Tight End

Rate this book
He hates me, and I have no idea why. But that didn't stop me from falling for him...
Six months ago, Brixton Scott was just another face in a hospital waiting room during the worst night of my life. Now he's drowning in rage and loss, and every time he looks at me, there's pure hatred in his eyes.

When we collide again during a bar fight that goes viral, both our careers are on the line.

The solution? Fake date each other until the scandal dies down.

As the NFL's golden boy, I need to explain why I was involved in a bar brawl. Brixton needs a respectable boyfriend to clean up his bad boy rock star image. Our publicists call it a perfect solution. If we're dating, my intervention looks protective, not reckless.

But every staged kiss seems to hurt him more. Every fake smile makes him pull away. And I can't figure out why the man I'm supposed to be saving seems to be determined to destroy himself.

Brixton hates me for reasons I don't understand. I'm falling for him despite knowing he'll never let me in.

Our fake relationship was supposed to fix everything. Instead, it's breaking us both.

Some secrets are too heavy to carry alone. Others are too dangerous to share.

Tight End is book four in the Red Zone series. It is a standalone MM romance featuring fake dating, grumpy sunshine, found family, enemies to lovers, grief and healing, forced proximity, and two men learning that love can survive even the darkest truths.

I think this story is the best yet! It’s certainly addictive, and interesting.

Whew! (Is it hot in here?) Yup, nice and steamy. Easy to read? Yes. The reason this one was so captivating is the emotional turmoil the main characters experience and how it influences both their personal connection and their professional paths.

Brix, an incredibly talented musician with a thriving career, witnesses the collapse of it all following an unfortunate twist of fate. Sam, unbeknownst to Brix, has benefited from that twist, and it makes the connection volatile. Need to know more? Of course you do!

The journey these two went on to find their happily ever after was truly enjoyable. It’s easy to relate to their emotions, and I particularly admired Sam for how he cared for Brix’s heart. As I read each chapter, I could feel the emotions and scenes coming to life, making it difficult to forget about this entertaining couple. To fully appreciate the crossover characters and enhance your reading experience, it is highly recommended to read this series in order.

I can’t wait to see what other creative works are coming from this author.

My ARC copy was provided by Booksprout (thank you) and I voluntarily leave my review.

I just finished Tight End, and wow, what an emotional rollercoaster! Brooklyn Cate really knows how to pull you in with this fourth installment of the Red Zone series. From the very first page, I was captivated by the lead singer of Sin City and his tumultuous journey.

The story kicks off with our main character facing a career nosedive, and let me tell you, it hit me hard. I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs, and Cate’s portrayal of this struggle felt so real and relatable. Just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, NFL superstar Sam Hartley crashes back into his life, and the tension is electric. Their history is messy, filled with animosity and unresolved feelings, and I was hooked as I watched them navigate the fallout of their past.

One of the things I loved most about this book was the dynamic between Sam and the protagonist. Their “grumpy/sunshine” contrast is executed flawlessly. Sam's sunny, optimistic nature is such a great foil to the lead’s darker outlook, and it made for some really entertaining moments. I found myself laughing out loud at their banter while simultaneously feeling the weight of their emotional struggles. Cate has a way of making you feel every high and low right alongside the characters.

The fake dating trope added such an exciting layer to their relationship. I mean, who doesn’t love a little tension and drama? Watching their pretense turn into something real was a thrill. The intimate moments between them were steamy and heartfelt; I felt like I was right there with them, cheering for their connection to blossom amidst the chaos of their lives.

And let's not forget the villain! That added a fantastic twist, keeping me on my toes. As I read, I found myself wondering how everything would unfold. Would they overcome their pasts? Would they risk it all for each other? Cate has a knack for crafting a gripping story that keeps you guessing while tugging at your heartstrings.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

talk about enemies

I love this story, love the hurt comfort of it all loved the plot and things they had to deal with. The beginning hit me straight in the feels. Loved love love this.

That being said, I did struggle with this. So much hate smexy time. Every single encounter was I hate you and I’m gonna show you how much I hate you. Wait I have feels run. Then skip forward I love you. But I thought they hated each other. They were always raging and angry. And because of that I didn’t feel the connection, I didn’t feel the love. Which is sad cause I really wanted some kind of sweetness.

