I had the pleasure of reading Second Chance Hero by Rebecca Sherwin and I was simply blown away by her talent at making the story of Jenna and Deacon come to life. The two have known each other all their life and have always been best friends, until one Christmas night, Deacon maladroitly tries to show Jenna that he feels more than just friendship for her. Her reaction is not the one he was hoping for. Five years later, the two meet again and their feelings for each other are still there, even stronger, but life has happened during this time and they will have a long journey to go through before finding each other again.

I liked the small town feel of the story as it is colorfully painted by the author. You get to know the dynamic between the characters on multiple levels by learning the story of their family and watching their interactions with their neighbors, their friends and the people in their work environment. As you read Second Chance Hero, you really have the feeling of knowing the characters personally and that is the mark of a great author.

You can feel the passion between Jenna and Deacon from the first pages and the tension keeps on building till the end. Jenna’s indecisiveness will most likely have you scream at her to make the right move and choose Deacon, but her fear is also understandable and I think many people will be able to relate to it. Many moments will also draw a few tears.

Rebecca Sherwin is a promising young author. Even though Second Chance Hero is her first novel, you get the impression that she has been writing a hundred before that have yet to be discovered. I’m eager to read more for her in the future, but for now, I highly recommend this book if you are looking for great story of love and friendship.

I love this kind of romance. When friends become something more. It’s almost guaranteed that at least one of them has always been in love with the either. In some cases it’s both. Jen and Deacon are the second kind. They’ve loved each other from the start but tried to find ways to stay just friends. Both are scared of becoming something more for fear of losing the friendship. So what happens, they run from each other after a passionate kiss and lose touch for a few years. Jen returns to her home town all grown up and with a boyfriend. Deacon now runs a successful construction business and has become a player. The chemistry between Jen and Deac is off the charts as they try to find their way back to each other.

This was a very romantic read full of angst and longing. It was also a bit frustrating how they let things drag on for so long between them. I wanted to yell, “Just admit to each other how you feel already!”
There was a lot of dancing around the obvious and they was kind of annoying! I hate when people get in their own way. A good read!

This book broke my heart, made me mad, and happy all together. I just love Deacon!! He is an amazingly sexy man and his love for Jenna is obvious the moment he walks into her parents' house and sees her after 5 years. I am a huge believer in second chances. I really related more to Deacon than I did Jenna. Actually, if I'm being truthful there were times I wanted to beat the crap out of Jenna. Jenna knew she loved Deacon, but her actions are the exact opposite and truth be told I felt like she was the one that should be groveling and hoping Deacon would give her a second chance. This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won't be my last. It had a good story and like I said, I think in this book Deacon was the good guy from the get go. I like that you could look at it from both POV's and got to see what they both were thinking and feeling. Very well done Ms. Sherwin!!! I give this book 4.5 AMAZEBALLS stars!!

Rebecca Sherwin is now one of my top authors. Second Chance Hero was so beautifully written, I know I’ll never be able to forget it.
Deacon Reid and Jenna Rivera have been best friends ever since they were seven years old. They’ve been in love with each other since they were seven years old. One night, the same night that Deacon loses his father in a car crash, the two share a kiss. When Deacon shuns Jenna afterwards, she runs back to London, where she attends school with Deacon. Deacon never makes it back to London, having to stay in their hometown of Folquay to run his dad’s construction business.
Jenna makes her way back to Folquay five years later. She’s grown up. She has two cake shops and a steady boyfriend. She has it all together. That all flies out the window when her and Deacon lock eyes over the dinner table.
Deacon and Jenna can no longer fight their attraction for each other. All the love they felt years ago is still there, but intensified by a thousand. Can Jenna and Deacon figure out their issues and find their way back to each other? Are they going to screw up the second chance handed to them?
I loved this story. If I’m being honest, I was expecting some lame story that I’ve heard before. That was not what I got. This story is about finding love and taking that second chance by the balls. It’s filled with angst, love, anger, and more emotions than you can think of.
With love there comes sex. Rebecca Sherwin knows how to write sex. The scenes between Deacon and Jenna were explicitly hot. She’s very creative too. I’ll leave that up to your interpretation…
I am reviewing the second release of Second Chance Hero. If you read this before and didn’t like it, give it another chance. She added some things and it’s been edited. I never read the first version, but this version is fantastic!
I chatted Rebecca over Facebook as I read. Our conversation was filled with my shouty capitals and lol moments. This is a great read and I recommend it for everyone.
Five stars for Second Chance Hero, Rebecca. Five stars for Deacon and Jenna and their second chance. May their love live on forever.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

