps her from her wedding and takes her to a mysterious island.
There, she discovers an enchanting world filled with mythical creatures and a deadly curse that only a true Fae can break. The problem? Fae were wiped out centuries ago… except for her.
As Allie embraces her destiny, she falls for the powerful man who took her—but if she can’t undo the curse, she’ll lose him, the island, and the only place she’s ever truly belonged.

Since I was in a pretty big reading slump (at least for me), this book came at the perfect time—it had everything I needed, and I truly enjoyed it. I’m amazed at how well the world was built; the world-building is excellent. From the very first chapter, I was hooked, wanting to know what was happening and what would come next.
I’m not sure if the book is just really fast-paced or if it was something else, but as a slow reader, I finished it surprisingly quickly. It’s super easy to follow, yet it keeps you engaged with constant tension and excitement.

This book has everything—romance, fantasy, Fae, unicorns, fated mates, Greek gods... I don’t even know what’s missing, haha! It’s written in first-person POV from Alessia’s perspective, and I love how her integration into this world is portrayed—it feels gradual and natural.
Although there’s nothing I can point out as truly wrong, in my opinion, this is a 4-star read. I feel like something was missing, like something just didn’t fully click for me.

That said, I can’t wait for the next book in the “Court of Isles” series—I really hope it comes out soon! I definitely recommend reading this book, especially if you're drawn to fantasy worlds—it’s so easy to immerse yourself in this one.

the writing is very fast-paced which is perfect if you're in the mood for a quick comforting magical read. however, i found myself struggling to connect with the characters and the story because the writing felt very rushed at times and it was basically a lot of telling and not showing, so i didn't feel as immersed in the characters and the world as that i had wanted to. i think this novel has a lot of potential if the author maybe took some more time in flashing out the characters and the worldbuilding. but the writing did feel comforting. it wasn't that serious, it's magical, full of whimsy, fae, curses, and that comforting romantasy feeling. there are also many comforting little messages woven throughout the book, a lot being about kindness and being enough as you are. i realize i have already said comforting a lot lol, but that's just how i could best describe this book tbh!

⤷ 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 ⊹.˚
i really enjoyed the characters in this book, including the side characters. everyone is so kind and good-hearted, and even the male main character, who is described as handsome, dark, and slightly mysterious with his onyx eyes, doesn't fit the typical problematic broody tall fae love interest. instead, he is incredibly kind, supportive, understanding, and gentle throughout the entire book. he never forces the female lead or takes away her freedom and choices, which felt refreshing and safe. and how he wants to help everyone, especially because of his background, makes him really charming. the author has truly created wonderful characters to read about. i really liked seeing the fmc open up her heart towards magic and magical creatures. watching her going from not believing in those things to slowly beginning to believe was really cute and evoked a childlike wonder. i found it beautiful and inspiring to see her break free from her expectations and live the life that makes her heart happy instead. to becoming free and embracing herself and finally finding a home, which also means the people around her. just like silas, i really liked how she wanted to help everyone (even a mermaid/siren). however, because of the fast pacing of the book, i felt that we didn't get much backstory on some of the characters, and i would have really liked to learn more about them. and the fmc accepts reveals really really fast without getting to know much of her thoughts and emotions, especially at the ending of the book, which at times felt a bit too rushed.

⤷ 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 ⊹.˚
i feel like we don’t get to know much about the worldbuilding in this story. we learn some details about how the fae ceased to exist in this world, and there are mentions of greek mythology, but I'm not entirely sure what that signifies for the setting. there are various creatures introduced, including dragons being mentioned, a vampire who doesn't want to drink blood shortly appearing, and a baby unicorn appears, which was by far the cutest part of the book, in my opinion—oh my goodness! there are also explanations about curses and the magical island, but i’m struggling to connect all the pieces and still have so many questions and still feel quite curious due to the lack of information, which honestly feels quite frustrating to me because i really want to understand things!

