King’s is book one in The King Trilogy by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

king's mimi jean pamfiloff:

Wow, how do I review this book. I love Mimi Jean’s writing. Every one of her series is different and never fails to surprise me in some way. I think this one might just take the cake!

archaeological dig site - Google Search:

Mia Turner has a great job, travels all over the country, and has a close relationship with her family. Especially her brother who is more like her best friend. So, when her brother goes missing on an archeological dig in Mexico, she’s scared like crazy. She tries to get information but no one will say anything. And when she is frustrated, alone, standing in the rain, with no where left to turn, a name and address is thrust into her hand. Go to him, he will help you. He will find your brother.

“King. His name is King.”

King is both handsome beyond belief, but sinister, dark, mysterious, cruel, manipulative, and so much more. He makes a deal with Mia. He will find her brother, and she must belong to him, for whatever he needs her for.

“Was there more to the world than what one simply saw on the surface?
Yes.”

As Mia is pulled into the darkness of King’s life, she is thrust into a world she never imagined. A world where the rich bartered with people’s lives to get what they wanted. A world where things that should have been impossible suddenly become possible. Just what is King? Is he a human? Is he a monster?

“Wish me luck.”
“You don’t need luck. You just need King.”

private jet:

As it turns out, there is a reason King needs/wants Mia. She has an ability he needs. There is something he wants and he will do whatever it takes to get it. But, slowly, Mia starts to see something else under all that cold exterior. Pain. There is a reason he is the way he is. Something made him this way, something painful.

king's mimi jean pamfiloff:

I did love this book but I have to admit to you that I still have no idea what in the world King is. And there is a heck of a cliff hanger. Thankfully, I am reading the entire series so I won’t need to suffer in between books. I loved Mia and her toughness. Even though she is scared to death, she stands up to King. Perhaps she is the only one that does this and lives. Mia will do whatever she has to do to save her brother. Does that include a lifetime of servitude to King?

kiss:

And how did I feel about King? Is he dark and broody and cruel? Yes. But I loved him. I too see something there. He does want something but I believe he also cares, both for Mia and for his other friend/employee or whatever he is, Mack. Who I also loved by the way. So I am hooked. I have to know what in the world is happening. So off I go to book two, King for a Day. Stay tuned.

“He was like a flame fueled by pure sin that I craved to touch.”

If Jericho Barrons had a malnourished, under-developed younger brother, King would be him! Throughout this novel that was the only thought that occupied my mind.

It was so clear that Pamfiloff tried to re-create the Barrons-Mac type of relationship, but sadly the whole thing came crashing down, because of one small reason. King and Mia are no Barrons and Mac.

Why did i come to this conclusion? There were just a few similarities:

1. Barrons is a gentleman asshole, who insists on calling Mac-Ms. Lane.
-King is a gentleman asshole, who insists on calling Mia-Ms. Turner.

2. Barrons is clearly not all human, but blatantly lies when Mac points it out.
-King is clearly not all human, but blatantly lies when Mia points it out.

3. Barrons is an ancient powerful creature, with dubious moral standards when coming to acquire something he wants.
-King is an ancient powerful creature, with dubious moral standards when coming to acquire something he wants.

4. Barrons tattoos Mac, so he can keep track of her.
-King tattoos Mia, so he can keep track of her.

5. Mac vomits when her Sidhe-Seer abilities lock on the Sinsar Dubh.
-Mia vomits when she uses her Light-Seer abilities.

6. Barrons always threatens to punish Mac, with a truck-load of sexual innuendo.
-King always threatens to punish Mia, but the truckload of sexual innuendo is mostly in her head.

7. The sexual tension between Mac and Barrons doesn't go anywhere for a long time because Mac doesn't trust Barrons.
-The sexual tension between Mia and King is very palpable but has to move a bit faster simply because Pamfiloff doesn't have as interesting story as Moning. Still Mia doesn't trust King.

8. Barrons keeps popping out of thin air to save Mac.
-King literally keeps popping out of thin air to save Mia.

9. Barrons wants Mac's seer abilities to help him get the Sinsar Dubh.
-King wants Mia's seer abilities to help him get the Artifact.