Second Chance Hero was a wonderfully written romance. It had all of the necessary particulars, Ok THE necessary particular, and that would be a swoon worthy leading man. Deacon Reid is definitely smoking hot and a real ladies man.
Jenna and Deacon were two halves making up a whole for their entire childhood. Where one was, there you would find the other...one night after getting together for drinks he kisses her, finally, but he says how he wants to travel after University and Jenna just wants to stay in their village, keeping with everything she's ever known and grown up with. Suffice it to say that they end up going their separate ways, not being able to see the love that the other is harboring. Jenna moved to the big city, has a live in boyfriend and a thriving business and Deacon lives in his hometown taking over the family business after his dad passes. With Jenna coming back home for a visit will she and Deacon FINALLY get together for good, or has she lost her chance when her boyfriend proposes...
Rebecca Sherwin spins a wonderful tale with excellent characters and super writing. She makes things come alive and you feel for Deac and Jenna. You're rooting for their relationship and saying "oh NO" when one of them is being stupid, or says something completely wrong. I really enjoyed this story, so glad our blog was invited to participate in the blog tour!

This book had a great story. I love books about second chances. Stories like these where childhood friends separate and later meet and find that they always had feelings for each other.

I liked Jenna and I liked Deacon and I felt their connection to each other. My problem with this couple was that they were never on the same page. When Deacon was trying to make Jenna listen to him, she would avoid him. Then days later Jenna was trying to make Deacon feel good. I wish that they would stop and just sit down and have one long conversation to clear all the misunderstandings.

There were also too many misunderstandings/assumptions with the ex-girlfriends and the ex-boyfriend. I felt they were too old to be constantly “running” from their issues as well. I felt like they were so angry with each other for so long about something that happened 5 years ago they already forgot what they were angry about.

I loved that these two families (Deacon’s and Jenna’s) had a close relationship for so many years. There was a strong connection. You felt it. I wanted to live there and have dinners with them.

I enjoyed the book. I just wish the characters would stop questioning each other. I think this author has a lot of potential and will be reading more books by her.

This one took me a little while to get into but i'm glad i stuck with it because it ended up being super cute and sexy...lots of angsty moments too, which i loved!!! The only nitpicky thing i would have to say about this is that it's very English so some of the words used took me a while to figure out what they were/meant and there were quite a few typos. Now normally, i'm not one to be so picky about such a thing, especially if i'm really enjoying the story, however...being as how it was very English, it was harder for me to piece together what a sentence was actually supposed to be saying...so at times i was a bit confused and it was frustrating having to move on when i wasn't understanding what it was that was being said! Oh well, i loved all the characters...the family and friend relationships were great and i love the "childhood friends/soulmates" story line...soooo sweet! I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend it!

I absolutely loved this book. I was held captive by Jenna & Deacon's story right from the start. I was even caught by surprise by how hot & steamy it got at times. I was expecting just your run of the mill romance but so not the case. It made it even more your enjoyable to be able imagine the passion that they shared.
I cried, no I blubbered like an idiot throughout the book. I just love when I'm able to emotionally connect with the characters. That, to me, is most critical in earning a five star rating and that, Ms. Sherwin, you have successfully achieved! This is going on my "A Summer To Re-read" List.

"She's like a siren, Mum. I thought she'd moved on, I thought we both had. But her being back here...I can't take it." Deacon Reid

I think I will always be a sucker for a love story about second chances. And of course I am always glad to find a new book boyfriend. Deacon Reid isn't my usual type looks wise (except for the whole totally fit body thing he has going on). But Deacon Reid had my heart from almost the beginning of this story.

In Rebecca Sherwin's Second Chance Hero, Jenna Rivera and Deacon Reid have been friends since they were babies. They have grown up together, lived near each other and even have parents who are best friends.

One cold Christmas night while they're still in University, Deacon decides to take their friendship to the next level. Jenna and Deacon share a life changing kiss. So you think they'll be golden and where's the second chance going to come in right? Only that's not what happens at all. After this magical kiss, Deacon says something really stupid to Jenna. Any chance they had at being together ended that night.

Fast forward five years and a lot has happened. Life changed drastically for both Jenna and Deacon. Their lives didn't turn out even close to the way they thought they would. After that Christmas night Jenna went back to London to finish at University and Deacon, well Deacon lost his dad and stayed in his town of Folquay to run the business dad left behind.

Our former best friends are reunited on the night of Jenna's birthday. Jenna is back home and her family has invited Deacon's family over for a birthday dinner. Neither Jenna nor Deacon really want to be thrown into this situation together. Jenna because Deacon hurt her so terribly all those years ago and Deacon, well, he knows what an ass he was and has been since Jenna left. Deacon is also hurting since after his dad died, Jenna left and went back to London. She wasn't there to help him with his grief and I'm sure he feels a little resentful. I think that night they both realize they still have feelings for each other. Both too stubborn to give the other a chance.

