Rate this book
From International bestselling author Nikki J Summers comes a new dark, gothic, standalone romance.

They told me Firethorne would be my salvation.
But all I found were sinners hiding inside those walls.

Firethorne is a place best viewed from afar.
Strangers aren't welcome in the dark, gothic mansion. A mansion steeped in twisted myths and urban legends.
No one really knows the truth about Firethorne or its elusive family.
If they did, they'd realise the reality is far worse than any of the secrets they've heard whispered in the town.

When Maya Cole's father falls on hard times, everything seems hopeless, until the day he's given a lifeline.
A live-in post at the Firethorne estate...
For him and his daughter.

He thinks all their prayers have been answered.
But Maya is no fool.
She knows to be careful what you wish for.
And after meeting the Firethornes, she learns that wishes sometimes turn into nightmares.

Devilishly beguiling and wickedly corrupt, they try to pull her into their games of lies and deceit.
But with Maya, they soon learn, what they can't have, they can't resist.
Which only makes the chase even sweeter.

But they're not the only ones chasing her.

Someone else is lurking in the shadows.
Watching...
Waiting...
Biding their time...
Ready to show her that the devil you know isn't always the one you should trust.

2.5 ⭐️

I thought I would love this based on the description but it was a labor intensive read for me (I do seem to be alone in that). The story wasn’t cohesive, you hit the halfway mark and it’s an entirely different book. I was fairly bored in the first half, not much development happening between characters or with the plot. Then the second half punches you in the face with a complete lack of believability. Like, it was purely a shock factor device.

I think if there had been chemistry between the MC’s and a real romance I would have been more invested. But I didn’t feel anything between Damien and Maya, and neither of them had been fleshed out enough to be interesting on their own. The spice and “romance” start around the 75% mark and it’s mostly long proclamations of undying love that feel so empty and untrue it comes off as comedic. Idk the whole thing felt underdeveloped and flat. Maybe it was me and I expected too much from all the 5 star reviews. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also hate leaving what sounds like a scathing review, but for me personally nothing really worked here.

DNF @ 10%. Not really for any particular reason other than I don’t feel like reading about a 3rd or 4th 🤔 wheel bitch. The story is seems loosely based off of Cruel Intentions, which is a great movie, but I don’t want to actually read about a Sarah Michelle Gellar in my book 😂.

Oh my goodness, what a fantastic new stand-alone from the brilliant Nikki J Summers!

This book gave me mystery, suspense, intrigue, action, spice, and a seriously amazing ending. It had me guessing who did what (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers).
I loved it from start to finish! The Firethornes are about to make you question everything!

Must read.

This was such a fun and spooky time! From the setting to the characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I love all things gothic romance and this one truly delivers from the creepy mansion to the people inside. This book kept me on my toes and at no point did I predict how it was going to turn out. I enjoyed every second and WHEW was it steamy at times! My only critique - I wanted MORE! 😍

2 ⭐️ for the beginning. It started very well, continued ok-ish and ended like 💩. I hated Maya…
They kept saying that she’s a thinker, a philosopher, a dreamer and a smart girl. In fact she was the opposite. She didn’t think at all, didn’t believe the truth that was right on her face and treated Damien like crap almost till the end.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This is such a hard book to review. Not because I didn't like it but because it has a huge twist halfway through it so it's almost like two books and it's hard not to spoil anything.

I would say the first half was a 3 stars for me, the second half was a 4 star and the last hour a 5 star. Meaning we ended on 5 stars because I loved that second half so much. The 1st half was very different from what I typically read hence the 3 stars but man did this book surprise me with that second half, it really hit home and it was done so well.

A few things I really loved. I loved that 'the Firethorns' didn't have their own chapters with the pov instead it was an all seeing all knowing narrator. I thought that really added to the mystery. Another thing I loved was that Maya took care of herself in that big showdown at the end. Way to often do the hero show up to save the heroine at just the last second, and it quickly gets boring. I want a heroine who fights back and handles the situation herself, maybe even saves the hero instead of the other way around.

I enjoyed this book. Nikki J Summers is now at 10 consecutive 5 star books. And that teaser at the end, shut up am I excited.

