Two sisters, torn apart by fate, now stand on opposing sides of a brutal war.
High in the snowy mountains, Alena trains harder than ever under the watchful eye of an Amazon warrior. Driven by her sister’s heartbreaking choice, she’s determined to embrace her destiny as the Omega and fulfil the Mother Goddess’s command—defeat Emperor Tarquinius before his legions conquer the Western Lands and his greed destroys the remnants of the old gods. But when her closest allies are captured and enslaved, Alena’s world descends into chaos. She soon realises her sister’s treachery was only the beginning…
Meanwhile, Katell, now leader of the Black Helmets, battles on the war front against the Ice Kingdoms. Wielding the dangerous magic of Laran’s Tears, she is more powerful than ever, but at a steep cost to her health. When a rescue mission goes awry and she mistakenly attacks a legate, her loyalty to Rasenna is called into question. To prove her worth, Katell is sent to the besieged city of Tiryns with a single end the siege by any means necessary and capture the rebels hiding within its walls.
Under the gods’ unwavering eyes, the sisters’ paths draw them together once more. With loyalty and love hanging in the balance, they will be forced to decide where their true allegiances lie—and what they are willing to sacrifice.

I really just had to take a few days to collect my thoughts and process what an absolute MASTERPIECE this book was. Genuinely, wow. I’m still not over it.
I really liked the first book in this series, but this one just went that times 100. Absolutely beautiful.
I really love the storyline in this series. The worldbuilding is really well developed and built and lays a great foundation for the story to be told. The whole concept in this book is, already from the beginning, interesting. Then it just built up with more and more drama and amazing characters.
So first of all; amazingly written. I’m in love with the language and descriptions and just everything about it. I feel like I’m a part of the story, so that was done incredibly well.
Let me not even talk about THE CHARACTERS!! I love them all. (Well… not all of them. For sure) I do love the complexity of them, though I might not like the personality of them all. They all are incredibly well written and have depth. I didn’t love every character in itself, but I love how real they felt. They have all had grown and incredible character development from the first book. You can really see how much Alena has grown as a person. The romance is so fun and deep and complex all at once.
The plot twists kept me guessing until the end. Just when I thought I had figured everything out, I was once again surprised. Love it!
The pacing was great, as well. Everything happened at the perfect time. Not too fast, not too slow. I was never bored but also never had a hard time catching up.
All in all, this was a GREAT second installment in this series. This series just keeps getting better. I can’t wait for what’s next!!
A huge thanks to the author for sending me an ARC of this beautiful book.
I adored the first book in this series, but somehow, the second manages to be even better. This sequel takes everything that worked before and dials it up to eleven: higher emotional stakes, richer character development, and twists that left me completely floored. It’s a beautifully BRUTAL story about loyalty, love, and the ways grief and power can twist people apart.
The character work here is phenomenal. Every emotion feels earned; you don’t just read about these characters, you FEEL with them. I cried MULTIPLE times, and not because the story manipulates you into sadness, but because the emotions are so raw and so human. The sister dynamic between Alena and Katell is the standout and exactly what grounds the story; it is complex, messy, and layered in ways that make both women phenomenal. Alena is my favorite of the two in this book, but I have no doubt Katell’s arc is going to end up being one of the most satisfying I’ve read in a long time.
Nik continues to shine (he deserves the world). The romances (fingers crossed) are stunning. And the villains… well. They're still the worst, but I appreciate the nuance in their characters. Horrific, yes, but they're more complex than most villains, even if I still want them gone in flames. For such a long book, the pacing is pretty much perfect. There’s never a dull moment, and every chapter adds tension or deepens the relationships in meaningful ways.
My only small gripe is how quickly the addiction subplot resolves; it’s a bit too neat to feel fully believable, though I can forgive it since it’s framed as magical. The emotional outburst by one of the characters at the end also felt slightly hand-wavy, but the overall impact of that scene still landed beautifully. And I get why. Seriously, our girl is going to shine and I cannot WAIT to see it.
This series has completely stolen my heart. When Sisters Collide is the kind of book that leaves you gutted, exhilarated, and DESPERATE for the finale. S.E. Bouvier has crafted something truly special; epic in scope, intimate in emotion, and utterly unforgettable.