Ok...That's not really true. I think Deacon is ready to pick up where they left off that Christmas night so long and Jenna isn't having it. The two of them went from best friends to barely knowing each other. There's also a lot of hostility between them at the beginning. It actually hurt me because obviously Deacon still has strong feelings for Jenna.

They're most definitely not the same Uni students as they were when Jenna left. Jenna a dark haired beauty, comes back to Folquay, a blonde bombshell. She also comes back with a boyfriend called Kip (he's just ew). Not that Deacon's been an angel while Jenna's been in London. He finds and beds "trait girls". Girls similar to Jenna who just don't match up so he never has to have a relationship with them.

While visiting, Jenna decides to buy a bake shoppe in town that has closed down. I forgot to mention Jenna is a successful bake shoppe owner with two shoppes already open in London.

When Jenna decides she's staying in town, Deacon decides he's going to show Jenna how much she means to him and make her understand they should be together. It's not an easy task. Jenna has Kip and she's very closed to the idea of any kind of relationship with Deacon. Deacon works hard to prove himself to Jenna. But, every time he takes two steps forward, he gets thrown back like four steps. Then there's a plot twist that about broke my heart.

Through all of this Jenna comes to realize that she does love Deacon and she always has. But, she doesn't fall right into his arms. She fights the feelings she has and keeps remembering how much Deacon hurt her.

Deacon and Jenna do have some series chemistry. You'll find out what I mean. Especially when Deacon's mom catches them in his back yard like two teenagers. I'll also share even though Deacon does some boneheaded things, you'll cheer for him to win back the girl of his dreams. I did. All I wanted was for Jenna to tell Deacon how much she loved him. Hell, I wanted to tell Deacon how much I loved him. I always forget they're not real. Anyway, get it, read it, I know you'll love it!! A four lip smack review for Second Chance Hero by Rebecca Sherwin. OMG I almost forgot...I love the hero meaning in the book. It's really, really sweet.

"What we've got is special; we know each other, really know each other, from the very first chapter. We've skipped a few pages and lost our grasp on each other but she's here, I'm here. We got a second chance at first love." Deacon "Second Chance Hero"

5 stars for "Second Chance Hero" by Rebecca Sherwin. Loved this story !! Ms Sherwin has given us a debut novel that is about family, friendship, love, lust, loss, and second chances. I was hooked from the first chapter.

Jenna Rivera and Deacon Reid have been best friends since childhood. Their families live across the lane from each other, they share family dinners and holidays. They also share the belief that Jenna and Deacon are destined to be together. One Christmas Jenna and Deacon find themselves alone on the beach, where one unexpected kiss changes everything between them. They both run from the confusing feelings they experience in that kiss, their friendship fractured.

5 1/2 years later Jenna is living in London where she settles for a "safe" relationship with Kip {a stockbroker}. Deacon who has suffered the lost of his father and Jenna on the same night {the night on the beach} avoids forming any emotional attachments. His life, revolves around running his father's business and his casual sexual relationships.

Circumstances bring Deacon and Jenna together again some 5 years later, what follows is their struggle to reclaim the friendship they lost and a second chance at exploring the possibilites of love they did not have the courage to declare that night long ago on the beach. They try to work through the anger, mistrust and hurt feelings that has torn their friendship apart and turned them into different people.

I found myself rooting for Deacon, he is sure of what he wants, he knows that he broke Jenna's heart that night on the beach, and he is fighting with everything he has and is to prove his loves for her. He wants a second chance to prove he can be the man she needs and deserves. Deacon is emboldened by his belief that his father always knew he and Jenna belonged together, it is his guiding light and he will stop at nothing to win Jenna back {sighs}.

Jenna on the other hand is so afraid of the all consuming love she has always felt for Deacon. She cannot face being rejected. She is still so angry and hurt that can't let go of her relationship with Kip. She uses it like a sheild too keep Deacon at a distance and off balance. She settles for a relationship with Kip that is safe, a relationship that is void of passion and the burning love she feels for Deacon. I was exasperated with Jenna, I wanted to shake some sense into her.
.
The sexual tension between Jenna and Deacon jumps off the page. While they are trying to resolve the mistrust, anger and hurt feelings, they cannot help but give into the passion, they feel for each other. Can they learn to put the past behind them? Can Jenna forgive Deacon for breaking heart? Will Jenna be able to admit to herself that what she feels for Kip is not love? Will Deacon have his Second Chance to be Jenna's Hero ?? You'll have to read "Second Chance Hero" by Rebecca Sherwin, to find the answers..

this book had a good start. period.

Jenna and Deacon have been best friends since basically birth. One thing led to the other, they kissed, and then everything went downhill from there because of a tragedy that happened in Deacon's family. 5 years later they reunite. Deacon is basically a bachelor, going from girl to girl (ok not THAT many girls), and Jenna has a boyfriend. Kip.

