Robert Swindells was born in Bradford in 1939, the eldest of five children. He left the local Secondary Modern School at fifteen to work as a copy holder on the local newspaper. At seventeen he enlisted in the RAF and served for three years, two in Germany. On being discharged he worked as a clerk, engineer and printer until 1969 when he entered college to train as a teacher having obtained five 'O' levels at night-school. His first book 'When Darkness Comes' was written as a college thesis and published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1972. In 1980 he gave up teaching to write full time. He likes travelling and visits many schools each year, talking and reading stories to children. He is the secutatry of his local Peace Movement group. Brother in the Land is his first book for Oxford University Press. He is married with two grown-up daughters and lives in Bradford.

I loved the story it finished to quick I wish it was longer

ok, minu närvid ilmselgelt õudukaid ei kannata, isegi kui tegu on nooremale ja keskmisele koolieale suunatud teosega. umbes poole raamatu peal murdusin ja lugesin lõpu ära lihtsalt selleks, et olla kindel, et on mingi piir, kui ilgeks see kõik läheb. ja siis ikkagi läks vahepeal üsna ilgeks ja... okei, mul on isiklik probleem igasuguste taruorganismidega - kui see kihab JA mõtleb, pole see minu jaoks. hiiri jm närilisi ma otseselt ei karda, aga kes kardab, sellele ma ka seda raamatut ei soovita. või siis just soovitan, kui on soov närvikõdi järele, mis vist ongi õudukate lugemise mõte? oh, ma ei tea!

This is a nice mix of mystery and mischief. A good option for summer vacations. The characters are completely down to earth. The story grows on the reader slowly.

Devo ammettere che questo piccolo libricino, con la sua semplice storia, mi ha entusiasmata non meno di quando lo lessi la prima volta alle medie. Fortunatamente non me lo ricordavo quasi per niente, ed è quindi stato spontaneo farmi nuovamente coinvolgere in un crescendo di tensione. Non dico che faccia proprio paura, ma a me un po' di inquietudine l'ha trasmessa. Direi che è scritto molto bene!

Letto alle elementari.Ne conservo un buon ricordo,mi è piaciuto di più dei diversi Piccoli Brividi che avevo letto allora