With a menu like this, I knew I was going to love this book, and I sure did. I inhaled it!

We meet Maya, who is going to work at Firethorne Manor alongside her father after he lost everything they had. Lysander and Miriam are playing games and placing bets whilst Damien is adamant that he is not joining in the games - and let's be honest, there's no competition when you're ten steps ahead!

I fell so hard for Damien; the quiet, broody, dark, handsome, burly man who prefers to spend his time in the library than at the party? Yes please! Everything he does, which is so much more than we originally think, was all for her, and when they finally give in, it is EXPLOSIVE!!!!

I wish I could read this for the first time again.

Thank you so much to @nikkijsummersauthor and @candikanepr for a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review.

✨️✨️✨️

“Be careful, Maya,” he warned. “Even salt looks like sugar at first glance. And remember the saying... sometimes it’s better the devil you know.”

✨️✨️✨️

“You’re so fűcking beautiful when you come,” he whispered, his fingers still buried inside me,

Firethorne, a dark gothic mansion steeped in twisted myths and urban legends - and Maya Cole knows, 100% that she shouldn't be there. That although her father insists this is where their new start begins, he's wrong. She can feel that something is off and when she meets the ones who live there, can she really know who to trust and who to run from...

Firethorne is full of secrets, twists, attraction, hope, hopelessness and danger. A good read.

I hate having to give this book just a 3 but this didn't hit the right spots for me.
The first half really dragged for me and the 3rd pov really irritated me.
I felt I needed more of the two of them, the ending seemed a bit rushed for me. I won't lie maya annoyed me at times but in the end I felt for her.

This was…okay….
I found it to be a slow and repetitive start. I wasn’t loving the writing style, and Maya was an underdeveloped character that I needed more depth from. Debated DNF. Then it got interesting enough for me to continue around 20%, and it was spooky and eerie, and I needed to find out all the mysteries. At 30%, it felt like I was reading a different book. Maya started swearing constantly, and the Firethorne’s were talking to her like she already knew their family closely, and it had been 2 days since she got there. At times, Maya and Damien’s conversations sounded cheesy to me. The yogurt incident near the end was a bit weird……😳 The ending fell flat and wrapped up far too quickly.

Overall, it was creepy and spooky and a mystery as to who we could trust and who were Maya’s true allies at Firethorne. I liked it, but it wasn’t anything special.

I’m sure some people would enjoy this more than I did. It just wasn’t hitting the spot for me.

Maybe I’m just a little salty lately 😬

If you are looking for a dark gothic mansion setting with captor/captive this is the book for you!

I feel in LOVE with Firethorne Mansion! I love the Gothic atmosphere, the crazy things that have occurred in the mansion before, and I love the landscape and the grounds of the mansion. If I could live there I totally would! There is also a haunting presence surrounding Maya, the FMC, the entire time. It's haunting and captivating at the same time.

I will tell you next that this is definitely a slow burn. You almost are like when is something gonna happen until it does then Nikki will blow you away!

There are so many twists and turns with Maya and the three main characters who are not at ALL what they seem to be. Just when you think you know what is going on there you won't. It has some wonderful twists and turns.

I don't even want to say any more because I don't want to give anything away ... Just know...not all is what you see at Firethorne Mansion

What you'll get:
Captive x captor
Stalker vibes
Gothic setting
Virgin FMC
Spice

When a Nikki J Summer book is due to come out, I run.
The blurb had me wanting this book as soon as I read it, and with that trope list, do you blame me?
This book had so many unexpected twists and turns my head was all over.
When Maya arrives at the Firethorne Mansion with her father for his job, she doesn’t feel right about it, and things become far worse than she expected.
This dark, gothic standalone left me wanting more of the MMC. He was hot.

Loved this Dark Gothic Romance! It started out a tad slow for me in the first couple chapters, but OH MY G! Once it got going it was gone! I had so many mixed emotions, especially towards Damien, at first I was like your a prick, turned to oh my, turned to SIR 🥵 thats all I can say without spoilers about Mr. Damien Firethorne 😏😉
Overall a great read, some romance, some torture, some dysfunctional family and lots of yummy spice! 🥵

4/5 Stars
3/5 Spice

The amazing and talented Nikki J. Summers has created a new standalone book, Firethorne. I want to thank her for sending me an ARC. As always I will give my honest opinion on any ARC I receive.