⤷ 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ⊹.˚
there isn't really any build-up or tension before they have their first kiss and become a thing together, and even the kiss feels very rushed and emotionless. i didn't really feel their chemistry and the romance didn't feel that convincing to me, however, the interactions they had with each other were cute and felt safe and healthy. honestly, i missed the experience of rooting for the love interests as feelings start developing and building up, but the pacing is too fast for that to happen and for being able to really feel the romance romancing.

''you are a precious thing to me, in so many ways.'' a hint of apology tinged silas's words softer, pleading, desperate. ''you are beautiful just the way you are.''

⤷ 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 ⊹.˚
overall, i have mixed feelings about this book. the plot and setting are perfect, and if the world-building were more cohesive and the characters and romance better developed, it could have been a truly great read. however, the novel does feel comforting, magical, and cozy. if a second book is released, i will definitely read it. because i did really enjoy the book, but am left feeling a bit frustrated because of all the questions left unanswered.

don’t go into this book expecting a fully fleshed-out world and characters or very detailed writing. that said, the characters are wonderful, the world is enchanting, and the writing is soothing. i would recommend this book if you’re in the mood for a fast-paced magical romantasy with gentle messages woven throughout the story.

Thank you to the publishers & Netgalley for approving me to read this book.

This was a fun fantasy read, I do slightly wish it had been just 50-100 pages longer just to expand on a couple things in greater detail.

I like the characters, the FMC is compassionate but strong willed and I enjoyed reading her unravelling the mysteries of her new situation. The MMC was broody, a little judgemental but also supportive and kind. The side characters bring a nice energy to the book as well with new friendships and connections.

I would love a prequel or a 2nd book to expand on some details. I’m happily rating this 3.75 stars.

The premise of this book is what drew me in. The idea of a runaway bride finding out she’s this magical creature when she’s stolen away from the aisle.

Overall I felt this could have been better executed. The love interest felt very insta love with no real connection between characters. It felt rushed and like there was no time to develop any actual feelings before we were expected to think alessia and Silas were head over heels.

The overall fantasy element felt very YA and even on the lower end of that with the simplicity to it.

Overall it wasn’t a bad book but it could have used some more fleshing out.

Overall

Cursed is a delightfully charming fantasy story that brings out all the warm and happy feelings. It focuses on themes of communication, friendship, and healing. The book was enjoyable and easy to read, immersing me in a unique and magical world.

The relationships between both the main characters and the supporting ones were wonderful. The dialogue was engaging, and the characters felt well-rounded and lively. The story and its world were easy to follow, with potential for further development.

On the downside, there's a part that might seem a bit unrealistic—no first-year medical resident is that skilled. Even in a magical setting full of curses and mythical creatures, this took me out of the story. Additionally, the main character handled everything with ease, which was acknowledged in the story, but I would have liked to see more growth in her journey.

Thank you LaManna Books via NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy and provide my honest and authentic thoughts

This was really underwhelming. It's a super easy read but there is just nothing special or exciting about this book. It starts with a runaway bride then to a attack from a siren. After the siren attack it's pretty much stagnate.

Would I Recommend The Book?: No

Objective Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Subjective Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Romance/Spice Rating: 🌶️ ½ [Some kissing]

Violence Rating: 🗡️

SFW/NSFW: SFW

Potential Content Warnings:
Illnesses and ailment, impromptu birth scene, mentions and discussions of blood, some minor violence, fist fights, brief discussion of institutionalization, neglectful and bad parent system, toxic relationship with ex fiancé

Additional Comments:
This book entertained me while I was reading it. It was a good palate cleanser, and it was interesting enough to keep me engaged. I really liked the vibes, and it reminded me a lot of a Disney Film and the aesthetics that come along with it.

I also really liked the characterization of all the side characters. They were often very distinct and had distinct appearances.

Silas and Alessia have some snarky fun chemistry between them that’s fun to read. I really like the dynamic between them. I really appreciate how Silas is big on consent and really emphasizes Alessia’s consent in the situation she’s in. I don’t often see books do that and I really like that. He's not toxic.

