Most of this was way over my head, and I just skimmed the parts that I could understand. But it was still very interesting to see the conclusions that philosophers are coming to about LLMs, and their implications for what exactly language is and its relationship to intelligence. The bottom line for the average person from this book (that I was able to get) was that LLMs are absolutely not intelligent, but that this does not matter in terms of how much of an impact that they can have, and also that they are revealing interesting things about the nature of language itself that should not be ignored.