This book is very much a dark romance, so please read the trigger warnings at the start of the book. Written in the blurb, it said that it had elements of Beauty and the Beast meets Cruel Intentions, and boy did it.

Firethorne is a very slow burn, the spice didn't hit till like 70 percent into the book but that's okay because there were so many interesting things going on in the story.

Maya and her father move into the Firethorne estate to start a new life as workers there but something doesn't seem right with the Firethorne family to her. There's a mystery about the family and someone is trying to tell her to get out while she can but she can't leave her father behind.

Damien Firethorne is a mystery to Maya and also finds him to be kind of a jerk. Just like his family, he holds secrets of his own. This book is filled with mystery and danger and leaves you wanting more.

Nikki did amazing writing well-thought-out characters and plots. I can foresee the story perhaps continuing.

Please read trigger warnings, it is a must for this book since it does hit on a heavy subject.

I am so sorry; but the pacing was so slow that it felt boring to me. I also couldn't really connect with the MC's and didn't feel any chemistry between them.

Edit:
Also to the FMC; girlie how are you still kinda crushing on that one MC after you saw him rape a girl!? Are you braindead or something!?

***4,25 "Trust no one!!!" stars***

"They told me Firethorne would be my salvation.
But all I found were sinners hiding inside those walls."

Wow!!! This book was so different from Nikki's previous works, but I liked the change of scenery so much!!! It was atmospheric, a little bit spooky, suspensful and full of action!!!
Maya wasn't a damsel in distress and she knew how to save herself, even though she had an amazing protector by her side!!!
But things are not always as they seem and Maya in the hope to turn her life around, she will live through a nightmare to get to the other side.
Just buckle up and enjoy the ride!!!

“Be careful, Maya,” he warned. “Even salt looks like sugar at first glance. And remember the saying... sometimes it’s better the devil you know.”

Maya and her father are getting to Firethorne in the hope of turning around their life, but Maya is not buying what the Firethornes are selling!!!
Their house is beautiful, but haunting...
Their faces are gorgeous, but full of creepy shadows...
She can not trust them, even though her father is insisting...
The Firethornes, from the other hand, like playing games and Maya is the new shiny toy that everyone wants to play with...
But Maya is not who they think they are... and that is refreshing for others and annoying for the rest of them...

"The mask we wear for the world, and the reality we keep hidden inside can be two very different things."

Honestly, I can not reveal much of the plot cause I don't want to make spoilers... but nothing was as it seems in here...
Maya was an amazing girl, strong and intelligent and no one could fool her!!!
Someone is after her, someone is watching her every move, but Maya won't give them the satisfaction to play their games...
The Firethornes were sneaky and not to be trusted, but Damien was my favorite from the beginning... He was the devil himself, but sometimes is better the devil you know!!!
This story was amazing and I enjoyed its vibes so much!!!

I’m a little jealous that I haven’t been kidnapped by a rich man that brings me books and reads to me just because he knows it calms me down…the audacity!

Maya Cole has had to leave everything behind after her father made some poor business decisions. Her father ensures her the move to Firethorne manor will be a fresh start for the both of them, but it truly seems too good to be true. The alarm bells are going off and a stranger even gives her a clear warning message. Maya is nothing but loyal to her father however and agrees to give it a go, but trust no one. However, the one person she trusts may be the one to betray her in the end.

Damien Firethorne is the dark, broody and mysterious type. He’a being groomed to take over the family ‘business’ but he’s hiding some secrets of his own, and maybe he’s not as bad as he lets on, but can he secretly save Tessa from a bet between his brother and cousin, and the dark future that’s lies before her? Or will her worst nightmares come to pass if he fails.

This books was mysterious, a delicious slow burn and makes you question who it is that you can truly trust.

Check your trigger warnings, this book contains SA as well as trafficking.

