About the author

Maggie Francis

Maggie Francis writes cozy paranormal romance. What’s that you ask? Why, it’s a lot like if Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the Gilmore Girls had a sexy lovechild. We’re talking hunky werewolves, sassy witches and a cast of other supernatural side characters that make you laugh as you witness the shenanigans they get up to and enjoy the banter that comes along with an overactive imagination.

Maggie started writing as a way to joyfully escape into a world where magic is real, heroines save themselves and heroes come with a tall side order of Yes Please. Eliza Falls is a place to let the worries of the world fall away and let the romance of a fated mate and the cozy connection of a found family swoon you off your feet.

Maggie lives in Victoria BC with her own Happily Ever After, a couple of rad kids and a doodle dog. When she’s not writing her next ridiculous romp, she’s hunched over her jewellery bench like a sparkly gremlin listening to inappropriate podcasts and dreaming up beautiful things.

in short: i loved it, even with all anguish and pain we felt in our MC, it still was deliciously sexy and fun.
and this man knows how to go down <3

I was promised romance and magic and love godsdammit, and I . . . don’t know what to do now. He wasn’t supposed to leave.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5
What a cute and emotional story we’ve got.

Xanthe is a girl who is part succubus and part wolfshifter, i would say it’s an interesting mix. So our girl is finally old enough (70+yo) and now it’s her time to leave Hell and try to find her place and mate. So she is going to Earth and lucky girl appeared near Eliza Falls.

While our lady is in the forest and her wolf is trying to capture all the scents, all the light she’d got the feeling that her mate is close. Unfortunately when she crossed the road she was hit by the man in a car (her mate? For sure, but we are still injured). And this starts the story of finding and accepting love, cause Eamon is a man with troubled past and more importantly he has power to make people feel certain way, so he can’t be sure if the emotions and feelings from Xanthe is genuine one or he is affecting her.

And this part was both sweet and bitter, there were moments where he was so close to finally accepting her words and everything, but next moment he blinked and decided to distance himself from everything. So as a result we have cute but sad story where you can’t tell what will happen next.

I loved that Xanthe found family (kinda) and place where people are so open and friendly and caring, and i loved how Eamon’s struggles were described and how our girl suffered from this hot/cold treatment.
Also all old characters appeared on the pages of this book and it was so lovely to met them and see how their lifes and author treated them.

After being lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, I binged the entire Eliza Falls series by Maggie Francis, and they are incredible books. His Devil May Care can easily be read as a standalone, however there are so many characters and inside jokes woven through the previous books that it makes for a very entertaining read to start from the beginning!

"We just met and I still don’t trust that my magic hasn’t hoodwinked her somehow. How can she possibly be interested in a life with me? Love at first sight isn’t real. No matter how much I wish it was."

Finally, Eamon gets his story :) And who better to match up with the empath of all empaths than a succubus-shifter with no filter who literally requires orgasms to live!!!

I have been a big fan of the Eliza Falls characters since book 1 and while the other books had more of a slow burn to them, Xanthe tosses all of that out the window as she wholly embraces her sexual being and literally proposed jumping Eamon's bones within moments of meeting him. While Eamon's last relationship casts a shadow over this new budding pairing, there is no doubt that these two are a match made in the realms.

Maggie Francis is one of the best storytellers I have read. The imagery painted with her words is stunning, with the banter and wit being second to none. It is apparent how much she adores these characters and it is a joy to read her books.

Xanthe & Eamon
*
Yes, me. Let me be whatever you need.
*
Xanthe is finally of age when she can travel through realms, and the obvious choice is the human realm where her Wolf can find her mate. She is extremely lucky to sniff him out right away.
Eamon had a stumble with his magic where he unintentionally made someone feel what he was feeling. So now he is afraid of repeating it again, so he blocks his magic behind walls. But him holding back is hurting his Mate. This guy is such a skilled giver. Shame he didn't take more in the book because that would make her a beacon of light 😉

I flew through pages of this book. It's so well written and easy to read! It has a nice amount of spice and hunky men to keep your interest going. Eamon is such a good guy who just wants what his parents have, and he deserves it all. The book had me hooked from the first page. Oh, to be a powerful succubus with a mother that shares the good stuff.

