I have often been asked to review self-help books, which seems a little strange to me in that while I spend a lot of time helping people through their personal struggles, self-help books have never been a type of book I lean towards. Earlier this month, I receive an advanced readers’ copy of this book and have just finished reading it. A friend also received an ARC, so I'm using this for the 52 Book Club 2024: #19 A Buddy Read.

In my own life, I’ve spent a lot of time dealing with my own attachment style and talking with others about theirs, especially in my role as a chaplain in psychiatric units in hospitals. I have been keeping my eyes open for a book that helps people understand attachment styles and how to heal from childhood experiences that have led to unproductive attachment styles.

This book presents the framework of attachment theory in a clear, well referenced, and easy to understand manner. It then helps the read explore their own attachment style and provides helpful exercises to help heal childhood wounds.

The case studies, workbooks, and summaries of each chapter are very helpful. I recommend this book to anyone looking to explore their attachment styles.