Ok so it's ok from there.

rant coming.. beware of spoilers

Jenna reminded me of Tru Bennett from "The Mighty Storm", because they were both cheating on their boyfriend with their childhood friend. They never had the guts to break off from their current relationship , the one where it's obvious their not happy with. I don't get why this went on for so long with Jenna. I was expecting her to break it off with Kip about 30-40% ago.

She just really frustrates the hell out of me. And almost everyone in Deacon and Jenna's family knows that she has an affair with Deacon, heck I think the whole town may know. I understand that he is better for her rather than Kip, but I'm just wondering why no one ever encouraged her to break it off from Kip, before going into a deeper relationship with Deacon. Not even Deacon told her to break it off with him. I mean you could tell he was upset that she was still with Kip, but he never told her to break it off. WTF??

There was also another issue in the beginning. Before Jenna and Deacon even slept together. Deacon had his little harem. And Jenna was really jealous about that. It's ok to be jealous, but she didn't have a right to tell deacon to get rid of them, I mean she's freakin cheating on her boyfriend. Kip may not be the most caring or handsome guy, but don't be a jerk, be the bigger person and let him go.

Jenna FINALLY ends it with Kip, around 80%. But the thing is, this isn't just a short story, it's a really long book. Well it felt long to me. She kept 2 men on a chain for that long of a time. And she doesn't even love Kip.

Ok so in the end, as you can tell, this book was just not for me. I'm hoping I read everything in the book correctly because near the end I was totally skimming, so I apologize if the stuff in here is not 100% correct.

Well, when I first read the blurb for Second Chances I admit I got interested in it, but I wasn’t expecting to like it so much! And I loved it! The writing, the characters, the story…

This is a story that, just like the title, deals with second chances…In life we not always get a do-over, but we might get a do-better! And I felt this in this story. I don’t think the characters would have felt, loved and dealt with everything as well as they did if they haven’t been through all they have. And not only the main characters, all of them.

I liked the fact that the story wasn’t focused only in the main characters too. The dialogues, the story, the character, it all felt natural to me, nothing forced. Everything was supposed to be where they are! No matter if things worked in the past or in the present or in both…

This is a book about maturity, learning from mistakes and showing that nothing is perfect. Life is imperfect and beautiful because of it! People have flaws and we gotta learn to accept this fact and move on, not put them on a high scale only to have them fall when they make a mistake. This book taught me about this a lot. We gotta learn how to deal with the rocks life put in our paths and also to reach out for the ones we love and who love us!

Deacon is such a great character! He isn’t flawless and because of that he is PERFECT (*swoons*) and Jen is completely original, when she lets loose from the prison she put herself in when she first ran away from the problems. Both of them are runners, but they knowledge this fact and they learn from the past and grow up.

There were a few grammar mistakes or some spelling, but nothing major, a good new formatting can change that and it won’t prevent you to completely fall in love with this story and characters.

I was hooked from the start and, as I said, this story flows very naturally. It’s not short, but it isn’t too long either…The length is enough for the author’s talent to make an appearance! Everything flows in a good pace, so it doesn’t get tiresome, but it looks longer than it is.

I loved to read this story and I’m great I’m finding new great authors to adore!

P.S.: Ohhh not to mention the HOT, HOT scenes

Having your heart broken by the love of your life is never an easy thing to deal with. Jenna deals with it the best she can and runs off to London to escape the pain and the boy who she will never forget. Now with a boyfriend, Kip, Jenna returns home and must face the demon from her past.... the boy who never truly left her heart.... Deacon.

Deacon and Jenna had been childhood friends that had feelings for each other but the timing wasn't right and things were said that crushed each other. They both run and now their lives are so different. I found myself a little frustrated with Jenna when she returns home because she was so cold to Deacon...I know she was hurt but after years and years of friendship and now being an adult I felt she should have handled the situation a little better. There is definitely a triangle in the story but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a love triangle because I questioned Jenna's feelings toward Kip from the beginning.

I didn't like Kip's character at all but I found myself loving Deacon! He was one of those that you found your heart breaking for! Jenna kept stringing him along and he was so determined to have her as his! Deacon is one of those guys you want to throw you up against the way and have his way with you.

The story is told from both Jenna and Deacon's point of view.... needless to say I enjoyed Deacon's point of view so much more!!! I think I am a big fan of stories told from the guys perspective. I think the author kept you hooked from the beginning and interested until the very end! I was pulled into the story and thought the ending was phenomenal!