Thanks so much to the author and Haus of Fables for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
Title: A Masterclass in Epic Fantasy - These Sisters Will Own Your Heart (and Break It)
Listen, I need to talk about this book because S.E. Bouvier has absolutely outdone herself with When Sisters Collide. If you loved When Gods Fall, buckle up because this sequel takes everything you loved about book one and amplifies it to eleven. 🔥
The Setup: Two sisters. One war. Impossible choices. Alena is high in the snowy mountains, training with the Amazon warrior Phoebe, pushing herself beyond her limits to become the Omega she's destined to be. The Mother Goddess has given her a command: defeat Emperor Tarquinius before his legions obliterate the Western Lands and destroy the last remnants of the old gods. Simple enough, right? Wrong. When her closest allies are captured and enslaved, everything falls apart. And her sister's betrayal? That was just the beginning of a nightmare she never saw coming. Katell (or Viridia, as the Rasennans call her) is the demi-goddess daughter of Laran, the God of War, and the mortal Rebel Queen Andrasta. She's now leading the Black Helmets, fighting on the war front against the Ice Kingdoms while wielding the terrifyingly powerful magic of Laran's Tears. But this magic comes at a brutal cost to her health, slowly destroying her from the inside out. When a rescue mission goes horribly wrong and she accidentally attacks a legate, her loyalty to Rasenna gets questioned. Her orders? Travel to the besieged city of Tiryns and end the siege by any means necessary. Oh, and capture those pesky rebels while she's at it. No pressure. 😰
The Backstory That Kills Me: Can we talk about what happened to Katell? Because this still haunts me. She was betrayed by Dorias Dalmatius, her lover, who handed her over to Emperor Caius Tarquinius (the same tyrant who crushed her mother in Kendrisia). This power-hungry emperor literally drowned her in the black abyss of Laran's Tears, transforming her into the ultimate weapon. But before she went under, Katell made a vow: she would have her revenge and finish what the Rebel Queen started. She would CRUSH him. The imagery here is visceral and devastating. 💔 What makes this so compelling is the contrast between the sisters. Katell is the demi-goddess with immense powers that terrify her so much she suppresses them. She cannot control them, she fears them, and that fear shapes every decision she makes. Meanwhile, Alena is the inheritor of the gifts that truly matter, and she's relentless in her determination to find her sister. When Phoebe brings her to the temple of the mythical Grey-eyed Maiden, Alena finally understands exactly what she's meant to do. Watching her step into this role is absolutely satisfying.
Why This Book Works:
The Dual Narrative: Switching between Alena and Katell's perspectives creates this incredible mounting tension. You know they're on a collision course, and Bouvier expertly ratchets up the stakes with every chapter.
Complex Characters: Neither sister is a straightforward hero or villain. They're both doing what they believe is right, even when those beliefs put them directly at odds with each other. The moral complexity here is chef-level good. 👩🍳
The Magic System: Laran's Tears as a source of power that literally consumes the user? Brilliant. The way magic interacts with the gods in this world feels fresh and dangerous.
World-Building: The Greek and Roman mythology influences are beautifully woven throughout. The political intrigue, the war strategy, the religious elements... it all feels cohesive and immersive without info-dumping.
Romance: The steamy scenes are steamy (hello, moderate spice! 🌶️), but they never overshadow the main plot. They enhance the emotional stakes and character development.
Action Sequences: From mountain training to war front battles to siege warfare, every action scene is visceral and easy to visualize. You feel every sword clash, every strategic decision, every desperate moment.
Can We Talk About That Ending?! I am going to be intentionally vague here because you deserve to experience this for yourself, but OH MY GODS. 🤯 The ending of this book is absolutely priceless. It's the kind of twist that makes you sit back and realize Bouvier has been setting this up all along, and you never saw it coming. It's satisfying and devastating and infuriating (in the best way) because now I have to WAIT for book three. The audacity! 😭
The Length: Here's the thing: this book is nearly 900 pages. On paper, that sounds intimidating. In practice? I devoured it. Bouvier's pacing is so good that the pages just fly by. There's not a wasted scene, not a boring chapter. Every moment serves the story, builds the tension, or develops the characters. When a book this long reads this fast, you know the author has serious skill.
The Emperor's Hunt: What adds another layer of tension is understanding what the emperor wants from each sister. He's hunting Katell because she's Laran-marked and gifted, a weapon he can control. He wants Alena dead because she's the Omega, and if she fulfills her prophecy, his entire empire crumbles. This creates such a fascinating dynamic where both sisters are valuable to him in completely opposite ways. It's a brilliant conflict design.
Final Thoughts: S.E. Bouvier can "WRITE." Like, "truly write." The prose is elegant but accessible, the dialogue feels natural, the emotional beats land with precision, and the plot twists actually twist. This is epic fantasy done right, with strong female protagonists who feel like real people making difficult choices in impossible circumstances. If you like: • Throne of Glass vibes • An Ember in the Ashes intensity • Greek mythology reimagined • Sisters who would burn the world for each other (or maybe burn each other, depending on the day) • Slow-burn and steamy romance • Morally complex characters • Epic battles and political intrigue • Magic that comes with a cost Then you NEED this series in your life.
And if you've been sleeping on The Gifts of the Gods, consider this your wake-up call. 📣
Bouvier, you've created something truly special here.
Bravo. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🌹🌹🌹🎉🎉
Now, please write faster because I need book three immediately. ❤️ 😂🤣
Thank you to S.E. Bouvier and Haus of Fables for the gifted copy of this book. I was happy to leave my honest opinion.