This was the first book I have read from Maggie and what I can say is that I plan on getting the rest from this series and blazing through them. They did such a great job at the developing the FMC quickly but deeply (I love a long character development BUT this was accomplished in a shorter book which I LOVED). You will love this if you love the following: fantasy, werewolves, witches etc, fated mates, slow burn (not traditional as there is good spice early on but still stands- you will appreciate this when you read it), good guaranteed weekend read. Honestly, this is a hell yes for my recommendation even though it is not a 5/5. A full 5/5 is rare for me, but a 4/5 is a GLOWING recommendation friends!!

When offered the opportunity for a free copy of this book, I gladly accepted.

This one sat in my list for a while. The blurb made it seem weird for some reason… I'm glad that I decided to give it a chance! The first sentence almost made me choke, but at least I knew IMMEDIATELY what I was getting into. It was a fun read, for sure. Poor Xanthe! If Eamon could have just pulled his head out of his rear sooner, everything would have been so much easier for them both. And, Kevin sure was a "treat", wasn't he? My biggest problem was that they all kept referring to themselves as "werewolves", but they are wolf shifters. That's a big difference!

After reading this one, I think that I am going to have to reread Of Mates and Magic, because for some reason I am drawing a blank…

Another great addition to the Eliza Falls series!! I have really enjoyed all the books so far and I’m so excited for Eamon to get his own book and chance at love! I love our FMC Xanthe! She is just so full of life and says exactly what she’s thinking. The total opposite of Eamon, but the perfect match. The side characters give great pizazz to the storyline and I’m excited to see returning characters as well. Great level of spice and a heart wrenching storyline. You can read this as a standalone but the whole series is awesome so check it out! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

I got this for free to read and review and dang I'm absolutely tickled pink.

I laughed so hard through a good portion of this book, I had an idea of what to expect but I'm pleased that this actually exceeded my expectations.

Discovering this was a standalone in a series, I was a little nervous that I would feel very confused about the world, the magic and the townsfolk, but the author is fantastic at making you feel as though you're a fly on the wall experiencing the delicious chaos that is a succubus with zero social boundaries who just wants a little Lovin.

I cannot wait to read the other books, I'm so excited to fully enter the world of Eliza Falls!

This was a sweet and very sexy story.
I loved the openness of Xanthe. I wish more people were like that!
I felt sorry for Eamon. He was causing himself unnecessary pain. He needed someone like Xanthe to brighten and lighten his day. I thought they made a lovely couple.
This story made me laugh, with the baking fiascos and the culinary experimentation. I also loved Xanthe’s grumpy younger brother, Kevin. I would love to read his story as well.
This is the first story I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last.

4.5 stars rounded up!

I love this series. Each book has been enjoyable in their own ways.
This story was no different! It was a low angst, spicy treat for my eyes!
Xanthe was great fun, her effervescent nature was so cute and fun! Mixed with Eamon’s surliness meant they were a match made in heaven.

This was a good story but it took too long to get where it was going.

An explanation - this series of books are about fated mates finding each other, accepting the mate bond and claiming their mates. This claiming is accomplished by consummating the relationship - i.e., sexual intercourse and the biting of one's mate.

In this book Eamon is locked into his own guilt because he had a relationship with a woman for three years only to discover he was making her feel what she thought she felt for him. He's a spirit witch with empathic abilities, only instead of feeling what others are feeling, he pushes his feeling out. Upon discovering that she didn't really have feelings for him, she was angry and hurt and he suffered heartbreak of his own.

So in this story he meets his fated mate but doesn't trust that what she feels are her real feelings and not his being projected into her. This causes all kinds of problems and hurt feelings. And TONS of angst! I read through this whole book only to have to wait until the last few pages before the numbskull saw the light and they finally completed the mate bond. And that was the end, except for a tacked on epilog that wasn't really necessary.