I also really liked how there was this encouragement for Alessia to engage in healthy habits, such as taking breaks and having active self care. I really appreciated it, because it’s not something that I see in writing very often, authors don’t often do that.

However, this is nothing groundbreaking. A lot of the concepts are interesting, but it feels like we don’t linger on them long enough. I wish that some of it was lingered on or developed more outside of conversation.

The side characters, while I like the characterization, were often static and had no character development throughout the story. We’re told things about these characters that we’re never really shown. This book has a really bad habit of telling things about our characters and setting without any description. The entire book feels like “Tell Don’t Show” and the entire book was a series of conversations- and the conversations just gave the same information repeatedly. Alessia rarely spends time alone, and rarely develops.

Please bare in mind I don’t give this criticism lightly:The main protagonist almost feels like a Mary-Sue. She catches onto things quickly without much training or struggle, she can see things that nobody else is able to notice, and has an amount of power that nobody has seen in a very long time. The struggles she does have throughout the novel are hand waved away because of her magic. All conflict is solved by the end of each chapter. We’re told she’s intelligent but we’re never really shown. She’s sarcastic, and she is a victim of her life before ending up on The Isles, but other than that she has no meaningful flaws that negatively impact her decisions or her character. Nearly everyone on the Isles likes her, or at the very least respects her, because of her magic and none of it really feels earned. I wish she had been developed more. I wish we got to see her before she was whisked away to this magical world. Everything was handed to her.

I wish that we had gotten to see more of Alessia’s story before she gets whisked away to this magical world. We only really see one chapter and were told a lot about the relationship with her parents and fiancé. I think that her character could have benefited greatly from having a bit more time to develop herself as a skeptic and as someone who is lonely.

Overall, this book was okay. It was enjoyable while I was reading it, but I was a little disappointed with the final product.

If I had to sum up Cursed in one sentence, it would be: a witty, modern twist on fantasy clichés that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still manages to pack an emotional punch.

The book kicks off with a bang—Chapter 1 is basically a modern-day spin on A Court of Mist and Fury’s infamous wedding chapter, complete with snarky humor and self-aware commentary. From the very beginning, this book had me laughing out loud as it gently poked fun at both fantasy tropes and modern-day quirks (Harry Potter references, anyone?).

One of my favorite aspects was how the curse in the story was portrayed. It’s not just a vague, looming evil that needs to be defeated—it’s an almost sentient, layered thing desperately fighting to survive. It’s a refreshing twist that adds depth without becoming overly complicated. I couldn’t help but want to peel back all the layers and figure it out.

The FMC (female main character) is such a relatable delight. She’s caffeine-obsessed (a girl after my own heart) and her reaction to a baby unicorn is exactly how I imagine most of us would respond—with a mix of shock and giddy excitement. Her authenticity really shines through, and that’s a core theme of the book: being true to yourself, even when the world demands otherwise.

I also appreciated the balance between the fantasy world and her old life in New York. When we returned to NYC halfway through, it added an emotional depth I didn’t expect—it was heartbreaking yet grounded the story in a relatable way.

The book is packed with fun references, including Greek mythology and subtle nods to fantasy staples. Sure, it makes jokes about “A Court of Ice and Emptiness” and ends with talk of mates, but rather than feeling derivative, it leans into these tropes with a self-aware charm.

At around 300 pages, it’s a quick and breezy read—it honestly felt like 50 pages. While the last 20% takes a turn for the action-packed, I did find the ending a touch too convenient. That said, it seems like there’s a sequel on the horizon, so I’m curious to see where the story goes next!

This book is perfect for anyone looking for:
• A lighthearted fantasy that’s great for getting out of a slump.
• A fun, self-aware take on popular tropes without the heavy world-building.
• A story with a strong found-family vibe and laugh-out-loud humor.

Yes, there’s a curse and everyone might die, but there’s also a baby unicorn. What more could you want?