I’ve had the pleasure of beta reading for the second time for the lovely S.E. Bouvier, and…Hooooly….shit! What a book!!! 😱 I loved the first book in this series, but in this installment, we turned everything up several notches. It’s a THICK book, but who doesn’t love a good, thick fantasy book? Right? We got to explore so much more of the world, the characters and the magic. We got to meet many gods and goddesses, and it truly was an epic journey filled with so many emotional scenes. I’ve laughed, swooned, felt my heart in my throat, gotten goosebumps, and ugly cried SO hard. If you want to read a book inspired by roman and greek mythology and history, where people are gifted by gods and goddesses with magic, these deities also rules and showcases their wrath or benevolence, depending on their mood. Epic world building, with many different territories, that give An Ember in the ashes, Throne of glass vibes. A brutal dictator trying to bend every single part of the world to his will. And of course sisters who are torn apart by war and political intrigue, blessed with powerful magic, and also some lovely love interests. In this book we also get a couple of explicit scenes, that where so beautifully written. So if you don’t usually like spice in your book, I’m pretty confident you will like this one. This is an epic fantasy with romance, that delves deep into the power of sisterhood and friendship. Prepare yourself, your in for a wild ride. And if you for some reason haven’t read the first book yet (there’s also a novella that I absolutely think you should read if you love Nikander as much as me) then do so right now! This book will be released on October 15th, so you have plenty of time to dive into this world 😍
I have been a Beta reader for When sisters collide for almost a year and I finally read the last chapter a few days ago. What a journey!!! I love these characters and this story so much and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to read this second book in the series. In my opinion it’s even better than the first !!!! Be ready for emotional conversations, badass characters and epic battles 🖤
Now When sisters collide is out !!!!! Enjoy everyone this is one of the best fantasy book ever 🫶
that ending: diabolical. i honestly didn’t think this could get better from the first book but it did. and this is only book 2?? middle book syndrome where, bc this was a crazy experience from start to finish.
this is such a good example of an actual epic fantasy. it seriously reminded me of the Iliad and the Trojan War with the involvement of the gods, the different warring factions, all of the politics. the world building is exceptional, very characteristically Greek/Roman history inspired but as a history buff i loved the influence. this is a really raw—at times brutal—story about love, loyalty, loss, and their impacts on relationships, whether it be siblings or friends, in the face of unrelenting violence.
these characters are so well written; they all have such unique tangible personalities that they feel like real people. alena and katell—the sibling duo this entire story revolves around—it’s so devastating. and even the side characters like keylani and charis, they’re so compelling. all of these relationships are raw and complex and messy; it creates a very solemn tenor that shadows the whole book. “She’d changed everything. She’d burst into his life like a blinding ray of sunlight—so optimistic, so curious about a world that hadn’t yet crushed her as it had so many others. He’d meant every word when he told her she’d breathed life back into him. The naïve girl with the bleeding heart and ridiculous auburn hair.” ugh my heart. i need the next book in my hands expeditiously.
Well, I am sad to say but I could not get into this one. I’m giving it 3 stars because the writing quality is still there, The author clearly takes so much time to craft her stories and develop every detail. However, I just wasn’t pulled into this book. I found myself bored and distracted multiple times.
I took a long time getting into the first book, but it eventually paid off. My assumption was that this second book would be jam-packed with movement and have me on the edge of my seat after all that setup. Instead, it felt like I was reading a lot of filler and setup again.
This author is truly talented, but unfortunately, this story didn’t capture me. It was simply too long for how little actually happened from chapter to chapter in the beginning.
While I liked this book better than the first, I still didn’t care much for one of the sisters story line and skimmed through another characters POV to get back to my girl Katell. The plot twist at the end actually made gasp and I can’t believe I have to wait until 2027 for the third book. Right as it was finally getting good it ended.
Wow, wow, wow! When Sisters Collide is an absolutely excellent sequel to When Gods Fall. Actually, I think When Sisters Collide managed to be even better than the first book (and I LOVED the first book)! This series is honestly so slept on for how fantastic it is. The writing is so, so well done, and I really love the characters and their dynamics with one another.
When Sisters Collide has some beautiful relationship payoffs. Alena and Leukos are just *chef’s kiss* together. I’ve loved seeing their development over the course of the two novels (and novella), and I’m seriously on the edge of my seat after the ending of this book.
Kat has an interesting story overall, but particularly in this book. Being in her mind is really such a wild experience, and S.E. Bouvier’s writing makes you feel like you’re right there with her, experiencing everything she does. There were some revelations in this book that were hinted at in book one, so I’ll definitely be going back to refresh myself on those because I seriously totally missed the hints the first time around.
Anyway, do yourself a favor and pick this series up! It’s an epic fantasy with phenomenal world building, an incredibly interesting magic system, and beautiful character relationships. It’s easily one of the best epic fantasy series I’ve read, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
Thank you S.E. Bouvier for the early review copy of When Sisters Collide! All opinions are my own.
I have been waiting for over a year for this sequel, and I’m happy to say it did not disappoint!! S.E. Bouvier has such a way of storytelling, I find myself so deeply sucked into the world and characters. When I had the opportunity to ARC read the first book When Gods Fall in 2023, I said that it was a reminder of why I love fantasy so much. I got that same feeling reading this sequel. Several times throughout this book, I paused and felt an emotional sense of wonder—-the way fantasy made me feel when I was younger. The characters feel so real and tangible, I felt what they felt. I love love Alena and Leukos! I am so excited for the next installment of this series.
Thank you so much Sido for letting me be an ARC reader once more, all words are my own!
Book 1 was fantastic, I loved the characters, the storyline, the plot twists, I was almost worried about the second book because you tend to find the second rarely lives up to the first, but my god when I tell you this surpassed all expectations and was EVEN BETTER than the first book in the series!!!
I laughed, I cried, I loved the multi POV and how everything comes together!!! Multiple plot twists, heartfelt love interests, a couple of spicy scenes which were beautifully written! Not too much, not too little, the perfect balance of romance and spice!