To give credit where credit is due, this was a very well written book and it flowed smoothly even as it aggravated me. I didn't have any warm fuzzies when it ended though so I'm only giving it three stars.

Do you like small town setting?
If yes, you cannot miss this incredible series of Maggie Francis ❤️

This fifth book is as incredible as the other 4. I was so happy to be able to come back to this small town and meet our past characters again and finally get to know Eamon more. And of course meeting our amazing Xanthe ! Xanthe is a succubus-wolf hybrid who takes an interdimensional journey to go find her mate. Amazingly, the venture is easier than expected and the first person she meets in the human world is Eamon himself. Xanthe immediately recognizes him as her life partner and is so happy that she is not afraid to show her feelings and do anything for him. Xanthe is so full of life, confident, lively, sincere and unabashed. In particular, I loved Xanthe's relationship with Eamon's father. So sweet and sincere ❤️

Eamon is an empath and is so afraid that his power will affect the feelings of others that he shuts down his emotions.
This is one of the few books in which it is the MMC that is insecure. I felt so sorry for Eamon, his insecurity doesn't let him explore his feelings and doesn't let him fully experience this love with Xanthe.
Fortunately, there are all the friends (whom we know so well from the previous books) who reason and help this amazing new couple..
Another new side character it is Xanthe's brother, Kevin.
I am so curious about him..I wonder if the next book will be about him ;)

A cozy reading, small town setting, fated mate trope, paranormal RomComs, dual POV and 🔥🔥 : you will find this and more in His Devil May Care.

As with every book in this series, I laughed so hard and also got so emotional. I thank Maggie Francis so much for eARC. All thoughts are my own.

Tropes/Themes: succubus/wolf shifter, fated mates
Dual POV 1st person

This book was a struggle for me. I didn’t hate it, but I never totally got into it, and there was a lot that I was confused/had questions about. The biggest issue I had was Eamon constantly talking about his reasons for not fully giving into the mate bond/relationship. In the context of the story it was a valid concern but he talked about it over and over. Possibly this was to create tension and angst? But to me it just came across as repetitive.

Xanthe as a character was hilarious in her naivety, and she’s very sweet and endearing at first but after a while I just found myself cringing. (“where are my vibrators?!” 😩😩😩😩) And I really do get that that’s the point of her character being a sex demon/succubus but maybe I just wasn’t prepared for all that. I’m not a prude but I guess I sound like a prude here LOL.

The time frame and living situations also confused me- not like “what is the time frame” but the realization that the whole story takes place over approx 48 hours. I know mating bonds are fast but…I’m not sure how to explain this lol. But also, where does he live? Why aren’t they trying harder to get her clothes?

Along with that, maybe I didn’t pay enough attention but there seemed to be very little build up to the 3rd act drama- like no foreshadowing about the character. That’s the best spoiler free explanation I can give about it. There was a tiny bit- like how Eamon kept feeling like he was being watched, but that was essentially it. Or his sudden 180 because of how his actions are affecting her.

It just felt like a really “long” story where not much happened at all. I mean, it’s only 240 some pages but it took me over 5 days to get through.

ARC Review
This is the 5th book in the charming Eliza Falls series and while the previous volume left me a little less beguiled than the first 3, the magic is definitely back in this story! This one follows a newish character, a male witch and his shiny brand new half succubus, half wolf shifter girlfriend and we get to see all of the original characters included too!

This is by far the spiciest book in the series! Xanthe the half succubus sees to that with her energy dependent upon pleasure! 😆 I loved her, she's gorgeous but very sweet and cute while confident and unashamed of her body, which creates more shenanigans. Eamon is our hero, a sensitive, quiet soul who has the magic to influence others emotions, he's a chronic overthinker and worries constantly that the instant mate bond they share is actually his magic causing her to like him. There's a Lot of steamy scenes almost back to back but the actual 'deed' isn't done until the end of the book. He can however use his magic in very special ways which I don't think I've come across in any other book so far!