Thanks NetGally for this ARC

This very cozy fantasy Is perfect for lower young adult read. Possibly upper young adults that love a fluffy, fated mates, predictable, no spice, Fay story. It was a really quick read for me, finished in one sitting-  But it was an enjoyable read at the start. Even though I'm more of a long read, magic history, complex lore kind of person, I do enjoy a cozy read as a palette cleanser but personally this one just lined me up for dissapointment.

The story is about a woman who wishes to escape her dull life and wishes extra hard while at the altar at her wedding where time freezes, a mysterious man appears in front of her and She is magically transported to a hidden aisle.

The isle is right there in the human world but hidden from human eyes, its Full of magical creatures, witches and mermaids and she must believe first that magic is real and then in her self, in order to save them all from the curse.

After living a life of being told what to do and when to do it, she finds this new freedom exhilarating.  And we get to watch as she settles in to this new stronger version of herself while she comes alive with the powers that the island holds. with a dash of the Greek gods and a sprinkle of old wounds left a fester; this story had incredible potential but it just felt flat for me!
It was a case of being told about the story rather than being shown it or allowed to discover it, and the worst of it was that we all knew the female main character is Fae, not human, and we all knew about the spoilers that were coming. However, she didn't find/work out any of it until around 80% in- which left no room for character growth and was extremely frustrating as a reader, to say the least!

The first chapter is great, as is the world building. It sets the book up like it's going to be a 5 star fantastic read and a wonderful series, but then it became lazy, Or perhaps rushed. (The author does have around 50 books out. So I feel these books are probably a case of quantity over quality.)

I won't be openly recommending this to others, and I won't be reading any more of the series.
However, if someone comes along that loves a fluffy,  predictable, cosy fantasy with a happy ending- then this will be the first on my list.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you so much to net galley and Gina lamana .

A magical, fast-paced delight with a hint of ACOTAR and Once Upon A Time. Interrupted weddings, mystical islands and a fae who doesn’t believe in magic. My kind of fantasy in a nutshell.

“To be accepted and loved, to bask in such a plain and wonderful gift. It cost zero dollars and cents, required no promises or lavish extravagances. I only wished I had longer to savour it.”

Alessia is a doctor, from a socialite family, expected to marry a man she doesn’t truly love, simply to keep up with the image her parents expect of her. Allie has never felt that she belonged. That is, until the pivotal moment of her wedding day is interrupted by somebody mysterious, dark and handsome.

Whisked away to a magical island, it takes no time at all for Alessia to feel at home. She just needs to adjust to the idea of magic first. And the encroaching curse that threatens to wipe everybody out.

This book was such an easy read. Allie is accompanied by her mysterious kidnapper, Silas who helps her to understand the magical world that had been hidden from her, whilst showing her some home truths. As the story progresses, it becomes a love story for the ages. Until tragedy strikes, and Alessia begins to understand her purpose.

“I only knew that I’d found my place and my person, only to have them both torn away from me.”

Silas was by far my favourite character and I can’t wait to see more of him in the rest of the series. He still remains a mystery, seemingly having one purpose; to uplift and support Alessia.

“Yes, you are powerful.” Silas said. “Beyond powerful, but the power is inside you because your heart is deserving of it. Your spirit is deserving. The kind of magic you have is special and rare, and it isn’t given by the universe freely.”

I really enjoyed Cursed. It had all of what I want from a fantasy. I couldn’t give it 5 stars because I was left with so many unanswered questions. Bring on the rest of the series!

in the first book of the Court of Isles series, we are introduced to Allie Wells, as she is about to walk down the aisle to marry the man of her nightmares. Nothing about her life (except for the fact that she is in her residency to become a doctor) is how she wants it. She doesn't feel close to either her parents or her fiancé. Everything about this wedding was all her mother's idea. The closer it came to the wedding date, the more she felt an impending sense of doom. So when a dark & handsome stranger named Silas shows up in the middle of the ceremony and kidnaps her, who is she to argue? When she wakes up on a magical isle, she learns that a curse has taken hold of the isle, and she is their last hope for getting rid of it. When Alessia discovers that she is the only remaining full-blooded Fae in existence, she accepts her responsibility to save the island, and everyone on it. The longer she stays on the island, the more she falls in love with it, and all of the people there, especially Silas. So if Alessia can’t undo the curse holding this island hostage, then none of it will matter—because she’ll lose everything she’s come to love.

