Mobster Mayhem #2

Who Said Witness Protection Was Boring?

Rate this book
MATTHEW
It was supposed to be a quiet night of gaming. But then the power went out. No biggie—it happens here in Queens.
So, I went to grab food. That’s when everything went to hell.
My house was attacked. My aunt handed me a mysterious box, told me a code phrase and sent me running into the night to a secret meeting spot. There, I was supposed to wait for the call.
It came. Oh, did it. And with it a giant masked man who claimed he’s here to save me.
I tried to fight him—I’m suspicious by nature. But the only big thing about me is my mouth.
And besides, once he explained everything and took off that mask?
Yeah, you bet I’m seducing that hottie.

KIERAN
Code Molniya. I never expected to hear that name again. But on the night it happens, I’m ready for it. It’s my only chance to get to the bottom of my parents’ accident and I’m not letting it slip.
They were CIA agents like me, and there is more to their death than the Agency is willing to share.
So, I must take things into my own hands. And that includes the sassy, conspiracy-loving disaster of a witness that I get tasked with protecting. He’s shameless, a handful, and a bit crazy. He’s the first man I find cute. And he believes me. So, when he offers a trade that benefits us both, I don’t think twice.
The only caveat? The CIA can’t know what we are up to or we’ll both end up in jail.

This low angst, action-mystery romance features secret services idiots to lovers, bi-awakening, size-difference, sass, hurt/comfort, slow-ish burn to spice and two men who are perfect for each other. It is part of the Mobster Mayhem series and can be read as a stand alone.

Matthew is living his life when his place that he shares with his aunt and uncle loses power . And then ACTION. There’s a small object he has to protect at all costs , Russians and a mysterious sexy authoritative man.

What had Aunt Chrissy and Uncle Gordon gotten themselves into ?

CIA Agent Kieran Stevenson is the hot stranger and Matthews Aunt and Uncle were operatives as well.

“Matt hesitates before he enters the elevator. I board it last. “Uh, so… You’ll answer my questions. And you will protect me. But, in exchange, you want me, a civilian, to help you in your obviously very dangerous operation by being bait for the bad guys?”

Kieran ends up being Matthews security detail in the witness protection program.

Sexy bantering, hot chemistry but things need to be kept professional.

Obviously that doesn’t last for long.

“I love you, Ki. And I can’t wait to do all the things we couldn’t do while we were under house arrest.” I scrunch my nose. “And while we had to pretend we were on strictly professional terms.”
He kisses my head. “I love you too, Matt. And I hope you are ready because your rose-tinted life as my boyfriend is about to begin.”

This book has romance, suspense, action, mystery and a happy ever after.

ARC review

This was so good, I loved it.
I loved the first one and this one was no diferent.
Matthew needed someone to lean on after what happened and Kieran was the perfect person for the job.
Kieran tried to resist Matthew but that didn't last long. He wanted him so he went and got him.
Neither of them was looking for anything but they found everything with each other

ARC REVIEW!

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up.

MM romance
MMC 1- Matt
MMC 2-Kieran

This book was hilarious. Very witty author. I laughed out loud several times. One time I was in the sauna at the gym--EMBARRASSING.

This is a very safe romance. Bi awakening for one of our MMCs. Neither manhoes (but Matt totally pretends to be. Little man syndrome and all). Matt is a video game loving 5'5" smartass. He was the MVP in this book. Kieran was our character who always thought he was straight ....and then he met Matt. I really liked the plot and I thought the dialogue was hilarious-- I didn't think there was much development of their relationship. Felt like Kieran went from "only liking women" to kissing Matt out of nowhere. He did say he'd kissed a guy in HS but that was it. It just sort of went from 0-100. I prefer more slow burn/Angst/internal battles.

Overall, it was a sweet and funny MM romance!

This action packed m/m romance is hilarious!

The authors know how to balance the action with tons of humor, as Matt and Kieran have the snarkiest banter! But also there is some really sweet moments between the two of them! Matt is gay, but Kieran gets to experience his bisexual awakening and it was fun to see him fall for sassy Matt as he is the more serious character.