So much more world building, introduced to new characters, new gods and goddesses, new magic - it was overall just an incredible read from start to finish!
The only downside is that now I have to wait for gods know how long until the next release in the series after such a heart wrenching cliff hanger!!!
I enjoyed the first book in this series enough to want to know what happened next , and I found this next instalment more engrossing and kept finding reasons to pick it up and keep reading. I will certainly look forward to the third book in 2027; if I could read it now I absolutely would be cracking on with this series. A great surprise from a new-to-me author.
This was my most anticipated release of 2025. I waited two whole years for it, and it was definitely worth the wait! It's the kind of series that consumes you completely, and you find yourself thinking about it way after you've finished reading it. That's exactly what I've been doing for the past two years while waiting for the sequel, and it's what I will continue to do while I wait for the next one.
Just like the first book, this one was masterfully crafted and beautifully written. I liked the additional POVs, especially that of Leywani. I wondered what had become of her, so it was good to have some answers.
The character development was explored well. It was great to see Alena evolve into her role as the Omega while at the same time retaining her empathy and the ability to look for the good in people. Leukos and Nik's tentative friendship transitioned well, and there were lot of revelations regarding Katell, which were highly unexpected.
The twists just kept coming right till the last page, and I wanted to keep screaming What?! every five minutes. The conspiracies, strategizing and changing loyalties kept me guessing about a character's motives, and I'm not sure how I feel about them yet, but it surely kept the book interesting.
In terms of romance, I loved how it was incorporated. It was the right amount that it gave me a tingly feeling while reading it, but at the same time the author ensured it wasn't overdone, and it did not take away from the main plot.
The world-building was amazing! I enjoyed reading about the different Gods, their abilities, the roles they played in human conflict and the Gifts they endowed on their people.
As expected, the book ended with a mind-blowing cliffhanger, and now I'm going to spend the rest of my days thinking about what is going to happen till the sequel releases. I would highly recommend this epic Greek/Roman fantasy to all the readers.
Wow I needed a few hours to process that ending. It was so intense (in the best way!).
I absolutely loved this second instalment in this series. When Gods Fall had such an epic and emotional ending, it stayed with me a long time after I finished it and I couldn't wait to get started on When Sisters Collide.
We pick up more or less where we left off from book one and all our characters are scattered and divided.
I really enjoyed that we got a few POV's in this book. This includes an old character, our usual characters and a couple of others.
Katell's journey is a really difficult one as she remains on the opposite side of the fight to her sister. We see their bond pushed to its limits but through this we see the strength of their sisterly bond and their love for one another. It's a really moving element to this story. She discovers so many things throughout the book and there is a betrayal during one of her chapters that had me absolutely seething!!
We see Alena growing in strength, confidence and determination. She is my favourite character in this book (well maybe Kaixo might just pip the post but in my defence he is such a cutie!)
Leukos and Nik are together and I love their friendship. Despite the past their loyalty is unfaltering. Of course Nik brings the humour. I love his cheekiness and banter! Leukos is struggling with his magic and having to make choices for the alliance rather than himself.
There are so many great side characters in book two and a lot of them we met in book one. I really enjoyed all the extra layers it brought into the story.
The romance plots for both sisters were very dramatic and so much happens. There were some moments that made my heart very happy and some that made me so mad! There is spice but it's very mild.
The battles and action scenes were epic! Talk about stressing me out. I was on the edge of my seat during the battle at the end. The inclusion of the gifted in the battles means that there's so many twists and turns it's not possible to tell how the battles and fight scenes are going to go. I really enjoyed learning more about all the characters magic, as well as meeting some of the gods that gift people their magic. The magic system is brilliant and it was great seeing some more gifts come into play and we see more of how the gods operate.
This book has everything I love in fantasy in abundance - great characters, superb world building, political intrigue, action, love, betrayal and let me tell you there are plot twists a plenty!! I couldn't stop myself from saying WTF every so often! There are some real jaw droppers thrown at you.
S.E Bouvier has hit us with an epic second book and it's just brilliantly written and paced. Roman and Greek mythology are so effortlessly embedded into the story.
I was completely swept up into the story and it left me breathless, and immediately wanting more. I haven't looked forward to a second book as much as When Sisters Collide in a long time and it did not disappoint! That ending!! Honestly I am in shock!
The wait for book three will be long but i just know it will be worth it!
Thank you to the author S.E. Bouvier for the arc. This is my own honest review of the book.
Book one was great. Book two was awesome! A brilliant installment in the Gifts of the Gods series that already has me impatient for the next one.
This series demands your attention: a richly layered fantasy that balances epic worldbuilding with deeply human emotion.
S.E. Bouvier has crafted a world inspired by ancient Greek and Roman cultures, infused with mythologies that feel both familiar and refreshingly new. The blending of real-world and original lore gives this story impressive depth.
The female leads are wonderfully distinct, each carving her own path to strength and survival. Bouvier captures the many faces of power: resilience, vulnerability, compassion, and fury. Every character feels complex and multifaceted; each navigating their struggles in authentic, deeply human ways. Themes of trauma, grief, PTSD, and addiction are handled with care and realism, adding emotional weight that lingers long after the final page.
The pacing is consistent and seamless: flowing effortlessly from intense action to political intrigue to quieter, emotional moments. The action scenes are especially vivid and immersive. You’re not just reading the battles; you’re in them.