I loved the Magic & Mixology series, so I was thrilled when I discovered there would be a new series that would be revisiting the island. Not only did I get to see all of my favorite characters from that series, but I was treated to some new favorites as well. I really liked Alessia and Silas and look forward to seeing where their story goes from here. You wouldn't need to have read the other series first in order to read this, although I do highly recommend that series. This first book could be read as a standalone. If you are a fan of fantasy fiction, then this needs to be at the top of your TBR pile. You are going to love it!

Shorter length, spice free (only a bit of kissing seen) fantasy romance.

Alessia is like a character in her own life. She seems to have zero input in anything she does does - her one small rebellion was being a family doctor rather than a fancy surgeon like her dad. She doesn't even seem to like her fiancé never mind be excited to marry him! So when a dashing stranger storms into her wedding and saves her from marrying the egotistical jerk, she gladly runs off with him.

However, finding herself on a hidden magical isle in the middle of the Great Lakes was unexpected to say the least. This island has a plague besieging its inhabitants and they are in dire need of a doctor to help them. But what they really need is a Queen.

Silas and Alessia were a great match. He, the enigmatic hero and her the runaway bride, doctor and, it would appear, late blooming magic wielder! Silas is kind and daring, a lover of his people and righter of wrongs. He's also a bit of a feminist and is big on making sure that Alessia knows her word is his order, he's really big on consent!

The secondary characters are fun, friendly and charming - I especially loved Mollie and Ranger X. I'd really love to see more of them in future books, they were a bit like NPC's - they didn't have a whole lot to do with the story really. I would have like to have gone a bit more in-depth on the worldbuilding but this series does interconnect with another set in the same world so reading those may fill in some of the gaps for me.

I would have liked to have seen a few flaws in our MC's. Alessia is all a bit perfect and polished for me and Silas needed an annoying habit or something to dirty up the perfect! I just wanted them both to work a wee bit harder for the respect and adoration they were afforded.

*NetGalley ARC Review*

⭐️⭐️⭐️| 🫑

This was a cozy, quick read fantasy with a need to find yourself FMC and a “I will give my life for her” shadow-ish daddy. Those new to fantasy or those that tend to avoid dark romance/fantasy may enjoy this book. For those avid romantasy fans, this one might fall a little flat.

The characters were enjoyable, and the Isle was whimsical. Loved Millie and Lily’s characters. I actually like that Alessia had to go back home to face her family and truly decide to return to the Isle.

While I enjoyed the premise of the book, it felt like this could have been a trilogy within itself or even a longer story. It felt rushed and predictable. Like super predictable. Things were just spelled out so clearly that you didn’t really have to guess. And with the pacing of the story, you’d soon see how it all unfolded. I just felt like some scenes missed some needed tension and mystique. Maybe even a little more build up or backstory.

The ending just ended. Like she stitch him up with her super magic faeness and reemerged a White Castle out of the water. And we get “I’m not your queen, I'm your mate. The end.” A little epilogue with the residents returning and setting the scene for the next installment would have been nice. Maybe even a quick scene of Silas and Alessia make the castle a home. Anything. Needed a little more, but that was my genuine sentiment constantly while reading Cursed.

Overall, this was a cute, quick read. This is bell pepper spice y’all. You might get like a kiss or two. Hard to call it slow-burn because the book moves so quickly. But you get fae, fated mates, curse/cure, a whimsy magical island, and a smidge “touch her or die”. I’m interested enough to see how the series unfolds.