One night Jenna and Deacon share a kiss and a heartbreaking revelation. Deacon and Jenna have been best friends since they were children. Deacon destroys Jenna that night. One conversation seemed to end their friendship and history. Tragedy strikes at the same time and while a part Deacon and Jenna change. Their lives and their vision for the future are no longer the same. Five years pass and they are thrown together again. Deacon has been with his fair share of women who mean nothing to him. Jenna is in a committed relationship with a stockbroker. She is in a secure and fulfilling relationship. At least that's what she thought until Deacon enters her life again. Deacon is now on a mission to prove to Jenna that he can be the only man she will ever want, or need. Will he be her second chance Hero? Or will the years of distance prove that they have changed to much?

I was team Deacon all the way in this book. He was her best friend and I am such a sucker for that kind of love. Jenna was a strong, passionate, and very stubborn. Deacon didn't give up easily and they both fit together. I enjoyed seeing everything play out. Their families played a huge roll in the story. It was amusing, intense, sweet, and sad all at the same time.

This was the kind of book that drew you in and kept you wondering if these two were going to get their HEA. I liked this book and read it in no time at all. It was my kind of sweet read.

Review of Second Chance Hero by Rebecca Sherwin

Review done for Hooked on Books

4 out of 5 stars

Jenna Rivera and Deacon Reid have been best friends ever since they were kids. They were always inseparable. When they decide to cross the friendship line, everything falls apart. Jenna dreamed of staying in their small town and Deacon wanted to live in London.

Five and a half years later, they come face to face with each other. Both are different people now. Deacon is into mindless sex and has had to take over his father’s business in their hometown. Jenna is the one who ran away to London and opened up her own bakery.

Their love for each other has never died but there are many obstacles in their way including Jenna’s boyfriend.

Overall this was a pretty good book. I really liked Deacon, Jenna not so much. I thought she was just using Deacon and her boyfriend. She kept stringing them along for too long. Their families were also back and forth with agreeing with her and Deacon getting together or not.

I also thought there were aspects of the plot that were going to be further developed like when Jenna’s boyfriend was looking into her financials. We didn’t really find out what he wanted. There could have been a bit more angst and fighting between Jenna and her ex when they part ways.

The ending was really good and I would recommend this book to read.

There are love story that set the world on fire from the first look, and there are the ones there are the slow burns. This is one of them, they will try and try again. Jenna and Deacon have been best friends since they were seven years old, but after one bad night things went badly and she was off to London and it's was another five years before they saw each other again.
This story is about two friend growing up and finding love the heartbreaks are real and so is the love. This story will make you believe in second chances.

Jenna and Deacon have always loved each other but tried to stay just friends. Their families, who are very close have also always believed they are destined to be together.
One night everything changes and ends their friendship. They both run from each other and their feelings.
Five years later, Jenna is back and they are both fighting the fire they know is there.
Jenna has her 'safe' boyfriend and Deacon has his 'trait' girls but can they move past that and give into the love they feel for each other?!?
You will have to read to find out ;) and trust me you will not be sorry you did!
This is a very good read and I am a huge fan of Rebecca Sherwin. I look forward to more from her!

A fantastic fairground ride of ups, downs, twists and turns. My emotions were all over the place and I loved every single second of it! Deacon and Jenna are normal people, flawed and at times, incredibly stupid and annoying. I wanted to hug them and throttle them in equal measures. A sure sign of an amazing book for me is when I am so overwhelmed by an emotion, be it sadness, anger or heart-singing happiness, that I have to stop reading and just let it all sink in. This book caused this reaction more than once. I was hooked throughout and my huge goofy smile is still firmly in place.

Second Chance Hero by Rebecca Sherwin is a scorching hot read. Jenna and Deacon are two of the most stubborn people ever.

Jenna and Deacon have been in love with each other literally their entire lives. Too bad neither one of them has realized this yet.

Usually the stories I throw myself into are full of supernatural creatures, strange events, impossible settings, and characters that belong to another world. Because of this, I felt a bit hesitant before writing this review. Second Chance Hero falls under a genre of books that I normally don't read, so I wasn't exactly sure how I was supposed to approach it. Regardless, as I read it, the story of Jenna Rivera and Deacon Reid provided me a nice break from the metaphysical, while handing me an opportunity to dive into a story that takes place in the real world.

In the small town of Folquay, two best friends are forced to face their past. Five years ago their lives parted tragically when things didn't go as expected during a confusing and heated night at the beach. Jenna, on the one hand, ran to become a city girl, trying to escape her past and forget about the boy who broke her heart. All this while Deacon turned into a stranger in his own town, as he attempted to deal with his father's death and the loss of his best friend. But due to life's unexpected twists and turns, the two meet again, somewhat unwillingly, and are pressured to rediscover their lost feelings for each other. In a romantic and passionate tale, Rebecca Sherwin tells the story of two best friends who get their second chance at love.