And while I’m a romantasy girl at heart, I genuinely appreciated that the spice was minimal and the romance never overshadowed the fantasy. The focus stays on the world, the characters, and their journeys, and it works beautifully.
A huge thank you to the author and Haus of Fables for the opportunity to read this ARC. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next!
It has been a while since I've read a book that had me equal parts enraptured, breathless, emotional, and stressed the eff out! This story (and the first book in the series, When Gods Fall) absolutely did that to me. A lot of times, marketing folks throw around phrases like "If you liked Throne of Glass, you will love this!" and they are typically wrong. This is one of the few times where I felt like I went through a similar journey as when I was reading ToG. Yes, it is that good. I can't believe I'm gonna have to wait another year to find out what happens.🫣 Worth it. 🤷🏼♀️🤣 4.5🌟
This series is for all the Jinx & Vi fans out there who crave more tragic sister relationships.
When Sisters Collide is the second book in the epic fantasy series The Gifts of the Gods, and even though it's quite a bit lengthier than book 1, it's just filled with extra tension, yearning, and action. The length was a bit daunting, but I finished in three days (thanks to a brief break from schoolwork), so pacing definitely isn't an issue here. I also appreciated the in-depth glossary and dramatis personae at the beginning of the book; I actually didn't struggle too much with character names, which is usually an issue for me, but I did reference it a few times and found it extremely helpful. Also, I think I mentioned it in my review of book 1, but I also really enjoyed the mixing of real-life mythologies for the worldbuilding. It creates a unique and complex world that feels very vivid and easy to grasp.
Alena and Katell have been driven to choose opposite sides of the war. While Alena trains to embrace her role as the Omega and kill the Emperor who threatens the Western lands, Katell now leads the Black Helmets with Dorias at her side, falling deeper and deeper into her power. It's hard to give an accurate picture of how much goes on in this because of how large the scope is, but I appreciated the breadth of the narrative. We get a few extra POVs throughout to help explain scenes that Katell and Alena either aren't present for or can't give a good perspective for, which also helps to spice up the story whenever it starts to drag. There is plenty of action and suspense throughout the book, too. Although the long stretches of political scenes could leave me feeling a bit bored, the action scenes easily balanced them out, so I don't consider pacing to be a problem for this book. It also had a good balance of light-hearted and heavy scenes, which helped to build tension. The ending was explosive, and I will be waiting at the edge of my seat until the next book releases. Literally. I need it now.
The scope, combined with the number of important characters in this series, reminds me a lot of the Throne of Glass series. I could also give tons of comps for the relationship between Katell and Alena, but I will refrain (for the most part). Of the two sisters, Alena is still my favorite, I think. I enjoyed watching her grow into her role and confidence while also maintaining that empathetic, sweet side that makes her such a lovable lead. Her magic could easily make her overpowered compared to the rest of the characters, but the way she chooses to wield it balances it well. The slow burn between her and Leukos was well done; their relationship involves a lot of fan-favorite tropes that I'm sure will leave readers squealing. Katell grew on me in this book, too. I liked her in book 1, but the complexity of her arc in book 2 is what made me enticed to truly follow her story. Her internal conflict is intriguing, and I liked seeing the roles between her and Alena reversed in some ways. They still remind me a lot of Beru and Ephyra from There Will Come a Darkness or, as I already mentioned, Jinx and Vi from Arcane. Nik's banter is great, and I really liked his friendship with Leukos. He felt like he took a backseat in this book, but I'm thinking book 3 will be different, and I'm looking forward to it. Of the other side characters, I enjoyed Leywani's added POV and the way she connected the past to the present, as well as the two sides of the war. I'm still not a fan of Dorias (some of it is, unfortunately, his name, but even if I wasn't holding that against him, I'd still dislike him). My favorite minor character is probably Velthur. I don't have a good reason why, other than he intrigues me and I want to see more of him in book 3.
Fans of When Gods Fall will not be disappointed by its sequel, When Sisters Collide, which features two sisters on opposite sides of a war, rich mythology and worldbuilding, and steamy/slowburn romances, perfect for fans of Daughter of Sparta and Throne of Glass. Thanks to S.E. Bouvier and House of Fables for the free e-ARC!
Thank you S.E. Bouvier and Haus of Fables for the e-arc of When Sisters Collide. I have been so excited to continue the series and I was so grateful to receive an early copy.
I was so impressed with the world building and characters that the author had established in When Gods Fall. The ending had me feeling like it was just the beginning of the crucial part of the journey Alena and Katell were going to embark. A lot of stuff was revealed in book one, but it the plot twist at the end threw me for a loop. Like my jaw was literally on the floor.
This book had the perfect balance of world-building, political intrigue, character growth, plot twists, and romance. It had a few ‘I knew it!’ moments, as well, that had me screaming at the top of my lungs. Even though the book was a big boy, it was still a page-turner, every chapter had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know more. The book surpassed every expectation and left me wanting more.
I thought that the author did such a splendid job when exploring the complexities of human emotion and manipulation. It was so tough to watch Katell believe a version of history that was skewed just to snare her for her magic. Plus, the added confusion of having her dismantle everything she thought was true and the person she thought she could trust turning out to be a liar. I just felt so bad for her and I really NEED to know what happens to her in book 3.