✨ARC Review: Firethorne by Nikki J Summers

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

“𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒹𝑒𝓋𝒾𝓁 𝒽𝒶𝒹 𝓅𝓊𝓁𝓁𝑒𝒹 𝓂𝑒 𝓊𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓇 𝑜𝓃𝒸𝑒 𝒶𝑔𝒶𝒾𝓃, 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝐼 𝒹𝒾𝒹𝓃’𝓉 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓃 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝒸𝑜𝓂𝑒 𝓊𝓅 𝒻𝑜𝓇 𝒶𝒾𝓇”

After the fallout of some bad business deals, Maya’s father got a job for both of them at a mysterious mansion owned by even more mysterious owners, the Firethornes. From the beginning, Maya can tell something isn’t right about her new employers and the mysterious and ominous notes warning her away definitely do not help. Maya struggles to figure out who she can trust and who she can’t but someone in the house is trying to show her that the devil you know isn’t always the devil you should trust. Can Maya figure out what’s going on and who she can trust before it’s too late?

Firethorne has everything I want in a dark romance. This book was like Gothicana (without the academia setting) crossed with Haunting Adeline and honestly Damien may give Zade Meadows a run for his money 🥵
I loved trying to figure out who Maya should trust as she tried to figure it out; the mystery aspect was one of my favourite parts of this book. This books seriously had me gasping and my jaw dropping multiple times. And the spice?? Well let’s just say I’m still not sure how I feel about yogurt anymore

‼️TW‼️ this is a DARK romance and contains material that may be triggering including but not limited to: stalking, non-consensual sex (not with FMC), non-consensual sexual medical exam, abduction, violence, and death
Please read the warnings in its entirety before beginning this venture

If you’re a lover of dark romance then definitely check out Firethorne, releasing Oct 30!

I want to thank the Author for the opportunity to read this book early in exchange for an honest review 🖤

I read this in a day, which means I couldn’t put it down. It was a build up throughout the book, a couple of times I was gnawing my fingers because the anticipation of something about to happen kept you edging (no, not in that way get your heads out of the gutter 🤣). Read the trigger warnings…CVS or blatant invitation but do, for me it wasn’t overly dark but then I may or may not be a little 🤪

Firethorne is a place no female wants to be, the men may be affluent and good looking but what lies beyond is sinister and depraved. Our FMC, Maya ended up there through no fault of her own, her father need the work and being his only family left she went too. The storyline moves slowly until it all hits you at once, certain parts become apparent, secret and betrayals out in the open. It does end on an HEA which ever way you look at it 😈

Really enjoyed this read for a Sunday afternoon 😊 Not too dark and flowed through.

Dark and suspenseful

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: enemies to lovers
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥1\2

A very dark and suspenseful, gothic read with lots of twists and turns. I wanted to love it, but the pacing just felt a bit off to me. It was pretty slow in the beginning, which I didn't hate; it allowed for great buildup and for a while you're not sure who the MMC is going to be (which I loved). But the shift to fast paced came very abruptly, followed by lots of hot smexy times, and then a ludicrous speed rush to the end. I still enjoyed it 🤷🏻‍♀️. And I'm definitely reading her next book that comes. If you're a gothic romance and/or a Nikki J Summers fan, I still think its worth a read ❤.

WOW! Just wow! This needs to become an HBO movie asap! I was so into this book and was literally walking around my house trying to adult with my kindle in my face because I didn’t want to put it down!

This gothic, suspenseful book held so much mystery, darkness, and slow burning romance. Damien was my kinda MC with his broody, mysteriousness that had me instantly attracted (hi the problem it’s me 😂). Lysander gave off Gaston vibes from beauty and the beast, while Miriam was the perfect “mean girl” energy (aka sweet to your face but crushes you as you walk away).

The plot had me wishing I was watching it in person and had hints of Beauty and the Beast to it. It is an absolute must read!!

🌟 Gothic mansion
🌟 Captive/ kidnap
🌟 Slow burn
🌟 Stalking
🌟 Major plot turns

I have no idea how to describe this new standalone by Nikki J Summers. The whole book was like being on an intense mystery ride , one that never stopped surprising. It is action packed with amazing characters to read. You constantly question what you just read, who to trust and if the good will prevail. I know I've told you nothing but trust me on this you don't want this book spoiled by anyone giving away plot lines. Get ready to question everything and everyone because the Firethornes are a family like no other.