The book alternates between narrating from Jenna's and Deacon's point of view. This specific technique can be quite effective because it provides the reader with a fuller and rounder perspective of the story being told, without jumping into a third person style. However, as readers, sometimes we tend to prefer either one of the two narrations. In my case, it was Deacon's. For some reason, Deacon's chapters allowed me to rest from all the drama that Jenna often created. It is understandable, of course, to feel confused and frustrated when being put into the situation Jenna and Deacon were in, but I thought he seemed to handle things much better than she did. Jenna seemed to carry around a blind and hypocritical perspective that bothered me a lot.

Something else I noticed about this particular story was how much emotion it held. Not only the characters, but as the reader, one's emotions change continuously as the story progresses. Maybe Jenna's blindness and Deacon's determination were carefully plotted so that the reader was forced to react accordingly to the events in the story. Often, my feelings felt in synch with that of the characters. Given that this is a story that shifts constantly from strong feelings of love to strong feelings of hate, it was important to create that exact connection with the reader.

Lastly, my favorite aspect of this story is not Jenna's and Deacon's relationship as a couple, but their relationship as friends. There is nothing better than to read about a pair of friends falling in love. A relationship that is based on friendship doesn't give room for any type of lies or tricks because there is no way to escape from someone who knows you better than the back of their hand. Jenna and Deacon have known each other practically since they were born, and have been part of each other's lives for as long as they can remember. It was so heartwarming to read about them reuniting after years of being apart. Of course there were fights. Lots of them. But it seems like their underlying friendship was what kept bringing them back to each other's arms.

Overall, this was quite a relaxing and easy read. I enjoyed being pulled into this whirlwind of passion and emotion, regardless of the occasional frustration it might have brought me (Seriously, Jenna! Get it together!)

3.5 stars..... I love second chance stories however the heroine was just too insecure and whiney for my tastes....I mean who accepts a proposal just because the are not sure if the man they really love feels the same way, especially when that man had done everything to show her how he feels.

Laurie’s Damn Near Perfect Book Checklist:

A story about a couple who have known each other their entire lives. – Check
Too deep in love with each other to recognize that their feelings are mutual. – Check
A misunderstanding or miscommunication drives them apart for several years. – Check Set in the UK. – Check
 The Accent – Check
Lots and lots of British slang and idioms – Check. Check. Check.
Involves baked goods. – An added bonus

As a book, Second Chance Hero totally checked my boxes. I love, love, love a story about childhood sweethearts who have grown apart, lost touch and then find their way back to each other. Throw in British accents and people who wear jumpers, love footy, put luggage in the boot of their cars, eat biscuits and are knackered and well, you had me at – Okay, you just had me.

Deacon Reid and Jenna Reid have known each other all their lives. They were best friends as children and know all the things that they should about one another. A kiss, a misunderstanding and years without speaking have caused hurt feelings and damage to their relationship. They haven’t seen or spoken to each other for nearly five years and when Jenna returns home; her family decides that it is high time for her and Deacon to see each other and figure things out. Their reunion is uncomfortable to say the least. The simmering anger and love between these two is palpable. But it’s also very clear that their feelings have not evaporated over the years.

Jenna has spent her years away attending university and then building a successful bakery business in London. She has a boyfriend, who we are not meant to like. Jenna has also done everything to remake herself, including dying her dark hair, blonde.

Deacon has spent the last several years not only missing his best friend, but also mourning the loss of his dad. He’s also been trying to fill his dad’s shoes by looking after his mum and running the family construction business. Then there are the women – all poor substitutes for Jenna. No one can come close – none of them are even serious contenders, at least in Deacon’s mind. They all sort of resemble her – Jenna, not realizing this fact, refers to them as “trait girls.”

When Jenna and Deacon do connect – there are lots of stops and starts. As well as roadblocks. First one is being Jenna’s boyfriend Kip. So I am not a big fan of infidelity, but for some reason, it didn’t bother me here. Kip was a twit and well, in my mind nothing should get in between Jenna and her Red.
There were times where I wanted to go all Loretta Castorini on Deacon and Jenna and tell them to, “Snap out of it.” But you can also put yourself in their shoes and understand how they got to where they are – Jenna and Deacon knew each other as children and young adults, not as grown-ups, so assumptions run rampant between them. This causes more hurt feelings and recriminations. It’s only when they realize that they can have an adult relationship that things get real.
The passion between Deacon and Jenna is just bloody hot. Pure and simple. Just going to say that for two people who had only kissed once several years ago, this couple did not need a sexual map. They knew each other intuitively. Not to be a spoiler wench, but I am fanning myself just thinking about the scenes that were set in Deacon’s garden. Millions could be made bottling that brand of sensuality.