This book felt so much like a FairyTale with the market audience being adult female romance and urban fantasy stories. The book even included a bit of a lesson which is also true of fairytales. Aleissa is stuck in a life that on the surface may look idyllic from the rich handsome fiance to the well to do upbringing but underneath she is drowning until she first calls on her power. Then the true tale of Aleissa begins, a tale about a woman finding her place in a world much different than the familiar. It is a tale about a woman pulled along in her life with her parents and finance planning each step going to a woman unafraid to stand up for her self, a woman so strong a selfless she even saves a cursed evil siren about to kill her.
Silas's short non-answers drove me crazy for a while but it also kept me turning the pages trying to determine when Allie wold learn the full truth. Otherwise, he was a good character trying to atone for something he was not responsible for. The other characters from Millie to Irina and from x to Lilah helped round out a good tale. I was most fascinated by learning that magic was all around Aleissa from the 6th Borough to magic corporations casting spells. However, it took Belief to open her eyes and belief in herself to help her save the world or at least the magical portion of it.
I would recommend this book and look forward to seeing where the story goes next.

Overall, the concept of the main character being stolen away from her wedding day to a magical world drew me in as it was reminiscent of ACOTAR. Allie was a doctor in the human world and she uses her skills and experience to help the people living in the magical isle she’s been transported to.
Silas the MMC is a hunter, people who are historically to blame for the deaths of the fae queens and should be killed on sight. However, he is attempting to free the isle from a curse and he believes that Allie is the key.

Personally, I wish there was a bit more build up to the romance aspect but due to the length of the book the pace does make sense.

- Greek mythology influences were scattered throughout the book, I would have liked a bit more world building to do with the king of the underworld and Atlas. As I do feel like the mythology aspects were introduced very quickly, however it does allow space for further exploration in additional books.
- Short under 200 pages
- Paranormal magic
- Fated mates
- Mysterious, broody male love interest.
- Cozy fantasy with magical creatures such as unicorns and mermaids.
- Modern day setting on a hidden away magical isle.
- For a short book there's detailed discussions of emotions and the changes in the FMCS life which could have just been quickly disregarded.

If you are after a short, fae and Greek mythology inspired romantasy book this one is for you. It was an easy digestible read with cozy elements that remind me of ACOTAR, the Spellshop and a touch of darkness.

This was a sweet and entertaining short read that gives off cosy, small town vibes.

Cursed starts off at the wedding of our FMC Alessia, where she is whisked away by a mysterious stranger… enter Silas. Silas is from the land of fae and magic and believes that Alessia could be key in breaking a curse that is currently in play. Alessia, being from Manhattan has no idea what she is getting into but after meeting and helping the people from the Isle she comes to terms with the fact that magic is real, fae are real and she might actually be one of them.

As this is a pretty short read the plot and pace move very quickly in this story and you are constantly learning things about the world and magic system, pretty much at the same time as the FMC. I found Alessia to be enjoyable to read from, she is very out of her depth but stays sharp and witty while figuring out what is happening around her.

I didn’t get a lot of chemistry between her and Silas as most of the book centres on the plot rather than the relationship. I did end up rooting for them though as you learn that Alessia comes from a high profile and unloving family that basically didn’t care about her. Overall I liked this but didn’t love it, my favourite thing was the plot and probably the side characters, I’m hoping book two has more of a focus on the relationship between Silas and Alessia.

'Cursed' is a wonderful story of self discovery and belonging. With a modern fairytale vibe, this novel is set on a lush and vibrant magical island filled with mystical creatures, spells and potions. Our main character Alessia is whisked away from her dreaded wedding day by the mysterious Silas, and thrown into a cursed world on the brink of collapse; where she learns of her true self and the hidden power she holds. I loved that the healing power Alessia finds within her has a connection to her biggest passion in life; of being a doctor in training, and her calling to help people.

The magic system in this novel was really interesting; and the authors writing was beautiful. This is the first book in the series to come, and there's still so much to learn about the unique land Alessia has become a part of, and the dangers lurking ahead.

My only criticism is of the pacing of the book at the start. I wish there had been more time for the main character to process what was happening, and to learn how to use the magic she had discovered, rather than immediately being able to use it. However for the length of the book, I think it works okay, as this is a quicker read than some heftier fantasy novels.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this!