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I did feel some of Eamon's incessant worrying could have been trimmed back a bit, a little repetitive. The middle of the story feels like, as good as it is with all the spice and romance, it doesn't move much but later on there's danger and drama that introduces a new character that I'm sure will be a handful in a future volume!

I always love and recommend this series and this is another winner! I loved getting a more unique species like the succubus included!

HIS DEVIL MAY CARE is the fifth book in the Eliza Falls series. It could be read as a standalone, but there are characters from previous books in here.

Xanthe is a seventy-five-year-old succubus/shifter who is on her first trip to Earth. As soon as she arrives, she smells her Mate and runs to be by his side. Unfortunately for her, he's driving a van at the time and so she is injured. Now, Eamon has had trouble with his empath side in the past and doesn't believe Xanthe when she says she is his Mate, thinking it is his wants and desires she is feeling.

This story is so well told, giving you insights into both sides of Xanthe's person, as well as Eamon's insecurities and the reasons why. This book, although full of steam… she is a succubus, after all… manages to give off a cosy vibe, especially with the supporting characters who help so much.

A great addition to the series that I definitely recommend. I look forward to continuing with this series and, hopefully, seeing Kevin's story in the not too far future.

** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

His Devil May Care by Maggie Francis is the fifth book in the Eliza Falls book series.
The books are standalone paranormal romcoms set in a connected world.
If you love quirky humor 🤪, unexpected pairings 💘, and a mix of heart ❤️ and steam 🔥, this one delivers!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

🖤 The Story & Characters
Xanthe, a succubus/werewolf hybrid 🐺🔥, comes to Earth to find her True Mate. She’s both naïve and refreshingly uninhibited, embracing life and love with a confidence that’s infectious.

Eamon, a witch with empathic magic 🪄, has been burned by his powers before and now fears he might be influencing Xanthe’s feelings. His struggle with trust—both in himself and in their connection—creates great tension and emotional depth. 💔

Their romance is fun, steamy, and layered with self-discovery. The dynamic between them felt unique, and I really enjoyed how their personalities clashed and complemented each other. 🥰

😂 A Delightfully Weird and Fun Ride
This book was different in the best way—quirky 🤩, hilarious 🤭, heartfelt 💖, and just the right amount of sexy 🔥. Maggie Francis has a knack for mixing humor with emotional moments, making this an addictive read.

That said, I did wish for a bit more drama to heighten the stakes. The slow journey toward communication and finally accepting their bond felt drawn out, and I found myself impatient for them to just talk it out already! 😅

🌟 Star of the Book - Gary 🌟
description
Gary, the bobcat 🐆, completely stole the show. His introduction had me laughing out loud:
“Is he a Maine Coon?” I ask. Eamon snorts softly, a quick exhalation of sound that feels like candy in my soul.
“Ah, no. He’s a bobcat actually.”
That scene was absolute gold ✨. Xanthe’s instant love for him made the moment even better! 🥹🐾

💭 Final Thoughts
His Devil May Care is a weirdly wonderful book full of humor 🤪, heart ❤️, and unexpected connections 💞. If you enjoy paranormal romcoms that don’t take themselves too seriously but still deliver emotional depth, this one is worth picking up! 📚✨

Two empathic magical beings try to find love, and their abilities are always up to something.

Read if you like: romcom; magical small-town romance; paranormal romance; witches, shifters,
and more, oh my; fated mates; first love; sunshine/sunshine; cozy settings; and spice!

Eamon doesn’t trust his empathic witch magic after it ruined his last relationship. It’s hard to know how people truly feel when your magic affects their mood. Xanthe a half demon half wolf decides to go to the mortal world to find her Mate. When they meet Xanthe is all in and Eamon won’t trust his heart. As they try to figure out the magic between them, they must learn to love each other with all of their secrets.

Y’all! This is one of the sweetest couples I’ve read in a while. The equally sunshiny pair make the story so fun and cozy. I want to hang out with them and Gary and the rest of the Eliza Falls crew. I absolutely love Eamon and Xanthe’s journeys as individuals with baggage. But navigating their unique connection has you swooning and laughing and oh-so-worried that they’ll never get out of their own heads.
His Devil May Care is a breath of fresh air and I hope you’ll join me in Eliza Falls for all the fun times in this magical slice of life series.