10. Barrons bargains for Mac's help, offering information on her sister.
-King bargains for Mia's help, offering information on her brother.

11. Barrons takes Mac to a party and dangles her as bait, to get her to use her seer abilities.
-King gets Mia taken to a party, to be dangled as bait and to use her seer abilities. The big difference here is- Mac actually manages to get something out of it, while the whole Mia thing turns into a fiasco.

12.Mac's journey into a world of paranormalcy makes you bond with her, connect and like her.
-Mia's journey into a world of paranormalcy makes you want to gag her, slap her and toss her into the nearest ditch.

But of course, all of the above mentioned could just be me imagining things. Mimi Jean Pamfiloff could have came to the idea for this novel, all on her lonesome.

Ms. Pamfiloff a small message for you- You have been a very naughty girl!
From me you don't get a *smiley*! You get a *frown face*!!!! It's ok to find inspiration in authors around us but this was just a bit too obvious, even borderline illegal.

UPDATE

I have been getting more then a few messages urging me to read the second installment of the King series, stating that it if i do i will find that there is no more similarities with Fever, and of course King couldn't be further removed from Barrons, and that should be enough to justify the first novel.

Do you honestly think so? Here is a little example: Imagine running a marathon with a star athlete. You know that you will never see the finish line on your own, but you really, and i mean really want to get there. So!!! You hop on the athlete's back and let him run, carrying you half the way. When you reach the halfway mark, you jump off and give it your best. Eventually you reach the finish line and you cross it with your arms raised high, fists pumping, and a big cheesy grin on your face, yelling - "I did it!!!"

No.....You didn't.

Karen Marie Moning invested her time, effort, talent, creativity and passion in writing her novels, and her work is appreciated by many. I believe that she would feel flattered if people found her work inspiring enough to try and create something of their own. 'King' is not the way to do it.

I am not surprised that the second novel differs greatly from Fever, because if it didn't there would be great, potentially career terminating consequences.

The end doesn't justify the means.....

King’s is everything it promised to be and more. It’s dark, mysterious and gritty with a touch of sensual and a dash of snarky humor that will prompt more questions than give answers and will leave you wanting more.
“Who or what was King besides a dangerous enigma?”

I really can’t answer that question, but I can tell you that the logical part of me wanted to hate that arrogant, sadistic, cold-hearted, controlling man with more barbaric shortcomings than I can mention just like Mia did. But just like her, there’s a part of me deep down in the recesses of my mind where not only do I like this dark man, I also feel there is something worthwhile in him.

And while my judgment in leading men maybe questionable regarding King, there isn’t any doubt that Mia is a heroine worth loving. Her love for Justin, her brother, and her parents is laudable. I admired her grit and tenacity, especially faced with the odds she was dealt. I liked her snark and the fact that she didn’t throw herself any pity parties.
“The fact was, it was my fault. I’d been allowing all this to go on. I’d been letting him get inside my head and control me.”

Overall, Mimi’s writing style is fluid and flawless, it’s engaging in a way that will make your heart race and will glue you to your seat until the very “To be continued…”

P.S. I really liked Mack, I LOVED that he’s “green”. I hope there’s a chance we’ll get to know him more.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
This book is NOT a standalone. It's the first in a trilogy.
It DOES end with a cliffhanger.
It is also in the Paranormal genre.

I'm really interested in the story, i want to know what happens, i want to know if King can get really bad...
But the heroine... Jeez. This woman was a professional, yet she was thick as shit. Her inner monologue was killing me slowly.
I re-attempted it, but i couldn't do it. Heroine was a stuttering dumbass.

3 Confusing Stars

Disclaimer - > I didn’t realize this was a “fantasy” book, I thought this was a dark steamy read. Also, I didn’t realize it was a Trilogy, so my fault for having certain expectations.

Summary

Mia’s brother goes missing and she is desperate to find him. King can find anything or anyone for a price. So Mia trades herself so King can find her brother.

Review

I have some highs and lows with this one…

My main problem is that there were some parts I was just generally confused. I get the whole “dark fantasy”, but there needs to be a nitch where King belongs. He’s no vampire, warlock, devil, etc. He’s just some guy with some confusing quirks and issues.