I loved Second Chance Hero— not only because it has the elements that I love, but because as you read this book, you can feel the love and passion that the author put into writing it. I loved that family is woven tightly here. Second Chance Hero is Rebecca Sherwin’s first book, she has published it independently and it is an brilliant achievement for her first time out.

Second Chance Hero is the first book in what I hope will be a long line of books in this series. I am looking forward to reading more from Rebecca Sherwin.

In SCH we meet Jenna and Deacon. Jenna and Deacon have been friends since forever, or at least what seems like forever. But one Christmas events take place that changes things and threatens to tear that friendship to pieces.

Jenna is now a city girl, determined and happy. She runs her own cake shops; 2 of them no less, and has her boyfriend; Kip. Deacon, now owns D R & Son Property Development. Deacon isn't short of attention from females, and he has used this to select his "trait girls". This is Deacon's way of dealing with everything that has happened over the years.

But now as Jenna has returns home, hers and Deacon's paths collide once more. Only this time they are both older and should be more aware of their feelings. What will happen this time round? Can the friendship they once had be repaired and restored?

This is the first book by Rebecca that I have read, and I hadn't heard of it until a couple of months ago when I offered to read it. I'm so glad I read it and I can not wait for Rebecca's next book!

Ok SCH...

Wow! No really!! Rebecca has talent. I loved how I was sucked into this story. I could feel the emotion from both Jenna and Deacon, I was completely taken by both these characters. There was more than one time when I could have cried for one or both of these two!

I love how Jenna has come back to Folquay; 5 years later; a city girl but at the same time still remembers her life and feelings before she left. In that 5 years she has grown into a confident young woman with determination. She believes that she knows what she wants too, until...

Since Deacon's father died, Deacon has been running the family business and has been using sex with his "trait girls" as a means of escape. But Deacon has had a rough ride, the night Jenna left Folquay was the night his father died, so Deacon was left feeling as though he had no-one to turn to. But then Jenna walks back into Folquay and back into Deacon's world.

As this is Rebecca's first novel, she has done a fantastic job. Especially as SCH is written in two POV's, but at no point is this confusing. The emotion that Rebecca has put into her writing could be felt throughout the book. There is so much heartbreak, grief and passion! It was practically oozing from my kindle!

Rebecca has also managed to bring the world of Deacon and Jenna to life. I never had a problem visualising any of the details, and I felt as though I was there alongside them!

I reached a point in SCH when I thought maybe; just maybe... but then I found Rebecca's curveball and I was left shouting at my kindle! As much as I love Deacon and Jenna, I did find myself wanting to grab a hold of Jenna every now and then to give her a little slap and tell her to open her eyes! Deacon on the other hand... He had me from the start! I think I may have found myself another book boyfriend (yeah, yeah I know!!) He's such a hottie *sigh*

So overall, I've got to say I loved this book. I can't wait to read Rebecca's next book; Survival. I'm so glad I've had the chance to interact with Rebecca, become a member of her street team, and to have read SCH. I have also had Rebecca on my blog as part of my 1 Year Blogiversary Celebrations; Rebecca's exclusive post can be found here.

If you love romance books and books with a bit of spice then Second Chance Hero is definitely worth giving a chance.

I picked up this book because one of the book discussion groups I'm in was going to be discussing it. I have to say, as someone who had never heard of Rebecca Sherwin before, I was pleasantly surprised by this book.

The book follows the story of Jenna and Deacon as they struggle to overcome the hurt of their past and find a way to build a future together. I knew right from the prologue that this book was going to take me on quite the roller coaster ride of emotions- and I was right. Deacon and Jenna have a chance to start something deeper than the friendship that they've had for their entire lives. However, one comment and a few things left unsaid and that chance was blown out the window.

Flash forward five years, Jenna is living a life in London that she doesn't like or want. Deacon is struggling to move forward after the death of his father and taking over the family business. Jenna has Kip and Deacon has his "trait girls". Upon returning home for a family dinner, Jenna and Deacon are somewhat forced together and this is where the lives they've carefully constructed to keep the hurt away starts to crumble. They both realize how much they've been missing by staying away.

Jenna decides that she is going to stay in her hometown and open a branch of her cake shops there. Deacon decides that he is going to be the one to design it for her (he runs a construction company). This causes some interesting and entertaining encounters between the two. But it also warmed my heart with how much detail Deacon put into what he was doing for his girl.

Just when I thought they were going to finally talk to each other and lay everything out on the table, something would happen and one or the other, or both of them would withdraw into themselves. Throw in scheming Lizzie, and up to no good Kip and the drama just piled on. There was so much back and forth between those two I wanted to jump into my kindle and lock them in a room together until they had it out! The scene at the cematary broke my heart for both of them. There was so much hurt and sadness, but I was glad that they were able to handle that step together. Eventually everything comes to a head and our couple has some tough decisions to make. Do they let go of the past and move forward towards a future together, or do they hold onto the hurt and keep living a life they don't want...