This author is great at world-building. Xanthe is half succubus and half wolf-shifter. She passes through a magical gate when she reaches adulthood, leaving the hell domain full. Xanthe is full of naïve, cheerful optimism. She's childishly certain that once she finds her fated mate in her new domain, they'll live happily ever after. Xanthe does find her fated mate very quickly, but his reactions are not what she expected. Eamon is an empath who has some baggage from a prior relationship. He fears that his own powers are influencing Xanthe, so that her connection to him isn't genuine. Their story has lots of magic and adult heat. This book can be read as a stand-alone, although other Eliza Falls characters do reappear. Entertaining adult fantasy! I received an advance copy of this story for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This a really cute paranormal romance. The ups and downs I felt for both Xanthe and Eamon. From their chance meeting in the woods…when he hits her with his van, to him discovering she was a person and not a beautiful wolf, then his feelings for her and his soft rejection of her…damn, the first half of the book was a dang roller coaster but it is an enjoyable one. Xanthe’s continued optimism over her situation and finding her mate is so sweet and contagious. This book is a must if you love a shifter romance, need a moody, semi-helpful little bother who stows away in his sister's luggage and a reluctant witch of a mate who doesn’t trust his own magic. Oh and there’s a HEA at the end, so don’t let Eamon’s reluctance scare you!

I always enjoy visiting Eliza Falls - A magical place filled with quirky characters, it's always a romping good time. In this offering, we meet Xanthe and Eamon.

Xanthe is a succubus werewolf on her first real interdimensional adventure as an adult. She's searching for her mate... who literally runs her over. Eamon is terrified empath scared of his own magic when he runs over a wolf. What could possibly go wrong?

This book has it all: magical mayhem, miscommunication, hysterical intervention from loving friends (including a shapeshifting toddler) and some seriously spicy scenes.

Do yourself a favour and start reading... just not in a public place. The first page had me snorting!

This is the story of the characters Xanthe and Eamon. This is part of the book series and you can read as a standalone but you should read the other one in the series 1st because there are some pieces that I feel would be better suited to the reader if you read the previous books.
The two main characters are magical in the sense of a succubus and a wolf. The men in this book are very steamy and great men in general to read about and I really enjoyed the relationship between our two main characters the author wrote a very good relationship in this book.

I love this author's Eliza Falls series! It is a supernatural small town with so many fun characters. This is number 5 of the series. I only gave it 4 stars because I wanted the book to be longer... the end seemed a bit abrupt. Otherwise, it had a cute couple finding their true love in an idyllic town with lots of laughs per usual for this series. I always look forward to these books coming out and this one did not disappoint!

I really liked seeing all the characters again. They make a great group that truly care about each other. It's great that they all care about the baby as much as they do, too.
The main problem in this book was that the MMC was being too stubborn about his own worries to listen to anyone else. Unfortunately, that started to get a little annoying.
Thank you, Booksirens and Maggie Francis, for the chance to review this book!

What a captivating read! I found it hard to put down when I had to attend to responsibilities.

My heart ached for Eamon and his doubts whether his magic was unintentionally coercing anyone into loving him. Xanthe is such a fascinating creature being a mix of two fantastical creatures. She balances Eamon well and helps him find trust in himself again.

Really enjoyed this story!

This was my first book by this author and I had not read any others in the series. I was able to keep up with the story without any issues. Different than what I expected for sure. This book has multiple elements and multiple POVs (which are kinda my favorite). It is DEFINITELY heavy on the spice with it being more romance than plot. A little different from what I typically read, but still overall engaging. I also liked the element of crossing realms, that was pretty cool.

The "big bad" is emotional disregulation, her younger brother being a nuisance and overcoming past mistakes. This book is the length it is due to miscommunication. The miscommunication is taken to the point that Xanthe becomes debilitated. I found both internal monologues to be hilarious but the highlight of it all was the vulva cookies