Time to get back to the Isle. Alessia is about to get married to a man she doesn't love, in a wedding she had no say about. Standing at the alter, her sense of despair was so strong she ended up calling to someone she never met. Someone from a magical world she knew nothing about. She doesn't believe in magic, she is a doctor after all, so she's all about science. After a while though, she can't dispute the magic she's witnessed. She also has to come to terms with the fact of her true identity. Meanwhile, the Isle is under attack by a curse that Alessia and her new found family must try to destroy before it kills everyone. If you have read the Magic & Mixology series, or the Hexed Files series, you will be familiar with this world. (You do not need to be familiar with those to follow this series.) There are some cameos from characters from the Magic & Mixology series. It's a pretty fast paced story as the events unfold quickly. It's very smartly written. Fun characters. There is a little romance... a budding romance that will only grow with the series. (There is no sexual content.) There is some violence (primarily at the end when all hell breaks loose in regards to the curse and the aftermath.) It's taken entirely from Alessia (the Protagonists) POV. I'd say this is safe for teens and up.

I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the arc of this book, in return for an honest review.

Cursed follows Alessia as she’s ripped from her normal life into a world of magic, where she has to confront her true past and this curse that’s threatening it all.

I really like the premise of this book, and I think the author has some really good ideas - the execution of it all just wasn’t the best. Unfortunately, the book falls into the habit of telling instead of showing a lot of the time. It doesn’t feel like Alessia has to work for anything that happens, it all conveniently falls into place and works for her. There are some very unnatural pieces of dialogue that are obviously just there to give the reader exposition, which completely ruins the flow of the conversation and scene.

The main relationship here, between Alessia and Silas, was quite disappointing. I’m a massive fan of a slow burn romance, so these two ‘falling in love’ after only knowing each other a few days was such a let down. They know literally nothing about each other, yet I’m supposed to believe they’re in love? Not happening.

As this is the first book in the Court of Isles series, I’m curious as to where the author will take the story next (although I can probably guess) - however I’m not sure I’ll be picking up any more books in this series.

This was a very quick and easy read, told from Alessia’s perspective, as she navigates a brand new fantasy world.

Alessia is part of a wealthy family, paired off with a soon-to-be husband who controls anything her parents don’t, and she’s completely unhappy. While wishing to escape her over-the-top wedding, a mystery person shows up. Silas is the mystery man, and he transports her to a magical island. It’s on this island that Alessia learns about her true nature and discovers her calling. The romance between these two feels more like fated mates due to how quickly things progress, but it wasn’t too fast for me personally.

Their love story is a bit of a secondary tale to what truly needs Alessia’s attention - the curse that has descended upon the island. A magical curse has begun to take down the many varied paranormal inhabitants. Lucky for them all, not only is Alessia a trained doctor, but she also has some magical abilities that you can quickly figure out the source of. Couple this with Silas and the rest of the island’s support, and you get a rather quick resolution to what could have been a world-ending plague. I see this is listed as book#1 so I assume we get more adventures for this world and if they are all as quick and satisfying as this one, I will eagerly sign up!

Alessia has never felt like she belonged in her own life - despite an expensive wedding, working as a doctor and with a fabulous life in New York City. So when her wedding is interrupted by a gorgeous guy, Alessia quickly learns that New York is not where she belongs - but on a magic island, which desperately needs her help.

Reading this book on a snowy January, I couldn't help but be jealous of Alessia travelling to an island with constant beautiful, tropical weather (even if it's off of Lake Superior.) I also really enjoyed getting to see Alessia practicing medicine in a tropical land - whether it's Outlander or Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, it's always fun to see fantasy doctors solve something as ordinary as Lyme disease. It was also so interesting to see all the fantasy creatures living together in more or less harmony!

I was disappointed that the book bought so much into an idea of characters having a specific destined place on the Isle. Whether it was housekeeper Millie only being able to use the magic as a "common fairy" or Alessia being the only one who can protect the Isle, I wish the book had balanced a bit more of a message of determining your own future with the idea of destiny.