The mystery of Matt's aunt is engaging and paced well, with a happy ending for our couple!

Having read J.F. Miev before, I knew to expect a playful and lighthearted tone, but Who Said Witness Protection Was Boring? exceeded my expectations with its clever mix of espionage and MM romance. The title itself perfectly encapsulates the book’s atmosphere—action-packed yet irresistibly fun and cheeky.

The story follows Matthew, whose last living relatives have been murdered, leaving him under the protection of Kieran, a steadfast CIA agent. From the get-go, the dynamic between Matthew and Kieran sparkles with charisma and wit. Matthew is an absolute scene-stealer: full of bravado, seemingly in control, and thoroughly endearing. Despite Kieran being the trained agent, Matthew often feels like the one running the show, which adds an engaging and unexpected twist to their relationship.

Under the nose of the CIA, the duo embarks on a rogue mission to solve the mystery of Matthew's aunt’s death, plunging headfirst into danger and intrigue. The pacing is spot-on, with high-stakes action balanced beautifully by moments of warmth, humor, and emotional connection. The banter between Matthew and Kieran is as gripping as the espionage plot, making their romance all the more satisfying.

J.F. Miev masterfully blends fast-paced chases, undercover escapades, and sweet romantic moments into a story that feels fresh and exciting. And let’s not forget Matthew’s dream of taming a “metal monster” bike—a fun, recurring motif that showcases his quirky personality.

Overall, this book hits the sweet spot between action and romance. It’s heartwarming, playful, and thoroughly entertaining. Whether you’re an espionage fan, a romance enthusiast, or both, Who Said Witness Protection Was Boring? is an absolute delight. Highly recommended!

Matty and Kieran had me cackling through out the whole book. Matty had my heart from the beginning! He was just so true to himself and I just couldn’t help but love him for it. And of course Kieran couldn’t help but fall for his charm. These two just absolutely were perfect for each other. There was so much action and suspense along side the romance and it worked perfectly. It kept you on the edge of your seat while adding comedic elements. For those of you who enjoy bi awakening, sassy MCs and Overprotective heroes then this is definitely the book for you.

* I received an arc of this book and this is my honest review *

This was a lil OTT but I enjoyed it alot. Matthew and Kieran was connected from the beginning in more ways than one. I absolutely love Matthew snark and Kieran coolness. These guys were about the same age and I love how well they clicked. The mystery and the drama kept it a page turner. The romance between the two was a treat. I absolutely LOVED all the cute names Kieran gave Matthew...hilarious. Fun read...I recommend.

Who Said Witness Protection Was Boring? Is the second book in the Mobster Mayhem series. This is the story of Matthew and Kieran. I love the light hearted writing style of J.F. Miev and this book was no different. I loved the characters and the espionage elements in the story. I love how the more intense stuff is broken up with the lighter elements of the MM romance. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

DNF around 45% - skimmed up to 52%

You know what is boring? This book! Good grief. Everything starts off so well, but once the initial danger passes, it starts going downhill fast. This had the makings of some excellent hurt/comfort and possessive/obsessive/protective vibes, but the authors miss those marks big time. Huge missed opportunities. There is so little emotion coming from either MC that I just couldn’t connect with them, and they read as dull and boring. And also a little cold, tbh. Matt has zero emotional reaction to his aunt and uncle being murdered. MURDERED! Because, apparently, it’s more important for him to seduce the hot CIA agent instead of mourning the loss of his last living relatives. The handling of such a traumatizing experience was truly disgusting. After losing his parents, Matt should be DEVASTATED he’s lost his aunt and uncle too. But all he seems to care about is himself and getting the attention of Kieran. He is so blasé about it all that I instantly disliked him.

Kieran isn’t bad, but, again, he’s boring. There’s nothing to him. And his POV doesn’t read like it’s from a 44yo. Not at all. He sounds childish, immature, and inexperienced. I mean, he’s making deals and taking advice from a 22yo that has zero knowledge of anything related to the CIA or Black Ops. Instead of being a strong leader and protector and confident man, he comes across as a bumbling fool that’s willing has no clue what he’s doing. Their chemistry together is also super dull and uninspiring.