For future me:
Dual POV
Lack diversity
Smexy before relationship
Strict roles
No cheating and sharing

ARC Review of Tight end by Brooklyn Cate 🏈🎤🌶️🎧🔫🤫🫀🩺🏟️📚🎸🩵

This was such a beautiful story! This book completely shattered my heart during the very first chapter, then it tenderly and slowly pieced it back together, only to tear it apart all over again! The intense emotional ride is exactly why I fell head over heels for this story. Brix is a beautiful disaster, and Sam is the unmovable force, and when their worlds collide, it’s an electrifying explosion of emotion! And watching them be so delicately rebuilt and transform into these beautiful characters was just pure magic.
I honestly cherished every single moment I spent reading it, tears included!🥹🩵

The journey these two took to find their happily ever after was such a joy to witness. Their emotions felt so real, and I especially loved how tenderly Sam cared for Brix’s heart. Each chapter made their story come alive, making it so hard to forget this unforgettable couple, I was definitely rooting for them until the very end.

Watching Brixton grow into this great guy was so rewarding. He’s deeply troubled, but seeing him work through his issues, especially with Sam by his side, was both intense, heartwarming and specially beautiful. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the bond he shares with his niece adds an extra layer of sweetness.

“What would make you happy, Brixton?” Sam asks slowly. The traffic light turns red and I press my foot on the brake.
Fuck it.
I don’t want to be afraid anymore.
So I’m taking a risk, probably the biggest one of my life. I turn my head toward him.
“You. I was too stupid and too scared to admit it before, but I’m saying it now. I want you, Sam.”

“You set my heart on fire,” he whispers.
“And with you is where I belong,” I murmur against his lips. “Now and forever.”

For this being my first M/M romance, I was NOT expecting to be FUCKING heartbroken the minute I dove into this book! Like, are you really pulling this shit right now? Knowing that they don’t start out like that normally, but DAMN. Really having to pull those heartstrings right of the bat! But diving more and more into it, I gotta say… WE LOVED IT.

We can’t go wrong with a bad boy rockstar right? With the pretty eyes and the can’t be fucked attitude? But we get to see underneath those layers and god damn my heart broke for him. How could it not? On a journey to rediscover oneself, to truly realise their self-worth, and to overcome past demons and to finally find true love, Brixton has had it rough… REAL FUCKING ROUGH. But I am so happy for him and proud of him for all that he has overcome. And he couldn’t have done some of that without the help of Sam *smirk*.

Resident do-gooder Sam, and all-star football player is just AN ABSOLUTE SWEETHEART. I COULD NOT with him and his ADORABLENESS. But having your heart on your sleeve as much as Sam does, it can open you to more heartbreak than you could ever imagine. And poor Sammy boy GOES THROUGH IT. He loves too hard and too fast (which isn’t a bad thing) and wants everything to work out for everyone and 100% is a ‘I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)’ stan.

The electricity between these two WAS FIERY HOT. LIKE GODDAMN. It was intense, it was steamy, and it was SIZZILING. And fate could have never been sweeter when connecting these two all those years ago, to now. Full of heartache, shitty situations, self-discovery, and out of the blue FUCKING PLOT TWISTS that left my jaw on the floor, it was full of the love that was needed and deserved. I absolutely loved this, and everything when it came to Brixton and Sam’s love story, and I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the Red Zone series and get more HOT AND STEAMY.

Beautiful book!!

This book was absolutely brilliant!!! It will pull you thru the ringer with emotions on high alert. I did not expect to cry as much as I did but Brixton's story was so heartbreaking.
I won't say much but he was only loved by one person, who protected and loved him his whole life. His brother was his biggest fan and protected him. He was biggest rock star on top of the world but then it came crashing down. A moment in time, changes Brixton forever. He's in a down spiral and pushing everyone away. He doesn't know how to handle life on his own. He doesn't have family to support him or so he thinks.
Sam is a superstar football player and has a loving family who supports him 100%. He's the type of guy who will do anything for anybody. He volunteers his time to kids. He'd much rather do that then be in the limelight.
Him and Brixton go on a journey throughout this book. Emotions are HIGH and both characters learn who they are and how to be better people. The connection they felt from their first meet was real, they just had to jump some hurdles to get it to come to Love.
I absolutely LOVED everything about this book!! I was completely obsessed with the characters, their lives and how Brixton finally figured out he was loved and had a family who supports him no matter what. The ending was truly my favorite, even though I didn't want to end.

