His work includes political suspense, private eye novels, urban suspense, humor, occult, crime caper, police procedural, espionage, historical, futuristic, amateur detective, thriller; virtually every mystery sub-genre. John Lutz published his first short story in 1966 in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine and has been publishing regularly ever since. He is the author of more than fifty novels and 250 short stories and articles.
His novels and short fiction have been translated into virtually every language and adapted for almost every medium. He is a past president of both Mystery Writers of America and Private Eye Writers of America. He's on a road trip to New York... only stopping long enough in each town on the way to grab, torture and kill a young woman. He's not to discriminate .. as long as they're young, single, pretty and blond. And when he's done he sends a chess piece to Frank Quinn and his team.
They decide to use Pearl, a member of Frank's team and live-in lover, as bait. Only the killer is two steps ahead of everyone else.
He has now roused the beast ,,, Frank is taking this personally and it's game on!
I will tell you right now .. there is a HUGE cliff hanger as this short story is actually a prequel for FRENZY.
Personally, I'm not all that upset ... FRENZY is in my TBR pile .. somewhere. I would highly recommend you have a copy of FRENZY on hand so you can start reading as soon as you're finished with this one.

Non-essential prequel
I enjoy Lutz's books, especially the Frank Quinn series. This book, a prequel to Frenzy, is short and serves primarily as an intro to the characters, both good guys as well as bad.
It's interesting enough that I will move on to Frenzy.

I can never go wrong with a John Lutz book!

Read this on Kobo. It's a short story, the prequel to Frenzy, which I just started. Just from the prequel and the beginning of Frenzy, I know I'm in for quite a ride. The serial killer is called D.O.A. He taunts Quinn with his calls and messages. He is a bloodthirsty bastard. Will love Frenzy, I'm sure.

I cannot recommend this book.

This book is a lead in to the follow up book. If you want to know the ending you will need to by the next book in the Quinn series.