Alena has such a gentle soul, but she goes feral for those she loves and she’s a badass for that. Her growth in this book was so inspiring because nothing about her essence changed, but her mentality about wanting the ability to help her loved ones is what fuels her strength. She went with Phoebe to train just so she can be able to fight for those she loves. She understands that she is a figure that people look for in a crisis and doesn’t bow in the face of it.
The romance in this book was a SLOW BUUURRNNN. Alena’s reunion with Leukos was bittersweet because they were finally together again but they couldn’t touch. Then cut to them finding out they’re soulmates… ugh my heart melted!!! They are both literally stronger together!! I just NEED to see them happy. It wasn’t just them that had me giddy, though. There was a little flirting between Katell and Nik in book one, so when we see them reunite, again, its bittersweet because she’s trying to dismantle everything she was told, yet Nik was there watching over her anyway. The way Nik cares about her is sooo…chef’s kiss. He’s so patient with her. They both want to protect the other so that cliffhanger really had me gasping because there was no way that’s where the book was concluding.
Honestly, one of the best epic fantasy books I’ve read. I felt so immersed in the story that my anxiety was acting up as if I was really amongst the characters on the page. I hope more people explore this world and its characters because it really is such a special story. Can’t recommend it enough.

Epic, Emotional, and Absolutely Unforgettable — A Stunning Fantasy of Sisterhood and War
When Sisters Collide by S.E. Bouvier is a breathtakingly powerful tale of destiny, betrayal, and unbreakable sibling bonds tested in the fires of war. From the snow-laced mountains to blood-soaked battlefields, Bouvier delivers a sweeping, heart-searing story that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go.
At its core, this book is a deeply emotional portrait of two sisters—Alena and Katell—whose choices have placed them on opposite sides of a devastating conflict. Their paths are shaped by gods, empires, and the brutal weight of destiny, yet their hearts remain tragically entangled with one another.
Alena’s journey is heroic and heartbreaking. Training under a fierce Amazon warrior, she steps into her prophesied role as the Omega with determination that feels both fragile and fierce. The consequences of her sister’s betrayal haunt every choice she makes, and when her closest allies are captured, her world crumbles in ways that force her to confront what destiny truly demands. Her resilience and compassion shine throughout, grounding the epic scale of the story in deeply human emotion.
Katell, by contrast, is a whirlwind of power, pain, and impossible responsibility. As the leader of the Black Helmets, she wields magic that grants her staggering strength at the cost of her very life. Her storyline is raw and gripping—the kind of morally complex, character-driven arc that stays with you. When her loyalty is questioned and she’s dispatched to end the siege of Tiryns “by any means necessary,” the stakes become dizzyingly high. Her internal battles are as intense as the ones she fights on the field.
As their fates converge once more, the tension is electric. Loyalty vs. love, duty vs. desire, prophecy vs. free will—the novel explores these themes with nuance, depth, and emotional clarity. The worldbuilding feels ancient and mythic, the magic system enthralling, and the political intrigue razor-sharp.
The pacing is perfection, the prose vivid and immersive, and every character—major and minor—adds richness to the journey. The sense of inevitability as the sisters draw closer is devastatingly beautiful, leading to a climax that is equal parts gut-wrenching and exhilarating.
I am voluntarily writing this honest review after reading a #gifted ARC via Haus Of Fables. WHEN SISTERS COLLIDE is the second book in the GIFTS OF THE GODS series by S.E. Bouvier. Two sisters who were torn apart by fate, now find themselves on opposite sides of a savage war. Alena trains with an Amazon warrior, determined to embrace her role as the Omega and fulfill the Mother Goddess’s purpose to defeat the Emperor before he destroys the old Gods. When she discovers that her former people had been enslaved, it seems that her sister’s treachery was only the beginning. Katell is now the leader of Black Helmets. Given a magical drug, she is more powerful, but not herself. When a rescue mission goes awry, Katell attacks a Legate and her loyalty is questioned. She is ordered to end the siege of the city of Tiryns by any needs necessary. The sisters’ paths draw them together again, and they will be forced to decide what they are willing to sacrifice. This is an open door, third person, multi-POV (mostly Alena and Katell,) NA epic romantic fantasy with moderate spice and tropes such as soulmates, forced proximity, elemental magic, snarky gods, found family, hidden powers, mythology, and they can’t touch. I was glued to it from cover to cover and after that cliffhanger I am horrified that I will have to wait until 2027 for the next installment. I adored Alena, her relationships with those she encounters, and her strength in the face of adversity. I empathize with Katell who was so desperate for belonging she joined a found family that put her at odds with the sister she adored. This book is full of adventure, steamy romance, and magic. It was action packed and never slow. I recommend this novel for readers who enjoy novels such as THRONE OF GLASS and AN EMBER IN THE ASHES and enjoy Greek mythology. This novel contains violence, language, and mature situations and would not be appropriate for readers under sixteen. It can be accessed in KU and should be read as part of a series.
I had the amazing opportunity to beta read an arc read this glorious book, and all I can say this is an amazing book. It’s a LONG book, but it didn’t feel like a long book. I couldn’t out it down and before I knew it, I was The writing style in here is epic and I swear there’s a cliffhanger at the end of every chapter, and so you just can’t stop reading it.