This is hate to lovers done right. These two have such a strong connection, but the amount of hatred spewing between the two lights up the story. I loved the back and forth from screaming verbal attacks to being pushed up against the wall and devoured. Sam may seem like an all-American sweetheart NFL player, but he has the reserved dominance to withstand and fight off Brixton's insecurities and aggression. Together, these two are a storm of passion and emotion and combative issues.

I loved that this is a loose MM take on Swift and Kelce. Brixton is the rockstar at the top of his game, who is on the brink of self destructing. Sam is the football player with a squeaky clean image. He gives so much energy to others after suffering heartache and near loss. Support and love could be found in each others arms. They just have to work through the mountain of issues first.

A super easy and unputdownable love story with angst and steam aplenty. You just know these two will be a perfect match one they get over their own barriers.

This book hit so hard! Such a heartbreaking premise. Brixton is a rock star that just finished a concert when his sister-in-law Allie's water breaks. His brother Davis, Allie and him rush to the emergency room in an Uber, but the driver is distracted and they get in an accident, leaving Davis' life in danger. While he's waiting in the hospital, he visits the chapel where he runs into football star Sam, whose brother Chase is on his deathbed unless he gets a new heart. They both feel an immediate attraction, but it's not great timing. Davis ends up dying and Chase gets his heart, saving his life.

Two years later, Brixton is still a mess thanks to losing Davis and his father treating him like crap for losing his mother. He runs into Sam again but it all goes downhill so fast. They end up faking a relationship to make up for a horrendous PR situation and things just get complicated.

🔥: These two despise each other during their reunion and it fuels some wild hate sex. Scenes are graphic and quickly paced with so much passion and anger.
😆: Not a lot of lol moments here. Except maybe when it comes to Brixton's adorable niece.
😭: There are a bunch of gut-wrenching moments in this one. Have some tissues ready!

This story was so intense it was hard to put down! So many unexpected moments! This definitely shows how thin the line is between love and hate. I loved seeing Brixton fight for ... well just about everything. That guy deserves a vacation!

CW: death from car accident on the page, assault on the page, knife and gun violence, parental neglect

”Tight End” is an angsty romance between a rockstar and a football player. Brixton and Sam first meet in the chapel of the hospital where both their brothers are fighting for their lives. They later reconnect at a bar where Sam stops Brixton from continuing a fight with a motorcycle club. Thanks to pictures of the two men together, their respective management asks them to pretendto date to help fix Brixton’s bad boy image. Neither man is happy about it, but they’re still very attracted to each other.

I enjoyed watching Brixton work on becoming a better person. He’s very troubled, thanks in part to a neglectful father and has a lot of issues to work through. His relationship with Sam is intense from the beginning and the steamy scenes between them are very hot. Brixton also has a great relationship with his niece, which is very sweet. I enjoyed this book and rate it four stars.

Books like this are what keep me adding new authors to my ARC list.
Tight End is a book that will live in my head for a long time. It is extremely intense and I almost cried through the entire story. What Brixton goes through his whole life and the way fate buffeted him is sheer cruelty.
Sam is so lovable and strong. I admire how he holds on to his relationship with Brixton despite all the adverse circumstances. The HEA in this book is hard earned.
Brooklyn Cate kept a tight grip on my heart through the entire story, squeezing it so hard at times that it's on the verge of bursting. I will definitely be diving deeper into her catalog.

Wow talk about a start to a book! Start off heartbroken and it just gets worse (then better I swear) from there!
This will grip you from the beginning and not let you go!

This is an emotional hate to love (enemies to lovers) romance between a football player and a rockstar!

There is so much that happens in this book and it’s hard because I feel like any details I give will spoil the book!
Sam and Brixton have a lot to unpack and deal with but seeing them get their HEA, they each have their own battles to face (one more than the other)
It’s such a beautiful emotional romance!