I had zero interest in seeing where things went. I just kept stopping to highlight crap that was pissing me off, so I knew it was time to hang it up. I don’t often DNF a book, so when I do, it’s because it’s really bad. Technically, this book is written well with few errors or typos. But the execution, sensitivity, and focus needs a lot of work. There’s also quite a bit of repetition. Oh, well…they can’t all be winners.

Thank you for the ARC. This is my personal opinion of the book, which so far seems to be in the minority.

I definitely went into this thinking it was going to be one thing, and turned out that it was going to be another thing altogether. would I have picked it up if I knew what to expect? Probably not. But I'm not trying to hold it against it.... too much.

I've read 80% of the book while getting a tattoo, and I think it might've muddled the experience for me lol (the book, I mean-- I usually like getting tattoos).

I expected a plot-heavy book with an experienced agent protecting the MC, but instead this is a superficial, tad cringe story with 2 unprofessional horndogs lmao. I have a personal vendetta against bickering like kids in serious situations, and this book was filled to the brim with flirting and hooking up in inappropriate places and situations. Like girl... STAND UP.

I was slowly getting more irritated with the characters the more they seemed incapable of keeping it in their pants (especially Kieran, who I expected to be a professional agent but seemed more like a kid wearing his parent's clothes. He also grew superpowers because he had a good night's sleep? After having the shit beat out of him and being grazed by a bullet the night before?). Like be fr, making out on a crime scene? Having sex while on the run while someone in the same room??? Hooking up while undercover on a plane?????????? GET YOUR SHIT TOGWTHER.

Also the plot was bit half-thought-out, and while I can understand having the romance being the centre of a book, some points seemed thrown together at best. Multiple times the MCs explained their plans to each other and instead of experiencing it first hand (and maybe overcoming some obstacles) we're told "and that's what we did" and being teleported at the location. Like??? I mean, good for you that everything turns out great every time ig??

The "puzzles" were also kinda childish tbh, there were several things not explained at all (like, what happened to that lady whose house they broke into? How did Burke find and follow them to the safehouse? Wouldn't the CIA be able to recognise that the USB stick has been altered with, if only just to copy the contents into another computer? I'm not very savvy mind you, but that seems like something professionals could maybe detect?)

And one last thing, I could not take seriously the change of tone once the MCs got together. For a while it felt like I was reading some omegaversed dark romance with possessive love and grey characters. Um, sorry babes but you're not that guy. You can't pull of these "psychopathic tendencies" without looking like you're 14 and deep. Am I supposed to believe you're morally grey because you want to avenge your murdered parents and you're on the run from a corrupted government? Not trusting the authorities doesn't make you a grey character, you're just a reasonable person.

With all these being said, I can understand why people would enjoy this book, and ig that's good enough for 3⭐

Another day, another ARC. Here's Aria Clark and JF Miev's "Who Said Witness Protection Was Boring?". It's the second novel in their Mobster Mayhem series.

Kay, listen. You can claim to be straight all you want, Kieran, but that entire first chapter of your POV was basically about Matt’s pout and how confusingly adorable he was. And his eyes/hair. So keep telling yourself you’re not attracted to him (and his sass).

But really, these two were adorable as hell, both enamored from the very start, protective as hell, and soooo soft for each other. They were partners in crime and best friends (and soul mates).

I love how silly and over-the-top it was, how slightly unrealistic it was. It was filled with action and mystery and friendship. It was beautiful.

Also, took me FOREVER (and more) to figure out the connection between the first book and this one. Kieran already spoiled it (a few times) before I fully connected all the dots. I'm calling the it's-been-a-while card.

Trigger Warnings: brief non-graphic flashbacks of past trauma (home invasion), violence, guns, death of loved ones, and more.