Based on the summary I thought this book be steamy. As much as I love tension, my downfall was expectations. I thought Mia and King would have this crazy lust story. Sure, there are some grabby moments, but nothing really moves forward.

Because this is a trilogy series, I the book reads slowly (even though it’s short). In the beginning Mia goes to Mexico and then the people who know Justin, her brother, tell her to go home and not look for Justin. Confusing I know, but she goes home and what does she do? She looks for Justin.

And when she trades herself to King, I figure some kink and some bonding would happen. No, it did not. It’s basically Mia questing everything King does and pushes his buttons. I found Mia very frustrating at times. She traded herself in so Justin could be found, but instead of doing what King wants, so he can find Justin, she just gets scared, freaks out and causes trouble. I didn’t get this. Why trade yourself in?

King is also someone I was finding hard to connect to. He’s a jerk, but what does he do, who is he? He’s so vague, it becomes distracting. I get the mystery, I really do, but when I read the book and none of my questions are answered, I’m kind of pissed.

The whole book is about King making Mia uncomfortable and they both look for Justin. Oh and the nice topper, the book ends on a cliffy. A confusing one, but a cliffy nonetheless.

As much as I rant, overall, the read wasn’t bad. It was short and easy going (even though I found the read slow… confusing I know). I was angry with Mia, but the chemistry between Mia and King was good. I rather have some crazy sexual tension, then insta-lust with no chemistry. The whole “fantasy” theme is kind of interesting and is different from the regular contemporary. I hope the next books step it up a notch.

I will continue with the series for now.

Well, I don't know what to really say. This was OKAY. It definitely wasn't as gripping, action-packed or interesting as I had hoped/thought. It was suspenseful...I'll give it that. But aside from trying to figure out what the hell was going on to what the heck King was, I was kinda bored.

I read a review comparing this to the amazingly fantastic Fever series by KMM. Once I saw that I was like, hey! I was kinda thinking the same thing! But let's be very clear...There was NO comparison. None. And if someone, anyone is trying to compare King to Barrons...Well. LET'S NOT. Barrons, to me, is one of the very few of limited heroes to live on infinitely in my mind. He is irrefutably, one of the sexiest beasts ever created in fiction. I'll leave it at that, for God's sake, look at my Goodreads name!

Anywho, getting off topic. So yes, this was reminiscent of Fever. But aside from that, I didn't like Mia so much. She was like a broken record, always repeating how dangerous King was then following that up with wanting to jump him. I get it, she's confused and feels King has this weird hold on her. There was sexual tension, but again, it wasn't all that convincing. At least not from King's end.
A sign that the book you're reading isn't great is when you put it down, you almost forget to pick it back up. That was me. I don't much feel like continuing the series. It ended on a cliffy, but I was like, meh. So I guess I won't be moving on with Mia and King. It wasn't bad, but it was boring, so the half star because what little sexy time there was, broke up the monotony for me.

One of my biggest pet peeves is a Heroine who continuously puts herself in danger after repeatedly being told to keep still or do as she's told for her own safety. The one who does what the fuck she wants to do and consequences be damned.

I especially don't like this behavior to come from a woman in her mid-twenties. It just makes her come across as annoying and inconsiderate of the people trying to help her. I couldn't even finish this book because the Heroine grated on my nerves so bad. I'm real disappointed with the way this book turned out. :/

Mia is searching for her brother who disappeared and may be being held by some bad people. She goes to King for help and he asks in return that she be his assistant. Though it is weird because he doesn’t need an assistant and she basically just sits at a desk in his home all day every day for weeks on end. King is definitely someone who has some supernatural powers, and Mia knows he is evil, but she doesn’t know what he is or what all he can do. She finds out that he is involved with something called the Ten Club, which is a club full of billionaires who work together to get power, supernatural artifacts and whatever their debased minds want. They have people who get things for them, get rid of bodies, and they have rules for being in the club.

This book was very weird, and we don’t really know what kind of being King is. Though like Mia, we know he is definitely not a good man. Mia was attracted to King throughout the book even though her feelings about him kept changing with the things he did. The book was narrated by Helen Wick, who has a good voice and does a good job of showing emotion through her voice. Though I have to admit I do like having a male and female narrator much better than solo narration.

