This is about the third time I've read this book and it's never made much of an impression on me. While it tries very hard to be funny and satirical, it feels like it's been hastily put together and thrown out as product to make money. The "Mike", "Micky", "Davy" and "Peter" in this book aren't necessarily the Monkees and could be any other four random characters an the book would be the same. Published in 1967, "The Monkees Go Mod" is of interest only as an artifact/relic of the 1960s. Beyond that, kind of a waste of time. If you're a die hard Monkees fan like me, you'll probably want to own it anyway.
I think you have to be a fan of the series to really like this book. It certainly followed the craziness of the show, especially when the boys became the Agents of MONKEE. The cartoons were probably the best part of the book, there just weren't enough of them.
I need everyone to know that I love the monkees so much and that they are so important to me. This book is a goofy little creative collage of bits and bobs and fun things. And also period-typical racism à la monkees chow mein 😡
This book is a collection of sketches and cartoons depicting the madcap adventures of the Monkees that are similar to those featured on their tv show. It’s an easy and fun read with plenty of great photos of the band members.
Clearly just some very silly fan filler. Written by someone who must’ve spent decades on his yearbook committee, crafting the most ridiculous captions.