4⭐ 3.5🌶 4.5 ❤

I really enjoyed this book. I will say it may not be for everyone, some people may find it cringy and awkward. I for one am a kind of cringy and awkward person so I loved this!
In this story we have our two MMC's Matt and Kieran and they meet in a very high stakes situation. Kieran, a CIA agent, is called in to protect Matt and the asset he inherited from his aunt who was also a CIA agent. During the time when Kieran is acting as Matt's protection detail they begin to develop feelings for each other.
I would say that this story is both insta love and a slow burn. Insta love because they fall in love within like a week. Slow burn because they don't have any romantic physical contact until about 50% in but there is a lot of tension and flirting throughout the book.
I loved their romance in this book. The romance is not high stakes but the plot of the book is. I really enjoyed that, the romance had a place in the story but it was not necessary for the plot to move forward. The relationship that the MMC's have is beautiful and awkward and sometimes I did cringe a little but I was smiling and giggling the entire time. I absolutely ate this book up.
This book was a genuinely good time for me, I enjoyed the journey and all of the moments that the MMC's had together. Their romance was believable and I could feel how much they truly cared for each other.
I also enjoyed the writing, it made me laugh with all of the silly pet names they had for each other. There is banter that had me kicking my feet and I really enjoyed it. It felt like a palate cleanser for me after I read a very emotional book, I dove into this and it lifted my mood and gave me what I wanted.
I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of MM romance and also likes a little suspense with their romance. Its fun and mostly lighthearted and just a good time. Happy reading!

4⭐️ 3🌶️
MOOD: lighthearted, mysterious, adventurous
TROPES: bi-awakening, instalust, instalove, hurt/comfort(lite)
GENRES: Contemporary, Action/Adventure, LGBTQ+

MAIN CHARACTERS: Matthew Bauer and Kieran Stevenson

THE GOOD: The overall mystery is engaging. For the most part, the main characters and side characters have distinct personalities. The dynamic between Matthew and Kieran comes across as both humorous and sincere and they do mesh well together. I do like a quick, engaging, and low-angst read every now and then and J.F. Miev delivers that :)
THE NEUTRAL: While I enjoyed this story, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book in the series Who Said Mobsters Were Scary?- this one somehow felt more ridiculous and over the top. The writing also felt a little unbalanced. I expected a slower burn in regards to the romance but the plot also moved unevenly (more so in than in the first book) the first 60-70% of the book it felt like not much was going on and then everything was resolved fairly quickly in the last quarter. I was also expecting Kieran to be a little older until he was designated as 24 just given his involvement in the CIA.
THE MEH: I was expecting instalust I wasn't expecting instalove so that threw me a little. I also walked my dog in Alley Pond Park so I wasn't expecting that location to pop-up, not necessarily bad but it broke my suspension of disbelief for a moment to get so specific when there aren't any other specific locations in Queens mentioned.

Sidenote: It is mentioned that you can read this as a standalone but I wouldn't recommend it.

CW: sexual content, violence, gun violence, death, death of parents, panic attacks, flashbacks related to trauma (non-graphic), voyeurism (light)
DISCLAIMER: I received an advance review copy. This is my honest review.

Wow, this was a quirky, flirty, action packed, hot between the sheets read, with high level conspiracy, CIA, secret codes and formulas, unlikely partners, murders, motorcycles, Japanese mafia, and more twists and turns than you could shake a stick at, a non-stop adventure beginning to end. I feel like I was just part of a crazy action movie with two unlikely characters as the heroes.

Matty was so sassy, a bit crazy, impulsive, ready for anything ( especially seducing Kieran), willing to go to any lengths, while refusing to back down, to find out what happened to his family, yet empathetic and caring when it was needed. Kieran was the cocky, confident CIA agent who finds himself caught up in an operation that had ties to his past, discovering that his straight self actually would give up anything for Matty, willing to risk his career and his life to keep Matt safe. Through many dangerous escapes while they try to get to the bottom of the mystery and meaning of “the asset” and how it ties into events past and present, Kieran and Matt must use their wits, their intuition, and their problem solving skills to survive being hunted while foiling a conspiracy. They also managed to find time to include as many sexy encounters as possible while still eluding their pursuers.