So I adored this trilogy the first time around and now wanting to read book four and five of this series I thought a reread of the first three was in order to refresh my memory slightly and boy am I glad I did.
I am enjoying myself just as much as I did the first time around with this.
So book one: this is told from Mia's POV and if I had one slight criticism for this series its that I do wish we had got to experience things from King's side also, no mind I still had a ball but I do think his perspective would have made this even better reading than it was.
Mia herself is extremely inquisitive and impulsive, she is also not easily controlled which is definitely an issue now she has handed herself over to King.
Loved King as a character for starters his name really suits him, he has such a commanding take charge presence about him.
There is definitely something other-worldly about him he gives off such an ice-cold, mysterious, dangerous and sexy as hell vibe that I was practically salivating for.
Guessing who or what he actually is is half the fun here and I am most certainly having a blast trying to decipher King's mysterious origins and end-game.
This is just so bloody confusing and half the time I have no inkling whatsoever about what's actually occurring I am now so hooked and invested in the complete puzzle and am definitely here for the long game.
I have so many questions The sundial tattoo on King's arm? the mysterious ten club? I could go on and on with my many thoughts.
Then we have Mia who according to King is a Seer of light, one who he now owns, completely by her own hand.
By accepting Kings help in locating her missing brother Mia has basically placed herself in the hands of someone she doesn't really know or trust and she has agreed to obey totally and play by his rules.
One final thing don't go into this expecting the romance straight off.
This book plays the long game and is very slow burn indeed, the chemistry between Mia and King was so very well done and it practically projected off the page so this really wasn't an issue for me.
Book one manages to build the tension and by the time this finished I was so invested in the dynamic here, there was just no way I was abandoning ship, I was in it for the long-haul.
I also adored the way King refers to Mia as Miss Turner just so hot.
So yeh really great and interesting start to this series and one I really recommend giving a shot.

Mysterious And Captivating

This was the first book I've read by this author and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! Although, I should say that I didn't get what I expected based upon the blurb. Maybe I didn't pick up on it, or maybe it wasn't mentioned, but I don't remember any mention of paranormal elements in this story. As it ends up, the paranormal elements were a major part of the story. I really liked the story, but if you're put off by paranormal stories, this won't appeal to you. The organized crime, secretiveness and mystery are all there, but this isn't your run of the mill mob romance.

When Mia's brother disappears while on an archaeological dig in Mexico, she'll go to any length to find him and bring him home safely. After running into one roadblock after another and being warned off by masked intruders, it becomes apparent to Mia that there is more to Justin's disappearance than meets the eye. Nothing is adding up and Mia is running out of ideas.

After venturing down another dead-end road, she receives a referral to a man named King. With nothing but a name and address, she sets out to find this man who can reportedly find anyone. Prepared to pay any price, she agrees to trade herself in exchange for King finding and safely returning her brother.

And so the story begins...

If you're expecting a sex slave type of arrangement between Mia and King, as I had, you won't find it here. There is some thick sexual tension between the two and an undeniable attraction, but despite his "ownership" of Mia, King seems to have other reasons for his interest. Right up to the last page I was trying to figure out exactly what King's motives really were.

As far as Mia is concerned, her motives are pretty straightforward. She wants her brother back. She also finds herself drawn to the mysterious King, no matter how much she wants to detest him.

This first book in the trilogy ends with quite a plot twist. I'm very engrossed in the evolution of this storyline and will be continuing with the second book right away. I am looking forward to having King's the motives unearthed. I am also dying to see Mia and King act on their attraction. The two have an intense chemistry that wasn't fully explored in this book and I'm sure it will be explosive!

2 Confused But Who Cares stars

This was NOT the book for me. I thought this was going to be a suspenseful romance where the main characters have a push-pull romance and inevitably fall for each other under a stressful situation. I was very wrong. I was confused for pretty much most of this book. I was seriously reading this through with no clue what was actually happening.

King was a complete enigma. I still have no clue who or what he is. However, I do know he may be the devil and is an asshole of epic proportions.

Mia was annoying to read because she went around in circles with her thoughts and actions, and never did anything she should to maintain King's help with her brother.

