Rate this book
A long-awaited reunion and a fragile happiness . . . The second volume of the official webcomic based on the hit webnovel by Suji Kim.

Riftan has returned from the royal capital just in time to deal with a group of rogue knights attacking the gates of Anatol. When the dust settles, he and Maxi finally have time to get to know each other properly, but Maxi struggles to show Riftan who she really is, afraid that he will reject her. Even worse are her fears that the next time Riftan is called away he might never return. Determined to prove her worth and secure an unshakeable place in her new home, Maxi agrees to help the sorcerer Ruth create a new magical device . . . and discovers she might be capable of more than she could have ever dreamed.

This volume collects episodes 25-45 of Under the Oak Tree, the #1 webcomic on MANTA.

Illustrated in beautiful full-color. This volume slows down after the chaos of book one, allowing Maxi and Riftan’s relationship to breathe. Their reunion is tender and fragile, filled with longing, and misunderstandings.

I loved watching Maxi’s journey in this volume. She’s still shy and uncertain, but you can feel her strength beginning to bloom. Her determination to learn magic and prove her worth was so sweet.

Riftan defines devotion, a true fantasy hero.

3.5 stars — maxi’s constant stuttering is exhausting to read; there are different ways to portray a stutter, but this is not it.

the art is still beautiful, but the plot still has yet to truly progress.

mixed vibes for vol 1 so hopefully i feel differently about vol 2!

Thank you to Inklore for sending me a finished copy of this.

I just adore this series and I'm so excited to continue on with it. I'm obsessed with Maxi and Riftan, especially with how soft he is with her. Makes my heart melt. Can't wait for volume 3, and I really need to get to the novel as well.

Simply a divine read.
The art was fantastic, so many luscious scenes.
Maxi's beauty is outstanding, her character is unassuming, her kindness is beautiful.
Riftan is collosal in stature but needs to be more observant.
In this volume, these two are still so unsure of one another and continue to learn about what makes the other tick. The scene where Riftan asked Maxi what she hated and that he later probed that, was everything.
The plot remains strong so that this isn't just aesthetic beauty on the page.
I am so needy for more of these two.

Thank you to Inklore for the review copy.

But if there’s even the smallest thing I’m actually good at, and if it was enough for me to be useful to Anatol. Then maybe Riftan will let me stay by his side, even if he grows tired of me. ~Maxi

Meanwhile Riftan. I will burn everything and everyone to be by your side as soon as possible! Also Riftan, I’m so tired from battle I can’t bathe myself and need your help oh look you’re already wet and must join me. He pulls her in the bath.

The way this man is obsessed with her!!! I can’t wait for Maxi to grow more comfortable as the Lady of the house. And for Riftan to keep obsessing over her.

Mhm. I felt a little uneasy about Riftan in this book, gave a lot of the scenes between them seemed like he forced himself in her. Oddly it felt like what the author wanted but it’s harder to decipher that feeling in graphic novels without having to convey it on multiple pages. There were so many of those scenes though, will be back after reading the novel

While I do think the sex scenes in the novels are important, turning them to primarily fade-to-black in the comic allows for more focus on the setting. The art is also gorgeous, although Ruth looks nothing like I imagined him in the novels.

Little bummed that they leave out some of the fun spicy scenes that are on Manta, but I guess those are borderline porn. Thus, I begrudgingly understand that decision lol
I just love finally being able to buy shelf trophies for some of my favorite web comics <3

I'm honestly pretty disappointed in these graphic novels. The artwork is stunning, but the way Riftan and Maxi's relationship is portrayed is alarming.

"A man has a right to take his wife whenever he wishes. I belong to him, so it doesn't matter if he hurts me or causes me pain."

What a terrible message.

I really really wanted to like these books.

i love maxi and riftan. the hardcover is beautiful. while i already knew the content since i’ve read the manga before the english publishing, it’s still very enjoyable. going back into a story that i absolutely loved is always a welcomed experience.

--------

since i’ve already read till the end of season 4, the released volumes will include all the chapters up till the chapters that i’m done with.

march 2025

read until: chapter 125 [season 4 completed]

omg someone help me with the angst. riftan is off to war because he has to and maxi is just feeling useless so she went to help as a healer/nurse to take care of the injured soldiers. THE ENDING OF SEASON 4 SHOWED RIFTAN FINDING OUT MAXI IS HERE. he would be so freaking angry. i know the next season will be filled with lots of pain for maxi, so i hope riftan would help her throughout all the difficult times. :

may 2024

read until: chapter 95 [season 3 completed]

i don’t think i need to say anything cause max and riftan are everything. i’ve already read the novel for this so i know what’s going to happen next but i’m just gonna continue the manga because it’s beautiful. i want max to become braver when communicating her thoughts and while i understand riftan wants to protect her, max needs to go through some experiences to become stronger.

The man you are Riftan! I love him so much. There's also some mild growth for Maxi and I'm rooting for her confidence to grow.

There's more info dropping about the castle, the way the other servants and knights feel about Maxi, and some magic 101 from Ruth.

Recap: Riftan comes back just in time, Maxi is more affectionate, Ruth has Maxi help with creating the rune to protect the city, horseback riding with Riftan, he leaves for a raid and Maxi helps after a werewolf attack, Riftan returns and Maxi and him are PDA city in front of everyone haha, and then Maxi is really pleased before her anxieties of him hating her come back hard again.

“Knowledge is more precious than gold.”

Title: Under the Oak Tree V1 & V2
Author: Suji Kim
Genre: Graphic Novel, Romance, Fantasy

⭐️⭐️⭐️

These graphic novels follow Maxi a young woman who was married to a knight. Her husband Riftan, left for war right after their wedding. Now back from war he takes her back to his home where she must learn to be mistress of the grand home he has. She struggles to find her place and footing due to the abuse her father laid on her for years.

I basically bought these because they were beautiful. I enjoyed these fast reads. Not my normal style but they were a quick read that I enjoyed.

3.5 stars rounded down

I loved the first volume, but sadly this volume didn't hold the same magic for me. After finishing I felt like the story didn't progress enough. Parts felt disjointed and rushed. The art is still beautiful, but again there were places were even the art felt disjointed from the story. I expected more growth, but there wasn't enough here.

Such pretty books! Maxi is getting more confident and coming out her shell and I love that for her. She’s started practicing magic and helped to heal people after a monster attack. Riftan is away abit in this book but we still see their relationship progress more. Riftan is pretty perfect.

Need the next book now!

A whole book just to tell me that Maxi is studying magic! The last bit also feels disjointed, was Maxi not feeling the love, or was she acting coy, this part's not that clear to me.

Other than that, the artwork is gorgeous.

Can't Get Enough

This story is really entertaining. I appreciate the main female characters thirst for knowledge. What can't she do? Each story is better than the next.