This is a complicated , engaging, exciting and entertaining read with possibly an option for a further story (?) with these two as to what happens next. I’m not sure about that, but it felt to me like the option was open. I would love to know what happened next. If you like crazy adventure with a lot of humor built in, I would recommend this book. It isn’t your average action adventure read.

This was a fun, action packed, over the top at times story and I enjoyed it a lot.

Kieran is a CIA agent who ends up answering the emergency call Matt's Aunt places(who turns out also works for the CIA). He saves Matt, who is in possession of an asset that the CIA really wants. Matt and Kieran decide to work together and try to solve the mystery together and they end up stumbling into more trouble and a big conspiracy and cover up.

This was a lot of fun to read. Kieran kept call Matt every type of pet name imaginable and it kept me cackling all the way through the book. I loved how honest Matt was about wanting to seduce Kieran. Both of their inner monologues were funny and I really enjoyed that. I'm not always on board with insta-lust/love, but it really worked for this story! The book was fast paced and very action packed from the get go. So many things happened to Matt and Kieran in a matter of days. Some parts were over the top, but those made the book even more fun in my opinion. I also really enjoyed how honest they were about their feelings for each other. Matt seemed like a meek person, but he has a vicious side and I loved it when that came out. Kieran was very protective of Matt from the start and I was there for it. Kieran also had no qualms about not being as staright as he thought he was initially.

In the end they end up in Japan, so we get to see Chai and Leo from book 1, which was great.

Read this book if you're in the mood for a fun romcom with a CIA agent and a feisty witness. Laughs and good time guaranteed.

This was awesome! Not only was it funny as all get out but it also had tons of super secret government action that managed to keep you turning the pages, even knowing you had things you were supposed to be up doing.

From almost the very first page, definitely from the first chapter, I was hooked; Matt and his inner dialog tickled the ever loving crap out of me. Even when he was in danger from those chasing him, I still loved it. Then, when Kieran, a CIA agent sent to rescue Matt, came into the picture, the chemistry between the two sent it soaring to the next level. Seriously, a man who’d always assumed himself to be straight and a self proclaimed VERY experienced gay man (he wouldn’t lie to you 😄), they were a match for the ages!

This is actually book two in the Mobster Mayhem series and the first one I’ve read; I didn’t realize it until the end but I already own book one, Who Said Mobsters Were Scary but had never read it. After meeting the MCs from that one in the final chapter, however, I’m gonna have to go back and read it. Based on the blurb and what I’ve read here, it promises to be a hoot too. If you’ve done the same thing I did, don’t worry, this can totally be read as a standalone with no loss of enjoyment or understanding. Wherever you start, I just recommend you start SOMEWHERE, I feel sure you’ll enjoy them like I did in whatever order you read them. 5 stars!!!

This book is non stop go-go-go.
From action scenes to wtf is happening, it kind of does it all.
The MCS legit never get to rest, especially when they realize they hold the key unlocking their own pasts. That's right, not just one MC has some questionable life changes. They both are intertwined together loss and grief.

when entering into the first chapter of the book, you get swept away in what you think is the main plot of the book. Ans while you are a bit right... there are so many twists in turns that it's hard to figured out which way is up or down.

Matt is smol sassy man with no luck on his side it seems. When the unthinkable happens and he has to rely on the help of a complete stranger.... his very sassy side comes out full force.

Kieran is at the right place at the right time, although he doesn't think so. What he least expects is that he will be linked together by an over the top smol sassy man... that can actually get him answers.

Oh and did I mention bi-awakening. Matt, though over the top, really does it for Kieran. Fighting through their physical attraction just pulls the threads of fate tighter.

The men struggle through figuring out who to trust and wth is actually happening. Bringing in new friends and old friends alike.

Book 2 does a great job tying it into book 1 seamlessly. It also sets up perfectly on track for book 3 which I'm stoked about.