One of the things that I absolutely loved about this book was the secondary cast of characters. Jenna's relationship with her brother, sister and parents was very realistic and made her character even more relateable. And Deacon's interactions with his mom and brother, and the healing that they went through during the book were heartwarming.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. The story was different than what I've been reading and was a nice change of pace. The writing was well paced and thought out. However, I would've liked more of a conclusion to the storyline involving Kip (no spoilers there). That being said, I look forward to getting my hands on some more of Rebecca Sherwin's work in the future.

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for my honest review

This book extracted every emotion I had – from the lows of angst and despair to the highs of love and romance, all entwined with sensual interludes.

Second Chance Hero takes place in a small coastal town in England, where Deacon Reid and Jenna Rivera have grown up together as staunch best friends until one Christmas night on a break from University five years ago, everything changed. Once that step was taken nothing could ever go back to the way it was. Due to the drastic circumstances of that night, Jenna flees back to London leaving Deacon behind to cope with a tragedy she was unaware of at the time.

Now five years later Jenna is visiting back home and returning as a successful bakery owner, with her stockbroker boyfriend in tow. Deacon has not rested on his laurels as he has built up his late father’s construction company and is now a highly successful businessman. He is known as a total player and has many a woman competing for his sexual prowess.

Both families have always known of Deacon and Jenna’s connection and have envisioned a day when they would eventually be together, but after that night neither has spoken or seen each other until now, five years later. When they meet they both feel the connection but both hiding a multitude of emotions.

Jenna is so stubborn and will not admit to herself her true feelings, even after the passionate encounters she has with Deacon she continues to ‘cheat’ on her boyfriend (who is a totally A-hole, let me tell you!) Deacon however is not prepared to let Jenna go this time and puts up a strong fight to win her back.

The erotic scenes with Deacon and Jenna were wonderfully written and totally made me fall hard for Deacon, he was absolutely divine! With his strong personality, his good looks and his ah-mah-zing body. Sah-woon!

Jenna was a lot less likeable and had me swearing my ass off throughout the book. How could she not see what was staring her in the face? A man so inconsiderate of her feelings yet she blatantly accepted everything he said. And there was Deacon willing to offer her everything in the World, who knew her inside out, who shared her dreams and supported her. So what does she do? Well read the book and perhaps you will be shouting a whole lot of WTF-ery at her.

However it all comes good in the end so yes there is a HEA but only after a whole mahoosive curveball that is thrown near the end that had my heart in my mouth and panting with panic.

So yes I do recommend this book but with a warning – do not read in public as you may find yourself swearing and ranting at Jenna. And how silly would you look. Ahem…yes… lesson learnt. Anyhow - wonderful read! Oh and a new book boyfriend for the Lush List!

I'm a sucker for stories where lovers are given a second chance at love! When you first meet Deacon and Jenna, they are childhood best friends! You can tell there is something more going on with them, but they are both playing it cool! Then one night their friendship steps into the "it's complicated" status! Fast forward 5 years later and you would think these two can't stand each other! The back and forth banter between these two is funny and exhausting! I liked Jenna's smart mouth! I'm starting to notice that authors are making the female characters with more sass, and I like it! Jenna has done something that neither she or Deacon thought she could do and she's proud of her accomplishments, as she should be! Deacon is also successful, but his life hasn't gone according to plan! He's a man whore, using the girls in town as Jenna subsitutes. He knows this, and realizes quickly that there's nothing like the real thing and he's determined to have her! He's persistent, not in a creepy stalker type way, but in a very loving and attentive way. He goes out of his way to make sure Jenna knows that she's the one for him. He tells her several times, that he will wait for her! SWOON!!! Deacon knows Jenna better than she knows herself and is able to read her like a book! Jenna returns to their small town with her new "city girl" attitude, and Deacon calls her out on it!
While Jenna's character has a lot of sass, she's also indecisive to the point where I didn't feel like she deserved Deacon! She keeps using Deacon's past as an excuse why she can't trust him, but the truth is, in some ways she is a coward who runs away when things get tough! Jenna's words say one thing, but her actions say something else! I wasn't sure if even Jenna knew what she wanted!

The journey these two go through to fall in love with each other again is emotional and passionate. Even though I felt like the story was a little long, it was necessary to show the growth of Jenna and Deacon's characters. They realize that their relationship is going to take maturity, meaning they can't run, and that they need to communicate! One of my favorite things about this book, is the involvement of both Deacon and Jenna's families. Yes, they give their unwanted opinions, but they are extremely close and play a huge role in the story, providing the extra support that Deacon and Jenna need so desperately need!

Readers will connect with Deacon and Jenna right away and get caught up in their story!
