Once again, Sarah Noffke has blown me away with her writing skills.
I've been reading the Beaufont books since the very first one was published (The Rebellious Sister), in 2019, and every single book in all the other Beaufont series since then, has just got better and better.
'The Ancient Catalyst' truly gripped me from the first sentence, to the last, and there were times when I could have wept at her descriptions of the world that her characters live in (which, of course, is the same world, same country, same county, same City, that Sarah lives in, too)!
I think this is just one of the many reasons that I love Sarah's books, because she puts everything that she is, and all that surrounds her, within her stories, making them come alive in ways that is SO hard to describe, but which helps us, her readers, share in the beauty that she sees,
This particular book is truly pivotal to what comes next, and there were plenty of surprises in it, for me, that I truly didn't expect - I mean, HE is Mr Z? WHAT! Lol
I was totally blown away, finding out this!
But I came, VERY reluctantly, to the ending of this particular story, trying to absorb all the many, and varied, revelations within it, both saddened that this episode was over, but anxious to start reading the next installment.
I was also blown away by her writing, as she describes the relationship that Gen and Emperor have - sheer poetry, that literally made me cry with the sheer beauty of her words!
But, like all good things, this book came to its end and, as is my wont, I went straight on to the Authors' Notes, as I do so love reading the way that Sarah, and Michael Anderle, so often tease each other.
But, in reading the Authors' Notes, it saddened me to think that this series MIGHT BE Sarah's final Beaufont one. So I just hope that she might follow on with books to read, that involve some of her side characters, who have entertained us all so much over the years!
She mentioned Plato as a possible one, but there are so MANY different characters within these (96, I believe), Beaufont books, who have often been pivotal to the storyline, but which we have learned so little about, or where their information is spread out so widely, we miss much of it!
Who am I kidding? Lol
I'm SO addicted to the Beaufont family, that I'd read just about anything that involves them but, especially, all the side-kicks, or even those characters, often mentioned, but with no real storylines of their own.
There are Giants, and Gnomes. There are mythical beasts, along with the mundane. There are Elves, and Wizards, and every other type of magical being.
I'm sure, if she asked us all, that we'd be able to give her yet another series' worth of stories to write! Lol
But, as the Beaufonts truly are HER babies, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what she comes up with. After all, I thoroughly loved all of her eight other series, written well before the Beaufonts came to my notice!
So, now that I've finished this particular book, I am going to go and re-read a whole series, written by Kat Healy, that I also fell deeply in love with.
The series is called the: "Homesteader Hearth Witch", and her latest book has just been published, but I decided, as I've been reading this with gaps of time in between, that I'm going to go right back to the beginning, and read through it all, one book after the next, so that I can enjoy the continuation of story, as it should really flow.
So I'll be starting with Book One: 'The Problem With Pixies', to see just how much I've forgotten of it and, while doing so, will be trying to find every mention of food and drink, within the series so far, so that Kat can put together a Cook Book of them all!
Once I've read this, I'll add to the review I've already written, to see if I missed mentioning something important to the story, then it'll be on to Book Two after that!
So, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know if I did!
Gen is trying to find out what Frankie Ricci is planning with the cocoa beans he stole and begin her next leadership learning task: three history lessons through time. Meanwhile, the Roque Riders, and other magical races, are being hacked.
Footnote 1): chapter 27. Sully is watching TV. One paragraph it says he’s watching on silent with subtitles, next paragraph he puts his movie on silent.
Footnote 2): Reading the section on Gen’s visit to see the Cuban Missile Crisis was made more interesting in that I had recently watched the movie “Thirteen Days’ about the same subject.
Fave scenes: the cowboy trip, the cloud picnic, watching the destruction of the Berlin Wall and catching Frankie Ricci.
This was another exciting and thrilling addition to this thrilling and exciting series and it does not let up! The rogue riders are still trying to find out what is going on with Frankie Ricci and what he plans to do with the magical coco beans that he stole. All the while Gen must take on the next task from Father Time and Mother Nature on her personal magical journey to unlock her memories. It’s all hands on deck as the magical races are under attack of being hacked, find out the identity of Mr Z and save the day. These authors really know how to weave a tale and draw you in with the twists and turns and the surprises thrown our way, incredible world building and an adventure from start to finish.
Gen and Emperor have been working on unmasking the one trying to stop magic being shared with everyone since the first book, and now the evil has been uncovered and the big fight begins. Awesome build up in this series and I am looking forward to the next books to see how the showdown unfurls.
Seeing (reading and using my Minds Eye),the world created by the Founder, I see the world I'm presently a part of. The correlation is astounding. Continual Change seems to be the Natural Order, Hopefully, the Beaufonts will emerge as the Majority, and We All will move peacefully forward. Thank You,