Matthew/Matt, as well as his aunt and uncle, are attacked in their home one night. Matt's aunt sends him running to a meeting spot with a phone, a code word, and a box containing an important item. Kieran, a CIA agent, receives the call and appears at the secret spot to save Matt and the mysterious item. Kieran is officially assigned to protect Matt. The two soon find themselves growing closer and trying to survive against the bad guys, as they begin their own secret, independent investigation. Will they both survive the dangers ahead, or are they in way over their heads?

Aria Clark has done it again! Matt and Kieran have become a favorite couple among my recent reads. Their playful, flirty banter made me laugh and snicker throughout the book. I love a sassy MC, and Matt fit that role perfectly! Kieran, who thought himself straight until very recently, was a perfect protector and partner for Matt. Expect a wonderful blend of sweet, sassy, and spicy interactions between them.

I don't have many complaints about this book. I wanted to see more of the MCs in their roles at the end, and I would have liked to see more of Adrian, Chai, and Leo. Maybe in a future installment (Please!)?

Expect a fun mixture of action, romance, and humor with this one. It's a solid 4.5/5 stars for me.

.F. Miev's Who Said Witness Protection Was Boring? (Mobster Mayhem: Book 2) is a high-energy blend of action, humor, and LGBTQ+ romance that keeps readers on their toes. The story follows Matthew Bauer, whose life is upended when his last living relatives are murdered, landing him in witness protection. Under the watchful eye of Kieran Stevenson, a steadfast CIA agent, Matthew's new life is anything but boring.

Matthew, described as a scene-stealer full of bravado, finds himself in increasingly absurd situations. Despite Kieran's training, Matthew often feels like the one running the show, adding an engaging and unexpected twist to their relationship. Together, they embark on a rogue mission to solve the mystery of Matthew's aunt's death, plunging headfirst into danger and intrigue under the nose of the CIA.

Miev masterfully balances suspense and comedy, creating a fast-paced narrative filled with tension, unexpected twists, and sizzling chemistry. The banter between Matthew and Kieran is as gripping as the espionage plot, making their romance all the more satisfying. Fans of found family, protective lovers, and action-packed storytelling will love this thrilling and hilarious sequel. Miev masterfully blends fast-paced chases, undercover escapades, and sweet romantic moments into a story that feels fresh and exciting.

This is another great story by the author. This is book two of the Mobster Mayhem Series. Each book can be read as a standalone. In the beginning there is so much confusion that Matt doesn't know what to think. When he meets Kieran he relaxes a little, but is very demanding of the CIA Director. There is a mystery that needs to be solved.

CIA
Bi-awakeing
Mystery
Devious MMC's

Matt is pulled into Witness Protection due to his aunt and uncle being in the CIA and she handed him a very demanded item then sent him out the door to safety. He was rescued by CIA Agent Kieran. Agent Kieran was not suppose to be on duty the night Matt was in danger. Kieran finds himself attracted to Matt and he doesn't understand why he is affected so much. He swears he is only into women. He tries to deny the attraction between him and Matt.

Will Matt be safe with Kieran? Will they figure out the mystery before the CIA? Does Matt's aunt and uncle's death relate to Kieran's parents death? What will they uncover about themselves by working together? Will they get caught working behind the CIA's back by going rogue? Is there a mole in the CIA? What will the duo expose about the CIA? Will they become a couple? So many good questions that can only be answered by finishing the story! So let's finish reading to find out!

The most fun I had reading a book in a while!

Matt is a smart mouth, sassy and flirty college student who finds himself in danger when his aunt is killed.

Kieran is a CIA agent who is sent to save Matt from the people that killed his aunt. Kieran wasn’t supposed to be there, but who says things always go as planned?

Matt’s witty and can outsmart even the smartest of them. His short stature and sweet face make him look like an angel but behind that sweet fasçade,
you’ll find claws as sharp as a lion’s.

Matt storms into Kieran’s life turning it upside down in the best of ways. His light, energy and strength are exactly what Kieran didn’t know he needed.

