You might think I’m your average spooky, queer goth girl who lives in a haunted house with spiders, bones, bugs, and witchy shit with a girlfriend who has a girlfriend who has a husband.
But I’m much more than that.
I’m a hitwoman. They pay, I slay.
Oh, by the way, those bones that decorate my house (as well as other things) are little keepsakes from my victims. Psst, spoiler I also keep their dicks and eyeballs.
Anyway, I kill men who have a hearing issue... you know, the ones who can’t hear the word “no” when a woman says it? Yeah, that’s me. I’m Mommy.
2.5 stars. The title pulled me in, but the story quickly lost me. There are a lot of editing issues here from the actual content to the grammar. The story is just all over the place and the pacing was set at breakneck speed. Scattered thoughts, line after line, and an exhausting amount of awkward, body horror heavy sexual content with no real context. I understood that the lead was a hit woman, of sorts, with some unhealthy sexual kinks and a dash of serial killer, but it was hard to follow anything. There was barely any development to bring the reader into this world. And there really wasn’t much of a point, aside from trying to shock the reader with random scenes of violence and sex being intertwined. I am a huge fan of extreme content, especially when it involves revenge, trauma, and female empowerment, but this didn’t work at all. It tried hard to be different and quirky, which was admirable, but, unfortunately, missed almost every mark beyond that.
You know what? I make no apologies for the shit I read anymore 😂 Layla Moon has a knack for conjuring up take-no-shit FMCs (many with a taste for blood) and I eat her books up every time. This was gory, smutty, intense and sometimes just downright strange. Honestly, you know what you’re getting yourself into when you read a book with a title like this one, so I don’t want to see any complaints damn it 😂 4 stars for me, but only because I’m very stingy with my 5 star reviews. For real, this book delivered on what it promised and if you’re a Layla fan, you’ll like this one.
I opened this knowing I would regret it but I’m surprisingly more icked out by this nonsense, try-hard attempt at writing a “cool girl” main character than the actual grotesque kills.
We get it. You wear black lipstick and named yourself “Uno” as in Uno Reverse Card and you’re weird. You’re a weirdo. You don’t fit in and you don’t wanna fit in
⚠️WARNING!!⚠️I did not read this book, but PLEASE do NOT support this author. A book titled "Written in Blood", was a collaboration of authors and the money was to go to charity. Layla Moon took all of the money and shut down her socials. I refuse to support someone who not only screwed over all of the authors who put their time in creating something that had to be ultimately taken down, but also all of the readers who donated that money for a good cause. I'll be posting this on every single one of her books. Please make sure to like this review so it stays at the top of the comments for future readers to see.
Ummmm. 😅🥲🤣🥴 I read this for the title and because I had FOMO from people talking about it. The grammatical errors were distracting and I'm shocked this got through an editor. Even went back to check it was accurately edited. Note to self - it was and don't ever use that company if needing something proofread...
But I did finish it so it is getting 2 stars because it was kinda funny and definitely fucked up.
First of all, I have read a Layla Moon book before, specifically The Offering. I won’t go in detail, but I wasn’t a huge fan of that either for many reasons. Let me just say, I am a dark romance fan, and I know I can handle most of the themes within dark romances. However, this novella was utterly disturbing and grotesque. Despite that, that’s not even my main issue with it.
Similarly to The Offering, this book has a lot of grammar mistakes/issues with sentence structure. I honestly don’t know how ANY editor in their right mind could read through this and okay it, let alone a respectable publisher. The mistakes are so frequent, in fact, that I highlighted 10+ in the only 59 pages of this novella. It makes it hard for me to read because it takes me out of the fantasy of the story. I seriously cannot comprehend how this was published with such frequent errors.
Again, this book is pretty gross, coming from someone who has read plenty of dark romance novels. Read at your own risk, or save yourself the pain of grammatical errors left and right.
After some thought, I think I can finally put into words my thoughts on this book.
Firstly, what the f***
Secondly, after hearing all the recs for this book and I'll admit, reading the title, I was excited to read it.
Straight away, I knew I wouldn't like it. Nothing to do with the themes of this book but at how badly it was written. It read as it was something I had typed out myself, and im no writer.
I feel like it was only published due to the shock factor.
The MC was written as someone who thought the sun shined out of their let's say, piss flaps? We get it. You're some bad ass vigilante who likes black and is constantly horny. One paragraph would have been enough
The book could have been really good, feminist killing horrible men, takes pleasure in their deaths etc and had outrageous ways of killing/getting off.
When a book series is called wtf did I just read 😳 it literally is wtf did I just read 😲 crazy raunchy sick twisted but had to finish this. Not sure i will recommend not overly keen on blood scene 👍
I laughed when this title appeared in front of me, but after reading it, I can tell you that it’s a great er0t!c horror story! I definitely asked my Kindle “what the f did I just read Layla?! ” The story has a good dose of feminine rage and depràv!ty. I loved it.
In this book you'll find: What did I just read?!.. Badda$$ goth FMC Hitwoman Queer Characters in their 30’s Degr@dat!on Submission “Mommy” Halloween Masked FMC Golden 🚿 M🔪rder
I saw the title on an IG post and was immediately curious. Worst $10 I’ve spent I’m all for a feminine rage, revenge story but this was fucking…dumb. Sorry if that’s too…mean? The MC was extremely self absorbed and calling herself “mommy” gave me the ick. I hated the dialogue and hated all the tik tok references. I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum by this review, but this was not it for me…
ARC Review… This was a wild ride from page one! The complete depravity was wild! CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS!!! This is a dark one but oh was it just delicious to take in! Ms. Layla Moon is here for all the girls! These quick reads are great and she has you enjoying it all!
Just take this book for what it is - a good, freaking time. What a disgusting, cringey, wild ride. Like a B Rated horror movie, I was entertained. The feminine rage was glorious.
It’s a really quick read, not gonna lie I was drawn to this cos it said the FMC was unhinged and I do love me a strong FMC sometimes, the title I don’t like (my opinion) but I can see how that would draw people in, as the author states “it’s a WTF did I read” book which appeals to a lot of unhinged readers 🤭
The story line is basically a vigilante seeks revenge on men who disrespect and abuse females. As such there are scenes of blood, g0re, body fluids and a few peens in the mix literally 🤣 I found it most entertaining and actually not as dark as some erotic horrors I’ve read, quite enjoyed it tbh 🤪
Well what did I just read? My first book of this author and I didn’t hate it! What a wild short ride that was 🤣 I enjoyed the storyline and how she hated men 🤣 If you’re into dark, smutty, horror then this is deffo for you!
Quick read, definitely a DARK romance (smutty) thriller 😬 The title had me questioning this book, reading it has me questioning everything I thought I knew.