I’m lucky enough to have been able to ARC read this!

4.5 super emotional stars!!

This author is so good at wringing every possible emotion out of her readers. That is certainly the case with this story. Brixton and Sam are connected in such a vital way and neither of them knows how for several years after meeting. There are so many super sad moments, lighthearted moments and heat inducing moments. The characters are so full of depth and the progression was so satisfying. If you love an angsty, hard fought romance, this one will be perfect for you. It’s bittersweet getting to the end of this series, but I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next.

This book was not for me at all. I understand grief and the 1st part made me ugly cry but Brax's tantrums went on for too long. I think the author dragged Brax s issues for way too long. I was at 60% and I couldn't stand the guy, any sympathy for his lost brother was long gone.He was mean, spiteful and an overall dick for more than half the book. The angry sex was cringy. When he confronted his dad he came off as a hypocrite bc he dealt with Davis death the same way his dad did with Brax s mom. Sam breaking up with him, absolutely ridiculous, a grown ass man acting like a teenager, scared he ll get his heart broken.

I loved Brixton and Sam’s story! From the very start they had the sparks even if they didn’t realize that, but it was just a happy from the start love story. Their love story was messy and rough and at times I didn’t know if I wanted to yell at them or cry over them, but they found their way through and ended up stronger than ever. Their lives were such polar opposites and it was so amazing seeing the two come together despite how different their lives were. I can’t wait to read what comes next!

ARC Review

♡Incredible M/M Romance♡

Brooklyn Cate has such a way with words! I love her writing so much and am always looking forward to reading her writing. This story was super angsty, which was absolutely perfect! Brix is a Rockstar, and Sam is a football player. I honestly couldn't get enough of them! They're living completely different lives, but that doesn't stop them! I'm obsessed with them, to say the least!

Thanks so much to the author, literally yours pr and booksprout for the ARC!

4.5 stars. I was particularly impressed by the palpable dislike and distrust between the MCs during the bulk of the story. Brixton's bad reactions due to his grief and traumas were well written and really made it understandable for the reader, but as these weren't known to most of the characters, it worked really well. Sam was sometimes just too good to be true. I read this as a standalone, which wasn't a problem at all.

This was my first book by Brooklyn Cate and to be completely honest I just think her writing isn’t for me. The story it’s self wasn’t bad but it somehow felt rushed and super long at the same time. I didn’t care for how Brixton and Sam knew nothing about each other besides their public persona but just weeks later are so in love. It just felt very rushed. I was graciously given an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Yes yes and yes.

I loved the character development for both MMCs. They were lovable to start with, but as the story progresses, you see them not only become better individuals but that they are better together. Shared and individual trauma brings them together. And may make you cry if you're a sympathetic crier like I am. I loved all the books in this series but this one holds a special place in my heart. Can't wait to read Jack's book.

The word F*** was used WAY too often. On one page I counted it used ten times.

None of the characters were NOT believable or likeable.

It took me a long time to get through this book. I kept at it not because I liked it, but because I hate to start a book and not finish it.

The good part was that Sam believed that Brixton was redeemable. We all have good qualities and can be redeemed.

This book literally broke my heart in the first chapter, then it gently put it back together just to rip it out again! The emotional roller coaster is why I loved this book! Brix is a train wreck and Sam was the brick wall and when they collide it was explosive!! Then they were carefully reconstructed! I loved every minute of it!

The story follows Brixton and Sam after a chance encounter one night when both their lives are set to change forever. Fate intervenes and the tale unfolds...

The book was quite easy to read, I got through it in a day, there's a bit of angst, a few surprises and a sprinkle of spice.

This book had an interesting concept. I loved the rockstar/football player duo. 😊 Also as a Taylor swift fan with Travis Kelce being the only tight end I know in football I loved the references. 😂 these characters balanced each other out so well with the bad boy and golden boy vibes.

It is what it is. I read the others, which had the same play out each one, but this one I can't get into. The whole reason for them dating doesn't make sense. One pulled one away from a fight, that's it. That doesn't warrant a fake relationship. Idk. This one just didn't do it for me.