Also, there was no romance in this. There were scenes that leaned toward angsty sexual tension, but no romance or sex to be found. At least not with King and our heroine. Yeah, that almost had me DNFing.

So unfortunately, this was not what I expected and not for me. Luckily, I borrowed this so no money was lost.

It was definetly a perplexing read. The plot was different. Though I still can't quite figure out a proper description for this book. Loved the vibes from the "KING". And actually enjoyed the plot . But the female lead was quite annoying and left me in quite a mood.

I would most probably continue on with the next book to actually find out what's going on (as it wasn't clarified in this entire novella) and to simply show the finger to the bloody cliffhanger.

Good or bad king

I loved this book!! Can't wait to read book 2. King is a man who will help you for a price and his price is mia!!! Mia needs king to find her missing brother, but their is more to this story then mia knows. Kings world is a dark place full of secrets and bad men who will stop at nothing to get what they want. Is king a good guy who's a little dark or is he just a monster who can't be trusted. Many twists and turns I this story but I loved it. If king is the devil like he claims the devils is hot as hell and I'm in love with him also.

Caution: Extreme gushing and fangirl behavior in 3...2...1... OMG OMG OMG I loved this book and the fact that I'm in her dedication page is....!!!! Thank you Mimi! AND now KING... OMG!!!!!
*takes a breath and let's it out slowly*
OK that's outta my system.

I really loved this story and can't wait to tear into the next. The story is well written and the mc Mia Turner is very likable. Mia's brother, Justin has been kidnapped and she will do anything to find him. Enter KING, an enigmatic man (devil in Mia's words) who just happens to be the man who can find anyone or anything.

On a side note, I said to Mimi that King has a Jericho Barrons vibe with all the mystery surrounding him. She told me to tell her what I thought of him after the second book and who he reminded me of. All I can say now knowing him a little better is he reminds me of KING. There is no one like him. ♡

Whoa! This story was one twisted roller coaster ride. Similar to Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's Fate Book this story is not at all what you think it is when you start reading it. Mia Turner is looking for her brother Justin who disappeared from an archeological dig site. Getting no help from the US Embassy or the FBI, Mia stumbles into an amnesty office where she received sympathy and the name of a man who could help her. King. No first name. No last name. Just King. First impressions of King: brusque, enigmatic, and mysogynistic. However, as you read further into the story you begin to see that it only a thin veneer of who he truly is. King has secrets and he has abilitites that boggle the mind. And unbeknowst to her, so does Mia, and King unlocks them for her at Justin's last known location in Mexico. Mia is instantly fearful. Her "gift" as the Seer of Light allows her to see things that her rationale mind just will not process. With King, Mia crisscrosses the globe in an attempt to find her brother… while simultaneously trying to lose King. But King will not be denied or thwarted. Mia is his. His posession. His toy. And, he let's her know that at every possible moment. But he also teases Mia's senses. She is aroused by the darkly mysterious man. As she is thrust deeper into King's world she uncovers devastating truths and suffers a devastating blow. The ending of King's definitely leaves a mystery and a cliffy (Blek!) but we also see traces of King's humanity and kindness. It's in there. Deep. But, still present. King for a Day is all queued up and ready to read. I must know what happens. Where is King?!?

This is my first read by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff and quite frankly I had no idea what this book was about. I wasn't sure if it was paranormal, fantasy, science fiction or straight vanilla. Now that I'm done with book 1 and heading for book 2 King for a Day, I'm leaning toward paranormal/fantasy...although, I'm still not 100% sure.

Mia's brother is kidnapped, she hirers this unknown entity called “King” to find her brother but barters away her life as payment. Mia follows King to Mexico where her careful belief in reality she knew as fact starts to unravel.

I found this story intriguing but a bit overwhelming. The characters pronouncements vacillate a lot. Making it hard to know when we are given true insight into King's and even Mia's trains of thoughts or are we being misled once again. That being said, I really enjoyed the mind blowing twist and turns, it kept me invested in the story's outcome. Of course, being kept in the dark only lasts so long. I'm about 30% into the second book and it is providing a lot more meat to the secrecy behind King, if that wasn't the case Pamfiloff might have lost me...but I'm still very happily holding on and looking forward for what will be coming next.