This book was so much fun to read. It’s one of those books that instantly become a favorite reread. Kieran and Matt’s chemistry was amazing. They both were each other’s comfort zone and rely on each other to be safe.

The way they work together as a team to unravel the conspiracy around them, makes the story super entertaining and exciting. Matt’s quick thinking and charm makes it more enjoyable because Matt’s no damsel in distress.

Low angst, thrilling, steamy and a happy ending. You’ll laugh and smile from ear to ear.

Who said that running for your life wasn’t romantic and fun?🤭

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 2 in the Mobster Mayhem series, and I have not read book 1. I didn't think I was missing anything, honestly, until Leo and Chai turn up in this book and now I wanna read their story!

While the undertone of this book is dark, people are killed keeping the secrets that Matt and Kieran are discovering, the general tone is light and fluffy and these guys are a lot of fun.

Matt and Kieran find themselves on the run from the CIA and Lord knows who else, cos Matt's aunt and uncle are keeping an asset for the CIA. The CIA! Matt is dumbfounded when he discovers that his auntie and uncle, and indeed, his parents, have been keeping such secrets from him, but when he finds himself wound up in it all, he understands.

I did NOT see the twist with Kieran's parents coming at me, so well played with that one!

And you know what?? I did not realise its first person, present tense AND multi point of view until I was filing it, so SUPER well with that!

From what I can see, this is the first I've read of these authors, so they are firmly in my crosshairs!

4 fun and flirty stars

What a fun romp. Bad guys CIA Action/adventure idiots to lovers with plenty of sass. Kieran was CIA newbie, searching for answers to how his CIA parents died. Amassing documents he was not supposed to have, he was someplace he was not supposed to be when he answered a rescue phone call from agents under attack. Rushing off to rescue a civilian who was handed an important package he struggles to get 5’5” Matthew under control so he can help him escape the assassins chasing them. Matt may be small but he is plenty feisty and he wants to know what this is all about. Sitting in the CIA field office, Matt is supposed to hand off the package his Aunt Chrissy gave him, but the Deputy Director gives him a bad feeling so he pretends he stashed the package until he is sure he can trust someone. Telling the DD he won’t turn the package over unless Keiran is assigned as his bodyguard, they end up in a safe house for the night where the two of them agree that something is rotten. Of course it will also be fun to seduce Kieran while they are working out their next move. And they end up on the run for their lives. This is book 2 in the Monster Mayhem series and I can’t wait to jump back and read book 1.

Matthew just discovered his aunt was CIA. His home is blown up and he’s the run with Kieran, who may or may not be an agent. All the CIA wants from him is the package his aunt gave right before she shoved him out the door. The people he’s dealing with have never matched wits with a genuine BRAT. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

I really liked Matt. His snark and inner monologues were at times, laugh out loud funny. Kieran was a good character also. His denial of attraction to Matt was doomed from the start. I felt that Kieran’s character wasn’t as well thought out as Matt’s though. His thoughts were stilted in places and didn’t seem flow as well.

The action was interesting and varied. Matt’s obsession with motorcycles were some of the best moments in the book. Once the men worked through the foreplay, the story was pretty spicy.

The bad guys weren’t a surprise so that part of the story didn’t have a lot of impact for me. They managed to extract themselves from danger fairly easy also. Doesn’t sound like it from my review but overall I enjoyed the book.

This was a fun book to read

Shaking my head, i wrap my fingers around his just as he's about to eat more food, then I guide his spoon to my mouth. There are way too many raisins for my liking, but his wide-eyed expression as his lips curve into a sexy little smile is worth it.

Kieran is such a sweet dude. I actually enjoyed how he handled the discovery of his updated sexuality. I half expected him to be like 'no, I'm straight 'til the end' for half the book but no, the author was like 'shh... I'm going to surprise you, sweetheart.'

"Matthew," I chide, letting my voice come out stern and authoritative.
"Oh, fuck. Don't do that or I'll pop another boner."