I absolutely LOVED the first book. It was my favorite read of the year it was released, and now this sequel is the perfect continuation of the first one.
The detail, the relationships, the action, the betrayals, the twists, and the romances. There’s no way for me to express how much I enjoyed this sequel.
I will say the romance between Alena and Leukos is EVERYTHING. That slow burn forbidden yearning, aching, pining, had the perfect amount for me to just ache along with them.
The relationships between people, such as Leukos and Nik, grew so much. Nik is just that person you always want on your side. What he does for Leukos…just makes me weep.
Then we have Alena and her hopes to reach and save her sister Katell from herself, this is probably the most heartbreaking with Alena trying so hard to avoid the inevitable of removing Katell from the picture and convincing others she can reach her sister. The love these two have for each other overcomes a lot, but not without consequences.
There were some new POVs that I loved reading about! Some older characters reintroduced and newer characters introduced. Laran I must say is one of my all time favorite characters. He’s a hoot and was a lot of fun to read. I look forward to more of him! I’m curious to know what interactions will be like with him in the future 👀
I thoroughly enjoyed this devastating(only in the best way) story. Seriously check this series out if you haven’t already! If I could give this more than five stars, I would!
Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to beta read and arc read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I've been waiting two years for this masterpiece and I'm absolutely wrecked by it!
Once again, the author managed to make me cry, laugh, swoon—but mostly cry, let's be honest. The cliffhanger of Book 1 delivered an excruciating journey of betrayal, redemption, secrets, and twists and turns. I couldn't have imagined how heart-breaking it would be to finish this book.
I'm in awe of the author for foreshadowing the reveals at the end of the book so well! And for the amazing number of plot lines, Gods, a magic system that keeps expanding and evolving with the characters' journeys. It's not only the story of Alena, Katell and their destiny anymore, this book really developped more magic, laid down the foundations for more betrayals and plot twists in the next installments, and more Gods are coming into the battle between Rasenna and the Achean and their allies.
I loved how deeply complex all the characters are. There isn't a single one that's only there to be a tool for a plot or a main character's journey. Every single villain (yes multiple!), hero, side character has their own set of morals, goals and aspirations, their own destiny to fulfill. I love seeing a female character we thought lost from Book 1, the main betrayal hurt my soul (I was rooting for him), and I find myself also rooting for the villain or at least finding excuses for him, which should tell you everything you need to know.
Nothing is as it seems, and I have to admit, I might now be a Laran worshipper ;)
I'm sorry. What do you mean book 3 isn't out until 2027! I must know what happens.
This book, according to Kindle, is 848 pages long. It certainly doesn't feel it. The pacing is somehow kept very even throughout. Do I think it needs to be 800+ pages? No, but damn if I didn't devour the whole thing.
The twists are crazy. Like, some you pick up on, but it's not exactly what you expect so it's still a surprise and I love that. Once again, we need tissues for both good and bad reasons. And my man, Nik, is amazing. He really is my favourite character.
The romance is doing its thing. Not just for our sisters but for side characters too. I really like the direction it's going in for the sisters, too. They have very different paces, but it feels like the right journey for them.
Plotwise, we get a lot of worldbuilding here. Or specifically, a lot of knowledge around the sisters and their abilities. I loved getting to learn more about how gifting works and the different gods between the lands. I have a theory on the emperor and since most of my other theories have been proved correct, I think it's going to make for a very interesting next book.
Overall, I enjoyed it, I'm looking forward to the next book. I'm not sure how many the series is planned to have, but I'm selfishly hoping it may be the grand finale so I can see certain things happen.
‘Thank you for this gifted ARC from Haus of Fables’ I was lucky to get a copy of this book before release ❤️
The ending omg I can't even comprehend!!!!!!
This book, for me, is infinite stars, and even then, that wouldn't be enough. I love this series. It captivated me from the very first page with its beautiful writing, effortlessly drawing the reader into a richly imagined world. It masterfully weaves together themes of gods, power, and war alongside deeply human stories of friendship and love.
The standout element for me was the complex relationship between the two sisters Alena and Katell, positioned on opposite sides of the conflict, a dynamic that adds layers of tension and empathy. This familial divide is set against a mythic backdrop, where gods and a cruel emperor loom large, adding layers of intrigue and stakes that elevate the personal to the epic.
But what truly sets this book apart is the stunning storytelling. Every detail from the political intrigue to the cultural richness feels meticulously crafted, transporting the reader fully into this vivid realm. Overall, this is an amazing read that lingers long after the last page, inviting reflection on power, loyalty, and the ties that bind us even when divided by war. This series is a must-read!!!!!!! ❤️ 💙 💜
I loved the first book in this series but this one is on a whole other level. It was Very intense and emotional throughout.. literally not a dull moment to be found. We dig deeper into the mythology and meet/get to know more deities and learn more about the history particularly when it comes to Alena and Katell's family👀 Alena's physical, mental, and power growth is on full display as she becomes the leader she's meant to be. Katell has her own journey and as she slowly starts to see through the deception of the people she was convinced to trust. These sisters are a Powerhouse and I really want to see them fighting on the same side😭 I feel like anything I say about Leukos & Nik would be spoilery so I'll just say I love them so much. Let me tell you..Leukos is not to be played with!!🥶 They're both so devoted and loyal. I just want them happy and healthy. Don't hurt my boys🙏🏾 All the characters are beautifully written with so much depth..love them or hate them you will definitely Feel them‼️ The fight scenes are nerve wrackingly brilliant.. they will absolutely have you on the edge of your seat💯 And the Plot Twists?! Yeah..they got me👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 This book was just phenomenal Love love loved it!!