You can't overlook the raw sexuality oozing off King. He seems to radiate sex and power out of his pours. Its only a matter of time before Mia is captured in his web...if she survives...

I found this to be an incredibly draining read. It was just all over the place. It also has a weak heroine who is often only able to stutter and whimper. I really did not like her character . This book just didn't flow well for me. Not a series I will personally continue.

I gave this audiobook a C+ for both the story and narration at AudioGals.

Being a huge fan of Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to review King’s by Mimi Pamfiloff, which many have hailed as being on the same level with KMM’s unique, paranormal/urban fantasy romance series. Of course there is a whole other camp of reviewers who have complained that this book, and in fact the entire King’s series, too closely resembles the Fever series to be considered an original work. Interestingly, while I can definitely see some parallels and similarities, King’s originality didn’t present as large of an issue for me as the fact that I just plain failed to feel much of a connection to either the story line or the heroine. Instead, I was left with a feeling that most of the book was dedicated to the building of a whole lot of drama, focused on the heroine’s near paralyzing fear of the hero who she, no surprise, repetitively compares to the devil, without much provocation or other justification. The fact that I also had a few issues with the narration perhaps also negatively influenced my perspective. Nonetheless, giving this series the benefit of the doubt, and the fact that the premise certainly has potential, it may just be that to get the full effect of Ms. Pamfiloff’s story, and character development, you must experience the entire trilogy.

I had this on my TBR shelf awhile, and when I first started reading this, I didn't even realize it was from the same author who wrote a book I absolutely hated, Mermen. Thankfully this book was better written and the relationship between the two main characters intrigued me.

It's a strange book that starts on a weak step. At first the heroine comes across too wishy-washy and easily rolled over with a man who was cliche rude, but it turned from a predictable story to a perplexing tangle later on. At first the 'story' seems relatively simply, but this is a case where it gets more complex the deeper you dig. For the first few chapters I was as in the dark as the main character and wanting her to ditch King, but it becomes clear soon he has a certain power and ability she can't replicate personally. It's clear there are several storylines going on, with King's own mission taking precedent in his mind, the heroine wondering who and what he IS, what he's lying about, and getting involved with all sorts of BAD people.

Yes, really BAD people. The Club 10 has some of the most disgusting members I've read about for awhile. Not much is off the table for their corruption. While the heroine starts off where I wanted to slap her, she grew on me later. She shows a backbone and independence. Humor was ramped up - her thoughts made me giggle a few times. In addition to that, the infuriating male lead was easier on the palate as I saw more of saving graces, especially uber protectiveness (gets me every time.)

It's one of those books where the story hooks you, confuses you a bit, shakes you around, and you're still not sure exactly what you read when you're done, but you know you had a fun time reading it. There's humor but there's darkness, there's intriguing characters and sexual tension, but it's not corny erotica by any means.

Not everyone will enjoy this. You have to like this kind of story, the controlling sort of alpha male, supernatural blended in, and all that stuff. If you don't have chemistry with those tropes, then pass then on - if you do, then read this one as soon as you can, it's addictive stuff.

A different style of writing for Mimi and her Accidentally series, definitely more serious and infinitely more dark and mysterious, and that is the theme in the book, mysterious!!

When Mia needs something found, and all the doors seemed closed to her, she finds herself in front of a cold and cruel man that can actually help her, but for a prince.... Her!

But what does it mean? Her?

Through out the book, you get to know Mia, who suddenly is thrown in a completely different world that she didn't even knew it existed, globe trotting and staying in 5 star hotels, but terrified!! And you get to meet King, the biggest enigmatic in the book, is he really cold and cruel, or is he hiding something??

So far its a different premies from any book that I've read, so kudos to Mimi!!!

She keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen, who or what is King, and in the end........ Nop, not gonna tell!!!

I really recommend this book, and I plan on starting the second one right now!

This is very, very similar to The Fever Series.

It has most of the elements that were present in the first Fever book, even the bits I didn't like, the annoying leading lady who is so stubborn headed that she constantly gets herself in trouble, for example.

