Jynx Mitchell wakes up without remembering who she is or how she got there. She's told she's married to a loving husband and has three beautiful children, but she feels no emotional connection to them or the life they say she once led. Haunted by a sense of displacement and a deep longing for answers, she goes on a journey of self-discovery that will unravel the carefully constructed facade of her life.
Shemar Bell, her neighbor, senses something is off and is determined to help her when they forge a friendship over morning coffee. What they find is shocking, making her wonder more about where she came from and how she came to be married to the man she sleeps next to every night. Dark secrets emerge, revealing a traumatic revelation.
In Fractured Identity, as Jynx fights to reclaim her memories and sense of self, she realizes the key to her identity may lie in the darkest corners of her mind.
Jinx wakes up in the hospital with amnesia and is scared out of her mind. This Preston man appears beside her, telling her she just woke from a coma, and that he is her husband. Record scratch.... huh? 👀 Although Jinx doesn't recall anything from her life prior to that moment, she immediately has distrust in Preston. Her instincts are intact even if everything else is out of commission.
When discharged and Preston takes her home, she becomes more agitated when he tries to suppress her recall and tells her to worry about the future. Sir, she doesn't know you, or who she is for that matter, and you had the audacity to tell her to stop trying to remember!! 🤬 She now knows for certain that something is off, and she is to keep Preston at arm's length.
She meets her neighbor Shemar and feels safe and comfortable with him immediately, and she doesn't understand why. She tells him her doubts about Preston, and he vows to help her get to the truth. While they work together to uncover the truth, feelings begin to brew.
I enjoyed the buildup with Jinx getting bits and pieces of her memory back and understanding what happened the night of the accident. However, Preston getting more aggressive with her and she needs an out.
When Jinx turns over evidence to the police, things happened so quickly that it felt like information was missed. What exactly did Preston do, other than what was told on page? Was he responsible for the accident? What was his end game?
Secrets take more than they give, leaving scars behind. Jynx Mitchell is using those scars as a map to navigate her way back to herself. She must relearn how to trust her gut when the truth and lies carry the same outward appearance as salt and sugar. Lies and deceit fill her journey with a hint of danger. Insert Shemar Bell, who becomes her guiding light. I fell in love with Shemar and how he handles Jynx while balancing his own demons. His plate is full, but he is a genuinely imperfect hero who is perfect for Jynx. I enjoyed seeing their own journey run parallel to Jynx’s overall arc to uncover her identity.
I won’t give away any spoilers, but I will state that Fractured Identity is a sweet romance novella that takes readers on a thought-provoking mission as family secrets are exposed and liars lose ground.
It’s a fast but enjoyable read, and fans of Torryn’s storytelling style will appreciate this new release. It hits all the sweet spots of a well-rounded story and hooks readers in on the first scene.
What an amazingly written short story. Drama and mystery were on full blast! I couldn't imagine a life with amnesia. Absolutely no understanding of your past and no help from the man who was suppose to be your husband.
Jynx went through it with that conniving Preston. Thank God for the friend and friendship that she developed with Shemar. He felt something off and so did Jynx, as she felt no connection with Preston or the children.
Shemar helped and stood by Jynx, as she went on the quest to find out exactly who she was and who Preston wasn't to her. He went into protective mood over her, especially when she came to him, after physically being assaulted by Preston. All feelings he started developing could no longer be put on the back burner.
Together they could conquer anything and they did. You will not be disappointed in this read.
This suspenseful thriller had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Jynx wakes up with no memory of her past, and her husband Preston does little to assist her in piecing her life back together. Right from the beginning, Preston’s controlling demeanor grated on my nerves as he tried to mold her into his idea of who she should be, showing little regard for her struggles. Thankfully, Jynx is not the type to give up easily. When inconsistencies begin to surface, she finds support from her neighbor, Sheldon, who helps her navigate the mystery of her lost memories. While there were aspects of the story that I felt could have been explored in greater depth, the unexpected twists and turns kept me thoroughly engaged throughout.
This was the first book that I’ve read by Torryn Santana and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well written, flowed well and definitely kept my attention. In this very suspenseful story, Jynx wakes up in a hospital with amnesia to a “husband” that she feels no connection too. She finds an ally in her next door neighbor, Shemar, and figures out the broken pieces of her life.
Jynx had no memory but she had determination. I was so happy when Shemar didn’t back down from Preston. His persistence paid off he was able to help Jynx find her new beginning. Loved the way Jynx got back at Preston. Great read!
Everyday is a new beginning to live and start over. “ACTION” your not an actress/actor but you are in a different nightmare state of reality and your life isn’t the one that you think is best suited to live.