Oh my days!! Nikki J Summers is back with a new dark gothic romance novel perfect for Halloween!!

As a big fan of this lady’s work I was soooo excited for this new read from Nikki and it does not disappoint!!

This a slow burn- m/f romance - suspense - enemies to lovers stand alone filled with lots of spice!!!!

We meet Maya Cole, a student who’s had to leave everything behind, who is traveling with her father for a new start after all his bad luck. Maya and her father have jobs working for the Firethorne. A very creepy historic large estate with a very mysterious past and family.

Maya is already very worried about this move and after a very mysterious encounter on the train is even more concerned that Firethorne is not the answer but still continues to be with her dad.

When Maya and her father arrive, they meet the people behind this gothic place, Beresford the driver and the Lord of the home Mr Firethorne. Then we meet the sons Lysander & Damien and their cousin, Miriam, the family behind the strange home who scream creepy from their first meeting!!

But the mystery’s for Maya keep coming and things aren’t what them seem….

This novel screams Cruel Intentions from the get go!! But with this one there is a happy ending!

I loved this one!!! I sooo enjoyed it that I stayed up until 2am to finish as the suspense was just getting to me!!! I needed to know what would happen. The suspense!! The spice 🔥🔥 Jesus let’s just say you’ll need a fan for a few of these chapters and I can’t look at yoghurt for a while now!! IYKYK.

Congratulations Nikki this is another amazing read. Can’t wait for what’s next!!! ❤️

Firethorne wasn't exactly what I expected!

This book takes you on a journey in so many ways. From a broken home of sorts to HEA..
Mayas dad is a lost and broken man after tragedy. So he makes a choice to take them on a journey to Firethorne. Little does Maya know his decision will change her forever.

I absolutely devoured this book! I loved every page and every word until the very end. Nikki did a beautiful job at building a spooky, fear rising, taboo, difficult along with at moments delicious plot. The character building she has in this is wonderfully done. I do believe that this book couldn't have been better. I truly wish there was more or will be more because I would love to read more from Maya and Damien. He is so noble, but of course he doesn't start off with that impression lol.

She is a skeptic, he is a savior. Together they take on the TERRIBLE acts and people of Firethorne. I honestly wasn't sure where this book was going in the beginning. I think Nikki did a great job at giving this a slow burn feel but with out it being drug out and boring. Each page gave a little more insight into what to expect with all those moments leading up to THE MOMENT. GIRRRRLLLL THAT ONE MOMENT where Maya does what she does to begin fighting back..... SHOOOO WEEE I was screeching GO GIRL!!!

Please read the triggers, please go into this book with an understanding of the terribly hard and sad but true topics she touches on. Your mental health matters.

Thank you for letting me in on an early read for this I absolutely LOVED it! Beautifully written.

Nikki J Summers just took me on the most dark and twisted wild ride! I ate up every last bit of it too!! I found a new sexy top tier morally grey MMC, Damien. I loved him the most from the very start.
Maya had it all going for her before her selfish father had to mess it up. But Maya happily will follow her father blind because he is all she has, as they start a new life together. She has no idea what is really going on. But clues are being left for her telling her not to trust anyone! She has no idea where they are coming from and her guard is up which had me flipping through pages to figure out what was going on and who was really after her at the Firethorne mansion. The twist and turns were nuts and had my heart swelling. I was captured throughout this thriller the whole time. Learning who really is there for Maya had me rooting for the villain before she even figured anything out.
This book was great and ended just strongly as it started. I highly recommend this book with it coming out just in time to be a Halloween read!
Firethorne is a dark romance so please check the trigger warnings before diving in.
I loved it!!

Check triggers warning, may contain dark themes.

Firethorne was suppose to be our salvation but no one warned us about what lives inside these walls.
Especially Lysander & Damien, 1 light,1 dark but never judge a book by its cover.

Oh my gawd!
This has got to be Nikki's best book yet.
Mystery, Spice, Destiny & Evil around every corner.
One or two characters may have got me feeling terribly stabby on more than one occasion but ALL for exactly what the deserved in the end!
The yoghurt made me itch but the knife made me question everything that happened in that room.

One thing that is annoying me, who is the shadow?
I need answers!