This was an entertaining enough read, it had a decent amount of heat and some great sexual tension, but there was so much left unsaid that I don't really feel like I need to read any more. I kind of feel like I am never going to get answers.

I'm surprised at how good it was, considering it was an amazon freebie.

I may continue this series at a later date, but I feel like I should probably finish the Fever series first.

This was rec'd as a book with a hero similar to my favorite book boyfriend Jericho Barrons Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning . A lot of this book has a similar vibe to that series, so in that sense it was okay. This might have worked better in third person, but being trapped in the head of the this extremely annoying heroine led me to abandon ship at 60%. She lacks commonsense, doesn't listen, and she doesn't explain things well on top of it. She's also very unlikable, and whiny.

To rate or not to rate. This, my dear beloved, is... not the question. That would be how much did I enjoy King's. And here my thoughts get muddy. A lot.

There's no denying this book has a strong pull, because I had so many nits while reading, I would have already one starred many a book. But here I really can't. If I have to compare it to some other experience, I would say it's a roller-coaster. Some very thrilling moments, some fun, never the same. I'm also honest: I'm not sure this is good.

So, in its way is a gripping story. But if you are wondering whether to read it, know this. It does channel the Fever series. I don't think it's a copycat, nor I consider it unfair (it would be more a tribute). I've read a few series where world-building and plot were so similar to an other, you did wonder how the authors aren't facing a judge. This isn't the case. But much depends on your sensibilities. See: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

What made me tick.

--A very weak beginning that basically undermines the foundation on which this story is built.

--Lack of world-building. Yes, I understand that Mia doesn't understand, so neither does the reader. I understand mystery, too. But here we are given nothing. There are a lot of blank spaces. I thing a framework of some kind would have been better. And - no - the Club 10 isn't reason nor world enough.

--This caused quite some confusion, above all toward the heroine. I couldn't understand whether she's manipulated (and so forced) by King or if she's completely schizophrenic. I can't consider her weak, at all, but she does sound mad, with really a split personality. Fuck him, hate him. Two different women. And - yes - the fact she's is transformed into a whimpering salt statue, at least in the beginning, in front of him is beyond irritating. We are never given a reason why. And - yes - it does make a difference.

--Everyone seems surprised when she lashes out. Err.. why? He's a manipulating asshole. And there's no reason in this book why she should trust him. But many readers seems offended by this attitude, by her lack of submissiveness. A TSTL heroine is something different in my eyes. I'm not saying she doesn't make mistakes, mind you. Just that they seem almost logical to me (like running away).

--I didn't like Mack. He's written of as a nice guy, but I think he's as bad as King. There's no ounce of mercy or sympathy in him. Why does the heroine treat him as a friend? He's a jailer with a nice face. But he's not on her side. Again I don't understand why she says sorry to him because she run away.

The story ends in a cliffhanger of sort.

With all this I can't deny I liked it. Simply, not all of it.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR "THE KING TRILOGY" .

Let me be honest. This series is not for everybody. I won't recommend this to my friends here in Goodreads because if I do, this book would be filled with 2-3 stars and all the criticism for technical stuff. But why the hell am I wasting my time doing a review for a 2.5 star book? Simple. I'm crazy.

One reason why I'm doing this review: CURIOSITY IS A BITCH
One reason why I keep on reading (and eventually finished the series) is because of being curious. That has always been my greatest downfall. One tiny unanswered question, one unturned leaf, one partially opened door and I'm a goner. On the King's, I was dying to know what King really is.

Is he a warlock?
A werewolf?
A vampire?
A human who dabbles in the dark magic?

None of the above.

Normally, I would have criticized Mia Turner for being such a lousy heroine.Let us also not forget, the Spanish shenanigan in this book. But really. I didn't mind those things because I was focused on King.

On the second book,King for a Day, I learned more about King. The guy is just a motherlode of secrets. But when I finally found out what ticks off King (he's a ghost )there's a bit of a cliffhanger and ( sigh ,)I keep on wondering about his past that I just have to read the last book even though the heroine is shitty.

King of Me. Finally. Case solved. The heroine is still disgusting though.

Just a piece of advice note reminder shit. Curiosity may kill the cat. But satisfaction brought it's life back