Absolutely enjoyed how shameless Matt was. I need a friend like Matt who is all confidence and snark yet has no experience to back him up. I found this quite endearing and hilarious because almost 99% of the time he would be flustering Kieran and seducing him but when things get serious and real he wouldn't chicken out. No, he would just give a heads up and be like, 'actually I lied but don't stop what you're doing'.

"Feeling shy?"
"Who me?" I huff a snort and wave him off. "Please. I'm just being considerate, agent. Wouldn't want you facing a disciplinary because you couldn't keep your hands off the hot witness."

This couple will forever live rent-free in my head. Their banter and the sexual tension between them? Yes, my heart fluttered on more than one occasion. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this, to be honest, since I don't necessarily lean towards mysteries but there was a balance between the romance and the mystery that had me so engrossed that by the time I finished I still wanted more.

The story centers on Matthew, who recently learns that his aunt was a CIA operative. Following the destruction of his home, he finds himself on the run alongside Kieran, whose true allegiance remains uncertain.

In a daring move, the duo embarks on a covert mission to uncover the truth surrounding Matthew's aunt's death, immersing themselves in a world of peril and intrigue.

Throughout the book, Matty and Kieran provided a source of constant amusement, evoking laughter with their dynamic. Their relationship is both protective and tender, filled with humor & adventure as they navigate their roles as partners in crime.

From the very beginning, Matty captured my heart with his authenticity, making it impossible not to adore him!

🌶🌶🌶

This is Book 2 in the Mobster Mayhem series. They are stand alones so do not need to be read in order except there are Cameos in book 2 so I would recommend reading them in order so you know who everyone is

This book was was just pure entertainment. The plot with the mystery had me hooked right away. The search for clues and everything just had it so I couldn't put this book down until it was finished!

Matt meets Kieran after he saves his life from who he though was burglars during a home invasion. It turns out there is something far more nefarious going on and Matt and Kieran team up to get to the bottom of this conspiracy. While the two are working together they realize that they just click, well after some very minor hesitation from Kieran but honestly he never stood a chance 🤣 Every time Kieran used a different pet name for Matt I melted inside there were so many but Gremlin King might be my favorite. These two were just perfection together I literally couldn't have asked for more in a book couple. I loved how Leo and Chai also made an appearance from the first book 🖤 I cannot wait to see where this series goes I am officially hooked!

A mix of espionage, action, and MM romance wrapped in humor! The book kicks off with Matthew’s life imploding—his family is murdered, his home is destroyed, and suddenly, he’s under the protection of Kieran, a CIA agent with his own secrets and mystery. The duo ditches protocol and dives headfirst into solving the mystery of Matthew’s aunt’s death and the mysterious package he received. What follows is a rollercoaster of fast-paced chases, undercover shenanigans, and undeniable chemistry. The blend of suspense and romance is just right. I kept turning the pages as fast as possible and enjoying plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Matthew and Kieran’s banter is pure gold—equal parts snarky and sincere—and their growing bond feels natural and engaging. Their dynamic had me grinning from the start, and their rogue mission had just the right balance of danger and fun. With sharp writing, gripping intrigue, and a romance that crackles with tension and humor, this book was an absolute blast to read. I can’t wait to see where the series goes next!

I knew I was going to love this book after only 2 chapters. It starts with a literal bang and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time

We meet Matt who is just adorable. He internal dialogue was so funny and his witty comebacks were so entertaining
After being told to run by his Aunt and keep information out of enemy hands he is saved by Kieran an agent sent to intercept him.

Keiran also has a traumatic past linked to Matt's case, Code Red Molniya, and they agree to work together to try and figure it out which includes stealing classified information and going off to investigate by themselves.

Both of them fall for the other and whilst trying to dig deeper into the situation Matt faces they explore their attraction and sparks fly. It's a bit of a slow burn but so worth the wait

There was all my favourite tropes Instalust, Bi-awakening, possessive MC , exhibitionism

It was an excellent read and is even better than Book 1 in the series

I received an ARC from GRR but my thoughts are my own
