“In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen…” These familiar words often conclude our prayers, but have you ever stopped to consider how Jesus Himself prayed? John 17 offers us a rare glimpse into the heart of Jesus as He speaks directly to the Father in what is known as the High Priestly prayer—the longest recorded prayer of Jesus in Scripture.
Through this prayer, we see not only how Jesus prayed, but also why He prayed. His dialogue with the Father is filled with love, unity, and purpose. He prays for Himself, His disciples, and for all who will come to believe in Him—including us. As we explore His prayer together in this study, "Why Pray?" our hope is that you will uncover the profound intimacy Jesus had with the Father and learn how that same connection can deepen your relationship with God.
This study is meant to help guide you personally in your prayer life. Then, each week, you’ll gather in your Life Group, Bible study, or even with friends to spend time sharing and praying together.
This was a great one to go through with church and my small group. I really appreciated the ways it stretched and challenged my views on what and how to pray. Highly recommend!
