A quiet town. A cursed statue. An ancient evil claiming its next victim…
Sixteen-year-old Kara Mills expects her summer in Silver Falls to be dull—spent in a small town she doesn’t care for with an aunt she barely knows. But boredom quickly turns to dread when Aunt Adrienne brings home an eerie statue from a local thrift shop. What starts as a strange curiosity soon takes on a life of its own.
The statue vanishes and reappears in different places around the house, leaving Kara to question her own senses. While she assumes it’s her aunt playing tricks, Adrienne, a deeply spiritual woman, insists that a powerful spirit resides within the statue—and she welcomes it.
At first, Kara is skeptical. She can only watch as her quirky aunt offers small gifts to the statue and talks to it as if it’s listening. But as the days pass, Adrienne’s fascination turns into obsession and devotion. She grows cold and distant toward Kara, her behavior more erratic—and dangerous.
Soon Kara can no longer deny that something is very wrong. Terrified and alone, she witnesses her aunt falling deeper under the influence of a dark force. As evil begins to pervade Adrienne’s entire home, Kara must confront the truth behind the statue before it consumes them both. But the malevolent entity within won’t let go without a fight—and the cost of saving Adrienne could be more than Kara is prepared to pay.
Brilliant read. No Rand in this one but still as good and kept me reading. Characters relatable in their good and their bad. Nice to have more of the grumpy Arthur and more of an explanation of why he is the way he is. Darkness and light with a bit of a twist I did not see coming. Another excellent read from Rockwell Scott
Kara is staying with her aunt for the summer in a small town. After her aunt buys a creepy looking statue at a thrift store, things get strange. What is in the statue? Can Kara save everything? Haunting read.
It's been ages since I've read a good horror/haunting book and this one was perfect. Creepy and scary and had me listening for, and hearing things in the darkness of my bedroom while reading this book at night. Looking forward to more by this author.
Excellent! Mr. Scott knocks it out of the ballpark with another phenomenal read. If you're looking for horror, then this is the author you need. This book is creepy with a demonic entity. It was a fast read for me because I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
It was a nice read; I liked the setting and the plot in general, but there were some unanswered questions in the end which could have been addressed. Overall, a good horror read.