Wow! This is definitely in my top reads of the year! And absolutely stunning Epic Romantic Fantasy! The writer does an amazing job of holding tension, creating beautiful imagery and unfolding a rich complicated plot. These relationships!! I loved all the POVs and character development - they are complex struggling with various traumas, relationships and morality. The romance is slow burn sub plot and beautifully done. The lore and breadth of this world was so freaking cool! I love a world with meddling gods and political intrigue. There were also several things I did not see coming! That ending though- damn I do not want to wait for book 3!!! Ultimately, this is a story about family and what you will do for them.
Read if you like character driven epic tales filled with battles, deception, and tension! It gave me similar feelings to reading John Gwynne but make it more romantic. The Throne of Glass comparison also really stands up! Gah loved it!!
Thank you to the author and Haus of Fables PR for the arc opportunity
Wow that was wow. This is very much what I would describe as an epic fantasy world. It has romance yes, but I wouldn’t go into this expecting a straight and clear cut fantasy romance.
The world building that we get in this book is everything. I was so curious to see more of this world after reading the first book, and I’m so glad that we got more of it. It’s so lush and vividly described that I felt like I truly was in the world. Sometimes, it can be hard to follow world building in fantasy books of this size and style, but not this one. I also like how the world building is integrated into the story rather than just throwing things at you.
While it took me a while to read this book, I didn’t feel like it was taking me a while. I felt like the story was paced very well all things considered. It’s long, but the journey feels well worth it.
Thank you very much to S.E. Bouvier and Haus of Fables for an ARC of this book!
“ We live to fight another day.” ♾️stars! I was blown away by book one, When Gods fall, so imagine my surprise when book 2 completely eclipsed book one (in the best way.) I am in love with this world that SE Bouvier has created. The Gods are probably my favorite part, so powerful and untouchable yet so glaringly human in their actions/choices. The growth we see from Alena is admirable. We’ve seen similar FMC’s be crushed by the weight of responsibility, but she rises above. And comes out the better for it. Katell 😢 Will she ever catch a break?? I’m hoping book 3 is where she gets to see some light at the end of the tunnel. The side characters are done exceptionally well, they steal your heart without taking away from our MC’s journey. Ma’am, that epilogue was intense!! It leaves you reeling. I can not wait for the next book. I know it’s going to be phenomenal.
Thank you so much for the ARC (had to do a quick re read of book one, didn’t want to miss anything)
If When Gods Fall was about choosing one’s destiny, then When Sisters Collide is about bearing its weight.
Book Two of The Gifts of the Gods finds Alena training in the mountains to fulfill her role as the Omega and face down a greed-filled emperor, while Katell leads armies and grows stronger but wrestles with the magic slowly consuming her. Their paths may be separate, but every step feels like it’s pulling them toward an inevitable reckoning.
I am again blown away by how S.E. Bouvier can write such a massive book that never feels long or slow. Every chapter has momentum, the stakes somehow keep getting higher, and the PLOT TWISTS. This time around we get even more POVs, which I loved. It opens the world up so much and gives us fresh perspectives outside the two sisters. Alena really takes center stage here and watching her come into her power both literally and metaphorically was so satisfying. Bouvier also expands on the lore in some really cool ways. We get new magic, new creatures, and the gods themselves start to feel like characters you actually know. The found-family moments continue to shine and some of those scenes in particular hit me right in the chest and had me straight up sobbing. I also really appreciated the mental health representation particularly around addiction and PTSD. It was handled with a lot of care and depth, and it added so much emotional weight to the story.
Book 2 is marketed as New Adult Romantic Fantasy and does include a few open door spicy scenes. To be very clear, I am NOT a romance or romantasy reader, but between the layered worldbuilding, the emotional character arcs, and the mythology woven through it all, I can confidently say that this series WILL HIT for romance AND non romance readers alike.
Honestly, I can’t pick a favorite between When Gods Fall and When Sisters Collide. They’re both incredible for different reasons but this one cemented the fact that S.E. Bouvier has a permanent spot on my must-read list. I’ll be counting the days until the final book drops. If you love epic fantasy with sisterhood, found family, mythology, and gut-wrenching twists, don’t sleep on this series!
This sequel has done it! It surpassed the first book - which I honestly thought that it would never happen! The plot thickens as we follow the sisters and their new roles in warfare, as well as their relationships with the other characters. Can we talk about Leukos and Alena’s reunion? Cuz OMG the way I grinned! 💕💕 The Gods? MAJOR POINTS FOR THAT! They are a constant apparition in the book and I loved it sooo much! I was so not expecting that ending! Everything is uncertain now! Where did Katell go? Did Nik reached her? Has Leukos died? Where’s Phoebe and the Achaean Gods to help them?! Ahhhhh the way I’m going to rant about this until the author grants her with book 3!!! 😫😫😫😫😫
Thank you so much for letting me have this ARC copy! ❤️
